So three on one. Two are misinformed idiots and the thirds cosplaying as scarface, theres a girl in a yellow spandex suit who tries to sound like batman in the Nolan films and there’s a governor electoral debate going on in like what? five minutes, there’s nothing interesting that could come from this set up. 😉
I sincerely doubt that the two idiots are misinformed. Joyce straight up jacked up his face. The fact that he didn’t go to the police to report “that bongo” for Smurfing his face would have been a giveaway that he earned that cut by doing something highly illegal.
I like to use Smurf as a filter for certain curse words. I find it amusing. It makes watching any episode of The Smurf hilarious to imagine they are filthy potty mouths.
They may or may not know about the drugging, but smart money’s on they either know or are choosing to be willfully ignorant that Ryan was attempting sexual advances without Joyce’s consent.
I imagine his ‘side’ of the story to his friends goes something like “I was working this chick all night, I FINALLY get her alone when all of a sudden she completely flips out into a raging [misogynist term of choice] out of nowhere and breaks her glass across my face! Then her friend [whose gender is probably left out] comes up and sucker-punches me before I can teach that [misogynist term of choice] a lesson.”
And they were likely all “Man, I get you. Percussion instruments be crazy.” Because even if they aren’t predators themselves, I will bet you that they are exactly the type to perpetuate that culture that looks at women as prizes to be claimed with little to no agency of their own.
You snap the lines, not the points. Move your hand across while snapping, down and over while snapping, and across once again while snapping. This ends the “drag queen in a tizzy” tutorial.
It took me a long time to get it right. Think of it as a movement of the thumb, not the fingers.
Start with a loose fist (like an ASL letter A), lift the index and middle fingers, and put your thumb underneath the first knuckle on both. Squeeze a bit with your middle finger, and move your thumb outward. The middle finger should ‘spring down’ on its own and snap against the base of your thumb.
My problem was trying to focus on doing everything with just the fingers. They don’t accelerate fast enough to get a good snap.
I got so pissed off at my parents and the people around me being able to whistle that I spent a good month trying non-stop when I was like 7 or 8 I think… so I’ve known how to since then.
I know, right? At this rate, she might even be able to get the support of the crowd! It’ll be a lot harder for them to go “that nasty vigilante is beating up an upstanding white dude” when there are three of them, and they’re throwing the first punch.
…Also why am I not surprised that Ryan is friends with Taylor and Dawson.
Taylor: The 13th President of the United States. Prior to becoming President, he was a general who had a reputation for being an incredible badass, but once in office he soon died of food poisoning from eating some spoiled cherries. Was the reason that Millard Fillmore became President.
Dawson: The star of some stupid teen-focused TV show that I never watched.
I don’t know why you’d say that; President Taylor wasn’t a comedian at all. He actually took a hard-line stance against the expansion of slavery to the recently “acquired” southwestern territories, and when the Southern states started grumbling about it, he said that if anyone tried seceding from the Union, he’d go down there and hang them himself.
Now Tyler, the answer of “Where’d he go?” was to the Confederacy. Freakin’ traitor. You can call him a comedian if you want.
yeah, and keep in mind she’s been trained in self-defense. she knows what she’s doing. these dudes might have been in lame “you were dancin’ with mah lady” slap fights, but the difference between some schmuck who thinks he knows how to fight and a person who actually has fight training and experience becomes apparent pretty quickly. three against one might make things tricky, but as long as she remains calm and controls the situation, she’ll be fine.
My prediction is Amazigirl gets in over her head fighting 3v1, she is holding her own but losing, and Sal comes in at the last second to help, forcing Amber to reevaluate how she perceives her.
Amber hated Sal for saving her because she robbed Amazi-Girl of her dignity, that Amazi-Girl totally could have saved Becky like that shitty little coward Amber couldn’t have saved Becky.
But now Amber’s been placed in a situation where she’s been forced to register Sal as an actual human being who is undeserving of the crowd’s hatred for her. That pursuing her vengeance against Sal right now is not The Right Thing To Do, which is in complete contradiction of Amber’s narrative of Sal being Criminal Scum that Amazi-Girl can rain righteous vengeance upon.
If Sal jumps in to help in a way that Amber perceives as “I had to bail you out because you’re a little sucky baby just like you were when I took your friend hostage” then Amber can feel confident in continuing to hate her, but with what she’s been confronted with today, with her pushing Danny away and doubling down on how Amazi-Girl needs to be perfect, I think we’re in for some advancement, or at the very least Amber starting to question her views.
This means Amazi-Girl will be fighting several dudes at once by the time onlookers catch up, making her case a more appealing one to those just tuning in.
well to use a different comparison, but one i suspect a large amount of people know dudley in harry potter had a group as well that he worked with even though he was capable by himself for many of the ones he bullied iirc
the type of assholes who roofie drinks, then think the people who dislike them for doing so and fight back are bongoes because they didn’t roll over and submit.
Nah, “I totally did it and will do it again because I feel no remorse!” could be taken as sarcasm. “You can’t prove anything!” is almost as good as admitting that there is something to prove.
I’m wondering about this as well. Fighting for what’s right is something that we know resonates with Sal from those flashbacks we’ve been getting. Of course, Sal also doesn’t have the benefit of the anonymity of a superhero mask.
I’m thinking that Amazi-Girl’s less horrible fans in the crowd will start noticing that post she just made, and this is going to turn into an all-out melee.
Still not super healthy for Amber. Look at her face in the last panel. This is an “acceptable” time to get ultra violent on people, so it’s an excuse for her. Remember how she was with Sal when they had the run-in in the parking lot? She happened to pick a guy who deserves it this time, but still.
That being said, I like her social media solution.
I actually am worried for Amazi-Girl. She had a reason for what she did to Blaine and she went so far over the line that Danny had to intervene and keep her from killing him. Now, she feels justified for whatever she would do to Ryan (and by association, his two friends) … and I’m afraid how far she would go if unchecked.
I really don’t think Amber is that vicious by default. That incident with Blaine was entirely provoked by him – her physically/emotionally abusive father who was stalking her abducted her boyfriend – and it pushed her WAY over the edge. Amber has a lot of anger that she isn’t dealing with but she’s been good so far at keeping it appropriate.
i respect your right to believe that, but i personally think that there is a bigger chance that pigs will fly around on bat wings handing out newspapers announcing the election of Jill Stein and her VP Donald Trump than that.
I think Marcie will do it
Nah. This is Amazi-Girl. She’s pretty much in control of the beatings she hands out. Amber nearly killed Blaine. Ryan, despicable though he is, isn’t one of her triggers. She won’t react to him like that.
Regarding the comments on earlier pages about how the crowd might not be racist d-bags… can’t help but notice a complete lack of cheering for Amazi-Girl right now.
Yup. It’s a rather stark contrast that the crowd faces here seem confused or stunned rather than cheering her on in the similar aggressive manner they did the impending fight with Sal.
I’m still trying to figure out what “dude check out his scar” means. Does he think it’s a wicked cool scar? Does he think the guy looks like trouble? Does he find the scar itself attractive, and is rating its appearance on a scale of ten? I have to know!
Well he tried to go for the phone. Now…let’s see if the on-lookers join in the fight against these goons. Slightly doubt it at first but once they find out what he did through social media (once the upload is complete)…*evil chuckle* I’ll be on the karma train, sipping champagne.
Pretty much every reference that I wanted to make, every pun I thought of, was posted already in the last ten minutes. Dammit.
If I were to use the phrase “need some cream for that burn” somewhat ironically, would it be funny again?
Also, this is doubly great because I only just got to the part in Shortpacked where those three look-alikes become annoying fucksticks. Hurrah!
Three on one odds are fine for a bunch of pansy-ass pricks like that. Remember, Amazi-Girl has taken down much larger dudes in two-on-ones that I can remember.
You know that looked like a normal glass glass… How the hell did she hit him hard enough to actually break it?
Also, she hit him before the drugs kicked in and I definitely did not need to reread that party scene.
Ryan is way worse than I remembered. He was looking for a “mark” from the beginning and the trick he used to get Joyce to drink the drink she refused was downright evil.
Also, who uses breakable glasses at a party? The ones I have shatter completely if you hold them too tight.
Joyce may not have felt the drug till after, but suppressive drugs mess up your coordination and reaction times long before that. But Ryan still lost, so AG should be able to mop the floor with him. He’s use to getting his way by manipulation, like you pointed out, not by force.
However, if the three fight dirty, as expected, or some of the crowd joins in, AG could need Sal’s help.
The thing about that particular manipulation I mentioned was just how planned and targeted it was. That wasn’t just “Get her to drink this thing” It was “Here’s how to manipulate and take advantage of a person’s fundamental behavior and psychology.” It was an “I’ve done this a hundred times. I know how people work.” kind of manipulation… which is retrospectively terrifying for what it probably means…
Now I have an image of Ryan and his “bros” getting together to trade tips and techniques, or even do practice runs on how to do this stuff. Agghh! I assume there’s even how-to websites, (No I don’t want to know).
Human beings the high point of evolution? No! The endpoint of “intelligent design”? Hell no! More like a parasite run amok.
There are many strategies for ensuring your genes are passed on. Evolution doesn’t judge on anything except effectiveness. Which leads to interesting combinations of pair-bonding, mutual support, cheating and outright force, among other approaches. Not just in us, but throughout nature.
We are only unique in that we are very clever. We can devise intricate variations and employ many tools to do the very same kinds of things our distant cousins do.
CONTENT WARNING: That thing I do where I get into the mind of fucks like this because I’ve been studying them too long so I know all their favorite excuses
“Dude, bros, this night was the absolute worst. Like, I was making the moves on this prime piece of tail and she’s just eating it up with a spoon, totally into me, ya know what I mean? And then, (slur for women) just starts dicking with me all night, just being a major cock tease, acting coy and into it one minute and then giving mixed signals the next. Y’know, making it into a whole bullshit chase game like (slur for women who are perceived as sexually active) like to do.
And I’ve finally got her primed. She’s ready to go, we’re moving into home and the (slur for women) just ups and turns psycho on me like a raging period monster. Just fucking slashes me out of nowhere with her glass, like literally breaks it on my fucking face. Like, what the fuck, psycho, right? And then her violent “urban” friend fucking smashes my head in with a baseball bat, because now she’s fucking flinging fake rape accusations everywhere to cover up fucking slashing at me when she’s the one coming on to me all night, sending constant signals that she was into it.
I really don’t doubt that, but I’ve never actually heard it before… I’ve been pretty lucky to hang out with generally fundamentally decent people for a fairly large part of my life.
I did, unfortunately, hang out with a group of complete douchebags for a large part of one year of high school and should not have let them get away with spewing anywhere near as much shit as they did, but, as much as it saddens me, the only time I actually got on their case about it was when they audibly made fun of a girl in a wheelchair who came out of an elevator and passed by practically within earshot, if not certainly within earshot, of her. I gave them no end of shit for that and they shut up pretty quickly thankfully.
I have a feeling this will mess up Desanto in college appeal. Having someone who is being accused of attempted rape, and two men defending it on your out reach team even as unpaid interns is not good. This is going to spiral out of control for more than just Ryan.
It’s pretty difficult to actually gang up on someone and fight them effectively, especially if you’re a group of bozos who probably don’t know much about fighting except “uh power in numbers right”.
I think she’ll have a hard time if she lets her guard down (entirely possible with how eager she is) and Sal will have to jump in yeah, but there’s plenty of ways to control fighting space and fight multiple people at once with… some effectiveness.
So it’s gonna be Sal and Amazigirl (and maybe Marcie) vs the trio of idiots? Hell I would skip the conference just to watch this. I like where this is going.
Now, here’s what I’m worried about. He says that Joyce “sent” Amazi-Girl. Now, even if she beats the shit out of Ryan and his thugs, I’m pretty sure that he’d want to retaliate. Not against Amazi-Girl, if she beats the shit out of the three of them, that would be too hard, but against Joyce.
Very true. When you’re young and in your late teens/early 20s you think you can beat everything and everyone. You don’t realize that even worse can happen.
Before you get too worried, this might not be Ryan’s first rape attempt. If he is recognized on social media, then other victims will likely come forward to verify that he is a rapist. Bringing enough evidence to have him arrested before he can retaliate against Joyce.
Considering that he was absorbed in the task of trying to get her alone, I don’t think he even knows Joyce’s name (he never called her as such). It’s been a month – he probably just has a vague rememberance of her features and that’s it.
In your defense, however, he does seem (understandably) hung up about what she did to his face. Even though he totally deserved it, a scar of that magnitude means he’s effectively disfigured for most of his life. I’d be worried he’s been stalking her, waiting to exact revenge.
Certainly, depending on how this night goes, he’ll have additional reasons to want to seek her out and “seek revenge” for “his troubles” and for “ruining his life”.
I’d say regardless of how this night goes he has a reasonable chance to choose to do so now, even if he hasn’t been at least looking for a chance to do so before.
He literally just told them she sent Amazi-girl after him. Not doing “something” about Joyce after that, especially if they all get both beat up (“by a girl no less”) and arrested is going to be seen as a significant loss of face among his ilk when even just one or the other would be seen as bad enough. Then there’s the potential loss of this networking opportunity which their parents likely set up for them (a common occurrence in both parties) which they likely will hear about quite a lot especially as this is a rally for someone seeking reelection to national office so has probably got plenty of press on scene who will talk about this and show clips on the morning news. Just following through on their decisions so far will have them facing plenty of consequences if no legal ones, so Ryan, if not his entourage here as well, will likely now try to retaliate against Joyce.
I’m worried about that too. But when she isn’t drugged, Joyce isn’t exactly a pushover. And, thanks to slashdouche, she doesn’t go out alone anymore. One or several of these bros confronting the people who nursed her through that awful night? Won’t go well for them. Extra-serious stomping would ensue.
I don’t think Ryan even knows who Joyce is — by name, anyway. She only gave it once — “In this room I am Joyce Brown, queen of the drunks!” — while they were in the room playing “Settlers of Catan”, and I doubt that it even registered with him since he was just viewing her as his intended ‘mark’ for the night.
Amazi-Girl has strength, agility, fighting skills and is wearing boots. Those dudes are all hat and no cattle, prolly never have been in a real fight in their lives and have Big Jim and The Twins hangin’ there ready for Amazi-Girl to score a field goal. My bets on Amazi-Girl to take the gold.
Ditto. And of course, once people see three males teaming up on a single female — even if she is in a super-hero jumpsuit — Amazi-Girl is going to have all the help she will need.
AG needs antagonize them to get them to attack soon. Sal, Marcie and security will be arriving, then this will get WAY more complicated and she won’t have as much control of the outcome.
For some reason I thought Ryan and Leland were the same guy. Or, I thought Leland was Ryan. Or, I thought Ryan was Leland. — Did anyone else make that mistake? Was the schoolyard bully who got away with abusing Marcie so long ago, not the same guy as the wannabe-rapist who roofied Joyce?
CONTENT WARNING: Description of how misogynistic assholes somehow have friends
Its surprisingly easy. Even if Dawson and Taylor aren’t bad guys themselves, shitheels like Ryan can be particularly difficult for other men to detect, because they treat other men like actual people. Ryan went that party alone, so I imagine he keeps that kind of thing — or at least the key details — to himself.
And since Ryan just looks and acts like a regular guy to them, anyone suggesting otherwise is just trying to sling shade on their bro. Probably because they’re on their period or something. All bros know periods can explain anything you want to dismiss immediately. And if that fails, “bros before hos” should work for the rest. Gotta hammer in those rules, bro! Don’t think about them, they’re just the rules!
Of course, that’s assuming they’re not just as bad as him. They could well be. Or maybe they only use alcohol but not drugs (not that its any better, but they totally think it makes a difference). This kind of toxic attitude towards women thrives when it’s reinforced by other like-minded misogynist fuckwits.
I experienced plenty of it (usually from a distance, thankfully) in high-school and college, though most of the red flags went unnoticed at the time. I don’t actually know if any actually went on to assault anyone, but I’d be surprised if none of them had.
In addition, it’s also entirely possible he’s outright lied to them (being charitable here until these guys are proven to be equals in fuckstickery, which I’m sure they will be quite soon), fabricating some story about how “that bongo” attacked him with a piece of glass unprovoked or after she “misunderstood” his flirting or something.
What seems clear is that he represented himself as a victim to his friends, so as far as they know/are concerned, he’s the victim, and this costumed woman is just attacking him for no good reason. Don’t you know Ryan here has been through so much already?
Even if you leave misogyny out of it for a moment, the fact is, if you know someone well and think of them as a friend, you’ll probably at least try to rationalize anything bad you find out about them. Or are inclined to believe their version of events. Because they’re your friend, you want to give them the benefit of the doubt, because you trust them.
So best case scenario, these guys are going to find out some unpleasant truths about their “bro,” and drop him like the P.O.S. he is. Worst case scenario, they’re every bit as bad as he is, and they all deserve equal shares of the can of whoopass they’re about to have opened on them.
This is why toxic masculinity is so toxic, because as the end game it posits a twisted contradiction. Your masculinity is at least in major part based on and seen as rewarded by “getting that puss”, but the way you’re encouraged to behave under the strictest parts of it demand behavior based on actively doing things to harm women. So the only way to “succeed” and “retain your man card” is to turn to “other” means of “having success” usually involving some form of rape or at least escalating layers of creep.
For an example, just look at PUA culture and how much of the language emphasizes ideas of masculinity, of being alpha, of being a winner, but so many of the techniques taught are literally techniques to violate boundaries and make women uncomfortable and isolated from anyone who could come to their aid.
Dawson and Taylor may not be rapists themselves, but they are deep in that bro culture and Ryan, by his “successes” is a winner. And the bro code is firm to stand up for your buddy no matter what, especially against evil lying women. “Bros before (slurs for sex workers)”.
Not to mention that it’s hard to view your friend as someone who would do something awful. Like, they’re your friend, so they must be a decent guy, otherwise what would it say about me that I’ve been friends with him while he was doing all this awful stuff? So you want to instinctively defend them.
Add to that the simple fact that the most successful rapists and abusers tend to be full of charisma and great at putting on their best face with everyone but their targets so as to make it harder for their targets to report on them and so they have the support of the community to rally behind them…
And well… Ryan is that. He’s a pastor’s son, he’s a political volunteer, he’s probably kind and funny and full of “great stories” to them. And so of course someone attacking him must be in the wrong and anything they accuse him of must be wrong, because “everyone knows” he’s a great guy.
Same way he got Joyce to thrust him at first, act charming, talk to them about they want to hear, leave any distateful detail of yourself, and I bet he also could made use of his whiteness and apparent harmless looking face. So what these guys may know at most is that somebody make a gash on his face but you can bet he told them that it was because the bongo was crazy and not because he tried to rape somebody.
Did Dorothy alert Sarah, resulting in the Wrath of Old Testament God marching forth with baseball bat in hand?
Will Sal side with Amazi-Girl?
Will Marcie and her fellow security team members try to defuse the situation? If so, will Marcie be lashed out at by Ryan, thereby polarizing Sal if she wasn’t enraged enough already?
Actually, I’m also old enough for the “same bat-time, same bat-channel” thing. I saw it as a kid (though it must have been reruns, I’m not quite that old).
Security steps in, stops and fight and send AG out of the rally. They are there to prevent disturbances. They don’t care what the disruption is about.
Consequences for Ryan happen off screen in the future. As much as we might like it, I don’t foresee a ten strip fight here. Police involvement would be very bad for AG ( and the narrative). Everyone would be taken into custody until they could figure things out. No way that a fight ends up well for AG, so no fight will happen.
AG walks away, Ryan and buddies get restrained. No one dies or gets arrested. And Ryan knows that he is truly fucked and that the shitstorm is just beginning. Winning is the best revenge. AG can go back to Joyce and let her know Ryan has been exposed and named.
Ryan isn’t new. Ryan showed up in not quite so evil a way in Ruth’s backstory in Roomies. Though he was younger and could easily have worked his way up to the Ryan we know by college.
I am still worrying for AG, by this point we all know this is unhealthy but now she has two fight 3 guys and the people who might side with this douche…
Panel 1: “You can’t prove anything”, the favored dodge of scoundrels everywhere and it works tiringly well for things like rape, because the burden of proof is often exceedingly high. So simply repeating that there’s no proof while leaving general threats and encouraging your “bros” to harass can even protect you as your crimes become more public and your former victims come out of the woodwork to detail your crimes.
See any number of serial rapist or sexual harassers in various fields, trusting their army of fans to “get their back” against the (slurs for women perceived as sexually active) who have “committed libel/slander” against them “ruining their good name”.
Panels 1-2: And yeah, that’s the rub. AG is right, she probably can’t prove anything, certainly not to the level where he’d actually face legal consequences and certainly not to the level where Joyce wouldn’t be suffering far worse of a fate than Ryan for pursuing it.
But it’s a small important thing. Getting his face out there, getting his name out there, so the campus has warning, so his next “mark” has a slightly better chance of knowing she’s being targeted, so the next party host can eject him on sight.
It’s not a perfect solution to the missing stair problem, but it’s the best that can be done when all the repair tools are far out of the hands of anyone who could possibly give a shit. Cause rapists love the small talk, they can thrive in it. Can make it so their victims are crazy and just trying to hurt them to “get revenge” for something. Love when the newbie who looks out of place hasn’t been whispered to about the “nice looking boy” with the penchant for blue.
Panel 3: And Plan A comes to fruition. Kicking his butt.
Wait, weren’t there 3 interns? Where’s the other one, is he going to jump Amazi-Girl the least she expects?( that”s what he would think, he doesn’t know AG is always prepared for everything).
“Do you seriously think I’d explain my master-stroke if there remained the slightest chance of you affecting its outcome? I did it thirty-five minutes ago.”
Right up there with, “You were doomed the moment you showed your face, ’cause no matter how this ends for me, you can be certain it will end worse for you.”.
Panel 4: Ah, bro code. Fuck the bro code. Fuck the toxic masculinity underpinning it. Fuck the casual sexism. Fuck how it props up all sorts of mythologies about how “(slurs for women) always be lyin’ “. Fuck how it breeds this cesspool where rapists and abusers are protected and where women are reduced to meat.
Also, can’t help noticing that the crowd is much less animated about intervening and cheering on this bit of impending violence that AG is much more confident about. It’s a mystery as to why.
And that last line… yeah, of course that’s what he’d take away. Rapists always have a means of making themselves the aggrieved party, the wounded party, the party somehow done wrong so that the (slur for woman) deserved it.
And worse, this confirms that he knows it’s Joyce. Maybe not by name, but definitely by appearance. And if he already wasn’t trying to find her… hoo boy, he’ll be even more wanting to track her down after getting his butt beaten up by a superhero whose threatening to out his awfulness on social media.
Panel 5: Fucking bro code… ugh… But seriously, as a metaphor, this works astoundingly well as a visual representation of how misogynist men will flock to a rapist’s defense no matter what and defend his actions always, denouncing and attacking any who point out “their boy”‘s crime.
It’s happened time and time again in a lot of communities I’ve belonged to.
Panel 6: 🙂
I’m happy to see you back in action, better form of AG who isn’t all about paranoid delusions and stalking unarmed black people.
Oh, adding a note to note that bite lip in Panel 6. She’s really enjoying this and the chance to beat up folks who deserve it in every way instead of the moral confusion of having a bunch of racists cheering on her impending fight with Sal.
Yeah… we’ve already established that Amber/AG is not a healthy individual. As satisfying as this morally simple situation may be, it’s not a healthy one.
Yeah, this could end up really badly. Everything Sal and Danny have been trying to impart to her, that she needs to stop because she’ll get herself killed, is being completely brushed aside because right now she’s morally vindicated in striking down Ryan.
Hopefully this ends up being Amazi-Girl’s last dance.
And that afterwards people getting robbed, beat up, raped etc. will just have to lump it and do without Amazigirl’s help. Because hopefully this is her last dance. That is what we want isn’t it?
Willis has stated that he put Amazi-Girl in DoA as his outlet for when he wanted to draw action scenes. So unless he no longer feels that desire, she’s not going anywhere any time soon.
I’d kinda like to point out one thing you said there. “he’ll be even more wanting to track her down after …” You think he’d go that far? Honestly, if this ends up going that badly.
I mean, I know he and Joyce will have to have a face to face eventually.
At least, that’s how it seems. But. How soon after this?
So far DoA has completely avoided the real world horror of Toedad’s trial where Becky, Joyce and Dina would be mercilessly grilled by his defense lawyers in open court. And I can’t see Toedad pleading guilty since he’s sure that “God is on his side”.
Ryan’s trial would be even worse. Far worse for Joyce than her nightmares.
(And my, I’m sorries, to Cerberus and others for any pain this may be causing you.)
Not quite. It’ll probably be about a month for the preliminary hearing to be done, then about 60 days before an actual court day (can vary depending on how overworked the court is) assuming no one files for additional time for information gathering. Also depends if Toedad hires his own lawyer or uses a public defender. Actually he could represent himself (best case scenario for the trio) which I can see him opting for.
If Willlis decides to include this it’ll be a while, real time for it to show up. Also I feel that there’s a chance he might place himself in situations where he will be hurt or possibly killed as a way to harm Becky. There’s quite a few paths he could easily choose behind bars.
Like I said, “So far”. Hopefully, based on how long you mentioned it takes to happen, combined with the in-comic time vs. real world time, it will be a decade from now, our time. I’ll set a reminder to start dreading it in 2025.
And yeah, Toedad’s “God is on his side” attitude could “negative impact his survival rate” among the “heathens” behind bars, especially if he tries to “fix” them. (quotes quota achieved!)
Regarding Amazigirl’s choice of one-liner in panel 6 though, I’m wondering if I’m the only person who feels that it sort of plays into the same toxic cultural things? (Namely the use of lack of sexual prowess as a go-to insult)
I believe hardline gender divides goes hand in hand with it. Any gender specific insults dehumanize all genders. Like calling a guy a ‘pussy’ is to call him weak, cowardly, as well as indicates that women are the same.
So I feel like making some easy money here. 10 bucks says Amazigirl kicks a fair amount of ass but becomes overwhelmed until Sal and/or Marcie step in to help her out.
Even easier money- 20 more bucks says this moment of not being completely at one another’s respective throats creates (or more likely just attracts more members to) the Sal/Amazigirl ship.
I’ll toss in a small 5 dollar bet on an unmasking. Nobody she’s gone against has ever tried it, so she probably won’t be considering it as a possibility, and that’d have some pretty good Consequences to carry all through the book. (Though on the other hand, I haven’t looked through the preview panels to see whether a still-masked AG is in later strips still doing the vigilante thing because dialup is sloooow, and it would also make a good book-ending cliffhanger to have her unmasked, hence the small bet)
I’m curious to see where this goes. Just as a narrative structure, I see a lot of potential for things to go horribly wrong here. This is the beginning of the book, so if Ryan is meant to be a major source of conflict or trauma, it would be an odd choice to wrap it up so early.
It is certainly possible his reappearance is meant to progress Amber/AG’s arc or Sal’s (given that the book began with a flashback of Sal’s childhood). Perhaps AG grinding him into a stain on the floor is a catalyst for growth, but I am very worried that won’t be the case.
*Tsk* No skill, no strategy and no reflexes. They’re just going to try to rely on their upper body strength and numbers to win this fight. Something tells me that school is about to come into session for them and it isn’t going to be a painless lesson.
Now, see, the situation may be at the point where Ryan will likely never see the inside of a jail cell…
…but when Amazi-Girl’s done with him, he’s gonna have a -12 reduction to Charisma. Turns out, missing teeth aren’t as (Persuasive/Intimidating) as a scar.
Am I getting a strong vibe like the scene in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon when the hero is just standing there, all relaxed, dodging the rogue’s every attack and only occasionally having to use his sword to deflect a hit? The skill differential between Amazi-Girl and the douchebros is likely going to turn out to be embarrassing.
You know, I watched that movie when I was really little (arbitrarily younger, I have no idea when) and it was bizarre… I should probably watch it again.
Actually, has anyone thought of the possibility that Ryan didn’t tell his bros the whole story and they don’t know his crime when standing up for him? Because I can’t imagine him going out for beers and bragging about roofiing a girl. They might have a version of the incident in their heads where Ryan got the scar innocently. I wish Amazi-girl had asked them if they knew, they might have said ‘woah stop, not cool bro’
Of course he didn’t tell them the truth. There’s been a couple suggested versions posted already.
Still, I’d be interested to hear a version that fits both “That bongo that cut my face sent her” and not going to the police about it and could be swallowed by anyone who’s not a misogynist ass.
“Shit, dude, once I fought her and crazy friend off, what was I gonna do? It’s not like the cops ever charge chicks for anything. It’s a broken system, man. I just had to let it go.”
Spencer’s first sentence, then:
“It was a crazy party, like, really crazy, and some of my bros probably would’ve been arrested for… stuff. Ya’know, college party stuff?”
Considering he had the stones to call Joyce a “tease” for talking to him, I get the feeling that he wouldn’t even have to lie. Dude obviously has his own version of reality playing in his head.
“She was talking to me and everything, but when I tried to seal the deal, bongo went all psycho on me! And I was being such a nice guy.”
Happy Anniversary! Seeing as how Amazi-Girl already handled Beef without much difficulty these 3 should be easy which is why I fear that silent alarm Marcie pushed is going to bring the police into this.
A silent alarm directly calling the police? At a place where there is already a security team in place? That does not make any sense!
Also the silent alarm was for calling other members of her security team, who already arrived in this strip (explicitly mentioning the alert) – did you miss that?
There are rumours of a re-release floating around lately.
I’d be down with it, even though I am a flipper handed mutant child when it comes to fighting games. If it included some new folks like Mega Man and Squirrel Girl I’d be there day one.
Yeah, I’m still in. I have both versions already. My usual team is Deadpool, Dante and Zero, but that’d probably change with the addition of SG. (It nearly did for Hawkeye.)
See, I’m thinking that since Joyce never filed a report, and since it’s her word against his, with his being associated with an ‘upstanding family values’ politician, that this is just going to turn into a sh!tstorm that drags Joyce through the mud. I mean, she already brought her gay friend and all that drama onto campus, and now she has masked vigilantes beating up a guy who she claims drugged and attempted to assault her (‘hey, I turned her down, bros! she’s just salty she couldn’t get a piece of this! hurr hurr’)
I dunno, this just feels like it’s going to go spectacularly bad in the long term, even if Amazegirl does manage to pull off pounding Douchey McRapey into pieces. :/
I was thinking about how the political fallout of having a would-be date rapist on staff could harm DeSanto’s campaign. Then I remembered that she’s running as a Republican.
Also “give me that phone”? Does scarface not know how the internet or cloud servers work? It doesn’t matter if you delete the pic off a phone AFTER it’s uploaded. Once it’s been uploaded it belongs to the internet.
It would be a long shot, but if AG was still logged in, some social media lets you delete your own uploads. (They don’t actually get deleted. They just stop being visible.)
Alright. I’ll be the first one to say it.
That lip bite in the last panel looks… suggestive. I think she’s a little TOO excited about kicking his ass than she should be, here.
I don’t like how people are on the warpath on today’s comic. Reminds me a bit too strongly about the cheering for AG to beat up Sal..
Though I wonder if Sal sees AG as doing what she wishes she herself could do (stand up to bullies, etc) or as a grim reminder of who she used to be (violent & unstable) and down the same path.
I would bet the former, as it would make it all the more dramatic once she realizes just who put AG down that path.
Well for starters, Sal’s just a kid with some deeply complicated personal history going on with Amber, while Ryan is an actual rapist who avoided justice.
Sal is at best a trigger for Amber. The real cause of Amber’s struggles has always been Blaine.
If Ryan getting a fraction of what he deserves makes you uncomfortable, you need to serious reflect on why. Because unless you have an intense aversion to violence, it sounds like a problem on your end.
Even “ganging up on AG” and even if they attack AG, the two of them will not not have done anything worse than what Malaya, Marcie & Carla did when AG went after Sal.
The main difference is that we, the readers, know that Ryan is a rapist.
“Amazi-Girl also knows that Ryan is a rapist. She went made a point of confirming this.”
And my point remains, that WE know this, as readers, and that THEY, not being readers of the comic, and not having been informed of the fact, don’t. And that you keep judging them based on the knowledge that we, the readers, have, not the knowledge that THEY do.
“…and Sal and her friends merely subdued AG and left. They didn’t actually curb stomp her like these dudes seem intent on doing.”
I don’t see where you get the idea that these dudes seem “intent” on causing severe injuries or in fact any injuries on AG, if that’s what you mean by curbstomping.
I’m sure they’ll turn out to be evil incarnate quite soon, but they’ve not done anything evil yet. Only guilty of the stupidity of supporting an acquaintance/friend without knowing all the facts. I hope that AG actually informs them of Ryan’s actions and gives them a chance to back off.
“If they attack her they deserve what they get. ” The operative word being “if”.
Ryan is already trying to hit her. Look at panel two. He’s not trying to snatch her phone there, that’s a closed fist. Then two just showed up and announced their intent to join in.
I don’t care how fucking butthurt their bro is, it doesn’t justify violence. Especially not three-on-one violence, but these two are clearly are totally okay with it. The odds of them not being dickbags are slim.
So while they haven’t done anything yet, that’s obviously where this is headed. And there are categories of asshole below “rapist”, or even “obviously misogynistic dudebro”, which they could fall into and still be shitty people.
I think the other two know what Ryan tried to do to Joyce, he did say to them that AG was sent by “That bongo who slashed my face”. They might not be rapists, but they might be accessories to the crime or after the fact.
And if they help Ryan attack someone, they are guilty of assault.
Well, I’m conflicted on it. And I think we’re supposed to be. The quick switch and the parallels between AGs stalking of Sal and her attack on Ryan are significant. I don’t think we’re really switching from “Damn, AG is crazy and needs to be stopped” to “Yay AG! Stomp the bad guy!” At least I hope that’s not the story.
I get it. We know Sal’s cool now and doesn’t deserve AG’s hatred. We know Ryan’s a rapist. We even know the legal system isn’t likely to touch him. But the common connector here is Amazi-Girl and we know that this isn’t good for her and we know her judgment can’t be trusted. She’s right here. She knows Ryan is the rapist.
She also knows Sal is a villain.
There is a key difference between them though. With Sal, it was an exclusively emotional process that informed her actions, Amber ran into Sal, had a panic attack and Amazi-Girl went out stalking.
Here, there was a clear rational process to it. She saw Ryan, realized who he was, snapped out of her unhealthy fixation on Sal, got confirmation, and apparently came up with a plan. It was different in a lot more than whether the person in for a beating deserves it.
Ryan, innocent people don’t say “You can’t prove anything”, they say stuff like “What the fuck are you talking about?” and “I never did anything like that!”
OOOOOOOOH SNAP
Snap his arm, preferably.
Most definitely preferable. But apparently violent vigilantism has consequences or something, such boring rules.
Not when they attack first!
Indeed and the dude is gonna need aloe for that burn.
Awww yissss. Things are going to get down and dirty
That burn on his FAAAAAAACE
Huh that did not go where I expected
So three on one. Two are misinformed idiots and the thirds cosplaying as scarface, theres a girl in a yellow spandex suit who tries to sound like batman in the Nolan films and there’s a governor electoral debate going on in like what? five minutes, there’s nothing interesting that could come from this set up. 😉
The way you described it, it sounds like a bad joke, or a ridiculous dc storyline
There’s a difference?
sizzle
Hey, bacon!
I was going for sarcasm but, that works too.
I sincerely doubt that the two idiots are misinformed. Joyce straight up jacked up his face. The fact that he didn’t go to the police to report “that bongo” for Smurfing his face would have been a giveaway that he earned that cut by doing something highly illegal.
Yeah, they’re not misinformed, but this crowd probably sees rape as justified.
Why so?
She was at a party, she was pretty, and men just can’t help themselves, you know? It’s like waving a piece of meat in front of a hungry dog!
Yeah, the feminists are really not the ones disrespecting men and comparing them to animals in this debate…
We know nothing about Dawson yet. We also know Dawson wasn’t there when Amazigirl called Leland out for drugging. Does he even know about the party?
Smurfing?
Percussion instruments. Man, Willis is getting more and more creative with those filters, isn’t he? I love it!
Pretty sure it’s 99% self-censorship… but what do I know?
s’not one of mine
Yet.
That’s a self-censorship, yeah.
My 99% guess was actually referring to people, in the comments in general, engaging in self-censorship.
And they were likely all “Man, I get you. Percussion instruments be crazy.”
I actually processed this sentence as intended before I realized that heeeeey, “percussion instrument” is not a synonym for “female dog”!
Our comment section jargon is starting to get more convoluted than Cockney rhyming slang. 😀
Not as bad as Dimwell Arrhythmic Rhyming Slang yet, though.
Nah, brah. That’s obviously plain clothes Kylo Ren. Rylo Ren, as it were.
I’ve cosplayed in weirder settings.
You forgot the part where there’s said girl in yellow spandex’s rival who has previous saved said girl and will probably jump in on this if needed.
That last panel made me involuntarily snap my fingers three times.
In a Z formation?
Is there any other way?
Wait, don’t you snap your fingers four times in a Z formation, one snap for each point of the “Z”?
You snap the lines, not the points. Move your hand across while snapping, down and over while snapping, and across once again while snapping. This ends the “drag queen in a tizzy” tutorial.
Weren’t z snaps a black thing rather than a drag thing?
…I thought they were a gay thing…?
In order of cultural perfusion/appropriation, many things start in black culture, then drag culture, then LGBT culture, then everybody else
Is there any other way to snap your fingers three times?
Oh! You did NOT just Ninja me!
**snap snap snap**
I have never been able to snap my fingers and it haunts me at night sometimes
same
i can only snap my fingers on my right hand. I cant do it on my left (oddly enough though I’m left handed so explain that one to me)
I thought I was the only one! Except I’m right handed and snap with my left. Apparently, I look in the mirror and see the devil.
Thats weird. I can do it with my left (rrally loudly for whatever reason) but i can never get my right hand to pull it off. Correctly anyway.
There’s an app for that.
I can snap my fingers just fine, but I can’t whistle.
It took me until my 20s, basically senior year of college, to learn to snap my fingers AND whistle, but it happened!
It gets better, friends! 🙂
(Still working on learning to blow a bubble with my gum though.)
I got so pissed off at my parents and the people around me being able to whistle that I spent a good month trying non-stop when I was like 7 or 8 I think… so I’ve known how to since then.
You know how to whistle, don’t you ety? You just put your lips together, and blow.
Can you blow my whistle baby?
Now I feel guilty for being able to double snap on both hands.
But not too guilty because I worked to learn that, dammit.
Heh, you can tell Amber has been rehearsing that line…
Happy birthday DoA. Let’s celebrate with an asskicking!
As an ass myself, I fully support this notion.
I will soon be 3x as old as DoA due to time zones and such. Yeah!
so your a mASSacost.
oh, right. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Dumbing of Age.
…Massochist?
shit, I did spell that wrong didn’t I. Sorry, my joke failed.
Maybe you should be a sASScot.
Yeah, the double pun makes it a bit too confusing, doesn’t it?
FU too, close tag.
You know, I’ve been thinking. I need some staff for my imperial palace, and I was wondering…
Would you like to be my buttler?
Buttd the butler. Hmmm.
Butts the Butler. The one time autocorrect would have saved me, it sits there.
Happy Birthday DoA. 😉
Merry Christmas!
I hereby decree that Amazi-Girl will be sass Kingdom’s next ruler!
Why shouldn’t she rule the sass kingdom? She already rules the ass kingdom.
What if she rules… both?
That’s what I said.
Well I’m an idiot. We need to gift Amazi-Girl more Kingdoms though! Sass Kingdom, Ass Kingdom… Bass Kingdom? *Drops Bass Kingdom*
She can’t rule Bass Kingdom unless she gains the power to talk to fish.
Maybe Brass Kingdom?
If she does right and brass knuckles Ryan’s teeth in
What about ruler of the Glass Kingdom? Although I’ve heard the castle is quite delicate…
Too much jawboning in the Glass Kingdom.
Wait, who’s sassing Klingons?
Probably Kirk, but I don’t know if they’d notice if Spock did.
These attacks are the result of an ass sassin’ and a misogynist who thinks he’s a cut above the rest.
Oooo burn!
This is going to go SO well.
…Where did Tyler go?
Tyler got out while the gettin’ was good.
Tyler is in the john.
So who are Taylor and Dawson?
Taylor: The 13th President of the United States. Prior to becoming President, he was a general who had a reputation for being an incredible badass, but once in office he soon died of food poisoning from eating some spoiled cherries. Was the reason that Millard Fillmore became President.
Dawson: The star of some stupid teen-focused TV show that I never watched.
Make that the 12th President. We really need an edit feature on this board!
Dawson was, in fact, the original host of The Family Feud and a regular panelist on Match Game.
He also played Newkirk in Hogan’s Heroes.
Everybody’s a fookin’ comedian.
Marry me.
Funnily enough, Les Dawson used to be Britain’s Greatest Northern Comic.
That Dawson was always up the creek without a paddle.
I dunno, the fact that she’s wearing a superhero cape isn’t going to change the fact that it’s 3-to-1 odds now.
Ryan had no skills to start with, and now he’s being backed up by two guys who are about a match for Ethan. She’s still way ahead.
yeah, and keep in mind she’s been trained in self-defense. she knows what she’s doing. these dudes might have been in lame “you were dancin’ with mah lady” slap fights, but the difference between some schmuck who thinks he knows how to fight and a person who actually has fight training and experience becomes apparent pretty quickly. three against one might make things tricky, but as long as she remains calm and controls the situation, she’ll be fine.
I can’t think of a way to express how perfect that last bit is for amazigirl.
also i hope sal helps out. after all i am sure she would be glad to help deal with someone who rapes people
My prediction is Amazigirl gets in over her head fighting 3v1, she is holding her own but losing, and Sal comes in at the last second to help, forcing Amber to reevaluate how she perceives her.
Sal saving Amazi-girl from becoming a smear on the pavement didn’t earn her respect last time though, in fact it made her angrier
Maybe.
That burn alone should have done some critical damage x)
alright. confirm the crit.
That’ll be tomorrow, I hope.
Their AC is low, ll you have to do to confirm is roll a 13 or higher.
Accurate portrayal of American political rallies.
At some American political rallies, the Presidential candidate actually encourages the violence.
Walkypedia is still looking for more contributors. Just wanted to get the formatting right today.
Quick, get Sapphire or Katara or sombody cuz thAT WAS THE SICKEST BURN
Does that mean Amazi-Girl is Azula?
That’s really more Sal territory.
If Sal is Azula than does that make Walky… I want this mashup now.
No, no, Amber is Zuko and Amazi-Girl is the Blue Spirit.
Guys, you’re forgetting the most important question. Who’s Iroh in this mashup?
Well, she’s got witnesses now. She didn’t initiate the fight. It’ll all be self-defense.
Let’s just hope other people will be recording this… and that Amazi-Girl also turned on video recording on her cell while Ryan was yelling at her.
yup all she did was talk to, in a manner that had no threats of physical harm, and take the picture of someone in what i suspect is a public place
You know what this means?
This means Amazi-Girl will be fighting several dudes at once by the time onlookers catch up, making her case a more appealing one to those just tuning in.
Yeah! That totally reverses the narrative I was worried about, when it’s three on one.
This is in an indoor, relatively crowded place. Is she really going to do this? Are people going to allow three on one? I certainly wouldn’t.
What assholes to gang up on anyone (girl/guy) that way.
well to use a different comparison, but one i suspect a large amount of people know dudley in harry potter had a group as well that he worked with even though he was capable by himself for many of the ones he bullied iirc
the type of assholes who roofie drinks, then think the people who dislike them for doing so and fight back are bongoes because they didn’t roll over and submit.
I get why Willis installed that autocorrect, but it sort of robs comments like this of their dignity, doesn’t it.
Yeah, my asshole comment wasn’t a question-didn’t need to be explained. But I do agree with y’all. 😀
“You can’t prove anything” is possibly the STUPIDEST thing someone can say in a situation like that.
I’m pretty sure that would actually be “I totally did it and will do it again because I feel no remorse!”
“You can’t prove anything” means exactly that, though, with the addition of “and I’m stupid and dishonest enough to think saying this is a defense”.
I suppose “Don’t you know who I am?” might be in the running as a topper, but given the previous strip I don’t think that one’s going to happen.
Bonus: There’s now at least two more people there who know who Ryan is. Y’know the old saying about secrets, yeah?
“Y’know the old saying about secrets, yeah?”
Oh, I love that one…
Unfortunately, in certain cases, despite meaning just that, “You can’t prove anything” is still enough to defend someone.
Nah, “I totally did it and will do it again because I feel no remorse!” could be taken as sarcasm. “You can’t prove anything!” is almost as good as admitting that there is something to prove.
THANK YOU! Seriously, what kind of idiot says that in ajy situation where he is the accused. “You can’t prove anything.” “Well I don’t need to now.”
“I didn’t do it. Nobody saw me.”
Hey Ryan, you forgot the part where you tried to rape the woman who cut your face, asshole.
Seriously. Didn’t think it was possible for me to hate this piece of shit more than I already do, and then he pulled that line.
And the black women who broke your ribs and gave you a concussion.
And if he didn’t?
Ladies and gentlemen, an object lesson in how to throw shade.
No nurse, physician nor surgeon will be able to treat that burn!!!
This level of burn is more Smokey the Bear’s jurisdiction.
good old wadey
Hey, Scar! Nice to hear from you. You gonna stop by the Kourt while you’re online?
perhaps
Last panel is by far the most disturbing slipshine intro ever.
i just need to leave them brain dead and turn them into fleshy vibrators
that would be about the only scenerio i can think of for it to work.
Wouldn’t she then be [ trigger ] them?
Oooh! Looks like somebody needs some cool, running water for that burn.
CHRIST AMBER THAT WAS VICIOUS
Can’t wait to watch this go down. Bets on Sal sailing in to help? >)
I’m wondering about this as well. Fighting for what’s right is something that we know resonates with Sal from those flashbacks we’ve been getting. Of course, Sal also doesn’t have the benefit of the anonymity of a superhero mask.
…And if she joins in, the crowd will turn on them like that, the fuckin’ racists.
I’m thinking that Amazi-Girl’s less horrible fans in the crowd will start noticing that post she just made, and this is going to turn into an all-out melee.
I’ve been trying to decide if the bystander comment in panel 4 is related to the posting. The person might have just recognize him from her post.
Oh shit, you’re right! AG even looks back at her with a sly grin on her face!
yeeeeeeess
*Brings out a lawn chair*
BROS BROS BROS oh wait no.
and i think thats from questionable content not doa
Bro?
broooooOOOOoooo
Row row, fight the powah!
…and the Sal and Marcie come to the rescue: League of Super-Femmes, Assemble!
“then”
Their powers united, they form ….?
But did they engage their mega-thrusters?
The power puff girls
Which makes these three stooges… what were the evil boys called?
They’re all Mojo Jojo.
But I like Mojo Jojo! Not so much with these… things.
Rowdyruff Boys.
Thanks.
Rowdyrough Boys I think
Sarah needs to come to the rally so we can have a Fearsome Femme Fatale Foursome.
See, rationally I totally agree with you… but I still want to see that motherfucker get his ass whooped.
I think the face is to express that she’s uh, “satisfied”. Or something. >_>
…Did not consider that, but okay, sure, why not.
Isn’t that her Dirty Harry “Go ahead, make my day.” look?
Yup.
“Not touching you, not touching you, not touching you…. YOU TOUCHED ME, NOW I CAN TOUCH YOU BACK!!! FOR JUSTICE!!!”
That said…. it was an EPIC burn in the last panel.
Amber has a lot of anger that she isn’t dealing with but she’s been good so far at keeping it appropriate.
and Blaine was mirroring the most traumatic incident in her life.
Calling it now: Sal’s the one who stops her from going too far.
i respect your right to believe that, but i personally think that there is a bigger chance that pigs will fly around on bat wings handing out newspapers announcing the election of Jill Stein and her VP Donald Trump than that.
I think Marcie will do it
Nah. This is Amazi-Girl. She’s pretty much in control of the beatings she hands out. Amber nearly killed Blaine. Ryan, despicable though he is, isn’t one of her triggers. She won’t react to him like that.
I agree… :/
I sense a Marvel Team-Up coming! Or, the Brave and the Bold if DC is more to your taste!
I remember that night, I just might – rewind –
(Revise from romantic context to righteous revenge)
So where’s the typhoon then?
Hurricane AmaziGirl.
Yeah, fight the known superhero who has beat up dudes way tougher than you.
That’ll go well.
(Please kick their collective teeth in AG.)
the one that was in a high speed chase on foot.
The one who jumped onto a friggin’ moving truck.
The one who… Has condoms?
and a slashfic obsession. omg, if amber ever did get powers i request that it be the power to initiate yaoi
Amazi-girl delivered an Amazi-burn right there.
Regarding the comments on earlier pages about how the crowd might not be racist d-bags… can’t help but notice a complete lack of cheering for Amazi-Girl right now.
I don’t think the crowd can see.
To be fair, it took a few strips for the crowd to get going earlier.
Yup. It’s a rather stark contrast that the crowd faces here seem confused or stunned rather than cheering her on in the similar aggressive manner they did the impending fight with Sal.
Though it does appear that some are starting to wonder.
I’m still trying to figure out what “dude check out his scar” means. Does he think it’s a wicked cool scar? Does he think the guy looks like trouble? Does he find the scar itself attractive, and is rating its appearance on a scale of ten? I have to know!
For me it was worried. Like they noticed it after he started flipping out, like maybe he’s a dangerous thug. But I could just be projecting.
I kind of want to print this strip and frame it and put it on my wall.
you know shits going down when amazi-girl’s eyes sparkle and she throws in a burn
Hurrah!
Though I do believe they have deeper characterization here. Well, relatively speaking.
Of course he supports DeSanto (or at least her party)
Three to one. She’s got them outnumbered all by herself, though.
They should bring in a few more, to try to make it a fair fight.
“Three of us against one girl? Easy!”
Oh, you sweet, sweet summer rapists.
… Why did reading that comment make me think og Game of Thrones?
I wonder how much he told his frat bros, and what he told them about why Joyce cut him.
I’m hoping for satisfaction, but three on one odds ain’t looking good…
I was thinking about that myself. My money’s on them at least knowing enough to need to rationalize it away, if not the complete truth.
Ugh.
Yeah. They’re pretty much the worst, I wouldn’t be surprised.
(By the way, I don’t know if I mentioned this but your tumblr is pretty much the best for the title alone.)
Haha, thanks! I can’t say I’m surprised you like the title.
At some point I may get ambitious with it and actually start posting original content on it
Let me know if you do!
Also, I think your gravatar picture might be predisposing me to like you and your comments more…
Three on one odds are fine for a bunch of pansy-ass pricks like that. Remember, Amazi-Girl has taken down much larger dudes in two-on-ones that I can remember.
And they’re as pathetic as Ryan is at trying to grab the phone (twice), she won’t even break a sweat.
Not to mention that a very drugged Joyce managed to do major damage to him even before Sarah took him down.
I bet he told them “some crazy bongo cut me becuause she was crazy”
I’m just fucking fed up with women.”
Good, then go fuck your bros, since you all seem to like asses.
I gotta wonder, does anyone actually use “urban” as a codeword in casual conversation? I always thought of that as a politician’s dogwhistle.
Yes. The people I grew up with used it all the fucking time.
Oh good, just what any situation needs. A roving pack of bros.
Not roving very far – this is a conservative rally on a college campus. This is, like, their home base.
I have a feeling this will mess up Desanto in college appeal. Having someone who is being accused of attempted rape, and two men defending it on your out reach team even as unpaid interns is not good. This is going to spiral out of control for more than just Ryan.
She could denounce them entirely, publicly, but given her party affiliations…
(Almost typed afflictions. Not totally wrong in this case.)
Third DEGREE!
Love the burn, Damn that was classic.
AG is surrounded, she has them right where she wants them 🙂
Betting Sal jumps in on this one.
This strip is the best setup so far for the AG & Sal join-up that many have been predicting/dreaming-of since Ryan was spotted.
Hrm … they’ll be too much for amazigirl and sal will help her out of her bind.
All it takes is one guy latching onto her leg to let the other two do some damage.
If they can even manage it? They’re coded as goons dude, goons are very obvious in their movements and easy to maneuver if you know how to right.
So it’s gonna be Sal and Amazigirl (and maybe Marcie) vs the trio of idiots? Hell I would skip the conference just to watch this. I like where this is going.
They’re NOT gonna be polite and go in one-at-a-time.
I think Sal will wind up helping. I don’t know if that will be good or *bad* for Amber/Amazigirl’s psyche-I could see it going either way.
Well yeah, this is the real world. But I do believe that Batman and such have teamed up with villains before to battle worse ones.
A distinct possibility.
Certainly, depending on how this night goes, he’ll have additional reasons to want to seek her out and “seek revenge” for “his troubles” and for “ruining his life”.
And what if one of those hallucinations that Joyce had of Ryan, was actually Ryan looking for her?
Now that’d be a twist with some meat on it.
“BOOOOOOO, start hitting black people again”
Amazi-Girl has strength, agility, fighting skills and is wearing boots. Those dudes are all hat and no cattle, prolly never have been in a real fight in their lives and have Big Jim and The Twins hangin’ there ready for Amazi-Girl to score a field goal. My bets on Amazi-Girl to take the gold.
Ditto. And of course, once people see three males teaming up on a single female — even if she is in a super-hero jumpsuit — Amazi-Girl is going to have all the help she will need.
I don’t know how many people it would take to kick Amazi-Girl’s ass, but I know how many people are going to try. And it’s not going to be enough.
Please tell me that Sal & Amazi-Girl team up on these 3!
(And what a great resolution for the history between Sal & Amber)
AG needs antagonize them to get them to attack soon. Sal, Marcie and security will be arriving, then this will get WAY more complicated and she won’t have as much control of the outcome.
For some reason I thought Ryan and Leland were the same guy. Or, I thought Leland was Ryan. Or, I thought Ryan was Leland. — Did anyone else make that mistake? Was the schoolyard bully who got away with abusing Marcie so long ago, not the same guy as the wannabe-rapist who roofied Joyce?
Correct, they are two separate people.
There were a few that thought that. They may possible be dead now for saying such. I pray for your soul.
It may be correct to say that they be one in mind and spirit, but it certainly is not to suggest they be one in body.
Nah.. I was one of them. May my soul rest in peace.
Oh, right, I forgot to say- Happy Birthday DoA!
And while I’m asking — How did Ryan manage to find such a concentration of d-baggery to land in?
^Spot on.
All of this.
Seeing it in your reply and mine as well: it’s rather pleasing to see the “b-word” replaced by “bongo” everywhere it appears.
it’s fun 😀
Oh Amazigirl, I’d punch you if you it made you smile.
It’s not your punch that’d make her smile, it’s the anticipation of all the punches she gets to send your way.
Some people might be okay with that too if it makes her smile…
I just thought we should make sure Thevoiceoftreason knew what he was asking for.
What better way to celebrate the comic’s birthday than a hilarious joke about male inadequacy- happy birthday DoA!
1st: Zing!
2nd: Implications of there being more than one of Ryan here?
oh, and 3rd: Cerberus, as well as others who names escape me right now, please find your safe place, this must be tough on you right now.
Well, I do have future plans to bake lots and lots of cookies for folks tomorrow…
My aunt said, “A warm cookie is happiness in chewy form.”
Hm!
Will more ‘bros join in the fight?
Did Dorothy alert Sarah, resulting in the Wrath of Old Testament God marching forth with baseball bat in hand?
Will Sal side with Amazi-Girl?
Will Marcie and her fellow security team members try to defuse the situation? If so, will Marcie be lashed out at by Ryan, thereby polarizing Sal if she wasn’t enraged enough already?
Will Archie every decide on who to be with?
FIND OUT ON THE NEXT DRAGON! BALL! Z!
I’m old enough that, for me, it’s “The answers to these, and other, questions… on the next episode of SOAP!”
I’m old enough that for me it’s “Tune in tomorrow, same bat-time, same bat-channel!”
The Batman one seemed too obvious for me, and I was thinking about the SOAP one, I just couldn’t remember it correctly (like it was from SOAP).
SOAP was awesome.
“You strike me as a woman who has never been satisfied.”
Oh, wow. I’m just now getting he’s the guy from the trio of douchebags in Shortpacked!
I think the third guy is Tyler, and that Ryan is wholly a new character.
Ryan isn’t new. Ryan showed up in not quite so evil a way in Ruth’s backstory in Roomies. Though he was younger and could easily have worked his way up to the Ryan we know by college.
That’s right. Are there any unique named characters in this `verse?
I think Other Rachel is new to DoA
Nope. She was in Agatha’s squad in It’s Walky!
Asma?
The Pastors at Joyce’s church, I think.
Maybe the girl Becky got caught with.
Jim & Bryan?
Pretty sure about Sayid.
Oh, Pastor Powers definitely has a presence in It’s Walky!.
Bryan and Jim are also members of Daisy’s squad.
The full trio was pictured in their first showing in DoA. He’s not one of them, they just have as bad or worse taste in friends as in Shortpacked!.
Huh. Somehow Ryan being a frat douche surprises me. I guess I always pegged him for being the “I’m a loner and its [enter group]’s fault” kinda guy.
It’s unfortunately never safe to assume that jackasses don’t have friends.
That’s right Amazi-girl, insult their sexuality!
DAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN!
You, sir, have killed me. I am dead.
I cannot friggin WAIT until tomorrow’s update!!!
(Happy DOA birthday, BTW!)
I demand satisfaction!
I demand retribution!
I demand cookies!
I’m with the Sarge here. Cookies for the win, especially if they’re kicked outta the dudebros.
Come to the dark side, we have cookies
I demand that tomorrow we have a cut scene to show how Ruth is doing.
What?
Roz will be delighted – “Caped crusader busts election rally”. I feel sorry for Leslie, though.
Yes, Amazi-Girl is busty indeed, isn’t she.
“Is this some kind of a bust?”
“Yes, it’s most impressive, but, that’s not why we’re here.”
-Leslie Neilsen, Police Squad
On the other hand, if the rally turns into a brawl, Leslie might have more time with Robin.
I don’t like those interns anymore :/
Anymore?!
So there was a point you found them likeable?
They were funny when they were just a joke. Don’t know about likable.
It’s the Winklevii!
Oh the unpaid interns http://www.dumbingofage.com/2016/comic/book-6/04-it-all-returns/frieda/ well guys it seems more than one person plays you for chumps.
I am still worrying for AG, by this point we all know this is unhealthy but now she has two fight 3 guys and the people who might side with this douche…
BEAT THEIR ASSES! HAVE SAL AND MARCIE ASSIT
YeEAaH Amazi-Girl and Ryan, fight fight figh- oh goddamit I thought I’d never have to see these guys again
Guess my hubris was my downfall…
Well, on the bright side, we’re highly likely to see them get some degree of comeuppance.
As in, “When y’all have recovered from that beating, comeuppance see me for some more.”
Yay, six years! I say we partake in a sexennial poop.
Congrats, Willis!! Been here since the beginning of DoA, and still loving it!
Amazi-burn
Break out the Amazi-Vera?
Comic Reactions:
The way Amazi-Girl is portrayed as this ultimate badass, makes me wonder if at some point a villain will show up who outclasses her.
I believe the answer is Yus.
Sorry. (Not really.)
Sydney Yus being a badass would be amazing…and incredible unexpected.
She’s been teased, so it fit as a joke, but yeah, not really expecting badass.
Wait, weren’t there 3 interns? Where’s the other one, is he going to jump Amazi-Girl the least she expects?( that”s what he would think, he doesn’t know AG is always prepared for everything).
Somehow I think velociraptor-level strategy is beyond these guys.
Also, Amber rooms with a master of Raptor-fu. She’d be crazy to have not picked up a few things.
you can never be satisfied
god i hope you’re satisfied
“Do you seriously think I’d explain my master-stroke if there remained the slightest chance of you affecting its outcome? I did it
thirty-five minutes ago.”Right up there with, “You were doomed the moment you showed your face, ’cause no matter how this ends for me, you can be certain it will end worse for you.”.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_burn_centers_in_the_United_States
So far this is my favorite comment.
Janine…
YOU’RE THE BEST!
AROUND!
NOTHING’S GONNA EVER TAKE YOU DOWN!
So does anyone else get the feeling this page exists solely for this reason?
She should have been recording this conversation. Especially the “you can’t prove anything” line.
who says she isn’t?
Speaking meta here, but if Amber stops being Amazi-Girl then crime as a concept the story will address also stops.
Speaking in-story, if Amber doesn’t stop then she’s going to get turned into hamburger meat by a truck.
Willis has stated that he put Amazi-Girl in DoA as his outlet for when he wanted to draw action scenes. So unless he no longer feels that desire, she’s not going anywhere any time soon.
Amazi-Girl has also become a symbol of Amber’s self hatred, violent ideation, and fracturing personas. She, flatly, is not a positive concept anymore.
We’re not going to be in for “Amber is mentally ill but it’s okay as long as she directs her crazy at people who deserve it.”
Not sure… this might be a sword of Damocles situation like with Toedad.
Spot on analysis as usual. 🙂
Oh Ryan…
…before that night you were the boy next door. The preacher’s son.
Now?
Now you’re Ernst Stavro Blofeld.
I don’t think he’s smart enough to be Blofeld
Also, he has a critical lack of white cats to stroke.
I like that burn. That is a nice burn :3
That ship already exists. Fork over the 20 bucks.
That burn’s gonna leave another scar.
Happy birthday Dumbing of Age.
I’ll say congrats on 6 years, but it’ll still be 10 months until I’ve been reading this that long.
Being beaten senseless doesn’t mean an antagonist has been defeated; at most it will mean that he has a motive to come back later for revenge.
*Tsk* No skill, no strategy and no reflexes. They’re just going to try to rely on their upper body strength and numbers to win this fight. Something tells me that school is about to come into session for them and it isn’t going to be a painless lesson.
On the other hand, with upper body strength, they only need to get in one lucky blow.
Never underestimate an unskilled opponent. Just put him down as fast and safely as you can.
Eh, Bluff combined with Perform (Acting) can cover the slack.
Amazi-Girl and Spider-Man should compare notes.
When you can’t have justice, revenge is the next best thing. And I really, really want Joyce to get her revenge.
Knock ’em down, Amazi-Girl!
Those dudes should be called 9 to 5 cuz they are about to catch this work from Amazi-Girl (and Sal hopefully)
Well this was long coming.
Feel bad for those two mooks though, I’m not sure if they even know their friend’s a rapist.
Yeah that’s what I was thinking. I mean, Ryan should definitely get his teeth kicked in, but those two might not know that.
He has to the “hero” of the story he told them, and machismo doesn’t involve roofing the girl to have sex.
He’s supposed to win the victim over with his charm and machismo.
i dunno i have heard boys talk at some point in my life and im pretty sure you’re wrong
Maybe times have changed since I went to sea.
Oh um.
Of course he didn’t tell them the truth. There’s been a couple suggested versions posted already.
Still, I’d be interested to hear a version that fits both “That bongo that cut my face sent her” and not going to the police about it and could be swallowed by anyone who’s not a misogynist ass.
On the other hand, these people ARE DeSanto supporters, a demographic for which non-misogynist asses are in very short supply, if they exist at all.
“Shit, dude, once I fought her and crazy friend off, what was I gonna do? It’s not like the cops ever charge chicks for anything. It’s a broken system, man. I just had to let it go.”
I asked for something that could be swallowed by someone who’s not a misogynist ass. 🙂
Unfortunately for Amazi-girl, Dawson called Ryan “dude,” “bro,” and “man,” but didn’t use his name.
Turns out Ryan’s last name is Dudebroman.
Dudebro-Man would make a perfect nemesis for Amazi-Girl.
“Dew DeBroman was just an average guy — until he fell into a vat of liquid misandry and transformed into… DUDEBRO-MAN!”
Why so misandrous?
OH THE SHADE! THE BURN! THAT COMMENT! IT’S BEAUTIFUL!
i ship amber/amazigirl and sal
I missed the “and sal” part at first and thought “Now, which one writes that slashfic.”
These things always lead to Bone City.
Kick their asses, Amazi-Girl!
I suspect Ryan has told a few porkies to his mates about how he got that scar.
Kick their arses, AG!
Then run like fuck, cos they’ll call the cops.
Still laughing at that last panel.
If she can smack dudes half as hard as she can talk smack. . .
We’ve seen her do as much…
I feel like there is gonna be a massive cliffhanger.
what are they gonna do form frat boy voltron
Bonus strip unlocked!
You mean Slipshine unlocked!
I don’t know if that’s gonna work if they all form the butthole
this is legitimately the most effective burn ive ever seen, including the one in this strip.
What a way to celebrate the 6 year anniversary, Amazi-Girl beating three frat boys to a pulp.
You know for a fact that Sal isn’t going to stay out of this fight.
OH SHIT!
It’s on now.
Dance fight.
Mayhap to set the mood?
“Go ahead punk; make my day!”
Happy Anniversary, DoA, and here’s to many more.
Amber, remember to press Triangle to counter! Don’t break the freeflow!
Build up your Super Meter to perform Hyper Combos!
Then smack them with your health bar!
I wonder how many won’t get the ref, Sarge.
Hey, it’s not like I used the unused line from the first trailer. I just quoted a game that’s no longer available digitally.
Not quoted, referenced, my bad.
There are rumours of a re-release floating around lately.
I’d be down with it, even though I am a flipper handed mutant child when it comes to fighting games. If it included some new folks like Mega Man and Squirrel Girl I’d be there day one.
A re-release of the already re-released game!
Yeah, I’m still in. I have both versions already. My usual team is Deadpool, Dante and Zero, but that’d probably change with the addition of SG. (It nearly did for Hawkeye.)
I was actually going for a Batman: Arkham Series reference, but eh, I guess that works too.
OOO BETTA GET SOME ICE FO DAT
I’m guessing this plays out as the crowd turning against Amazi-Girl for beating up three Good Christian Men and Sal having to bail her out.
Look, out AG – it’s the Dudebroman Squad. They’re about to perform their special move “Pathetic Tag-Team.”
Also, happy 6th birthday DoA!
so that explains the humor of the comic, its no longer a toddler comic
Anyone notice those two goons are sroregoers from short packed Davids old comic
I
Aren’t they the ‘yes men’ that one guy kept surrounding himself with? Makes sense they’d be yes manning to someone else here too.
If I had to guess at least 15% of the commenters did. I needed it pointed out to me back when the BroTrio was introduced to Robin.
Man who knew political rallies were so action packed?
#DeSantoBringsTheFight?
Lolz sounds like an award winning campaign hashtag to me.
Could be #DeSantoBacksPunk?
I was thinking about how the political fallout of having a would-be date rapist on staff could harm DeSanto’s campaign. Then I remembered that she’s running as a Republican.
Everyone deserves a second chance?
Also “give me that phone”? Does scarface not know how the internet or cloud servers work? It doesn’t matter if you delete the pic off a phone AFTER it’s uploaded. Once it’s been uploaded it belongs to the internet.
Anger and rational thought do not often coincide.
It would be a long shot, but if AG was still logged in, some social media lets you delete your own uploads. (They don’t actually get deleted. They just stop being visible.)
Is Ryan thinking that clearly? Probably not.
So, how’re the rest of you reading “Dude, check out that guy’s scar”, because I have no idea what the tone intended there is.
Probably just noting that it is a pretty bad cut, now that attention’s been drawn towards him.
Oh hey, it’s Jeffy, Joey, and . . . Jeremy? Jake? Definitely something.
Serious or joke?
Did someone raid the pyromancers’ wildfire cache? Because the was a sick burn.
Happy 6th birthday
Alright. I’ll be the first one to say it.
That lip bite in the last panel looks… suggestive. I think she’s a little TOO excited about kicking his ass than she should be, here.
She did just break up with her boyfriend.
I may have only just started commenting recently, but I’ve actually been reading since early 2012. Happy Birthday DoA! 😛
I think I came in around the time that Billy first decided Sal might be AG.
Amazi-girl is SAVAGE XD
I don’t like how people are on the warpath on today’s comic. Reminds me a bit too strongly about the cheering for AG to beat up Sal..
Though I wonder if Sal sees AG as doing what she wishes she herself could do (stand up to bullies, etc) or as a grim reminder of who she used to be (violent & unstable) and down the same path.
I would bet the former, as it would make it all the more dramatic once she realizes just who put AG down that path.
I would be it’s the latter!* That’s what I meant.
With all these typing errors I am making, I’m just going to give up. Ya’ll gotta listen to what I mean, not what I write.
Possible victim of mob attack?
As far as we know, however, the other two are innocent of anything other than ignorance of Ryan’s crimes.
Ganging up on AG instead of trying to break up the fight makes them assholes, at the least. If they attack her, they deserve what they get.
Even “ganging up on AG” and even if they attack AG, the two of them will not not have done anything worse than what Malaya, Marcie & Carla did when AG went after Sal.
The main difference is that we, the readers, know that Ryan is a rapist.
Amazi-Girl also knows that Ryan is a rapist. She went made a point of confirming this.
…and Sal and her friends merely subdued AG and left. They didn’t actually curb stomp her like these dudes seem intent on doing.
AG is in her rights to defend herself.
Battery?
I suppose that isn’t an unreasonable concern.
My original reply to Flakky was probably testier than was called for, now that I look at it again. Sorry about that, Flakky. It was unfair of me.
No problem. It’s nice to know people cared to discuss it with me, though I wasn’t around to do so myself.
Happy birthday!
This feels like a very appropriate strip for six years old.
I very much doubt a six year old would understand the complexities of how much this guy deserves an ass whooping.
Oh wait.
You see that guy over there? He tried to hurt someone, in a very bad way. Amazi-Girl is going to try to make sure he doesn’t do so again.
*Obligatory comment that Ana must be dead because she didn’t post first*
sigh.
Thank you for helping to point out what an utter crapsack this presidential candidate is.
Turns out the Trump Foundation is all but a total fraud. Great investigation from WaPost’s @Fahrenthold https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/how-donald-trump-retooled-his-charity-to-spend-other-peoples-money/2016/09/10/da8cce64-75df-11e6-8149-b8d05321db62_story.html …
Not the right place for this, but Ok?
Well yeah the man is allergic to making money honestly.
Ryan, innocent people don’t say “You can’t prove anything”, they say stuff like “What the fuck are you talking about?” and “I never did anything like that!”
