Yeah, the image manipulation programs available for the Chrome OS make MS Paint look sophisticated. There’s a version of AutoCad that runs in Chrome, but I’m still trying to figure out how to draw a line between two endpoints. But for $199 and tax it ain’t too bad.
To be fair, she can no longer summon the hammers, since the elf/fairy/demi-god that allowed that to happen “retired.” Since she has her own magic now, you might have to worry about the dozen or so swords she has stored in that trunk, though.
Someone needs to tell Willis that his ad service sent him an ad that hijacked his page and loaded another one for displaymarketplace.com. This is not the first time I have been waylaid by this ad, just the first time on DoA.
Ethan isn’t a Gary Stu. He’s lying to nearly everyone while manipulating Joyce into thinking they actually have a chance together other than the story she made up in her head.
I think the reason he seems like that is because he’s pretty much kept the role of nurturer, so he always knows what to say in front of Danny to make him feel better, and in front of everyone since he practically had to walk on eggshells in front of Amber, who was suffering from severe anxiety and violent tendencies. Plus, he’s attractive and the characters describe him as such.
Within the run of the strip, she has never been introduced to Walky or shown any awareness of him beyond “that guy who was helping the reporter chase me that time.” And I think if she was consciously aware that the guy chasing her was the twin of That Girl, it would have come up sometime in all her ensuing meltdowns.
Which is not to say she might not come to the realization now…
On the rare occassion when I have been able to be the first one to comment, usually it is because there were lag issues with the American servers but not with the Aussie ones.
I don’t suppose you tech wizards know how to make text hovertext show up on mobile devices? I’ve been using my kindle for everything since my laptop started doing its impression of a lawnmower, and I’d hate to miss out on any commentariat cleverness.
(I’ll learn to live with it if it’s impossible, of course.)
I know how to read the hovertext of the comic, but I couldn’t find a way to read it for the comics… This does not bode well, as I do 90% of my comic reading on my phone. D:
I’m currently using a Verizon Ellipsis tablet as well as an Android smartphone, and if you bring up the comic and then tap the blank space to the right of the last/current/next keys it should display the apt text as a popup window over the comic. After reading, just tap anywhere in the popup to clear it and go back to the original screen.
The Q is about reading the [abbr] title text on touch devices, which I have tested and can’t do on my iPad. Maybe it’s possible with a mouse adapter, but having a mouse for a touch device is kind of a waste =p POSSIBLY the Wacom stylus could work, but I don’t have one to test that out.
[is now tempted to try out the other tags for fun, but iPad means aforementioned loss of functionality]
I’m more on the side of maybe. I wonder how she’ll keep her composure. The last time she fought with Sal in a group and lost. I hope things will go more cordially.
“Who is–ah! It’s you again. Are ya goin’ ta pick a fight again lahk last time?”
“No; I actually want to apologize for that. It was irresponsible of me to try to include you in my problems like that.”
“No kidding. So what exactly is wrong with you, anyway?”
“My psyche was damaged as a child. By you. But don’t worry, I won’t ask you to actively participate in my vengeance again.”
“Well Ah should hope n-”
*Amazi-girl pulls a large knife from beneath her cape and stabs Sal in the chest. As Sal drops Amber takes out a knife and carefully wipes off the knife, then puts them both away.*
“Thank you. I feel much better now”
*Amazi-girl strolls away, whistling.*
It’s worse (better?) than that: Walky is going to Ruth’s room to see if she had any luck making Billie feel better. And the appropriate answer to this is . . . yes and no?
“Oh btw, thanks for those amazi-condoms, they really saved the day.”
I’m suddenly wondering if they were intended for personal use or just in case she encounters couples engaging in ye-old-hot-and-heavy without protection while she’s on parole. I’m probably weeks late to that speculation, though, as I’m sure other commenters brought it up when it was timely.
I was like that before circumstances necessitated spending $150 per pair of shoes several times a year (my job makes me walk a lot and rubbing the heel to bits just by putting my shoes on would be even worse for my wallet, and feet). But before that, spending even half that amount on shoes more than once a year was completely unthinkable to me, and my sneakers lasted a couple years before I had to replace them because the sole was starting to detach itself.
I’m in a similar boat, I’m a size 51 in European sizes, which the online shoe size converters doesn’t seem to have a size for, so I have to get all my shoes in specialty stores or by special order. Being careless with them would be just too expensive.
As others have noted, the time-to-dicks on public dry-erase boards is often measured in days if not hours. He’s probably seen them elsewhere around campus, including his own dorm (put up by similarly naive freshlings) and already learned to tune them out as part of the landscape.
Walky was, if you’ll recall, the first to comment to Joyce that ‘people will just draw dongs on them.’ He’s not the sort to gloat, or say ‘I told you so’. He just thought, ‘Yep, dongs!’ and moved on.
I couldn’t suspect Walky. Becuase he’s Walky. Which is exactly the kind of character a demented author would choose in a stunning turn of events to be the culprit.
I’ve been wondering if there are any classes scheduled today. Because it would be odd if Amber missed all her classes the day Amazi-girl was going around investigating…
The funny thing is that you can actually get rid of sharpie or permanent marker from whiteboards with hand sanitizer. It’s true, totally works. I use it all the time at work. Our dry erase markers all died and we were left with sharpies so just some purell and paper towels are needed to erase it.
it would be funny if they released it but it was just a cinema painted on the side of a cliff

‘COYOTE VS ACME’ has been officially saved by Ketchup Entertainment, who bought the film for $50M
They plan to give the film a worldwide theatrical release in 2026.
do y'all remember when they found all that tf art in Osamu Tezuka's drawer post-mortem because I think about it often
anyway keep chasing your bliss and draw weird shit, god knows we need that right now
Today in #9ChickweedLane I learned that I have to weigh which is worse: the cartoonist already forgetting what this guy looks like one daily strip later, or that, yes, he's actually meant to be an old man, not a victim to an older cartoonist forgetting what young people look like
Like any average American, I’m for universal basic income and abolishing the police. I can’t get on board with these ultra-leftists calling for the universal hive mind, though!
maura quint@mauraquint.bsky.social ⋅ 1d
going to start calling myself a centrist and then listing all my leftist views as proof, just going to start moving the overton window by force
I've spent the past few days reading through the entire archive of @damnyouwillis.bsky.social's Dumbing of Age and this has been stuck in my head for about 90% of that time.
Awkward.
There’s that word again.
And Dan just posted that picture this morning, and you’re already Firefly Susan? You work fast.
Dan posted that like, 24 hours ago.
I saw it this morning and I did my magic on it.
Yeah, the image manipulation programs available for the Chrome OS make MS Paint look sophisticated. There’s a version of AutoCad that runs in Chrome, but I’m still trying to figure out how to draw a line between two endpoints. But for $199 and tax it ain’t too bad.
I only paid $59 for my Corel Paint 2 years ago.
How do you do that thing with your words?
@Kintrex: To create Words you do this:
(abbr title=”Hovertext”)Words(/abbr) where you replace the () with the greater than/less than signs.
When it comes to editing EGS art, I’m pretty quick off the mark.
Firefly Susan is best Susan!
Just don’t call her “Captain Tightpants” unless you want a hammering…
The hammer’s her… nah.
To be fair, she can no longer summon the hammers, since the elf/fairy/demi-god that allowed that to happen “retired.” Since she has her own magic now, you might have to worry about the dozen or so swords she has stored in that trunk, though.
No, if you’ll recall she awakened and got a spell that was “basically the hammers.” Susan is, and always shall be, the Hammer Queen.
That’s CAPTAIN Hammer Queen.

Walky, chasing girls
Amazi-Girl, chasing dongers.
Dorothy, chasing a scoop.
Chasing girls with dongers using a scoop.
Pix or it di’n’t happ’n.
Ethan and Danny, on the lawn. Mike, banging your mom for a nickel.
hovertext~
Walky is the new Danny.
Don’t ever insult him like that
It’s more like Danny is becoming the old Walky with his man-marriage daydreams and what have you.
Yeah, I feel like public opinion of him has swayed very quickly since that strip.
Is Ethan’s middle name Gary?
As in Gary Stu?
Ethan isn’t a Gary Stu. He’s lying to nearly everyone while manipulating Joyce into thinking they actually have a chance together other than the story she made up in her head.
I think the reason he seems like that is because he’s pretty much kept the role of nurturer, so he always knows what to say in front of Danny to make him feel better, and in front of everyone since he practically had to walk on eggshells in front of Amber, who was suffering from severe anxiety and violent tendencies. Plus, he’s attractive and the characters describe him as such.
“Oh I need to kill someone. Looks like you but with longer hair and nicer tits”
Jeez, I never even thought about that. Does she know they’re siblings? I have a feeling I’m going to archive binge to find out.
*tugs collar* Gulp.
Which is not to say she might not come to the realization now…
Well, she at least knows Dorothy is his girlfriend.
You can’t stop the ship no one can
Watch out foriceburgs.
Walky walks away, depressed that his tits will never be as nice as Sal’s.
That’s why he eats all those McNuggets. His cunning plan is defeated by his youthful metabolism, though.
Boobs > Moobs
*Walky breaks out the birdcage and yells* “COME ON, YOU TWO, STEP UP YOUR GAME”
Bullshit there is nothing that can campere to the Amzi-rack…oh wait you talking about Walky, ya your right about that.
Pfffft this is just weird.
Very weird.
How did all of you comment already?!
Repeated use of the F5 key? Not really, just knowing when the comic posts and being really fast readers.
I’d be faster, but I like to put more thought into my comments than “FIRST”
You’re pretty damn fast, Jen Aside!
On the rare occassion when I have been able to be the first one to comment, usually it is because there were lag issues with the American servers but not with the Aussie ones.
What an weird way to start a conversation
Did you draw the dongs Walkerton?
“I wish I could draw that well”
Maybe he could in his sleep, maybe he did it in his sleep ! ( JK that would be a really stupid route to go with this story).
Eh, seems rather normal to me.
This is like when Freakazoid and The Lobe meet at the mall.
I didn’t think Amazi-girl was allowed to walk anywhere, she just leaps off buildings and walls and climbs trees and rides on trucks.
Don’t forget climbing out windows. She is not allowed to open doors. She either has to use windows or bang on the door until someone else opens it.
It’s a lie, Walky! Catch her anyway.
Hey weren’t you on that /co/ thread about little red riding Hood?
I’m all over the place. I’m up and Down and All around.
But yes.
“So any leads on the Ding-dong Bandit?”
you are going to use hovertext very gratuitously from now on, aren’t you
I think I will use them for explaining things and in this case subtext!
Comment hovertext? It’s neat, I guess
Yeah, it’s OK I guess
I don’t suppose you tech wizards know how to make text hovertext show up on mobile devices? I’ve been using my kindle for everything since my laptop started doing its impression of a lawnmower, and I’d hate to miss out on any commentariat cleverness.
(I’ll learn to live with it if it’s impossible, of course.)
Sorry but as I don’t have any type of smartphone or smartpad, I cannot help you, hopefully someone will post a how-to show hovertext on those devices.
I know how to read the hovertext of the comic, but I couldn’t find a way to read it for the comics… This does not bode well, as I do 90% of my comic reading on my phone. D:
Was that second “comics” meant to be “comments”?
It wasn’t originally meant to be comments, but that is certainly clearer.

[is now tempted to try out the other tags for fun, but iPad means aforementioned loss of functionality]
That technique works on an iPad as well, which is where I read all the web comics.
What tag do you use for that? <_<
Nevermind, found it.
Fun, isn’t it?
NOT AT ALL
Yeah, kind of nifty, I guess.
Argh it didn’t work. Sorry.
Once more, with feeling…
Help?
It’s showing but then I am reading this on a PC.
Oh, shit. Just realized that she’s gonna go talk to Sal. This won’t be good.
Maybe. Maybe not.
I’m more on the side of maybe. I wonder how she’ll keep her composure. The last time she fought with Sal in a group and lost. I hope things will go more cordially.
I want to say Amber isn’t crazy enough to attack Sal in the middle of the dorms, but she’s not exactly rational.
“Who is–ah! It’s you again. Are ya goin’ ta pick a fight again lahk last time?”
“No; I actually want to apologize for that. It was irresponsible of me to try to include you in my problems like that.”
“No kidding. So what exactly is wrong with you, anyway?”

“Thank you. I feel much better now”
*Amazi-girl strolls away, whistling.*
Oh you know, I’m going to confront your sister for the second time.
Heh heh. Dorothy already “got” Amazigirl. If you know what I’m saying.
Journalists love indepth interviewing after all.
nice use of the abbreviation tag
Kiitti! ^_^
Journalism.
Dorothy is Amazigirl’s Lois Lane!
These hallway shots make me feel like someone’s going to pass by Ruth’s room and….hear things.
It’s worse (better?) than that: Walky is going to Ruth’s room to see if she had any luck making Billie feel better. And the appropriate answer to this is . . . yes and no?
He’ll probably think, eh, this always happens on TV. They’re probably just moving heavy boxes or somethin’.
I was kinda hoping Walky would seize the opportunity to talk to his sister about the way they were raised.
Baby steps.
Keepin’ it casual, eh Walky and AmaziGirl?
“Oh btw, thanks for those amazi-condoms, they really saved the day.”
I’m suddenly wondering if they were intended for personal use or just in case she encounters couples engaging in ye-old-hot-and-heavy without protection while she’s on parole. I’m probably weeks late to that speculation, though, as I’m sure other commenters brought it up when it was timely.
On patrol*
this is why proofreading is important
Dorothy did ask her why she carried condoms, and AmaziGirl replied that she is “prepared for anything”. Not just regular crazy, but crazy prepared.
Which means she needs those rubbers in case of an impromptu water balloon battle.
That, or for sex with Danny.
CLEARLY they’re for BALLOON ANIMALS YEESH
Amazi-condoms are for protection against teenage pregnancies.
I like that Walky’s shoes are untied. It’s very…Walky.
I never tie my shoes. I tie them once and then slip my feet into them for the rest of my life.

The real joke is that Walky did not once comment of the penises that litter the doors of the hallway.
He is having a really dramatic day. Right since he woke up. Little things like dongs on whiteboards are hardly registering right now.
Or he figured it was totally normal so it didn’t merit comment. Also the conversation only just began. Maybe it’ll come up (if you know what I mean).
As others have noted, the time-to-dicks on public dry-erase boards is often measured in days if not hours. He’s probably seen them elsewhere around campus, including his own dorm (put up by similarly naive freshlings) and already learned to tune them out as part of the landscape.

Straight-as-an-arrow dudes have these blinders up that prevent them from seeing other dudes’ dicks on pain of freaking-the-hell-out
Straight dudes draw dicks on everything. They’re dick obsessed.
But not nearly as obsessed as the homophobes.
(oh HERE’S where that comment was…)
See, I figured straight dudes would be drawing HUGE dicks. What dude would draw a little-bitty dong like Sarah’s
Come to think of it, that vague grin in panel one could just as easily be “lol dicks” as “imma be good to Billie now”
I couldn’t suspect Walky. Becuase he’s Walky. Which is exactly the kind of character a demented author would choose in a stunning turn of events to be the culprit.
I’ve been wondering if there are any classes scheduled today. Because it would be odd if Amber missed all her classes the day Amazi-girl was going around investigating…
I am loving Amazigirl’s cape. Great job with it, seriously. She’s always looked awesome, but it’s really stood out to me in this storyline.
*Enda Mode HMFs disapprovingly*
No capes!
That awkward moment when you meet the masked vigilante you were chasing it the hallway but are too tired to chase them.
Walky has had a rough day!
If she goes and talks to Sal, then I really wish Billie was there to see the two together.
Despite being a full body suit, there’s no actual armor in the Amazi-girl costume is there?
Unless that costume is made out of kevlar, I seriously doubt it.
I like how Amber is able to stay in character all the time like that.
Running around in the night, I can understand, but indoors around her dormmates like this? I’d be nervously laughing all the time.
Yeah, it’s pretty impressive. She maintains that super hero aura really well.
Her throat must start to hurt after a while of doing the gravelly voice though.
She might in fact have laryngitis…
Walky, stop being so likable! Stahp it!
The funny thing is that you can actually get rid of sharpie or permanent marker from whiteboards with hand sanitizer. It’s true, totally works. I use it all the time at work. Our dry erase markers all died and we were left with sharpies so just some purell and paper towels are needed to erase it.
