(And how is he a political target? He’s not IN politics. I guess Republicans trying to use it against Robin, maybe…)
I’m a bit lost here. Joe is a “political target” how, exactly? He’s not IN politics. If he’d knocked Roz up, then he might be treated like Levi Johnston was, but I have a hard time imagining even the most conservative critics acting surprised that college boys have consensual premarital sex.
The story so far has treated it as foregone that Joe will be a PAPARAZZI target, but I don’t see how it’s in Joe’s character even to object to THAT. What’s the story here, that he had good sex and lots of people saw it? How does that make Joe look like someone Joe doesn’t want to look like?
Joe seems to be perfectly fine with the whole situation. It’s everyone else that’s freaking out about it.
So if Robin visits campus to chew out her sister for causing problems in an election year, will she have a chance encounter with a certain Gender Studies teacher?
I could be wrong, but I interpret “Political Target” as what he’s going to be used for, not what he is. Since Robin’s sister had sex and then released a video, even though it has nothing to do with Robin herself, it’ll still be used as a political attack against her. Calling Joe a political target thus does work, it’s just that better wording or a better title could have been given, but meh.
While I could see it having more of an impact if she was a Republican riding on the ‘Traditional Family Values’ wave but otherwise, in this day and age, would it affect all that much?
Assuming that the District Robin represents (assuming The DeSanto in question is indeed Robin) is the same one she represents in “Shortpacked,” then the answer is no. There is no way that a sex tape that all of the participants were adults in, consented to, and survived making would damage the career of a Democrat in that district. 🙂

You’ll remember the Levi Johnson event, where Levi knocked up Sarah Palin’s daughter, and suddenly all of the “traditional family” stances in her campaign came into question by the media and opposing politicians. Levi was paraded around like a monkey by both sides, as Sarah tried to make him look “respectable” as her daughter’s baby-daddy, and the opposition tried to make him look like a pervert. Joe could end up in a similar situation in which he is targeted by politics and which I’m betting won’t be as much fun as Joe thinks it could be.
Something has to happen soon to explain why Joe should care at all.
I mean Roz should be the one interviewed. SHE is the one RELATED to the congressperson and ALSO goes to the same college. Seems stupid to focus on Joe at all from a media perspective.

I get the feeling from this strip that Joe actually doesn’t care at all, and is just doing what Danny says because Danny has assured him very bad things ™ are going to happen because of this. I think by the end of his discussion with Dorothy he’ll realize Danny was stupid and he’s fine to go out and go about his business.
I dunno, I get the feeling that he respects Danny’s opinions on stuff like this. I imagine that Danny’s the type who always figures out how to get Joe out of whatever mess he’s gotten into, so all Joe has to do is listen to Danny when bad things happen and he knows it’ll be alright. Even Danny’s not more persuasive than Lil’ Joe, though.
Roz is probably next on the list when you think about it. Dorothy knows Joe personally, so it makes sense to talk to him first. Also considering how blunt and at times dimwitted he can be, she’ll be more likely to get 100% of the truth out of him, as opposed to Roz who might not want to talk to Dorothy. I think its more a matter of convenience here.
So did Joe fail to mention his approval of the sex tape to Dan before Dan went to scowl at Roz? Well, we can’t say we’re totally surprised by this. I mean, Roz is a cam whore and isn’t the most moral of individuals, but I suppose she would have enough common sense to get Joe to agree to the video before filming and uploading it to avoid possible lawsuits.
My questions is how will Joe’s mother react to this bit of NATIONAL news. I don’t know if she’s ever appeared in the old comics, but most mothers would be pretty damn pissed off or shocked to find out their baby boy not only did a sex tape, but is now a public figure of sorts because of it.
And hey, there’s another person Joe didn’t put into consideration when he did this. His own mom, who you KNOW the media will want interviews with as well once his identity goes public.
That’s going to be an interesting Thanksgiving this year…

I came here from QC to find out who “Dumb Ingo Fage” is. o0 While the realization of my mistake struck me with a painful headdesk, this comic is definitely worth my attention. I’ve read through it in a single run and am determined to check out its predecessor(s) asap.
Concerning the current comic: Joe appears rather thoughtless and sex-obsessed at first glance, but if you think about it, most people who were object of political or public sex scandals should have taken into account that their adventure may blow up in their face eventually. Assuming they weren’t completely stupid, they didn’t care either.
And beside being bashed by the public eye, what harm did it do (most of) them? This is just a minor incident, but Joe may very well become a local celebrity because of his thoughtless behavior. Maybe that’s what he hopes, too?
