Alternate dimension versions of the same hero, yes. One took up the mantle after the other one hung it up in the original dimension, but they’re both from the same dimension?
While I’m here, if anyone DID have any suggestions for some Amber/Walky (Or Lucy or Malaya i’m fickle) I MAY do some. I’m working on an animation project and doing little doodles on the side is fun.
No unfortunately it’s Jimmy Roberts, the protagonist of Re-Animated and Out of Jimmy’s head, the god-awful cartoon network live action movie and spinoff show.
I was going to try to write a parody of “Tainted Love,” but if you substitute “Garbage Love” it pretty much works without alteration for the current Walky/Amber situation.
You know there are plenty of times when all you guys drive me up the fucking wall but I haft to say that I love this community, It’s full of creative minds.
*shrug* I wouldn’t go that far. I just like drawing the characters. Honestly I mostly just do a lot of art because the girls are really cute. And some of the boys
In time, many things are possible. The DoA floating timeline puts limits on what we might see in our lifetimes. That said, it’s certainly not unreasonable to think that the SS Garbage Skowl might rise again, sooner or later, if it suits DYW to make it so.
My money’s on this scenario: apart from being the place where their relationship began, the Garbage Roof is really important to each of them as individuals, and it’s not unreasonable to imagine that they might accidentally meet there again.

Arin Hanson/Egoraptor* It occurred to me that just saying Arin gave absolutely no context to who the hell I was referring to. Also good to know it also comes from Tumblr, makes me wonder what the source of it is.
“Listen, Bro…I’m glad you’re finally supporting me and all but like…You’re not about to land a cooler girlfriend than Amber. Chick scales walls like the goddamn batman.”
I sincerely hope that Sal gives that advice to Walky, if not word for word then paraphrased into “Sal-speak.” Sal-speak is like normal words but slightly cooler and has a southern accent.
I’m definitely hoping they talk about this so maybe Amber and Walky can get back together. Though if it doesn’t work out between them I hope Walky gets with Lucy, since I’m shipping that pairing as well.
At it’s worst it’s just a mildly bitter comment based on their history. Which, while it was true, is not that clever a comment if you’re going for a burn.
I’m kinda glad Sal’s doubting Walky’s commitment blew up on her a little there. He’s been trying to reach out to her for weeks now, so maybe now that she’s done it with Amber, she can take a leap of faith on Walky, too.
Sal’s acknowledged he’s making an effort, but she’s still not willing to forget he’s been …unsupportive let’s say for the last 18 years. You can’t make that up with a couple instances. Walky noticed when their mom treated her like shit with the care packages and that was great but it’s not enough yet (he also invited her for dinner, but A) That was Dorothy’s idea, not his and B) It wasn’t really a great offer considering it sounded a LOT like pity.).
Walky’s getting there but Sal’s not under obligation to forget that he’s not been that great historically after only a few weeks.
Of course, we don’t how hard he actually tried to know her or how hard it even was to contact her. If there was nothing stopping him from keeping in touch then not knowing her now is just another example of him being a bad brother.
*gestures at his parents* can’t imagine whose fault that might be.
Dude’s 18 or so. Everything up until now has been the product of his upbringing and surroundings, and he’s trying to recognize that and learn, but he had a pretty limited way of doing that at home.
Walky’s stated reason was ‘the rising cost of postage’ – i.e. his reasoning was weak (and only gets weaker as we go further into the age of email). We’ve got no indication his parents did anything to stop him. I wouldn’t be surprised if they did, but up to this point we’ve got no indication of it.
Yeah, Walky was a kid. That doesn’t mean he wasn’t unsupportive or make things worse sometimes. This isn’t a situation of ‘golden child wants to help but is unable’. This is a situation of ‘golden child didn’t even notice anything was wrong (or didn’t want to notice anything was wrong’). Yeah, he’s getting better, but that doesn’t change their history.
His stated reasoning was bullshit, but his stated reasoning was almost certainly not the real reasoning. Given Walky’s long established character trait of making light of serious things, it make far more sense he was doing that, rather than actually suggesting it as a serious explanation.
Walky also has a long established history of being very lazy and not really supporting or reaching out to his sister (partially because of his parents, yes, but also because he had a hard time understanding her feelings and so ‘tuned her out’). I’m not sure why we should automatically believe it had to do with his parents when there are other, equally in character reasons for why he never bothered.
And yeah, I can believe there’s more to it than ‘the rising cost of postage’ (because, again, seriously dude, that was WEAK) but I’m not sure it’s automatically because of his parents. I mean, I’m sure they didn’t HELP, but I’m not sure Walky would have bothered anyways. Remember, this is at the point he still hasn’t realized his parents are racist and abusive tools. He still thought he was the favourite because he’d earned it by being the good child who didn’t rob convenience stores.
If they’d wanted him to contact her, he would have, like it or not. Since they didn’t, they were going to discourage it and we know what happens to kids who go against Linda.
They didn’t even let her come home for holidays, apparently. Staying in touch would have been a major act of rebellion from the 13 year old Golden Child.
Mind you, it’s perfectly understandable for Sal to still be bothered by it.
I STILL want to know just where the fuck Sal stayed over holidays since she didn’t come home. Did she stay with Marcie? Did her school let students stay over breaks? Did she have to couch surf with some of those ‘worst dang people’ she made friends with?
And on that note, if its the last one – who the FUCK lets their 13 year old live god knows where in another state over breaks?!?
As a boarding school grad, yes they let you stay over. The dorms might not be as well heated, dining hall might not be open, but you won’t freeze or starve. Not uncommon over Thanksgiving or spring break, but cold to do that to a kid at Christmas. Usually, someone will have pity and take you home for the break.
She’s not under obligation to be nice to Walky for Walky’s sake, but actually confronting her baggage has really only ever had positive consequences for her lately. She’s made friends in Danny, Ethan potentially, and Amber, got back into Marcie’s good graces, and cast aside her gloves.
Holding onto “you were a cog in our abusive parents’ machinations” as a way of getting any kind of revenge is like holding a hot coal in order to throw it. Sure, you might get the catharsis of beaning someone, but it’d be fleeting, and the burns? Not so much.
1) Sal’s not ‘holding onto things to get revenge’. She’s noticed and commented that it was nice he noticed their mom’s shit and tells Amber here that he does try, but he’s never been very good at it. Which has been true aside from a couple instances in the last few weeks.
2) Forgiving is one thing. Forgetting is another. One can be good for you, the other makes you a doormat.
Why does Sal have to do everyone else’s emotional labour for them? Why can’t Walky get off his ass and put in the work to repair the relationship he neglected and damaged with his indifference and selfishness?
For some reason, this comic has once again reminded me that I think Sal and Danny would make an incredibly cute couple.
In other news, I’m really happy with the strides forward everyone is making in their relationships here. Marcy is acknowledging the Sal is trying. Sal is realizing the Walky is trying more and noticing more. Amber is just flat out going crazy with the truth sharing…granted, some of it is for purely self-destructive purposes. But I like our current trend of character growth here!
I keep saying that the Walkerton family crest is a knight vehemently refusing to discuss his feelings and they keep proving me right.
Damn this emotionally constipated family! It’s almost like emotional abuse, racism and golden child style favouritism AREN’T good tools to raise healthy kids! The FUCK?
Linda is happy to discuss feelings. Specifically, how disappointed Sal makes her feel.
And her son David is developing splendidly, thank you very much. He is on his way to become a doctor, and has a girlfriend who dressed him and never, ever fails at math tests. Linda is sure of it. And I’m sure she’ll take it VERY WELL if she happens to learn otherwise.
FWIW, I think that, from the central cast, Sal and Walky are the most likely to have their college funding withdrawn if they don’t meet their parents’ social expectations.
Whaaaat? I can’t IMAGINE Linda and Charles doing something harmful and evil towards their own children like that. What will they do next? Steal Sal’s shoebox money she’s saving for an injured friend?
(I suppose, technically ToeDad already pulled Becky out of college… he just didn’t stop there)
I was sure about that too, right up until Hank went behind Carol’s back to support Joyce and Becky. If anything, I can see the issue of Joyce staying at college becoming one of the straws on the camel’s back that is the Brown marriage.
On the other hand, I can’t see Charles and Linda disagreeing over anything when it comes to their social standing.
A) Charles has committed his own emotional abuse too. The majority of the time Sal brings up her parents abuse, it is parentS. Plural. We’ve also seen Charles insult Sal to her face.
B) I do hate Linda. You can see pretty that much any time she’s brought up, mentioned, or appears in the comics or comment section. I don’t make a secret of how much I hate Linda. I’m not sure why that means Charles should get ignored, especially when a lot of people in the comments section don’t mention Charles’ own abusive actions.
C) The post above said Charles would not intervene with Linda for the kids. I agreed with that. Heck, so are you by your acknowledgement Charles will not stand up.
D) Yeah, I have no problem criticizing parents for enabling their partner’s abuse of their kids when we’ve not seen any evidence Charles is likewise abused by his wife.
I agree on points B through D and like 80% of point A, but you always say that Charles insulted Sal to her face. I just read the strip to make sure and he didn’t insult her. He comments on her hair being all curly again and Sal is a bit dismissive of it (“it just sort of…happened”) and Charles answers in the same tone she uses “too bad, you look pretty with long straight hair”. Now, you could make an argument he is insulting her to her face. But seeing the face he has while.making the comment and how he was acting before and after, I’m pretty sure that was a thoughtless comment. The same every father does when giving an opinion on their child’s hair.
I’ve had a lot of arguments with my mum over my hair, that doesn’t mean she is insulting me.
Yeah, no, there’s no good way to comment ‘Too bad. You look prettier with your hair the other way’ and not be insulting. Charles not meaning to be insulting doesn’t mean he’s not. Being thoughtless and insulting are not mutually exclusive. There’s a reason why Sal takes that as her cue to say ‘Yeah, nice seeing you, I’m bowing out now’. Sal has issues with her parents, but she does love them and wants them to love her back. I think if she felt like these weren’t insulting, she wouldn’t have left (and then of course there’s her reaction once her hair is actually relaxed and how defensive she gets when Walky comments on it later – the strip cannot be blaring ‘this is a sore spot and her dad is partially why’ louder or clearer). Linda gets a lot of attention (which she earns) by being the more obvious ‘hack and slash’ style with her abuse – it’s hard not to see it as blatant emotional and financial abuse if you know what to look for. Charles strikes me more as someone who pokes a lot at sore spots until they feel unbearable, whether he knows it or not. Personally, I’m not sure where I stand on whether he’s oblivious, thoughtless or just doesn’t care. Most of the time I lean towards thoughtless but there are times I wonder, just because the most blatant example we have of his emotional abuse on screen is a fairly obvious social grace (‘don’t say ‘too bad, you look better the other way’ when someone has a new hairstyle’) and because Sal’s been fairly consistent about it being both her parents sucking.
Parents may be immune to certain social graces (though I’d argue not this one because it is really just basic fucking respect and nobody is exempt from that) but it does not make what Charles said not insulting. Him not intending it to be insulting means he’s not going out of his way to insult his daughter to her face, but it doesn’t erase that that is in fact what he did. I’d be fucking pissed if my dad’s reaction to me having straightened my hair was ‘too bad, you look pretty with it curly’. I’m not black so it’s not the exact same thing but if one of your first comments to your daughter when you haven’t seen her in five years is ‘Oh, too bad, I like your hair the other way’, you’re being a grade A dick face, parent or no parent. Sal’s a way better daughter than either parent gives her credit for solely for not telling Charles EXACTLY where he could stick that comment.
I think that there is a likelihood that Walky will turn up and, because he’s Walky, actually ask Amber’s opinion about Lucy. Whether that will trigger Amazi-Girl to go over and have a word with her is another question.
I’m sort of hoping that Amber decides to go to movie night with him because it would be genuinely interesting writing to see how Lucy reacts to Walky turning up with his girlfriend. Will she start creating a fantastical moral justification the way Joyce does with Jacob or will she rebound so hard that she ends up back in Read Hall?
“Hey, Amber. Yeah, some girl you’ve never met asked me to take Billie’s place at movie night, and I thought I’d put the whole ‘I can’t even talk to you because you hurt my sister’ thing on hold for a while to get your input on this!”
As far as Lucy’s response to Walky and Amber somehow getting back together goes, the first time Walky and Lucy met, she started writing fanfic in her head where he was reconciled with Dorothy. She only became interested in him after she learned he was available. I suspect she’d think “Ah, well, good for him.”
This is why she’s over in Forest Quad; she’s just not screwed up enough to be a main character.
I was thinking it’s been a while since we’ve seen Amazi-Girl. And that’s true IRL (Sept. 6, 2018, not counting a more recent blue panel). In-universe, it’s been somewhere around 30-36 hours.
noooo my merciless teasing will have no teeth
Who’s Burnin’ Who?
For Walky
Dammit, Walky, you just had to go and care about your sister, didn’t you.
https://imgur.com/a/e0GNnqG
Oh I drew this the other day. AmberxWalky is still my OTP tho.
This is wonderful! 🙂
Methinks Lucy may have bitten off more than she can chew. Agreed, it is wonderful
god yet another crossover with superheroes fighting each other, when will the comics community stop using that damn trope
Alternate dimension versions of the same superhero, no less. 🙂
Alternate dimension versions of the same hero, yes. One took up the mantle after the other one hung it up in the original dimension, but they’re both from the same dimension?
Hey, beat that trope into the ground enough, and it becomes good again.
While I’m here, if anyone DID have any suggestions for some Amber/Walky (Or Lucy or Malaya i’m fickle) I MAY do some. I’m working on an animation project and doing little doodles on the side is fun.
*cough* butts
Don’t tempt me, Butts. You don’t know how fond I am of posterior.
listen man i’ve seen plenty of your work, i know exactly how fond of posterior you are
Not front butts?
Ironically no.
Yes, but have you considered this: Boobs.
Excellent counterpoint
What kind of animation project is it? Will we be able to see it someday?
It’s a reanimate. I’ll let y’all guess which one it is.
Herbert West? (Only reanimator I know)
No unfortunately it’s Jimmy Roberts, the protagonist of Re-Animated and Out of Jimmy’s head, the god-awful cartoon network live action movie and spinoff show.
I’ve said before, butts needs a nice Dina butt.
I feel like this would happen if Lucy was as vindictive as people was originally theorizing she was.
Garbage love will always have a place in my heart.
Quick, someone write lyrics extolling the virtues of garbage love.
I can’t imagine Oscar from Sesame Street hasn’t done that.
It’s not what I expected when I clicked on the link, which is why I laughed like an idiot after I did.
It’s like the shadow part in one of Sergio Aragones’s “The Shadow Knows” strips in Mad Magazine.
I think what I was trying to say is: Yotomoe, your art taps into the Freudian id of DoA characters in a way that probably surprises even their author.
*shrug* I wouldn’t go that far. I just like drawing the characters.
Honestly I mostly just do a lot of art because the girls are really cute. And some of the boysThe girls ARE cute.
The cutest.
Great one. Amber is so surprised.
Awesome sketch. Good luck with the animation.
I love when you draw Lucy, you make her even cuter than she already is
WOW! Lucy can LIFT!
Very nice~
I still am in the belief that they can reconcile, naive as I may think
In time, many things are possible. The DoA floating timeline puts limits on what we might see in our lifetimes. That said, it’s certainly not unreasonable to think that the SS Garbage Skowl might rise again, sooner or later, if it suits DYW to make it so.
My money’s on this scenario: apart from being the place where their relationship began, the Garbage Roof is really important to each of them as individuals, and it’s not unreasonable to imagine that they might accidentally meet there again.
Sal and Walky, Walky and Amber, or Amber and Sal?
Yes.
oh.
right.
the stabbing.
Hey, what’s a little stabbing between friends.
Who hasn’t stabbed someone in their lifetime, really.
Like sometimes you turn into a snake because you know your brother loves snakes. And when he goes to pick up the snake to admire it, you transform back into yourself and are like “wah, it’s me!” And then you stab him. Typical childish prank.
Wait, is that not?
I …may need to go apologize to my brother. Be right back.
I got that reference!
Supernatural?
Thor: Ragnarok.
Really. It’s the kind of thing that could happen to anyone.
Can you really even *be* friends with someone if one of you hasn’t stabbed the other at least once?
I haven’t yet, but maybe I will one day when I find that special person I want give my first stabbing too.
is it still ‘stabbing’ if it was with my teeth?
well… they wer still in my jaw at the time.
The stabbing of Sal’s hand. The stabbing where Amber stabbed Sal’s hand. Sal and Amber’s stabbing.
So basically the relationship problem is that Amber and Walky haven’t stabbed each other yet? Sounds positively Freudian.
I am unable to read this in anything but Kronk’s (P. Warburton) voice.
whoa in panel 3 sal really looks like walky’s sister
Walky isn’t the kind of person that forgives easily offenses to the people he cares about. The Walkyverse has shown it.
Walky’s like a worn out bra. He doesn’t provide the support you want, but I guess there’s some support there so you can’t complain.
But he might snap at any moment.
He’s also covered in stains.
Is he the kind of bra with the underwire almost poking out so you keep getting stabbed in the underboob and it’s just the worst?
That’s the time the wire gets torn out and my bras become a billion times comfier.
Yessss the true joy of picking that wire out and being finally free is one of life’s little pleasures.
It really is. Yanking that thing out is liberating.
why don’t you buy them without wire in the first place?
Go to your room and think about what you’ve done!
Sometimes I do! Sometimes the ones with wires are the only ones around.
Sometimes I have to buy the cheapest bra available, my friend.
Walky does seem like the kinda guy who would constantly poke you in the underboob if you let him.
Only if he wants his fingers snapped off. 😉
Then you really shouldn’t have let him.
That was meant to be an indication that this doesn’t seem like the kind of thing most people I know would allow. That poking feeling is not pleasant.
More like a bra without wires. You use it, because it’s more comfy to wear than one with wire but you are never sure if you need more support than what it can supply.
I kept reading that as Footsies and imagined Amber and Marcie were just playing footsies until Sal showed up. Just real awkward all around.
It started with comparing shoe size and developed from there.
Dammit, Walky, you can’t even support her statement you don’t support her. 😛 Of all the times to start*. Rude.
* = I’m being factitious here, don’t @ me.
You remind me of Arin with the don’t @ me. I’m sure that’s a thing from other places of the internet but that is where I know it from.
I know it from tumblr but neat! 😀
Arin Hanson/Egoraptor* It occurred to me that just saying Arin gave absolutely no context to who the hell I was referring to. Also good to know it also comes from Tumblr, makes me wonder what the source of it is.
Twitter
On tumblr if you put an @ symbol and the person’s username, your post will show up in their notifications.
. . .Is it weird that I am really really really looking forward to the eventual talk between Sal and Walky about this subject?
If it makes you weird, goddamn, I must be a FREAK. I am so excited for that chat it makes me actually physically bounce in my seat like a little kid.
“gaddang batman”
Sal doesn’t know Walky knows about the superhero thing, does she.
No, and Walky doesn’t know that Sal knows. Normally I would predict shenanigans from this ensue, but you never can tell with a Willis comic.
I’m definitely hoping they talk about this so maybe Amber and Walky can get back together. Though if it doesn’t work out between them I hope Walky gets with Lucy, since I’m shipping that pairing as well.
It’s not even on my radar but I’m looking forward to that sibling chat too
Also – Sal, sweetie, honey, I love you, but it’s not THAT great a burn. 😛
Honestly calling it a burn is in itself overselling it. That’s a snide comment at best.
At it’s worst it’s just a mildly bitter comment based on their history. Which, while it was true, is not that clever a comment if you’re going for a burn.
Maybe the implication is she was GONNA make a sick burn and now she can’t make it without it being in bad taste.
That would make more sense but I choose to go with Sal being a dork.
I knew it; Sal’s a dork and she says dorky things sometimes.
I’m kinda glad Sal’s doubting Walky’s commitment blew up on her a little there. He’s been trying to reach out to her for weeks now, so maybe now that she’s done it with Amber, she can take a leap of faith on Walky, too.

Walky’s getting there but Sal’s not under obligation to forget that he’s not been that great historically after only a few weeks.
Mind you, he was also a child and didn’t know her for most of their teenage lives.
Of course, we don’t how hard he actually tried to know her or how hard it even was to contact her. If there was nothing stopping him from keeping in touch then not knowing her now is just another example of him being a bad brother.
*gestures at his parents* can’t imagine whose fault that might be.

His stated reasoning was bullshit, but his stated reasoning was almost certainly not the real reasoning. Given Walky’s long established character trait of making light of serious things, it make far more sense he was doing that, rather than actually suggesting it as a serious explanation.
It could be as simple as keeping in touch is work and if Linda didn’t even offer to cover the cost of postage she likely didn’t encourage it.

Walky has given us no reason to extend him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to giving a damn about Sal prior to current events.
Linda and Charles. We know them.
If they’d wanted him to contact her, he would have, like it or not. Since they didn’t, they were going to discourage it and we know what happens to kids who go against Linda.

Is that universal or does it depend on the boarding school?
Summers?
She likely stayed over for short breaks and went to summer camp in the, well, summer.
Nope. Walky hasn’t seen her in five years. She didn’t come home over breaks.
And you meant stayed over at the school. Ah. My bad.

“sal and danny would make a cute couple” that… didn’t go so well last time but okay
This is true but this is a WHOLE NEW WORLD, baby! 😀
Besides, when have silly things like ‘this ship is obviously doomed’ or ‘never gonna be canon’ stopped shippers? 😛
I’m going out on a limb here and saying never.
Stopped shippers? They take it as a personal challenge.
Heh, I think Sal looks forward to talking feelings with Walky almost as much as Walky does.
I keep saying that the Walkerton family crest is a knight vehemently refusing to discuss his feelings and they keep proving me right.
Damn this emotionally constipated family! It’s almost like emotional abuse, racism and golden child style favouritism AREN’T good tools to raise healthy kids! The FUCK?
Look, it was worth a try. Without empirical data, how could we be sure?
Nuking from orbit is the only way to be sure.
Orbital bombardment: when you care enough to send the very best…
Linda is happy to discuss feelings. Specifically, how disappointed Sal makes her feel.
And her son David is developing splendidly, thank you very much. He is on his way to become a doctor, and has a girlfriend who dressed him and never, ever fails at math tests. Linda is sure of it. And I’m sure she’ll take it VERY WELL if she happens to learn otherwise.

Linda understands Sal is a bad influence on Walkerton.
Joyce.
Whose parents have already discussed pulling her out of college.
Thereby proving that Charles and Linda have the stronger marriage.
I wonder who they used for babysitting in this universe?
Pffft, no, Charles might make sympathetic eyes at the kids while Linda pulls the plug on college, but he won’t actually DO anything, no.
Y’know, sometimes I think you hate Charles more for not standing up than you hate Linda for her ACTUAL abuse.
I respectfully disagree because parents are parents and they will stick their noses up yo business (like hairstyles) whether you want it or not.
“parents are parents”? So much NOPE. That’s awfully close to what my mum said after calling me a brat for trying to have a boundary.
I am not going to lie: I initially misread the 1st sentence as “Your friend is going to lewd me” and I had to stop and reread that.
You should have lied.
We would have been much happier without knowing you reread it.
SAL: “Amber? Thank you for making me feel like an utter turd.”
AMBER: “With me, it’s actually par for the course.”
Mark my words, Walky and Amber will bang.
He is a goofy human, Sal, but he is human.
But she officially is a main character!
I was thinking it’s been a while since we’ve seen Amazi-Girl. And that’s true IRL (Sept. 6, 2018, not counting a more recent blue panel). In-universe, it’s been somewhere around 30-36 hours.
“Welp, so much fer bonding over how much of an’ idiot my bro is.”
“We can always fall back on our original plan of ‘trying to move past our mutual trauma together’, right?”
“… ennh, ah guess.”
Such a disappointement, Walky *tssk tssk*
there is probably an *amazing* german word for the disappointment you feel for not being disappointed.
If not, I have faith they could jam one together.
