In my college there was a girl who’d sweep into her friends rooms and just get them out, asking if one looked bigger than the other or different (which shows how often this happened). She’d do this with no mind for any visitors her friends had and while boyfriends often found themselves pillow cased to blind them temporarily, she only really got backlash when she did it in front of someone’s dad. Billie is so that girl, albeit with more kind who else is around when she does it.
(Unlike the Twatter feed, which was broken for me because the platform decided to make itself completely useless unless you were logged into your own account.)
I loved to see this. But, in another way, it could be very traumatic.
In real life, Judith Butler has come to São Paulo some years ago. The protests AGAINST her were atrocious, violent…
And most worrisome is that Mary is turning herself an activist.
I mean, if she’s actually not going to tell Joyce out of ‘she doesn’t read my texts so she doesn’t deserve to know’ then yeah, she’s not going to want Joyce’s company either.
It’s impossible for Jocelyne to know if Joyce reads her texts or not, only that she never answers. This is one reason it’s important to have important conversations with her face to face.
That’s not what she said. She specifically said she wasn’t going to do this over the phone, which would include texts and then mentioned Joyce never seems to read those anyways.
Likeliest answer is trans rights in the face of increasing criminalization of existing as a transgender person. But like… Take your pick of the American right-wing’s bullshit, whether they specifically target Jocelyne or not? Gay rights? Women’s bodily autonomy? Immigration? Trump generally? Israel? Russia? Healthcare? Defund the police? Tax and/or eat the rich?
Jocelyne’s first and most immediate answer to Becky not having her necessary papers was “okay, so we’re doing a B&E, ASAP.” It probably doesn’t have to be a cause related to her, for her to care about it; for narrative purposes though, it’s probably about trans rights.
Folks, help me out here: so Jocelyne is here to participate in sit-in protests, right? Why does her phone need to be off for that, and why does she need to be so sly about it (do we know what these protests are about)?
You turn your phone off at protests so the cops can’t track you. Optimally, you don’t bring the damn thing in the first place since you won’t need it and if they decide to get spicy you *will* not get it back and they’ll do their damnedest to crack it open like a clam and arrest everyone you vaguely know.
This applies whether or not you yourself plan on doing anything strictly illegal, because they are cops, and they will happily create illegal things as an excuse to make you stop bothering rich people.
If you think there’s a significant chance of a protest being escalated it’s a common safety tactic.
(Also, if in the US, remember not to have your phone set to facial, retinal, or thumbprint unlock. They need a warrant to get your passcode but *not* to use your body against you – as fucked up as that is)
USA cops have certain tactics they really want to use against large protests. Including tracking you by your phone, or taking your phone and reading all its files, or arresting you for a couple days for no damn reason at all and releasing you later (without your phone and other stuff), using a variety of physical intimidation tactics against you, or all of these.
Suggest reading Cory Doctorow’s Little brother series on government and corporate surveillance. And watch Rowan Farrow’s documentary Surveilled. You’ll want to burn your phone.
Turn it off and leave it at home. Think of a smartphone as a tracking device Batman might use to find criminals, but Donald Trump’s administration is Batman and you’re the criminal.
If you need to, get a burner phone with nothing on it and memorize any numbers you might need. Sometimes people might want to be able to plan to get picked up, but ideally find a way to do it without have your usual phone with you.
My guess is that the sit-in is tied to trans rights and so it would have been hard to bring up while also not coming out… so it wasn’t an “over the phone” conversation.
I also think there’s a possibility of being photographed at the protest and then being recognized by people who know you– that may have been what Jocelyn meant by “before you hear it from Dad.” So I guess this may tie to a wider coming out for her, which may be something she also wants to inform Joyce of.
Yeah, except that the way it’s said implies she’s still not planning to tell Joyce about the protest.
I still think Hank probably already knows. And that was likely the trigger for her to come out to Joyce and maybe even for going to the protest. At least if she thinks there’s any chance of being id’d because of it.
I think someone called Joyce instantly recognizing Jennifer’s cleavage, and I’m kinda disappointed they are not here bragging about it so I could congratulate them.
Exactly what I’ve been thinking this whole storyline. Like I get accidentally texting someone but like how long can you go on one chain without even looking at the actual chat window?
I’d abuse the hell out of an edit button. If someone went off the rails over some innocent remark of mine, I’d be changing that remark to something completely unrelated, like a recipe for marmalade.
I can see Becky wanting to go to the protest (“yay my first protest!” probably). And of course Dina going with her. I imagine Dina would be the safest person at the protest (’cause invisibility). But Becky stands out and might be targeted. And we KNOW at least one corrupt murdering cop out there knows who she is.
Why did the unrequited love of my life send me a photo of the sexiest breasts I know? DoA book 15
(Clearly using the character’s names in the title could only be confusing and offputting to any potential new readers, so we’ll have to work around that.)
Something just occurred to me.
Dorothy has always (beyond the last week or so) wanted to be president.
Why wasn’t she in some of the more passive protest groups?
Well, the size difference and different skin tones are probably a clue. She might also recollect how Jennifer is dressed if they crossed paths earlier off-scene.
it would be funny if they released it but it was just a cinema painted on the side of a cliff

Today in #9ChickweedLane I learned that I have to weigh which is worse: the cartoonist already forgetting what this guy looks like one daily strip later, or that, yes, he's actually meant to be an old man, not a victim to an older cartoonist forgetting what young people look like
Like any average American, I’m for universal basic income and abolishing the police. I can’t get on board with these ultra-leftists calling for the universal hive mind, though!

Dotty send that for reals bruh?!?!?!
IM DEAD AAAAA XD
I’m guessing Jennifer herself hit Send after taking the pic.
It seems like it: https://www.dumbingofage.com/2024/comic/book-15/02-the-one-where-jocelyne-returns/pathetic/
We never see dorothy send it, and she probably wouldn’t.
I just like that Joyce recognises them.
she thought she was sending it to Ruth
OBVS
She wanted you to feel safe and warm forever.
*Dorothy dies by a sudden, but inexplicable, envy*
How does joyce know what they look like
Because she could curl up in there and feel safe and warm forever.
She wants to run away from them and be cold and in danger.
Because they have never been concealed under a sweatervest so all breasts are known to Joyce subconsciously
Hahahahahahaha
I literally guessed that she would know it was Jennifer’s rack the when she sent it.
I honestly wish more people were like that. It’s ridiculous how badly we make anatomy taboo. There’s nothing wrong with seeing boobs.
I can’t believe she actually sent billie’s and not her own
She didn’t. Jennifer took her phone and did it.
Yep, plus when she tried to send hers, it failed, probably a service deadzone or something.
A fan-service deadzone?
+1 lol
Joyce Brown: Lesbian Love Sleuth
Now that’s a remake of Encyclopedia Brown I could go for.
I thought Joyce was more Harriet the Spy instead of Encyclopedia Brown. Since both are writers.
Good catch.
Harriet was also implied to be into women as well.

Anyone else noticed Willis Bluesky Feed is frozen from weeks ago?
Again? Thought the issue were only because of Twitter
Yes.
It’s had the same content since it was installed.
(Unlike the Twatter feed, which was broken for me because the platform decided to make itself completely useless unless you were logged into your own account.)
Looks like it works now!
She knows why Dottie sent her own.
So take your bets on the chances of Mary counter-protesting the protest?
I loved to see this. But, in another way, it could be very traumatic.
In real life, Judith Butler has come to São Paulo some years ago. The protests AGAINST her were atrocious, violent…
And most worrisome is that Mary is turning herself an activist.
*I’ll love to see this
Maybe Mary is what people are gathering to protest.
Since Jocelyne’s emphasizing some security practices, I’m guessing the protest’s topic is bigger than Mary.
Clearly Dorothy needs a second opinion on Jennifer’s boobs. As licensed boob investigators it is their job to share and discuss them.
I’m surprised by Jocelyne, participating in protests (not so much: she’s a writer). I wonder if she’ll be cool if Joyce would join it, too..
I mean, if she’s actually not going to tell Joyce out of ‘she doesn’t read my texts so she doesn’t deserve to know’ then yeah, she’s not going to want Joyce’s company either.
Well, how’s Joss gonna tell her? By texting?
It’s impossible for Jocelyne to know if Joyce reads her texts or not, only that she never answers. This is one reason it’s important to have important conversations with her face to face.
That’s not what she said. She specifically said she wasn’t going to do this over the phone, which would include texts and then mentioned Joyce never seems to read those anyways.
Well answer.
why dod you illmediately recognise whose it is
She’s seen the cleavage before. When they went to the lake. Joyce was impressed.
snort – I love how Joyce can tell whose boobs those are, no face, not even a distinctive shirt.
BoobSight is part of her weirding way.
it’s her autism superpower ^^
Clearly, Dorothy is very distinct from Jennifer.
tbf, she has hung around Jennifer lot, and she doesn’t exactly hide em.
nobody has told her what a “special interest” is yet, but we already know what hers is XD
gotta be careful going to protests at Indiana University, they’ll send in rooftop snipers on you
Do we know what protest Jocelyne definitely isn’t participating in?
Likeliest answer is trans rights in the face of increasing criminalization of existing as a transgender person. But like… Take your pick of the American right-wing’s bullshit, whether they specifically target Jocelyne or not? Gay rights? Women’s bodily autonomy? Immigration? Trump generally? Israel? Russia? Healthcare? Defund the police? Tax and/or eat the rich?
Couple years ago (?) the campus administration put in more restrictive rules on protesting. So there was a fast protest about that, too.

To give her plausible deniability to her parents and other busybodies who might object to her participating in protests*?
*Parents being parents it doesn’t even have to be for a cause they object to.
government doesnt like protests and can see and hear and record everything your phone does and its becky and jocelyne so maybe something gay
You turn your phone off at protests so the cops can’t track you. Optimally, you don’t bring the damn thing in the first place since you won’t need it and if they decide to get spicy you *will* not get it back and they’ll do their damnedest to crack it open like a clam and arrest everyone you vaguely know.

Doctorow does good and honest stuff. I’ve read his books for years.
Turn it off and leave it at home. Think of a smartphone as a tracking device Batman might use to find criminals, but Donald Trump’s administration is Batman and you’re the criminal.

What about the phrasing makes you think she’s not planning to tell Joyce about it? “So not yet” makes me think the opposite.
No, it’s not something you do over the phone including text. She was just being an older sister saying “Not that she responds to my texts anyways.”
This is really funny
I thought to myself, “Ah, so they’re distinctive”, before checking the alt-text. So that’s a fun, little coincidence to end the day on.
It’s not hard to tell the difference between the two, on pair is lager in mass and the other has freckles.
I think someone called Joyce instantly recognizing Jennifer’s cleavage, and I’m kinda disappointed they are not here bragging about it so I could congratulate them.
Come on up, Tan! Congratulations! You have won a Smegma mini fridge!
Several of us did. Joyce was quite impressed by them (“safe and warm forever”) when she first saw them.
I mean, we know that Joyce has objectively correct taste in all things. Jennifer has what scholars refer to as a “bangin’ rack.”
If only the mind’s output matched the mammaries’ mass.
Two words:
Scroll. Up. (maybe.)
Exactly what I’ve been thinking this whole storyline. Like I get accidentally texting someone but like how long can you go on one chain without even looking at the actual chat window?
Whose up for a game of Tit Tag?
This definitely calls for some king of tit-for-tatas response
Some KIND of
KIND
dammit
This asskismet system definitely needs an edit option.
I’d abuse the hell out of an edit button. If someone went off the rails over some innocent remark of mine, I’d be changing that remark to something completely unrelated, like a recipe for marmalade.
TAFFY: [edited] The true secret to great marmalade is a minimum of 24 hours for the pectin to set properly.
TROLL: How DARE! I foam at the MOUTH! I spew BILE and VILE!
I’m an alpha. Only cuck pectin needs that long to set.
This definitely calls for some queen of tit-for-tatas response.
Seems like that entire plotline ended in a bust.
Your mom ended in a bust/j
I see what you did there
Yes, it’s most impressive. But that’s not why we’re here.
Do we feel like boobs for expecting more?
Or do we just feel boobs?
Joyce knows her boobs well…
It’s like how Tina in Bob’s Burgers has a photographic butt memory.
And Billie’s, too.
I think we found the title for the volume collection
Safe and warm forever.
It’s not like everybody has spent a lot of time looking at them or anything.
… YOU MEAN THAT WOULD WORK?!?
Joss, there IS a way to make Joyce magically respond to your texts.
Be named “Dorothy”.
”I’d recognize those two anywhere, but why are they on my phone?”
Joyce’s memorized everyone’s breaststroke on that wong, hasn’t she?
Okay, predictive text made that pretty funny.
The plot thickens!
… I mean, Dina would fuck a cop up.
finally we get back to Joyce ogling breasts. the questionable content I live for. ~<3
Five bucks says that Joyce can recognize boobs with greater accuracy than Joe.
Why did the unrequited love of my life send me a photo of the sexiest breasts I know? DoA book 15
(Clearly using the character’s names in the title could only be confusing and offputting to any potential new readers, so we’ll have to work around that.)
The magic way is tits, Jocelyne.
Something just occurred to me.
Dorothy has always (beyond the last week or so) wanted to be president.
Why wasn’t she in some of the more passive protest groups?
Probably time. She wanted the grades for Yale and was already forcing in Amazagirl.
Because she’s not thaaaat revolutionary person, you know. Like a liberal.
Because things like that typically hinder if they’re for anything actually important, not help unfortunately.
Doubly so for a woman, so she’s probably played it pretty safe on that front.
My question is how does Joyce know these are Jennifer’s breasts and not Dorothy. Has Joyce been checking out breasticles?
Well, the size difference and different skin tones are probably a clue. She might also recollect how Jennifer is dressed if they crossed paths earlier off-scene.
Correction, they are DD-stinctive.
