i mean, i’ve heard ppl express disappointment with the switch but i’d hope a semipopular switch game would still be good quality compared to the average mobile game. (that said i think i have more hours on pvz2 than anygames i’ve spent actual money on)
My disappointment with the Switch is exactly that every game on it feels like a mobile game with production values that almost rival Nintendo games.
What I’ve seen of the Switch’s Mario and Zelda games are pretty far from feeling like mobile games.
I honestly disagree. Both have gameplay loops made for people with very short attention spans. BotW’s primary gameplay is these microdungeon puzzles scattered about the world. This comes at the expense of large dungeons. Meanwhile Mario gives you a moon literally every minute or two.
Yeah when I think mobile game I’m thinking like fruit ninja or subway surfers, not big expansive open world titles. Am I mistaken about that?
They’ve come quite a way, games like Genshin Impact and such are technically mobile games, and those could definitely be compared to games like BotW and TotK (though I’d still argue that the new Zelda games are slightly more mechanically dense, you could probably run them on top-of-the-line mobile hardware if they were written for it, not emulated of course since that takes way more than the native hardware to make work generally). The recent Pokemon games though, Legends of Arceus and Scarlet&Violet definitely have that lack of polish that could be associated with open world mobile games, but that’s more a Game Freak (the Pokemon studio branch) problem…
I’m under the impression that Bruno’s not talking about scope and size of the game, but rather the gamefeel and design philosophy
I have sadly almost gotten hooked on Evony, which is like if StarCraft were a gatcha game

I think Walky has a laptop and Switch games are not hardware intensive. He can download yuzu and go to town. It’s astonishing how easy it is. He can even play games early if he knows where to search. ToK notoriously leaked like w weeks before its launch.
Tbf reasons for going back to the she’s emulator significantly went down when they remade both Trials of Mana and LiveALive.

Honestly, I’m so used to jokes about how slow this comic’s time-scale is that I’m actually shocked to learn that two full weeks have passed.
It don’t run linearly relative to our own, more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly, timey wimey… stuff.
Honestly, DoA is pretty consistent about the passage of time. I know many other comics that either go at a breakneck pace, or tap dance around explaining how much time has passed in-universe since the first strip (while still acknowledging it passes).

As someone who watched morning cartoons all through the 90s and into the 00s to the point that i had a schedule of which channels had what on saturday and sunday i just wanna say: i disagree.

I’m mostly surprised that Walky doesn’t have one of his own. He likes video games and his parents buy him whatever he wants.
maybe he was more of a ‘watching cartoons’ guy growing up and the occasional small collectible toy but not enough for it to be an expensive hobby like on amber/ethan’s level as opposed to a bunch of gamer stuff (walky streamer in his future is possible tho lol) [if not being just a ‘rambunctious’ kid, even if not athetletic/jockey, spend more of his childhood running around and playing outside as opposed to stereotypical nerdy stuff]

I’m actually a bit surprised Walky doesn’t have a Nintendo. The most recent one is nearly seven years old! Breath of the Wild launched when he was 13! The Walkertons must have a rule against gaming if they haven’t bought their favorite child the most popular and accessible gaming system on the market for Christmas or his birthday in the last six years! Like he clearly has an interest, what happened? Dexter and Monkey Master DVD’s must be fucking expensive!
well, doa is in a slightly diff alternate universe where covid never happened (tho other than ‘daily funny strips’ i imagine it’d be a pain incorporating that into the main story line, even as like a parallel with some other similar outbreak in the college) so not everyone was getting nintendo switches to not go insane during the pandemic lol

Those are actually somewhat rare now. The games even more so. If Sal or Amber having one is even still canon those are collector’s items. Same with the ds/3ds series. It’s much more plausible they’d all be playing on Switch lites. Game preservation is important ya’ll.

Some people have this notion that people need friends of the same gender. It always felt a little segretate-y to me. Like, what’s “guy stuff”, even? I was born vaguely guy-shaped and in the 30 years since then, I’ve never been able to understand what men have that simply mustn’t be discussed in the presence of a woman.
