Given that she was basically in a suicide pact last semester and she drove her other girlfriend into a tree, it would probably come in last for doomed yuri for just Jennifer’s canon relationships.
It’s very common anti-bisexual rhetoric that bi-people are greedy. They want every sexual option and thus are promiscuous and looking to steal romantic options from both sides. You’re either straight or gay, wanting more than that is selfish. It’s hard enough finding love. How dare you potentially take more from me.
I ALMOST understand that line of thinking, then I remember that emotions are not a zero-sum game with a limited resource beyond time. After which, I realize what that logic chain really is. It’s akin to Narcissism-someone whom is limited in their emotional scope assigning the same limits to others.
I know Billie is generally a jerk, but I kind of feel bad for her. She is just so messed up and so confused in so many ways all the time. She basically wonders from one disaster to the other with no conception of her own agency in her misfortunes. Its like she is playing life by completely different rules to how society and reality operates and is too stupid to figure it out. Its got to be like being a 100% sure 2+2=5 and then keep failing math. You know you’re failing but can’t figure out why so you just become more and more angry and confused.
There’s a lot to pity about her, and I can certainly relate to doing self-destructive shit for dumb reasons, but unfortunately it is consistently really funny to watch her fail.
I’ve compared her to Wile E Coyote a few times before for a reason.
I used to feel bad for her. And maybe I still feel a little bit bad for her. She currently has like, no real friends. Raidah’s friend group certainly doesn’t like her, and she ditched all her old ones. But there comes a certain point where someone is so self-destructive and toxic that as bad as you feel for them, it just doesn’t really… go that far anymore? Like as much as I feel for Jennifer, she literally had no reason to stir the pot with Dorothy the way she is. Especially after she tried to pull Dorothy under her wing to cheer her up, hence why Ruth is calling her out.
Look I don’t really like “Jennifer” over “Billie” either, but I keep noticing the narrative that she’s always the jerk in every interaction when that’s not true. Dorothy snapped at Jen first when she brought up Dorothy’s widely known desire to get into politics. Dorothy then told her to fuck off when Jen noted Dorothy isn’t doing well. Jennifer did not stir the pot here. Dorothy was the one kind of out of line. The most antagonizing thing Jen did was insult Dorothy’s cleavage.
It feels like because Jennifer in general is so unlikable now, she can’t do anything without being the bad guy.
She opened with a direct insult on Dorothy’s body. That’s… not nice. That’s not showing an interest. That colors everything she says afterward as antagonistic because the first thing she said was antagonistic.
You could argue that her starting off by insulting Dorothy’s cleavage basically out of the blue set the tone for the rest of the interaction, even when the topic changed.
See, Jennifer didn’t just point out that Dorothy wasn’t doing well. She was clearly saying it in a pretty mocking way. “Damn Dorothy, you really ARE unraveling. You used to keep your shit together” vs “Wow, Dorothy, you’re not acting like yourself, are you okay?”. If someone, who knew I was going through a mental health crisis of some kind (which Jennifer does since she tried taking Dorothy out to karaoke to make her feel better), started mocking me about it, you know for damn sure I’d tell them to fuck off.
Whether she’s likable or not, I’m able to read the comic pages. At no point in these strips has she been un-antagonistic. Even her relaying she and Dorothy both knew Amazi-girl’s true identity was delivered in a very weird, antagonistic way. She insulted Dorothy’s boobs. She’s insulting Dorothy’s mental health crisis. If you’re really trying to argue that saying to someone having a breakdown’s face “you used to keep your shit together” ISN’T out of line, then I have nothing more to say on the subject. But I’m not going to condemn Jennifer for just existing in a strip. I don’t do that for any of the characters. Not even Raidah, who I actually hate.
WAIT! Did Jenifer get turned on and or jealous when she saw Dorothy’s down shirt pick and that’s why she sent her own pick (to undermine Dorothy’s flirting by sending a different woman’s cleavage) and then proceed to bully flirt with Dorothy???
Oh what’s the matter Ruth are you jealous Jennifer was going to start another Lesbian suicide pact with someone else?
For real though I still say if Dorothy was having this crisis several months sooner she probably would have the opportunity to be Ruthe & Billies 3rd, all she would need to do is commit to what the younger ones these days call…”Crashing out.”
That was the part of the comment that was supposed to be a joke, but yes.
I feel like this is a good opportunity to drop that one hit song that’s been floating around this year though, what was it called?…”Good luck babe?” I know one if these two would be to playing this on loop.
Jennifer is firmly in Asuka territory: She needs 15 hugs and twice as many hours of therapy-per-week, but I want to be on any other continent until she gets the help she so desperately needs.
Also, I am learning to hate this site. I have a poor internet connection, but of all the sites I visit this is the one that fucks up the most and leaves me the most frustrated.
I am sorry to hear that. This site is defiantly one of the more temperamental ones I have come across.
Weirdly, I feel like trying to use this site is probably a lot like what life is like for Billie. She wants the fun cute story about friendship and college romance, but her hardware isn’t everything it probably should be and things keep functioning by rules she doesn’t quite understand. Therefore, she gets frustrated and tries to either brute force her way through or keeps coming up with hurried, half-baked plans to get what she wants. Of course, neither of those paths ever work out because she doesn’t really understand the underlying logic everybody is working with.
Regular mobile Firefox actually makes this site completely usable just with its privacy features. It blocks enough ads just through privacy and safety stuff that only a few ads show up and they’re not the malicious ones.
I have a theory about this. I think there used to be, and it didn’t sell well. The smoothies didn’t want crunchy, and the crunchies liked the level of peanut inclusions of the extra crunchy better. And if they git rid of crunchy, and called extra crunchy, crunchy instead, it wouldn’t sell as well.
The mega-mansion is provided by Walky from the spare proceeds from his trampoline park empire. He pays the rest of them to live there and, except for Carla, they can’t afford to move out.
The fact that Jennifer looks wistful here when she’s saying that Dorothy’s straight holy shit. Is she just physically incapable of not being a piece of shit to people she has any positive feelings for?
Is it just me or did Jennifer look a little disappointed in panel 4? Like maybe she wanted Dorothy to kiss her? Ruth and Jennifer have both shown a slight attraction to Dorothy. They really have a type.
“Dorothy’s straight. I’m so sure of this I didn’t bother asking who she was sending the pic to, even after making her confirm that it wasn’t the one guy I could name off the top of my head who it might be”
I am with Becky that Ruth and Jennifer should never ever get back together. Blame the physical abuse. Once they started punching and throwing each other, I was against them ever getting back together.
They started punching and throwing each other before they got together the first time.
And there’s not necessarily anything wrong with that. They’re both into it. It’s flirting for both of them. They probably would need better boundaries around it – a safeword kind of approach, just to keep from screwing up and one of them getting actually hurt by it.
but as long as they’re mutually having fun with it, it’s not really a problem.
Remember two minutes ago back when Jennifer was following an Amazi-Girl lead? Whatever happened with that?
Oh right, there it is in panel 1, walking away without worrying about having given up any information. We have established she obviously knows Amazi-Girl and nothing else. Does she want to protect her secret identity? Is Amazi-Girls still being Amazi-Girl? Don’t know anything about that, but at least we have established Dorothy may not be the same person she was six months ago and Jennifer doesn’t like her. Solid journalism Jennifer.
Why would Jennifer need to follow up with Dorothy?
She already knows who AG is and Dorothy basically confirmed she was right. No more need for Dorothy.
Taking, sending, and/or receiving lewds is a _totally_ established part of medical processes. Why, my medical providers have diagrams of naked people (in various closeups) all over their walls.
thinking about:it, Dorothy x Billiefer:would:be the doomest yuri
The disappointment on Billie/Jennifer’s face in panel 4 is just perfect. Like “we totally would be making out if she wasn’t straight.”
Given that she was basically in a suicide pact last semester and she drove her other girlfriend into a tree, it would probably come in last for doomed yuri for just Jennifer’s canon relationships.
You’re straight, I’M straight… we should be straight… together! And occasionally make out just to keep in practice, like straight people do!
Bisexuality doesn’t exist…unless they’re hot. Then all bets are off.
she’s just jealous Dotty doesn’t have to hold the girls when walking down stairs
being demi is also a thing but at this point who knows maybe she’s also simply joyce-sexual
are we making an EGS reference here? ~<3
I like your reasoning better than the usual, “You’re just greedy.”
I don’t understand that logic at all, what does greed even have anything to do with being attracted to anyone?
It’s very common anti-bisexual rhetoric that bi-people are greedy. They want every sexual option and thus are promiscuous and looking to steal romantic options from both sides. You’re either straight or gay, wanting more than that is selfish. It’s hard enough finding love. How dare you potentially take more from me.
I’m not stealing anybody. I’m also non-monogamous.
I ALMOST understand that line of thinking, then I remember that emotions are not a zero-sum game with a limited resource beyond time. After which, I realize what that logic chain really is. It’s akin to Narcissism-someone whom is limited in their emotional scope assigning the same limits to others.
She’s actually attracted to misery
I appreciate Ruth calling Jennifer out.
Of course Jennifer bullying Dotty was her way of flirting with her (-_-)
I know Billie is generally a jerk, but I kind of feel bad for her. She is just so messed up and so confused in so many ways all the time. She basically wonders from one disaster to the other with no conception of her own agency in her misfortunes. Its got to be like being a 100% sure 2+2=5 and then keep failing math. You know you’re failing but can’t figure out why so you just become more and more angry and confused.
The thing is Jennifer likes disaster and drama. The problem is she doesn’t seem to realize most people…don’t.
There’s a lot to pity about her, and I can certainly relate to doing self-destructive shit for dumb reasons, but unfortunately it is consistently really funny to watch her fail.
I’ve compared her to Wile E Coyote a few times before for a reason.
if she’s Wile E. Coyote, i wonder who’d be Acme Corp…
She’ll reboot her personality again eventually.
Look I don’t really like “Jennifer” over “Billie” either, but I keep noticing the narrative that she’s always the jerk in every interaction when that’s not true. Dorothy snapped at Jen first when she brought up Dorothy’s widely known desire to get into politics. Dorothy then told her to fuck off when Jen noted Dorothy isn’t doing well. re: completely different rules,
she’s a cheer-leader who ritualistically thinks schemas which got her social status in high school automatically transfer over to college 9-9

dammit, that SHOULD have read,
“The form is perfect. It looks exactly the way it looked before. But it doesn’t work.”

This is why she’s my favourite character. I was exactly like this in college.
I can believe that
WAIT! Did Jenifer get turned on and or jealous when she saw Dorothy’s down shirt pick and that’s why she sent her own pick (to undermine Dorothy’s flirting by sending a different woman’s cleavage) and then proceed to bully flirt with Dorothy???
I mean looking back, “flirting” is a bit of a generous way of putting it
what she’s doing is negging, akin to that of so-called “pick-up artists”
@-@
esp since it’s ‘just the other day’ even tho it feels like it’s been over a month for us
I’d feel better about it if I knew whether Ruth was protecting Dorothy or hassling Jennifer.
Protecting Dorothy, hassling Jennifer, and flirting with Jennifer.
Ruth is efficient.
Those last two things? They’re the same thing.
Sudden Ruth!
A more refined and adult confection
Jennifer: Wrong about most things.
Fuck off, Jennifer.
Is Dorothy’s name “Off?”
I believe that’s Ruth’s name.
There’s a lot of depressed women with medium length hair and glasses roaming the halls of IU.
That’s every college though XD
Yay, self biphobia. Couldn’t happen to a nicer(?) person.
“Bi disaster” but in a non endearing way, unfortunately lol
Don’t blame your sexuality for your failures in relationships, Jennifer
Oh what’s the matter Ruth are you jealous Jennifer was going to start another Lesbian suicide pact with someone else?
For real though I still say if Dorothy was having this crisis several months sooner she probably would have the opportunity to be Ruthe & Billies 3rd, all she would need to do is commit to what the younger ones these days call…”Crashing out.”
isn’t she still currently with jason? even if there are lingering feelings would be weird to get jealous again
That was the part of the comment that was supposed to be a joke, but yes.
I feel like this is a good opportunity to drop that one hit song that’s been floating around this year though, what was it called?…”Good luck babe?” I know one if these two would be to playing this on loop.
Yeah no one ever gets jealous of their ex when they’re with the new partner. Nopenopenope. That’d be soooo weeeeird.
How very unusual, to feel a way about a person you felt strong feelings toward, after you’re no longer fucking them.
I just realized that soon “Netflix and chill” will seem dated. “Netflix? No one watches Netflix anymore.”
Read to filth, of course.
Billie/Jennifer is having a difficult time lately; I kinda feel bad for her although most of it is her fault.
To feel bad, or not feel bad? That is the question.
Jennifer is firmly in Asuka territory: She needs 15 hugs and twice as many hours of therapy-per-week, but I want to be on any other continent until she gets the help she so desperately needs.
isn’t most of her ‘difficult time’ lately (specifically with asher) more so self inflicted?
I know, I said that her problems are her fault; the situation with Asher is just one example.
Also, I am learning to hate this site. I have a poor internet connection, but of all the sites I visit this is the one that fucks up the most and leaves me the most frustrated.

Smooth as peanut butter.
*eats a spoonful of extra crunchy peanut butter*
How come my peanut butter comes in either smooth or extra crunchy, but I never can find the just plain ordinary crunchy?
I have a theory about this. I think there used to be, and it didn’t sell well. The smoothies didn’t want crunchy, and the crunchies liked the level of peanut inclusions of the extra crunchy better. And if they git rid of crunchy, and called extra crunchy, crunchy instead, it wouldn’t sell as well.
God dammit I love these two. I WANT TO BELIEVE
Smash cut 50 years later to more or less teh same cast/crew all living together in a mega-mansion and still bickering at each other lol
The mega-mansion is provided by Walky from the spare proceeds from his trampoline park empire. He pays the rest of them to live there and, except for Carla, they can’t afford to move out.
I mean, Jennifer’s parents basically already own a mansion,
https://www.dumbingofage.com/2022/comic/book-12/04-dont-stop-billie-ving/bighouse/
The fact that Jennifer looks wistful here when she’s saying that Dorothy’s straight holy shit. Is she just physically incapable of not being a piece of shit to people she has any positive feelings for?
I mean…no.
What she did to Asher was absolutely horrible and motivated by nothing.
She isn’t incapable. We saw her taking care of Ruth, back towards the end of their relationship.
But she’s a bratty sub and this is how she flirts. She just needs a partner who’ll properly put her in her place when she tries it. Like Ruth did.
in the most basic terms, Billifer needs a top, a real top not like Ruth. ~<3
She doesn’t seem to be Dina’s type.
once again I am in need of being able to upvote a comment. ~<3
*insert face of plausible deniability of straightness* The other day
“if she told you she’s an orphan” i’d rather not think of swapping Ruth’s and Dorothy’s psyches, aight
Is it just me or did Jennifer look a little disappointed in panel 4? Like maybe she wanted Dorothy to kiss her? Ruth and Jennifer have both shown a slight attraction to Dorothy. They really have a type.
A blonde, a brunette, and a redhead walk into a bar – history tells us this, too, is yuri.
Of course not. As Jennifer said, sHe iS s T r A i G h t…
Usually.
You are correct. Dorothy/Joyce never had this kind of heat.
Jennifer, you can’t get enough of being horrible, can you?
I see it. Dorothy and Ruth are both depressed bespectacled freckled ladies who Jennifer seems uniquely capable of riling up.
And gets hots for.
“Except for that one time. Two times. And when I made it weird with Sal. And when I hit on a super hero. And…”
“…and when I hit on my boss…”
Mmm. Hmmm. And it’s raining Post Toasties, Jen
Hehehe, I understood that reference.
“Dorothy’s straight. I’m so sure of this I didn’t bother asking who she was sending the pic to, even after making her confirm that it wasn’t the one guy I could name off the top of my head who it might be”
And also used they/them pronouns for the unknown person Dorothy was sending the picture to.
That just means she doesn’t know who it is though. Billie also just used “they” to describe Amazi-girl, who is pretty clearly a she based on her name.
They is inclusive. In absence of a specific request to not use it, it is perfectly fine.
It’s not like Jen keeps tabs on who Dorothy’s hanging out with though
I am with Becky that Ruth and Jennifer should never ever get back together. Blame the physical abuse. Once they started punching and throwing each other, I was against them ever getting back together.
They started punching and throwing each other before they got together the first time.
And there’s not necessarily anything wrong with that. They’re both into it. It’s flirting for both of them. They probably would need better boundaries around it – a safeword kind of approach, just to keep from screwing up and one of them getting actually hurt by it.
but as long as they’re mutually having fun with it, it’s not really a problem.
Billiefer is 100% sure Dorothy was sending that boobie picture to a boy.
So did Dorothy actually send the ohotos to Joyce? I want to see that whole mess, and it’s inevitable conclusion.
Photos*
jen took the picture but i don’t think she hit press send unless itw as automatic or so
Me when i’m straight: “She’s straight :(“
Rock solid, Ruth.
“Amazing. Every single word you said is wrong.”
“Ruth” is a word.
It’s wrong because she forgot the -less in Ruthless.
Also, glad that Ruth’s around to restore balance.
Honestly; Dorothy is one awkward dip into the hot water until she’s like spaghetti.
I know ppl talk about joycethy as a ship but idk if there’s rly been any other ‘chemistry’ or sexual tension with her and other girls
(Tho dina aside, if this was a more ‘anime-like’ story she’d have more ppl in teh fandom shpping her with becky lol)
Bisexuality is a spectrum and it includes people who find same-sex (or other-sex) attraction sparingly rather than 50/50.
Chewy and toothsome, with a good mouthfeel?
Dorothy was never the one in denial about her bisexuality.
Just about how much she respects monogamy.
“Titty pics” as a cry for help would be something
Tho it just reminds me of the always sunny ep like “I wanna feel/see more sadness coming from them (actress’ breasts)”
Holy shit front row seats to THIS?
Ruth being in the right doesn’t happen much, and getting to tell Billie to fuck off has been coming for a while
Okay, I fully support Jennifer and Dorothy over Ruth and Jennifer.
Dorothy needs to date disaster a few times before dating Joyce.
They’re both so clearly over each other at this point
Welp, the only thing Jennifer got right was Ruth’s name.
Jen’s insecure, terrified insistence that she’s normal and everyone else is a weird nerd makes her incredibly entertaining.
Ah Jennifer, I love your little trash fire brain so much.
Jennifer, go shag Booster, they would find you fascinating and they could use someone who enforces boundaries. Uhh, just don’t injure them.
“unless they ask you to”
“Once is never, twice is always.”

I should reread The Expanse.
Some _excellent_ hard science fiction.
That sad look, so Jennifer seriously thought about the possibility? Leaving her was the best decision Ruth made.
Why? She and Dorothy would be great together!
Dorothy can try to fix her and Jennifer can be horrible!
Is the implication that wishing you could smooch a straight girl is bad?
I think it was more about her finding the whole unnecessary confrontation and making Dorothy hot.
Dorothy could use some positive reinforcement for sticking to her guns.
If you’re insulting them so much to make them angry, yes.
And so is Asher! Usually.
She’s straight… obviously, usually, because bisexuality doesn’t exist. So there.
…. so apparently Willis thought that the Love Pentagram needed another line. Is there a name for the Dorothy/Jennifer ship yet?
I vote for DorWorthy.
The ironic part is that would still be less hazardous for Dorothy’s well being than actually going to Yale and becoming president 0-0
Interesting that Jennifer doesn’t look Ruth in the face after that second panel.
jennifer if people are sorry every time they speak to you maybe consider the common denominator
and so is Dorothy. Usually.
