i love how not only did danny say “we broke up” and his dad immediately jumps to the conclusion that she dumped him, but was right about it. atm i can’t remember if that’s the right reason though
She dumped him because he wanted to support her rather than live a life of his own. He had also sort of “decided their future for her” in regard to their relationship.
Long ago we established that Amazi-Girl was Ultra-car. This was decided long before Ultracar even had a humanoid body, and Ultra-car’s new body only further confirms this.
Yeah well, with all due respect to my Joe Avatar, his friends being sick of him was a dick move on the part of his friends. Joe is great for comedic amusement in this continuity, but frankly he’s a self-absorbed horndog shithead to everyone around him. I do not take anything he says as reasonable or intelligent, and I hope Danny doesn’t either.
While I’m grousing about stuff, while Danny absolutely should have brought this up before now, Danny’s father is quickly volunteering to replace Ruth as the biggest bongo of this series. Of all the damn things to say to your son after he admits he just went through a painful breakup? Seriously, Danny, that’s just cause for a heartfelt “Go fuck yourself” if ever I heard one! Give it a try, you might feel better.
“Weeks ago” is not “just went through a painful breakup”. And Danny’s silence on the matter has now put the Wilcoxen in awkward territory with the Keeners. I can’t blame Randal for being as vexed with Danny as many of the rest of us are. After all, he’s been subjected to (Dumbiverse) Danny’s behavior for many years more than we have.
The break up was weeks ago, he’s already dating someone else and has barely even mentioned Dorothy since the break up. And quite frankly I’m still super glad they broke up, did you listen to what he said to her right before it happened? Joe’s kind of a dick sometimes but he’s had to deal with Danny for years now. They have nothing in common, Danny makes no effort in their relationship, Joe at least has tried, however misguioded the attempt was.
I disagree. While, yes, Joe can be known for thinking with his dick at times, he has shown that he can be better than that when the situation calls for it, as shown in his date with Joyce.
The very term “Nice guy” is so tainted that if you refer to any guy these days as a “Nice guy”, chances are, you will see some kind of negetive reaction on their face.
Friendzone technically isn’t bullshit. I was just making jokes about it because I am the “Nice Guy”, not because I’m trying to trade nice points for sexy times but because I’m just nice. I also have a crush of my own (but that’s all teenage drama and sympathy points are worthless when transferred over the web), but even so there is a small feeling of disappointment when you realize that a girl will never like you romantically, even if you didn’t or don’t like her.
…so, that means I’m not a friendzone veteran, I’m a friendzone hipster. Oh god…
I know that, but I was responding to AckAckAck’s unintentional implication that Mike would appear in front of Danny and his parents and say what thecanvashat just posted: “That is the perfect Gravatar for that comment.” Out of context, and offline, that would be rather confusing I’d think.
Yeah. This could have been SO much worse. Definitely better than when he didn’t have the spine to tell Joyce’s parents that they weren’t going out in Roomies!
I disagree. This was completely forced on him. No spine was involved, and it couldn’t be worse, because anything else would require Dorothy to go along with it. Even Danny wouldn’t expect that.
His best quality is his availability, but once he entered a relationship his availability disappeared until Dorothy broke up with him. Now he’s available again, only to become unavailable in the future, then available again, then unavailable, etc… It’s a vicious cycle.
So for those that have not been outside of the Dumbiverse, you’re saying that Randy is Danny’s younger brother right? I’m a bit confused if you were saying that the truth is that Bunk’s post is reversed or if you meant Bunk is right, they ARE reversed.
It will be interesting if we suddenly transported to the Dumbiverse universe and actually meet someone there. Having children and genre savvy we are we will check our baby’s hair….
It also aligns more directly with Danny’s Dumbiverse characteristics, which include creepy tunnel vision-style attachment to a single person, and, otherwise, a detachment from all people who actually care about him, even a little.
Maybe he’s not in communication with him. I mean it’s been a few weeks. Even if Dan sent a letter the one his brother sent back might not be there by now.
There might be more practical ways, but they might not necessarily be reliable. There were times when my husband was in Iraq that I didn’t here from him for 2 or 3 weeks at a time due to his missions or communications being out. A couple of weeks is really no big deal.
Yes, but our primary source of learning, especially when we are young, is from our parents. If our parents teach us that it’s okay to steal, odds are we’re going to steal. If our parents teach us that we should latch on to our S.O. because they are going places…
But a child also learn from other sources too. Also from the comic above it’s obvious that Randall already teached Danny about treating someone else right. He’s not teaching his son to treat his SO as a thing.
Relationship is build with mutual understanding between the couple. So Randall guess on why Dotty want to break up with Danny is pretty clear for him. Danny wanting his ego to dominate the relationship is unhealthy. He only look at one facet of his SO and not as a human being.
This is why his relationship with Amazi-Girl is not healthy. He’s not looking at AG as a woman but more like an idealized persona for him. The relationship will not end well.
Don’t forget that in yesterday’s comic, Randal said that following Dorothy to college was a smart move. Even before Dorothy dumped him, I think pretty much every reader was in agreement that it was anything but smart. Also, I don’t see how Randal taught Danny about treating someone else right in today’s comic? Maybe I’m missing something?
BAD FATHER. BAD RANDALL. YOU APOLOGIZE TO YOUR SON RIGHT NOW!
I might not like Danny that much, but seriously, I think I feel a beautiful hatred blooming in my heart for his parents.
Danny’s dad reaction show that he already try to make Danny more responsible before. He know that Danny is a grown up now and need to change soon before he go into workforce.
Asshole dads are much more worse than Randall. Heck, asshole dads won’t appear on parent day like that. Even if they appear they will took a swig from their hidden flask once in a while.
I was being facetious when I said I don’t have experience. Asshole dads don’t have to be an outright caricature of dickishness to accomplish what I’m talking about.
Two comics in a row he’s said something that completely implies he views his son as either worthless or not worth dating. That in turn implies that this is very common. How is anyone supposed to have confidence when every time they come home, a parent tells them that there’s something wrong/bad about them?
For instance, with one single comment, which he completely didn’t intend to do this with, my father made me think for all of my high school life and well into my 20s that anyone who told me they found me attractive were lying and had ulterior motives. Very nonchalant comment that did some lasting damage. Danny’s father is saying stuff almost exactly like what my dad said to me.
Freshmen don’t get to be RA’s. Ruth is an RA. Ruth has also made several other comments that should clue you in to the fact that she’s an upperclassman.
Also, her parents are dead, so it’s doubly unlikely someone would visit her for a parents’ day.
I’m still trying to figure out why Amber likes him. In fact, she likes him so much that she will date him despite the fact that he has rejected most of her, preferring to fixate on the one facet he actually is attracted to. It’s really quite mentally unhealthy on her part and superficial on his.
I’m going with, “Amber really wants to get wronged until she has a good scapegoat, and the only other guys she knows at college are a) gay, b) Mike, or c) B.O.B. Guy.”
Danny is only interested in Amazi-Girl, and I don’t think he even sees her as a real person. Dude needs to change hard and change fast if he ever wants to be happy with someone.
On the other hand, Danny has been oddly successful with the ladies despite himself (Sal, Joyce, Billie, possibly Ruth, Dorothy, and now Amber/Amazi-Girl), so maybe girls are just into his whole pathetic act.
On the hypothetical third hand, Dorothy is the only one of those who seems to be without issues, and she dumped him.
He’s not fixating on the “one facet he finds attractive”.
Somehow, he thinks Amazi-girl is a different girl. She’s the one he was attracted to first, and he’s not willing to just dump her because he started developing attraction for another girl as well. That Amber hasn’t disabused him of the notion is as much her fault as his for being stupid enough to have it in the first place.
Way to stomp on your kid MR. W., almost makes me feel sorry for Danny.
I think Mrs. Wilcox hair style is a lot like Ruth’s. Bangs are different, and Ruth’s hair lays on her shoulders which Mrs. W’s does not. But still very similar at a glance.
Also I realize he’s like Marten Reed from Questionable Content comic but the differences are Marten are likeable guy and he’s actually pretty considerate about others feeling. Danny OTOH…..
I feel like I’m the only reader who actually sympathizes with Danny. Or maybe it’s just the outspoken minority. Regardless, I like Danny and hope things get better for him.
I sympathize with the guy too. He’s just a kid, not a bad guy, and has actually given pretty good reasons for why he’s not giving much thought to what’s under the mask. I’d even posit that one of the reasons he’s not connecting Amber to Amazi-girl is because he’s deliberately trying not to pay too much attention to Amber or get to know her that well, since that would be cheating on Amazi-girl.
Yes, he waxed eloquent in his annoyance with Dorothy that one time and managed to say just the wrong thing, so that she’d finally dump him. But since she hadn’t dumped him months previously, that’s apparently not normal for him. One presumes that he was extra-clingly since he’d just found himself without his support network, with her and Horndog the only people he knew in the whole area. And, of course, he needed to get dumped right then to kick off the plots Willis wanted to tell.
Danny’s not the funniest or zaniest or lesbianist member of the cast, true, and he’s plausibly awkward, but give him points for having being in the most stable and well-adjusted of the five relationships in the comic. I like him and want to see where he goes.
Been a while since you were an undersocialized adolescent male, hasn’t it? Or, well, anyone unmarried and of marriageable age?
How do I put this. Boys and girls hanging out is what is called “dating”. Particularly when it’s just the two of you, or when you’re obviously paired up. This is escalated when you’re a late teen or in your early twenties; you (and the girl!) are expected to be mate-hunting. Now, it is a bad idea to assume that girls who associate with you are interested in you, but it’s also a bad idea to assume that they are not – and Amber is acting explicitly like she’s romantically interested in him. And she made it clear on their meeting that she was wishing for a non-gay man. Danny would have to be a moron to think that associating socially with Amber would be automatically at the “just friends” level.
So yeah. Hanging out with Amber the way he has been has been getting very close to the line of dating her, if not crossing it. He’s probably really hoping Amazi-girl doesn’t find out – she would be well justified in chewing him out for two-timing. (Or, being her, beating the crap out of him.)
‘Been a while since you were an undersocialized adolescent male, hasn’t it?’ – You have no idea how funny that comment is, it just pretty much just summarized me in three words.
I can’t talk for people outside of my own social group – But if that’s how dating is meant to work (and how ridiculously insecure women are meant to be), then I’m glad I have nothing to do with your bat-shit crazy social norms.
I mean seriously, Danny has made it clear to Amber that he’s not interested in ‘her’ as he’s dating Amazi-Girl. This is no where near the ‘line of dating her’. Having friends that are girls while you have a girlfriend is fine, if your girlfriend can’t handle this, then she has major security issues.
Heh. A classic (AKA “obvious”) comic-strip storyline, with the potential for weeks of contrived awkward misunderstandings…. spiked in two panels. Nice.
So… I actually like Danny. He’s awkward and adorable, and I’m still holding out hope that he sees Amazi-girl for who she really is, and at least gives Amber a shot. /two cents
Seriously though, how is it any of his parents’ business who he’s dating? If they haven’t actually asked him before now, he hasn’t lied to them, and it’s only been three weeks.
Honestly, I’d be more pissed at the parents for trying to invite the other parents without asking Danny first. That is…rude as all gotdamn hell, even if Danny and Dorothy were still dating.
I am bewildered at the level of hate Danny is getting for something where, at best, he seems like he should have reason to be angry.
Oh, and color me shocked that Danny would be hesitant to tell his parents that Dorothy dumped him if this is their response: not support or even neutrality, but “what a pathetic fucker you are.”
it’s uncomfortable how quickly everyone jumps on danny whenever he pops up in the strip. i’ve been following this strip since day one, and that’s all i see; he must be the most disliked character and it’s silly. i fail to see how he deserves all of this hate, when he makes mistakes that anyone has made in these threads.
what makes these characters good is that they make mistakes. even if it’s more often for the sake of drama/plot, at least they aren’t beacons of perfection. i dislike dorothy and joyce, but they are good characters. so it’s ludicrous that danny has this much criticism when other characters have made comparable volume of mistakes he has, if not more. all we see is danny’s faults.. which is kind of silly because in my opinion other characters could be shown more making mistakes or shaping out their character. lately it’s been a joyce/dorothy/walky/billie/then danny cycle. maybe bring in more characters.. just my opinion. but anyway.
chill. out. everyone. dislike someone within some logic or reason.
FINALLY! Someone speaking some god damn sense! The real truth of the matter is that Danny is, ultimately, trying to be a nice guy, but has unrealistic expectations regarding relationships, a habit for putting his foot in his mouth (and quite often right down his large intestine) but other then that, really hasn’t done anything objectable at all.
He’s generally considerate, if oblivious, and yeah, sometimes he screws up.
But Fandom just love to hate on the straight man, particularly if he’s not absolutely perfect but is TRYING to be a decent guy.
You probably won’t see this, but I’m pretty sure a lot of the hate Danny gets stems from the kind of person he was in the Walkyverse + inside joke. Even though this is a reboot, it’s difficult for people to let go their opinions of characters they’ve been familiar with for years.
I’ve read this strip several times, but this is the first time I’ve read the alt-text. I’d just assumed that Danny’s brother was still younger but had gone straight into the military as soon as he could. But I guess switching their birth other makes more sense.
Whew. That’s what I’d assumed because that’s exactly what happened in my family. I’m enough like Danny as is. Shoot, I think I even look like him (as much as a living 3d person can look like a 2d drawing drawn without them in mind in a style that doesn’t give detailed facial features. Have blue eyes though.)
Dude, Dannys dad!
He is so angry.
I think he’s an outlet for Willis’ frustration with Danny.
He’s an outlet for all our frustration with Danny.
Yeah i know. He is already one of my favourite characters.
i love how not only did danny say “we broke up” and his dad immediately jumps to the conclusion that she dumped him, but was right about it. atm i can’t remember if that’s the right reason though
She dumped him because he wanted to support her rather than live a life of his own. He had also sort of “decided their future for her” in regard to their relationship.
I think it was lack of a proper male role model that left Danny this way, Pops.
That awkwardness got him Amazigirl though.
In a manner of speaking.
The question is how long Amazi-Girl can keep the charade up until she need to reveal her true identity? I mean what if she turn out to be Billie?
But Amazi-Girl is Galasso, he looks nothing like Billie.
Nice QC Avatar.
Long ago we established that Amazi-Girl was Ultra-car. This was decided long before Ultracar even had a humanoid body, and Ultra-car’s new body only further confirms this.
Is there even an Ultra Car in this setting? Lurking somewhere beneath the mechanical engineering building, plotting pie-based world domination?
Joe’s parents will show up in a red 2008 Toyota Yaris Liftback. They’ve promised to give it to him next year, when they get their next car.
No, his awkwardness is why he got frienddumped, not regular dumped.
As a veteran, I can say with great confidence that there is a direct link between awkwardness and friendzoning. T_T
An Afghanistan veteran, or a friendzone veteran?
Dude’s not even friendzoned, even his friends are getting sick of him.
He doesn’t even get to be in the zone.
“Don’t let me into my zone, don’t let me into my zone.”
I consider his “man up” comment to Walky about shoes was reasonable. He was a little bit of a prick about it, but Walky was acting like…well, Walky.
I disagree. While, yes, Joe can be known for thinking with his dick at times, he has shown that he can be better than that when the situation calls for it, as shown in his date with Joyce.
Name me a single person Joe has wronged. Way to disrespect your avatar. Danny’s just being a little putz, which is common for a freshman.
He WAS kind of a jerk to Billie at one point. (“‘Scuse me, but I think there’s a cheerleader who wants to sleep with me.”)
I think friendzoning is the ultimate result of awkwardness?
It’s one of the leading factors, along with not being a dick and listening to what they have to say.
Uh oh, Neospector, you’re getting into Nice Guy territory. Please read this, it will help you with ladies in future: http://jezebel.com/5838994/a-field-guide-to-nice-guys
Thank you. “Nice guy” and “Friend zoning” are bullshit.
Oh god…
“I knew you’d fuck it up, son”
“You fucked this up just like you fuck up everything else.”
“Not literally, though. You don’t DESERVE that.”
Simpler words:
“Son, I’m disappoint.”
“Believe in the me that thinks you suck”
“Your awkwardnes is the awkwardness that will kinda scratch the heavens.”
Go beyond the impossible and kick usefulness to the curb!
A real man never gets dumped, even if his girlfirend leaves him!
Ron Swanson?
At least he lives up to his parents expectations?
That is the perfect Gravatar for that comment.
I wish he actually appeared in front of Danny, saying that and then leave.
Danny and his parents stare confusedly at Mike’s retreating back.
“Gravatar?”
The specific name for our avatars that follow us around on sites like this because of email address.
I know that, but I was responding to AckAckAck’s unintentional implication that Mike would appear in front of Danny and his parents and say what thecanvashat just posted: “That is the perfect Gravatar for that comment.” Out of context, and offline, that would be rather confusing I’d think.
Well, good to see Danny clearing that up. He’s not nearly as spineless as he’s usually thought.
Yeah. This could have been SO much worse. Definitely better than when he didn’t have the spine to tell Joyce’s parents that they weren’t going out in Roomies!
Glad to see he just ripped off the bandaid.
And just kinda held the bandaid, realizing he was nowhere near a thrash can.
I disagree. This was completely forced on him. No spine was involved, and it couldn’t be worse, because anything else would require Dorothy to go along with it. Even Danny wouldn’t expect that.
And yet that’s the standard comedy plot in this sort of story. Give credit where it’s due.
So, where is the alternate universe where he is Mike’s dad?
OMG they even have the same hair!
Now now this can create a speculation about who’s Mike’s real father….
Joyce’s dad has Mike’s hair too, last I checked, anyway.
Mike’s mom has got some ‘splainin to do..
There’s lots of reasons to dump Danny. His awkwardness is pretty low on that list.
The top item on the list is obviously the fact that he owns multiple pairs of shoes.
His best quality is his availability, but once he entered a relationship his availability disappeared until Dorothy broke up with him. Now he’s available again, only to become unavailable in the future, then available again, then unavailable, etc… It’s a vicious cycle.
He’s always around. EVEN WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT IT.
Or have no desire for it.
Which is why we have never seen Danny in the bathroom.
I like “Sitcom” Danny in the last panel.
We’ll be back with more “Thaaaaat’s Danny!” after these words from Nachitos!
How does this show keep getting more seasons? The main character is so unlikable!
The supporting cast, mainly.
Ther same way Dawson’s Creek managed it, love triangles and awesome secondary characters.
Most importantly, Lesbians.
Danny signed a long-term contract with the producer.
Wait, Danny’s a younger brother now? Guess that explains a bit.
Danny may havea younger brother also named Randy.
Danny was based kinda on Willis at the start and since Mr. Willis had a brother overseas, so did Danny. I think.
Danny and Randy have switched birth order in the Dumbiverse.
So for those that have not been outside of the Dumbiverse, you’re saying that Randy is Danny’s younger brother right? I’m a bit confused if you were saying that the truth is that Bunk’s post is reversed or if you meant Bunk is right, they ARE reversed.
Did you read the alt-text?
“in the old continuity randy was danny’s younger brother but now he’s his older brother, so there”
Alrighty then… Sorry ’bout that and thank you, showler!
Well seeng Danny’s dad explains a lot.
I’m just working under the theory that that hair somehow reveals a person’s inner jerkery.
Jerkery is directly negatively correlated with the effects of gravity on ones hair, although, it is usually too nuanced to notice.
If you see a guy who’s hair is sticking straight up they’re actually a HUGE dick.
ATTENTION DUELLISTS: My hair gives me super strength. It also makes me a giant dick. Which is what it looks like by coincidence.
This is true.
It will be interesting if we suddenly transported to the Dumbiverse universe and actually meet someone there. Having children and genre savvy we are we will check our baby’s hair….
So awkward that the background itself shifted into the phantom zone.
The background is like “Someone pulled the drama tag? Aint got time for that!”
That background didn’t grab it’s shoes or nothin’.
Wait, according to yesterdays although text, shouldn’t today’s title be Wilcoxen?
So Danny did not check with his brother for weeks while he was in college. Add this to his douche list.
Maybe he did, and was just trying to change the topic hastily?
True, that may also be. But prefer my version. It lets me dislike Danny more.
I think there are more practical methods to communicating to family members stationed aborad.
Somewhere, across the ocean, a soldier is thinking “Jeez, Danny, why won’t you reply to my semaphore signals?”
Weird, Randy hasn’t replied to my telegramms.
Danny: “I hope my smoke signal is working.”
“I wonder if Randy got my message in a bottle yet…”
“Okay, this carrier pigeon will work for sure!”
“Marathon! Go now, quickly! Tell my family that Dorothy and I broke up!”
There might be more practical ways, but they might not necessarily be reliable. There were times when my husband was in Iraq that I didn’t here from him for 2 or 3 weeks at a time due to his missions or communications being out. A couple of weeks is really no big deal.
You guys know that just because we in the states have plenty of ways to communicate doesn’t mean that troops overseas have the same options, right?
He’s only what you’ve made him, Randal.
Children are free willed individuals too. It’s like saying a thief son will be a thief too.
What if you’re a pool keeper’s son?
……….
*blink*
*blink blink*
I….. I think I miss a joke here……
Yes, but our primary source of learning, especially when we are young, is from our parents. If our parents teach us that it’s okay to steal, odds are we’re going to steal. If our parents teach us that we should latch on to our S.O. because they are going places…

I think he done that to support Danny whatever his decision is. But when he found out the truth he finally able to express his true feeling.
Obviously, because it’s important that the facts be modified to support your position, regardless.
Was looking back at the early strips because of the reasons, and noticed… Haruka and Ryou haven’t always been tagged, have they?
I think we’ll be seeing Dina’s parents soon…
Huh. I always assumed her parents were Saurornithoides mongoliensis, and she was upset that she was born human.
I know I’m not really a long time reader, but I read the old Walkyverse universe and I don’t remember someone actually mention Dina’s parents names.
To the best of my knowledge, no one ever has before.
Blasphemy. Dina was raised by chickens who would not shut up about their glorious evolutionary history.
Okay, he deserves this more than last strip.
BAD FATHER. BAD RANDALL. YOU APOLOGIZE TO YOUR SON RIGHT NOW!
I might not like Danny that much, but seriously, I think I feel a beautiful hatred blooming in my heart for his parents.
Hey, if YOU had to deal with Danny for twenty years you’d get sick of the stupid too.
Danny’s dad reaction show that he already try to make Danny more responsible before. He know that Danny is a grown up now and need to change soon before he go into workforce.
Or he could be an asshole father who constantly says shit like this and totally undermines any existing confidence Danny had?
Not like I have experience with that, or anything.
Why wasn’t “Ruth” one of the options in the poll? Come on… you know you wanna do a strip of her cousin visiting or her drinking alone or something.
FRESHMAN.
FAMILY
DAY
Freshman being the key word.
Like…3rd time I’ve seen this question asked.
What? I don’t get it. Explain to me more.
I don’t care… still wanna see Ruth’s family
Ruth is not a freshman(freshwoman?). Freshmen are students in their first year in school. Ruth is already there for a couple of years.
Freshmen don’t get to be RA’s. Ruth is an RA. Ruth has also made several other comments that should clue you in to the fact that she’s an upperclassman.
Also, her parents are dead, so it’s doubly unlikely someone would visit her for a parents’ day.
Cheezus if my Dad was like Mr. Wilcock I’d probably have problems too
Fake Edit: I meant Wilcox but I like it the way I misspelt it.
I hereby dub Danny’s father “Randal Wilcock”.
I second this.
I won’t be satisfied until every character hates Danny.
I’m still trying to figure out why Amber likes him. In fact, she likes him so much that she will date him despite the fact that he has rejected most of her, preferring to fixate on the one facet he actually is attracted to. It’s really quite mentally unhealthy on her part and superficial on his.
Danny is actually attracted to Amber “as a whole”, but he thinks it’s because she reminds him of Dorothy.
I’m going with, “Amber really wants to get wronged until she has a good scapegoat, and the only other guys she knows at college are a) gay, b) Mike, or c) B.O.B. Guy.”
(And this universe’s Amber is not yet evil enough to be Mike’s hate-bride.)
Amber still hanging on a string of hope. This is like what happened when she look up on Ethan…
Yet. We’ll see what happens when Danny freaks out at her and screws it up.
I appear to have lost my train of thought.
Why? It’s not like Danny’s evil. At his best/worst, he’s pathetic. That should stir apathy or pity instead of hate.
I love you for not turning this into a Three’s Company Plot.
AW GAWD I LOL’D AT THIS STRIP A TAD BIT TOO MUCH!
Even his parents think he’s need some fixing. Dammit Danny you need to get your act together.
Also I realize he’s like Marten Reed from Questionable Content comic but the differences are Marten are likeable guy and he’s actually pretty considerate about others feeling. Danny OTOH…..
Remember, Marten has been out of college for a while now. He has got at least 6 or 7 years on Danny. Dan’os got plenty of growin up to do yet.
Yep, it will end with either Danny turn into Marten #2 or he will never learn from his mistakes.
Marten is…remarkably self-absorbed, though. He’s just so passive about everything that he doesn’t really make problems for anyone.
Initiate Awkward Zone!
Now tell them how you are dating a superheroine.
Pretty sure she dumped him because desperatly clinging to high school sweethearts is really less romantic than it is pathetic.
I feel like I’m the only reader who actually sympathizes with Danny. Or maybe it’s just the outspoken minority. Regardless, I like Danny and hope things get better for him.
Nope, I’m pretty sure you’re the only one. 😉
You’re not the only one. Danny’s one of my favorites, actually.
“You’re a cool person and we share a lot of interests, BUT I CAN’T GET TO KNOW TO YOU BECAUSE YOU’RE A GIRL AND I HAVE A GIRLFRIEND!!!”
Yeah, I’m pretty sure getting to know someone of the opposite sex isn’t cheating.
Also: Danny ‘IS’ a moron.
It is kinda creepy how much people hate on him.
Blunt and to the point. Randal Wilcox, everybody!
I think I see why Danny’s brother went all the way to Afghanistan.
The schools are great? I personally love the neighbors.
Heh. A classic (AKA “obvious”) comic-strip storyline, with the potential for weeks of contrived awkward misunderstandings…. spiked in two panels. Nice.
son i new you would fuck it up i dissapointed
Oh, and color me shocked that Danny would be hesitant to tell his parents that Dorothy dumped him if this is their response: not support or even neutrality, but “what a pathetic fucker you are.”
i don’t like his parents any more….
it’s uncomfortable how quickly everyone jumps on danny whenever he pops up in the strip. i’ve been following this strip since day one, and that’s all i see; he must be the most disliked character and it’s silly. i fail to see how he deserves all of this hate, when he makes mistakes that anyone has made in these threads.
what makes these characters good is that they make mistakes. even if it’s more often for the sake of drama/plot, at least they aren’t beacons of perfection. i dislike dorothy and joyce, but they are good characters. so it’s ludicrous that danny has this much criticism when other characters have made comparable volume of mistakes he has, if not more. all we see is danny’s faults.. which is kind of silly because in my opinion other characters could be shown more making mistakes or shaping out their character. lately it’s been a joyce/dorothy/walky/billie/then danny cycle. maybe bring in more characters.. just my opinion. but anyway.
chill. out. everyone. dislike someone within some logic or reason.
Where’s the fun in that? 😉
Wow those are some supportive parrents
I’ve read this strip several times, but this is the first time I’ve read the alt-text. I’d just assumed that Danny’s brother was still younger but had gone straight into the military as soon as he could. But I guess switching their birth other makes more sense.
Whew. That’s what I’d assumed because that’s exactly what happened in my family. I’m enough like Danny as is. Shoot, I think I even look like him (as much as a living 3d person can look like a 2d drawing drawn without them in mind in a style that doesn’t give detailed facial features. Have blue eyes though.)
