Oh sweet God…my one friend is actually a HARDCORE JJBA fan, so I’ve been hearing about it nonstop and been shown most of the first arc. Now it’s crossed over into DOA comments and I don’t knw what to think.
He’s… not really a wrestler, though he acts like it. He’s actually a pretty skilled martial artist(though not nearly as skilled as any of the main characters. He’s just skilled by average people standards).
Oh that Mary hard to believe Joyce and her still hang out , well actually with Mary being pure ignorance and hate and Joyce being pure ignorance and love they balance each other out.
I’m surprised Mary doesn’t draw people doing things she detests.
Though honestly I would like to see more Mary, I actually really find her interesting, and if Willis can love Malaya, then we can definitely have more Mary in our lives
Woo, you got a head start! At least you weren’t one of the six freshmen standing in the hall after class going, “This professor is so shitty and old fashioned…if this wasn’t a required class, I’d drop it.” :p
It’s amazing…it’s almost like the old, classic methods got that way for a reason.
Of course you can break all the rules in art, but you need to know what they are and why they exist to do it well.
But shitty artists insist they don’t have to learn anything because “art ain’t got no rules, man”, and insist all their flaws are “artistic style”…it all ends up being an excuse not to improve.
(note: I’m using “artist” as a catch-all term for people who make art, including writers, cartoonists, painters, filmmakers, etc.)
Howdy from art school.
I’m just here to back up her claims that art school BEATS THAT SHIT OUT OF YOU. If you wanna draw animu, steel yourself, because everyone’s gonna shit all over your hopes and dreams.
Everything that is made before you turn twenty is part of the natural order of things. Everything that is made when you’re twenty to forty is new and exciting and maybe you can make money from it. Everything that’s made after you’re forty is an abomination and will destroy humanity.
My PS2 still works, and I can hack Gran Turismo 4 to put my cars in it so I can drive them even though they no longer exist. AFAIK the physics model in GT4 is even more realistic than previous editions of GT making it an even better sim for building cars. Why pay for new technology when what you have will do more than what you need?
They also have creepily pale 1st & 2nd century Jews, which I recently noticed when I went to my cousin’s wedding.
Plus the solid marble flooring, table and (seemingly) pillars meant that altar was probably worth, by several different estimations, $1,000,000. I couldn’t help but think Jesus would’ve wanted to flip that solid marble table, but wouldn’t be able to. I got curious and looked up on my phone how much money the Catholic church donates to charity, and it’s estimated at 2.7%.
I wanted to ask the priest who was there about both of these things, but decided that starting an argument at my cousin’s wedding probably wouldn’t be appreciated by the rest of the family.
I love Sarah giving in to Joyce this way. It’s definitely a sister thing. Like, “you’re freaking embarrassing the hell out of me, but you’re so happy….ugh.” It’s not going to hurt her and it makes Joyce happy, so she gives as much as she can.
That said, she has a legit standing with that psuedo-anime style. That shit is ugly.
Nah. I think that Sarah will be cool with it for a few days to set up her plans, then informs Joyce that the price of leaving the decorations up is to submit to vibrator training.
Personally, when I read “vibrator training” I didn’t get a pornographic mental image at all, but instead an image of a blindfolded Joyce, swinging the vibrator around like a lightsaber at a floating training drone.
Is it weird that Mary’s one positive trait of being an artist causes me to want her to actually grow as a person. On the other hand her potential character arc might be too similar to Joyce’s.
Similar but yet completely the opposite of each other, like two sides of the same coin or night and day…this catches my attention, now I want to see more of her but in a odd situation just to see what she can develop into.
A situation like maybe being forced to rely on someone she hates or falling in love with someone she thinks she shouldn’t, all to see her tortured with growing pains, Hmmm.
Joyce is simply naive. She’s been sheltered from any sort of life outside of a strict Christian upbringing. She’s a kind-hearted person who believes in loving your neighbor above all else. She’s a Christian in spirit, even though she blindly accepts what she’s been taught without questioning it.
Mary’s story is different. If I have to compare Mary to someone else, it would have to be Sarah. Both seem to intentionally push people away, but while Sarah uses her scholarship as an excuse, Mary uses her religion as an excuse. Both are coping mechanisms to keep them safe.
Mary’s likely coming from a place of pain and hurt. If you look at this comic, her expression isn’t one of complete anger. It’s probably around 50% anger, and 50% concern for Joyce.
What I theorize is that she had a big falling out with someone who is atheist, and projects that onto Dorothy. She thinks “all atheists are like that”, so to speak.
Mary only cares for the appearance of propriety. Cause she’s a uipocritical judgemental bongo. Joyce doesn’t actually care about the appearances so much because she’s a heartfelt believer. She’s like Jesus eating with sinners. Mary would kick them to the curb out of fear that they would make her look contaminated
It’s that “anime” is Americanized as some kind of style when in JAPAN that just means “animation” [of ANY origin], and what does that even mean since styles vary widely between any cartoons [and the big eye thing was ripped off from Disney anyway]??
Not “ripped off”, forced by ex-Disney artists sent to rebuild Japan’s entertainment industry. Then they ran with it and made it their own. Incidentally, do you know why anime as an art form uses any color in the spectrum (and a few that aren’t) as “natural” hair colors? It’s a reaction to the caucasian artists that were brought in after the war having so many colors of hair, unlike the Japanese who have two, black and a dark red.
could you source that? from my understanding, characters are given outlandish hair colors as a way of making them look distinctive, something which also happens with western animation
Uh, in americanese the word “anime” means “animation from japan (and maybe other asian places)”. It’s not actually a style description. That said, there are several of artistic conventions that never had much presence in american animation prior to them being imported from japanese animation, and the collection of those conventions results in a recognizable style. Despite the fact that not all japanese animation (aka “anime”) conforms to that style. This doesn’t stop it from being a style.
You think that’s messed up, look at what we’ve done with the word “ironic”.
As Sarah illustrates [hah!] above, “anime” is describing the big-eye look she and Joyce are portrayed in, otherwise she would be naming some specific series the style resembles, or generic “cartoony.”
This is not an isolated incident–loads of “How To Draw Manga”-taught artists describe their styles as anime, which further shows the evolution [or de-evolution] of language as people corrupt meanings for their own purposes. I mean, when was the last time “no” actually meant “no”? =(
Though I should point out that anyone aiming for a “style” is not going to develop properly as an artist. Learn to draw, then “style” will come from that.
okay so jen just barely beat me to the punch regarding anime style, but also keep in mind that most americans who speak americanese don’t really know anime beyond like naruto or sailor moon or hentai they claim they haven’t watched or whatever, of course they’re going to think all anime is the same (^▽^U) chibis with eyes with irises filled with undiscovered galaxies and ridiculously spiky hair :B
idk if this is a thing that happens, but regarding style imagine japanese people thinking that ~*western style*~ is all like the simpsons or family guy, with only thick fat dudes, disproportionately skinny ladies, ⊙_⊙ eyes, block dissonant colors with no shading….. We’re western we know there’s more styles than that, but that’s only because we’ve taken the time to see it
Aaah, Art Class, where they “claim” to promote free spirited-ness and expression but will shun you for choosing an art style or technique that does not conform to their “ideals”.
I take it that from all the comments that cartoon styles are not considered proper art in art classes then? I ask this as a person who has only ever done uptil Year 10 in school.
Still need to learn composition, and the rest of the “language” of pictorial art. As was said of Picasso and those who would copy him, there’s a world of difference between artists that refuse to draw, and those who can’t draw.
It took four years but my professors are becoming more lenient with those of us who are in the higher level classes. We’re at the point where they don’t care what we’re up to so long as what we do is done well.
HOWEVER, yeah, if you’re new you’re screwed. They will beat you with the figure drawing skeleton models until you stop that shit
Whenever I see Joyce talk, I always have a hard time imagining her having a normal voice. She has to talk through those massive dental plates that she has instead of teeth; at least I think they’re plates, the could be baleen.
Well, thing is at boob-level, you’re only gonna be able to see Dina or someone standing across the hall from the door, which effectively makes the peephole useless.
Unless you just want to check out the boobs waiting for you on the other side WOO WOO
That’s what I was thinking, too. I wonder how Joyce would have learned about fine arts programs’ typical (but not universal) disdain for anime style. From one of her brothers, maybe? Otherwise it sounds like a very un-Joyce-ish thing to say.
Well a lot of extreme Christian fanatics bash anime and call it satanic and all that (you know, like they react to everything that is not church). It’s entirely possible that Joyce is the same way and then this statement would make perfect sense from her
People illustrated it while playing up the ridiculous typos where they could. It’s enjoyable but the fanfic version is better [if you can suffer through it all]
Mary, Mary, where you goin’ to?
Mary, Mary, can I go too?
This one thing I will vow ya,
I’d rather die than to live without ya.
Mary, Mary, where you goin’ to?
Mary, Mary, tell me truly
What did I do to make you leave me.
Whatever it was I didn’t mean to,
You know I never would try and hurt ya.
Mary, Mary, where you goin’ to?
What more, Mary, can I do
To prove my love is truly yours?
I’ve done more now than a clear-thinkin’ man would do.
Mary, Mary, it’s not over.
Where you go, I will follow.
‘Til I win your love again
And walk beside you,
But until then.
Mary, Mary, where you goin’ to?
Mary, Mary, where you goin’ to?
Mary, where you goin’ to?
Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, where you goin’ to?
To be less silly, Joyce behavior now is exactly adhering to Sal’s advice on how to be a rebel – embrace your own style rather than emulating someone else’s.
I shudder a bit at people who take it too seriously but I do love watching some of the old stuff; either to make fun of with friends or genuinely enjoy a classic [though I still snark a little but I do that for everything].
of course Mary thinks everybody’s done something wrong, mainstream anime is full of ecchi, morally ambiguous androgynous (anti?)villains, and not a nearly favorable christian ideology to eastern ideology ratio for western tastes! She might not be a full-blown weeb but growing up on that stuff can shape your views differently, along with conflicting morals and all that.
That compounded with her being super mega christian definitely means she was the “kneeling and crying praying to the heavens at Golgotha” type of fanartist, doesn’t it
Actually, it IS the outside-facing part of the door. Joyce is just working on it with the door propped all the way open. [Imagine Dina standing behind it, facing the non-decorated side.]
So art school teachers here hate anime and manga as much of art school teachers in other places, for some reason I am not surprised.
And ultra judgey christians liking anime is not as strange as some people think… XD
me as a child: I can't believe my poor great-grandma had to live through both a global pandemic and a global economic collapse
me now: I can't believe my lucky great-grandma got to wait nine whole years between her global pandemic and global economic collapse
You might get blackballed from the industry, but the reporter who asks, “Excuse me Mr. President, but what the fuck are you talking about?” would go down in history books forever
Next up: free DOROTHY MAGNETs unlock at $30k! And there's a SURPRISE MAGNET tier drop coming soon, and there's no way you'd know who it is unless you've been paying attention to my Bluesky feed in the past few weeks, or just understand silhouettes.

I put up my remaining 30 Tricerahoodie Dina magnets as a book 14 add-on for funsies, but then they sold through in a morning. Welp! guess i'll make them unlimited and buy more after the kickstarter

maybe i'm on edge today because #9chickweedlane actually seemed pretty fine
like a dogs and cats, living together kind of moment
or wildlife sensing a coming thunderstorm
A little while ago, my parents' cat Bridget went missing. As the weeks dragged on, they became extremely worried. My dad devised a way to distract himself: he began to paint Bridget's adventures, imagining her travelling through time and popping up in some of art and music's most iconic scenes.
me, last year: okay, starting a kickstarter on Hugest Solar Eclipse Day of Your Entire Life may have been a bad idea, let's not start on a worse day next year
me, this year: uh oh
as with book 12, maggie has put together a video for the new kickstarter
in exactly one way and no other, it will be like 2023 again
soon: www.kickstarter.com/projects/dum...
Anime: The Scourge.
Particularly when Mary does it.
Would still buy prints of those drawings, though.
how ’bout of Joe’s nude modelling session
I wanna see a really Shounen Joe. -_-;;
being silly, but tempted to say http://s1052.photobucket.com/user/BurningLizard/media/JoJos%20Bizarre%20Adventure/JojoandDio.png.html XD

Oh sweet God…my one friend is actually a HARDCORE JJBA fan, so I’ve been hearing about it nonstop and been shown most of the first arc. Now it’s crossed over into DOA comments and I don’t knw what to think.
Tom: trying to escape JJBA is USELESS USELESS USELESS
MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA

Can Mary draw Sarah and the “vulvo-stimulator” in action – for the door??
Mary: Fundamentalist Otaku.
She only worships Bishie Jesus.
As opposed to what, Moe Satan?
Of course Moe Satan, who else? http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110226233713/dragonball/images/4/47/SatanBlueEyes.png
That Satan is scary, but his daughter sure is cute.
SHIT
Well played.
What is that from, the picture is familiar…
Dragonball Z. That’s professional wrestler Mister Satan, known in America as Hercule.
He’s… not really a wrestler, though he acts like it. He’s actually a pretty skilled martial artist(though not nearly as skilled as any of the main characters. He’s just skilled by average people standards).
Thank you! I freaking love Mr. Satan, even though he’s kind of a “comic relief” character. http://dragonball.wikia.com/wiki/Mr._Satan
Last time I checked, the Devil was a part-timer at McDonald’s
And James from pokemon opened up a KFC across the street
That feel of getting the anime references made in the comments section of anything.
The last time *I* checked, the Devil **owned** McDonalds!
Who else? Larry Satan, Curly Satan, Shemp Satan, Joe Besser Satan, Curly-Joe Satan – the list isn’t long, but it’s comprehensive.
Yes, he tempts you into sin with his dreaded puppydoy eyes.
And Tsundere Judas.
Always figured Judas more as the original Yandere.
Google image search this. I dare you.
I will never unsee that.
Welp, time to break out the hard liquor…

I wonder if she watches Saint Young Men…
Everyone should.

Not exactly bishie, but Joyce must never find out about this.
It looks very… Bluuuuuuuuuuuu… Bluuuuuuuuuuu… Blupppink.
Damn, Sarah beat me to the vomit joke.
… Huh. You know I kinda forgot that Mary was an artist in addition to, you know, a being of pure hate.
Oh that Mary hard to believe Joyce and her still hang out , well actually with Mary being pure ignorance and hate and Joyce being pure ignorance and love they balance each other out.
Mary feels like “deliberate disinformation” to Joyce’s “happenstance lack of knowledge” tho
On the other hand, http://www.dumbingofage.com/2013/comic/book-3/02-guess-whos-coming-to-galassos/proven/
At least she recycles.
Give ’em the ol’ Razzle Dazzle…
I’m surprised Mary doesn’t draw people doing things she detests.
Though honestly I would like to see more Mary, I actually really find her interesting, and if Willis can love Malaya, then we can definitely have more Mary in our lives
Even at her worst, Malaya was always nice to Leslie and got along with UC.
I don’t think we’ve ever met anyone who Mary likes.
Herself?
And not even Walkyverse Mary likes her!
Pretty sure Sarah would never make the face that Mary depicted for her ;D
Maybe with surgery.
It’d have to be a brain transplant.
Uhh… who’s Mary again?
The Worst.
THE Worst.
The WORST Worst.
The Best.
Naw just kidding
THE WORST.
The worst of the WORST.
So bad she’s almost, naahh, she is just the worst, irredeemably.
At least she’s not Faz
the WORst
The wurst?
the worsted
The bratwurst.
The wurst brat.
She always brought out the worst in me.
I had some bad sourkraut once, it brought out the wurst in me.
Joyce minus the things we like about Joyce.
That sounds both accurate and completely wrong.
Dark hair, wristbands, she’s the judgmental b-word who got annoyed with Joyce for inviting Dorothy and Sierra to church with them. http://www.dumbingofage.com/2012/comic/book-2/02-choosing-my-religion/avoid/
She also gave the evil eye to Riley. Which is of course, UNACCEPTABLE!
Black hair, hates everyone, rooms with Roz.
I think her hair’s brown but yeah.
At the very least, Sarah should replace her name with one that suits her style better.
Like Sala? and Joisu?
Or would it be more like “Sela?” for pronounciation?
the Japanese go with セーラ (seh-rah)
I meant her name on the door not her actual name, even though I can kinda understand how you might have thought I said that.
And now I’m wondering what Romulan anime would be like.
(Klingons obviously mainline Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill.)
I’m not certain but I bet that the Federation would ban it whatever it was.
Rip the door off the hinges and burn it quickly.
I go to art school…it beat it out of me in two days…it wasn’t gentle.
You made it a while! Most of the time it happens in the first hour of class. :p
I didn’t even make it to school. I went to summer studio my junior year of high school.
Woo, you got a head start! At least you weren’t one of the six freshmen standing in the hall after class going, “This professor is so shitty and old fashioned…if this wasn’t a required class, I’d drop it.” :p
Dude, I legit hate kids like that. Like…Learn something new for once! It won’t hurt ya. And if it does well, life’s all about dissapointment.

“until art school beats it out of her” – ha. Ain’t that the truth.
Howdy from art school.
I’m just here to back up her claims that art school BEATS THAT SHIT OUT OF YOU. If you wanna draw animu, steel yourself, because everyone’s gonna shit all over your hopes and dreams.
And by the time you complete your masters degree in art, you’ll be shitting all over the hopes and dreams of the freshmen!
Or maybe that was just me… .__.;
They just fear superior art styles.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahaahahahahaha
….
ha
hahahahahhaahhahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahaha
no.

Gotta love a Douglas Adams quote.
What’s the deal with that? Idle curiosity, art school is of no concern to an old hag.
Does Mary do commissions? I have some OCs that I need draw.
Clothed, of course.
Yeah because she probably thinks non-human-anatomy-practice nudes are sinful.
It does say in the hovertext her rates are surprisingly reasonable.
I’ll describe my OC with literally Every possible feature of the devil, and offer her a grand to sketch it.
“Found cool thing on deviantART. Discovered it was one artist’s “alternate universe” versions of another artist’s fanfic OCs. Died a little.”
Mary will do commissions, but as for being clothed, she only draws fully dressed after mid-afternoon.
…. As in, she only draws while being fully dressed after mid-afternoon, or the people she draws are only fully dressed after mid-afternoon?
There is no cure for an Anime infection. Save yourself, Sarah.
It could be worse. Mary could have drawn each of them as a “My Little Pony”.
Sarah, the proper term is CHIBI.
“Chihbis or CHybis as some people call them.”
(time for another game of GUESS THAT REFFERENCE)
Does Mary approve of the christian symbolism in Evangelion, or does it all just go over her head like me?
Whiney Shinji fought for our sins.
Jesus…Get on the Damn Cross.
I want Sarah and Joyce to each decorate their own name/half their own way. The juxtaposition would be delicious.
All Sarah needs is a piece of paper and a thick marker so she can write GO AWAY.
On the left: stickers and ponies and glitter.
On the right: just a whiteboard with like a billion dicks.
Which according to Jacob, Joyce will be sucking by the end of the year.
So the whiteboard can help her keep score. She can cross them off as she goes.
Sarah is nothing if not helpful.
An excellent point.
Mary’s going for an art degree? I guess (almost) every DoA character has a silver lining.
Mary? Drawing anime-style?
I wouldn’t expect that from her of all people, with the uber-Christian hipocrisy stuff, but okay, I’ll accept it.
Anime style’s easier than trying to copy religious works. Them shits have some DETAIL.
I blame Willis for most of these thoughts.
Martin Luther would have liked you. :3
Well, I can’t say much about that as he’s dead, but I’ll accept you liking me instead.
Excellent! <3
Not if she copies medieval religious works! Perspective? What’s that?
I love Sarah giving in to Joyce this way. It’s definitely a sister thing. Like, “you’re freaking embarrassing the hell out of me, but you’re so happy….ugh.” It’s not going to hurt her and it makes Joyce happy, so she gives as much as she can.
That said, she has a legit standing with that psuedo-anime style. That shit is ugly.
Nah. I think that Sarah will be cool with it for a few days to set up her plans, then informs Joyce that the price of leaving the decorations up is to submit to vibrator training.
I don’t think that’s Willis’s style of porn.
Personally, when I read “vibrator training” I didn’t get a pornographic mental image at all, but instead an image of a blindfolded Joyce, swinging the vibrator around like a lightsaber at a floating training drone.
A hovering fleshlight.
tbh though Mary’s drawings are kawaii as hell
Meh! They’re still Willis, just a different style of Willis…
So a comic book writer and some guy involved with short circuit 2? makes sense for them.
oops, wrong Willis comic
WRONG UNIVERSE HARD REBOOT
I think you might have the wrong comment section
anything is possible
especially when the tabs are right next to each other.
I’ve just read your comment under the other comic a few minutes ago.
When you use your
☆IMAGINATION☆
Is it weird that Mary’s one positive trait of being an artist causes me to want her to actually grow as a person. On the other hand her potential character arc might be too similar to Joyce’s.
Similar but yet completely the opposite of each other, like two sides of the same coin or night and day…this catches my attention, now I want to see more of her but in a odd situation just to see what she can develop into.
A situation like maybe being forced to rely on someone she hates or falling in love with someone she thinks she shouldn’t, all to see her tortured with growing pains, Hmmm.
Kinda makes me wonder what other hate-magnet characters will be fleshed out.
I wonder if it’s bad that I kind of don’t want Blaine to ever become a better person, since hating him is easy and comfortable. It… probably is bad.
I don’t see their growth as the same.
It’s probably around 50% anger, and 50% concern for Joyce.
http://www.dumbingofage.com/2012/comic/book-2/02-choosing-my-religion/avoid/
What I theorize is that she had a big falling out with someone who is atheist, and projects that onto Dorothy. She thinks “all atheists are like that”, so to speak.
Mary only cares for the appearance of propriety. Cause she’s a uipocritical judgemental bongo. Joyce doesn’t actually care about the appearances so much because she’s a heartfelt believer. She’s like Jesus eating with sinners. Mary would kick them to the curb out of fear that they would make her look contaminated
Gan. I hate Mary.
I’m worried about what those wristbands that Mary wears all the time are for.
Because I don’t want to have to feel sympathy for her.
*Shrugs*
A lot of anime is good, and a lot of anime is just plain weird. Just like anything else.
I actually enjoy anime, and I no longer give a fuck if anyone knows.
“Hmmm”, he said, as he filed that factoid away for future reference.
could you source that? from my understanding, characters are given outlandish hair colors as a way of making them look distinctive, something which also happens with western animation
Poor Egon Spengler.
We’re western we know there’s more styles than that, but that’s only because we’ve taken the time to see it
Sturgeon’s Law applies here, as it does everywhere.
Sturgeon’s revelation, commonly referred to as Sturgeon’s law, is an adage commonly cited as “ninety percent of everything is crap.”
Aaah, Art Class, where they “claim” to promote free spirited-ness and expression but will shun you for choosing an art style or technique that does not conform to their “ideals”.
Good times, good times.
I take it that from all the comments that cartoon styles are not considered proper art in art classes then? I ask this as a person who has only ever done uptil Year 10 in school.
Certainly in America they don’t want to teach you something they’re not specifically trained to do.
Anyway, How To Draw Manga books are everywhere, why would you need to go to art school for that
I wouldn’t have thought that you would need classes to do things like cubism or abstract either.
Still need to learn composition, and the rest of the “language” of pictorial art. As was said of Picasso and those who would copy him, there’s a world of difference between artists that refuse to draw, and those who can’t draw.
You need to be very good at something in order to be very bad at it intentionlly. Remember Victor Borge?
I’m thinking the difference between The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra and Manos: The Hands of Fate
Yup. There may not be any rules in art that you can’t break, but you should be doing it knowing what those rules are and why you’re breaking them.
*my point being that you need to prove that you understand the human form before you go and stylize it
Mary? No way O_o
I have a feeling Ruth will come by, see the door, and either…
-> a. remove the stars and glue them to Joyce
OR
-> b. take the door off its hinges, walk away with the door, and leave it an open frame
I would be fine with either outcome, 2nd would be funnier though
How about if Ruth glues the stars to a naked Joyce, could be “interesting”.
I think Joyce would snap, which might be interesting in it’s own way
HAHAHA! I love that “until the art school beats it out of her” thing. I work as an art model at a university and see this often!
Almost as sparkly as Sarah’s vibrator
Did…..did Joyce just exhibit -cynicism-? (snif) They grow up so fast.
Whenever I see Joyce talk, I always have a hard time imagining her having a normal voice. She has to talk through those massive dental plates that she has instead of teeth; at least I think they’re plates, the could be baleen.
“Poop” stopsign? Is that new?
It used to be on their bathroom door, not sure why it’s migrated into the hall.
Update: I looked closer at the first panel and the door is actually open into the room, so the poop sign is actually still on the bathroom door.
I just noticed their peephole is actually like boob-level =|
Better than mine was, a foot above my eye-level, so I had to drag a step-stool over to look through it. :/
Well, thing is at boob-level, you’re only gonna be able to see Dina or someone standing across the hall from the door, which effectively makes the peephole useless.
Unless you just want to check out the boobs waiting for you on the other side WOO WOO
Joyce & Sarah needs to be the new Joyce & Walky and it needs that door as its logo.
Yes.
And it needs to be drawn in Mary’s Animu style.
“…till art school beats it out of her”.
Surprisingly worldly statement from Joyce.
That’s what I was thinking, too. I wonder how Joyce would have learned about fine arts programs’ typical (but not universal) disdain for anime style. From one of her brothers, maybe? Otherwise it sounds like a very un-Joyce-ish thing to say.
Or maybe it’s something Mary said when she and Joyce interacted off-panel.
yeah, I’m pretty sure joyce is just indirectly quoting her
Well a lot of extreme Christian fanatics bash anime and call it satanic and all that (you know, like they react to everything that is not church). It’s entirely possible that Joyce is the same way and then this statement would make perfect sense from her
If she thought it was satanic, she would never have stood for it on her door.
Needs more penises.
Get that marker warmed up Sarah…you got work to do!
Oh no…
Mary’s going to be one of the people who draws fanart where her favorite characters accept Jesus and stuff, right?
If she does, I’m going to send her a link to “My Immortal” with a request for fanart for it. XD
I need to reread that comic.
OGODS it’s a comic now? O.O It was just a (horrible) fanfic when I read it back in the day. D:
People illustrated it while playing up the ridiculous typos where they could. It’s enjoyable but the fanfic version is better [if you can suffer through it all]
So, sort of like the machinima version of “Half-Life: Full Life Consequences”?
The time honored tradition of arts and crafts to keep oneself from jerking it…
She’s gonna bedazzle their entire room before the end of the semester.
Mary, why ya’ buggin’?
Joyce’s choice of color has nothing to to with getting back at Sarah for various Dong-related incidents. Nothing.
This is how a REBEL decorates her door.
Sal is obviously not enough of a rebel to wear pink
Sal’s such a poser. She doesn’t even chew on a pencil.
To be less silly, Joyce behavior now is exactly adhering to Sal’s advice on how to be a rebel – embrace your own style rather than emulating someone else’s.
Sal wore pink yesterday.
poop
Comedy gold!
People have been trying to beat the “anime” out of me for decades.
I wonder if it’ll ever happen.
Worked on me eventually! Sorta.
I shudder a bit at people who take it too seriously but I do love watching some of the old stuff; either to make fun of with friends or genuinely enjoy a classic [though I still snark a little but I do that for everything].
Oh, I didn’t mean watching anime…(I barely watch any). But my art style is definitely anime-influenced, something “real artists” sneer at.
Oh, man. So true.
of course Mary thinks everybody’s done something wrong, mainstream anime is full of ecchi, morally ambiguous androgynous (anti?)villains, and not a nearly favorable christian ideology to eastern ideology ratio for western tastes! She might not be a full-blown weeb but growing up on that stuff can shape your views differently, along with conflicting morals and all that.
That compounded with her being super mega christian definitely means she was the “kneeling and crying praying to the heavens at Golgotha” type of fanartist, doesn’t it
orrr maybe i’m just reading too much into it and she just learned to draw on a how to draw manga book nevermind
At least it’s on the inside of the door and not the outside
Actually, it IS the outside-facing part of the door. Joyce is just working on it with the door propped all the way open. [Imagine Dina standing behind it, facing the non-decorated side.]
Ahh
Sucks for Sarah, then!
That f*cking Mary is a piece of shit.
So art school teachers here hate anime and manga as much of art school teachers in other places, for some reason I am not surprised.
And ultra judgey christians liking anime is not as strange as some people think… XD
Yeah, we said that about a lot of people in animation classes.
