Expressing friendship consists of snarky disapproval of someone’s life choices, followed by participation in said activities, accompanied by a steady stream of grumbled complaints over being “forced” to engage in whatever is going on.

You know, I know the consensus is that Lucy and Sarah will be rivals for Jacob, and that’s fully possible, but it also could be that Lucy ends up as something of a test for Sarah’s new attempted approach.
Thing is, they’ve been civil pre-Walky relationship, like I do think Sarah at least can appreciate dealing with someone who takes academics seriously, sort of how she likes Dorothy, but obviously, the Walky stuff put a strain on things, as does Lucy’s naivete. But, Lucy IS showing some more cynicism now, so maybe they’ll meet more in the middle? We’ll see.
Also, Walky and Lucy in the same place will definitely be interesting and a test of what, exactly, Walky and Dorothy are now.
Drama and chaos are common in this comic, but let’s hope that Walky and Lucy are on good terms, I mean, Dorothy finally got rid of a big problem so that now there is more conflict…no thanks
True, Lucy supposedly knows how to go to class and to study for tests. That would endear her to Sarah. In theory. And Jacob. If anyone else in the cast loves to check stupid boxes to achieve the imagined approval of relatives like Lucy, it’s Jacob.
Yeah I know everyone is hoping Lucy means drama, but I’m really hoping Lucy turns up and is like “HAH! I knew we were friends.” to Sarah because she was the one who invited Lucy to the party.
Or that Lucy at least realizes that, while cruel, Sarah wasn’t wrong about how fast the rest of the friendgroup dropped her when she and Walky split up.
Have they dropped her? It’s been what, two or three days since Walky and Lucy broke up, the group doesn’t have to see eachother every day, especially since Lucy lives in a seperate dorm from everyone else.
Also did Walky actually tell anyone aside from Dorothy that he and Lucy have broken up? That could be why nobodies reached out to her in that case.
They broke up Sunday – after church. It’s now Tuesday.
Lucy walked to class with the group yesterday.
It’s really hard to say she’s been dropped at this point.

I don’t know how much of Sarah picking Lucy is because of how few people she actually talks to, or an effort be friendlier and make up for burning her too hard. But I am hoping it’s for the Walky-Dorothy-Lucy drama that’s been predicted.
I know that I will sound too optimistic, but I hope that this conflict is resolved right there, besides, Dorothy went through a bitter moment, give her a break.

i can also lucy being chill more or less about the alcohol aspect, or at least , she wouldn’t narc even if she wouldn’t wanna participate in the ‘usual college antics’ or consider it like a ‘rite of passage’ like some other adolescents do

Someone hands her a cup, she takes a big gulp without thinking, fire shoots out of her ears, she gasps “wait, what IS this stuff???”.
Just as her tongue is loosening up, Dorothy arrives with Walky on her arm.
Interesting times indeed.
Alternate script: Lucy was brought up to use alcohol in moderation. This stuff is stronger than she’s used to, but she’s pacing herself and doing well. Walky is hanging around somewhere. Dorothy appears, grabs Walky in a big smooch. Lucy’s eyes grow as large as a tarsier’s. Walky senses trouble with him at the center, and begins looking frantically for the escape pod.
She roomed with Billie back while she was still drinking, so we know she’s had some exposure.

If it’s trashing the whole floor or something, sure. Or if you’re dealing with a Mary who’s always looking for blackmail material. But a regular college kid you’re thinking of inviting?
No, it hasn’t changed, the people in these comments are just high-strung about some pretty average college experiences.

Lucy not being aware that Walky and she broke up and thinks that Sarah was tormenting her.

Lucy absolutely knows that she and Walky are broken up. She is the one who broke up with him.
It will still probably sting.
Oh for sure it’ll sting. Nobody likes having it confirmed that they were a placeholder for the person their partner actually wanted to date.

It was on panel and everything, right where we could see it. Not all breakups are pretty and tidy, and not all of them even involve the words “I’m breaking up with you” or “We’re through”. It’s just not necessary, even from a narrative standpoint.
It was kind of possible at first. If the next time she’d seen Walky, she’d been like “We need to talk” it wouldn’t have been a huge surprise.
But she didn’t and it’s a lot less likely now.

If nobody gets completely Snicker-faced and calls someone else a cockfucker, this will have been the worst arc in the entire comic. I might have to unleash nuclear war on the entire Midwest, using my nuclear weapons that I definitely have.
If someone does use such an insult, I hope it’s targeted at Becky, just so she can be dumbfounded about how blatantly inaccurate it is.
i don’t know if the alcohol is /that/ strong, but it would be interesting to see varying levels of drunkenness.

Man Sarah really is opening up more these days if she’s admitting Taylor Swift lyrics make her feel something. That’s actually embarrassing Sarah. I’m kind of impressed even if I’m mostly baffled at how the McDonald’s of music did that for you.

I’m not counting “at a boarding school in another state from parents’ home address” as from another state. She’d get in-state tuition I expect.
Real life IU Bloomington has an in-state rate of 54%, 41% other states, 5% international.

I guess for kids, who probably haven’t had their phones long enough to have moved states.
I did start with area codes, didn’t I. So Sal probably would count as from another state. Ruth was 16 when she moved from Canada to the US, so maybe a Canadian number maybe a US one.
Sarah will see Jacob and Lucky’s friendship under another light and think that’s her karma for all the time she was horrible with Lucky.
