Really? Kid means well, but honestly thinks “Show me Game of Thrones!” is an appropriate thing to do when visiting your sister for the first time in… quite a while.
Actually, I’m not really sure the Ruth said she wasn’t lesbian. I think she said she wasn’t sure — but her comment to Billie later on (that they’d found out that she ‘liked girls’,) suggests that she was toning it down for her brother.
Of course, I thought the moment when her brother told Billie to take care of Ruth was unbearably touching…
That too, but I think it was more of the fact that, as far as we know, Ruth could be either lesbian or bisexual (and the latter seems likely, seeing as she pretty much said Billie was her first girl crush, meaning that before she thought she was either straight or asexual).

There is a lot of to and fro between the wings even before everyone is getting dressed,, and Mike is the only one to bear witness to it. Mike knows all!

4) Joyce has announced her intention to “Get in on this Slipshine thing”, and wants to know where she can find one of those take-a-number machines that goes up to a billion.
5) My sister wants to know if you’d be interested in “experimenting” with her, but I told you you aren’t into science.
Safer would be for Billie to cut through the shared half bath.
Tricky to pull off successfully, though. Also, less dramatically pleasing, unless David is planning a bigger payoff later down the line.

Speaking of blushing, I now notice Walky doesn’t have those rosy cheeks that most of the others have. I thought for a moment that maybe it’s because of his dark skin, but then I saw Sarah in the banner, and she has rosy cheeks AND dark skin, so it can’t be that.
If he’s rooming with Mike, that makes this room rosy-cheek free. Hell, today’s page completely is rosy-cheek free.
I know that Amber/Amazi-Girl does not appear in this strip, but I just have to say it. I would love to see a retro 16-bit video game with Amazi-Girl. How much money do you need on Kickstarter? It’s not like you could find programming friends once you got the money.

Or, as you say, using kickstater money and the programming friends that money could buy you. I’ve read all of dumbing of age so far, but not the Walkyverse stuff. I don’t get it. What is the attraction of this character? He seems to me generally dumb and selfish and that’s it. Don’t like him at all. Is he supposed to be a “bad boy” (like a male version of his sister) or something? I checked the wikia but it didn’t really explain (there’s something about how he keeps having responsibility shoved onto him or something as he tries at every turn to dodge it… but that’s not endearing ini the least! ( and i think that’s from the Walkyverse, not here, though it would certainly apply to THIS comic))
Hmm. Alright, thanks for the clarification. “Rampaging immaturity” definitely does come through in DoA. But the other characters (e.g. obviously Dorothy) seem to like him for some reason and so do readers in the comments section here. I assume (at least for the readers) it’s because he’s the main character (by name) in the other universe(s), but based on what he’s like here i was having trouble imagining how that could be. (Did i mention that i don’t care for him? )
Sickly hung over pallor aside, Billie looks really cute in the fourth panel.
I really hope that the next two or ten strips focuses on Billie and Ruth, and that even if there is some sort of emotional blow-up on the part of one or both of them, it isn’t at the end of the scene, culminating in one of them storming off… I want this scene to end on a hopeful note! (Oh, who am I kidding? I want it to end with another Slipshine comic… But for now, I’ll take vaguely reconciliatory hopefulness…)
As for Mike… Who wants to bet he’s off to start a life of super villainy, so that he can experience more Amazi-tackles? And thus, an arch nemesis is born!

Sadly, I don’t support the Ruth/Billie ship because while there’s some interesting things going on there–it’s kind of depressing. I’d like to see Ruth with someone who isn’t a bundle of issues and the same for Billie. Maybe Ruth/Carla or Ruth/Malaya (oddly enough) because R/B have SIMILAR issues and they kind of feed each other’s worst side. In RL, I’d tell them to get the hell away from each other. The codependency isn’t the kind of thing which I think works.

Speaking of blushing, I now notice Walky doesn’t have those rosy cheeks that most of the others have. I thought for a moment that maybe it’s because of his dark skin, but then I saw Sarah in the banner, and she has rosy cheeks AND dark skin, so it can’t be that.
If he’s rooming with Mike, that makes this room rosy-cheek free. Hell, today’s page completely is rosy-cheek free.

I know that Amber/Amazi-Girl does not appear in this strip, but I just have to say it. I would love to see a retro 16-bit video game with Amazi-Girl. How much money do you need on Kickstarter? It’s not like you could find programming friends once you got the money.
Or you could learn to program in javascript yourself and do the whole thing using the graphic capabilities added to the new version of html. Or, as you say, using kickstater money and the programming friends that money could buy you. The sticking points are having a detailed vision of the way the game should work and intelectual property rights AKA permission from Willis.

Has nobody else noticed Ruth’s sad ‘Goody’ in panel 2? Poor thing, well, as poor as Ruth can be.
I’ve read all of dumbing of age so far, but not the Walkyverse stuff. I don’t get it. What is the attraction of this character? He seems to me generally dumb and selfish and that’s it. Don’t like him at all. Is he supposed to be a “bad boy” (like a male version of his sister) or something? I checked the wikia but it didn’t really explain (there’s something about how he keeps having responsibility shoved onto him or something as he tries at every turn to dodge it… but that’s not endearing ini the least! ( and i think that’s from the Walkyverse, not here, though it would certainly apply to THIS comic))
In the other universe, Walky is a lovable doofus. He’s very different. Really the main thing they have in common is rampaging immaturity.
Hmm. Alright, thanks for the clarification. “Rampaging immaturity” definitely does come through in DoA. But the other characters (e.g. obviously Dorothy) seem to like him for some reason and so do readers in the comments section here. I assume (at least for the readers) it’s because he’s the main character (by name) in the other universe(s), but based on what he’s like here i was having trouble imagining how that could be. (Did i mention that i don’t care for him?

Sickly hung over pallor aside, Billie looks really cute in the fourth panel.
I really hope that the next two or ten strips focuses on Billie and Ruth, and that even if there is some sort of emotional blow-up on the part of one or both of them, it isn’t at the end of the scene, culminating in one of them storming off… I want this scene to end on a hopeful note! (Oh, who am I kidding? I want it to end with another Slipshine comic… But for now, I’ll take vaguely reconciliatory hopefulness…)
As for Mike… Who wants to bet he’s off to start a life of super villainy, so that he can experience more Amazi-tackles? And thus, an arch nemesis is born!

But Mike as her super villain nemesis is just too good! Especially if there’s ever some strange multi-dimensional crossover. Imagine how mind blowing it would be to Amazi-girl to see that somewhere, she did reciprocate his advances?

Heh. Billie is back in yellow and blue, while Ruth is wearing black and green; I find it amusing that for this confrontation, they’re back in the same colour scheme as when they first met.
For that matter, they’re back in their Roomies! colour schemes.
Sadly, I don’t support the Ruth/Billie ship because while there’s some interesting things going on there–it’s kind of depressing. I’d like to see Ruth with someone who isn’t a bundle of issues and the same for Billie. Maybe Ruth/Carla or Ruth/Malaya (oddly enough) because R/B have SIMILAR issues and they kind of feed each other’s worst side. In RL, I’d tell them to get the hell away from each other. The codependency isn’t the kind of thing which I think works.
