TBF, I remember the snow hills at my uni sticking around a *long* time. they were at least 99% pure snow, a whole parking lot’s worth plowed into corners (while the grass could easily have a foot of snow on it), so while they got *smaller* over time, the inside stayed insulated.
the black-ice puddles were great to practice your balance on, too.
sure but it’s not like that worked out, doing it as a college course might not necessarily be promising unless you have connections to where it works out in the long run
might be one step above his parents reacting to like “i’m just gonna be a vtuber/streamer and have random strangers pay for my mcnuggets from now on”
Walky should just check the weather app on his phone. Y’know the little sun or cloud icon most people ignore that’s automatically installed on practically every smart device. He’s crying now but that pile is likely to back within a week.
off-topic, is there like a floor plan for their room assignments? I was thinking, “I should remember to vote for bonus strip this month, a minor character, like Meredith. I wonder which room is hers?” And then I spent a long time trying to figure out who’s in which rooms.
Meredith ended up being the only named character in Clark I don’t have a good guess for, lol.
Meredith does not live off-campus, as shown by the linked comic where she is part of Booster’s introduction to the residents of Clark Wing, as also shown by the comic not long after where she is part of the Clark Wing second semester floor meeting, as also shown by this comic where Ruth lists things she’s done for Clark Wing residents for their birthdays, including Meredith: https://www.dumbingofage.com/2017/comic/book-8/02-this-is-the-way-that-we-love/prosecuted/ and as shown generally by every one of her appearances being part of Clark Wing (or at least Read Hall generally) with zero reference to not living there
I am fairly certain someone living off campus doesn’t get someone to buzz them into the building so they can smoke weed on the roof, go to the floor meetings, and use their grody showers.
oo thank you! right handed door. probably no door decorations. Assuming I have the other rooms right, if Jennifer is going from the elevators towards the end of the hall, looking into the rooms well enough not to need to double back, Meredith’s room is somewhere between the showers and Ruth’s. If she checked her own room first (or doubles back for any reason), and is headed back towards the elevator, Meredith’s room might be opposite Ruth’s. Outside chance of to the right of Mary’s room.
And a few days from an unnamed background character (their possible second appearance).
Eventually Lucy will be confident enough in their relationship that when Walky does something like this she just reach over and wallop the bejesus out of him.
This will, of course, lead to him doing it more often.

Yeah. He’s hot. No redeemable personality characteristics to speak of. He needs constant taking care of because he was racist mom’s favorite and he skated through his entire life until calculus. At whicb point, Amber mothered him by hacking his grades. Dorothys relationship with him mostly consisted of dorothy/mom trying to get walky/13yo to clean their room. Lucy feels like a 13yo pretending to ne grown up, so they might actual be a good couple for a bit.
Also several have described him as effeminate. So i guess that makes him safe for women to not just objectify but actually pursue.
Joyce has a thing for big dudes. She screwed up with Jacob so thats destroyed. And now she’s pursuing Joe. But its funny because she has zero thirst for walky and as a result doesnt swoon while he’s being an ass the women who think he’s cute, adorable, etc, are hot for his bod. I think Dorothy described it as ‘caramel’ once.
I dont think Walky has any guy friends. Danny and Joe are buds. Joe and Jacob get along. Walky was roomed with Mike and no one liked Mike. And Booster so far has no visible connections to anyone, friendly or physical or romantic.
It may not be your cup of tea, but some people — like Lucy, hopefully — enjoy this sort of exaggerated, over-the-top humor. He can definitely be insufferable at times, and a lot of other characters treat him as such, but this isn’t nearly one of his worst offenses.
Yeah, some people react really badly to pretty mild stuff from Walky. He’s playing here, not hurting anyone. Don’t take it seriously.
Even most of the worst things he’s done have been failed attempts at lightening the mood and he’s definitely shown he can step up to be more serious when he needs to. He just prefers not to.
Another character where there’s a lot going on beneath the surface that it’s easy to miss.
“some people react really badly to pretty mild stuff from Walky.”
My reaction to Walky today is meh.
Its more an overall view of him.
He’s lazy, sloppy, nerdy, covered in ketchep, yet girls find him hot? That hilarious.
He enjoys immense privilege, but few hold it against him.
doesnt work a job or in class, but is successful,
He eats 50 chicken nuggets and doesnt gain weight
Plays video games, watches cartoon, but never misses homework?
His first and only struggle was calc and Amber hacked his grades, but he didnt know so he doesnt even have to feel guilty for cheating.
His only other struggle was being kidnapped and dealing with mike’s death which all the main characters went through.
And he has a mouth that in real life would probably get him pummeled once in a while, yet he remains unscathed. Asher, for example, who helped kidnap the main characters and got a dirty cop to murder Amber’s father, would not have let Walky slug him without removing Walkys femurs.
He lands as a wish fulfillment character for a certain segment of the audience. Tvtropes include “Audience surrogaate”, “born lucky”, “chick magnet”, “daydream believer”, “escapist character”, “never gets fat”, “so beautiful its a curse” (especially when his hair got just the right length but wore dirty clothes)
The hygiene would be an issue for me, but it’s indicated he’s physically attractive (and drawn in a way that implies that for a highly stylized cartoon) and smart, so it doesn’t seem that odd girls would find him attractive?
Not sure why “nerdy” is listed as a thing that is strange for girls to find attractive. Nerdy girls exist. And we often like nerdy guys (it was a requirement for me when I was dating), because, y’know, they share our interests.
Yeah of all the Walky moments to complain about this strip seems to benign? I laughed. And then cringed reading the above comment calling him insufferable and unlikeable for…jokingly being dramatic about a snow hill melting. Because I do stuff like that.
Do people really find this kind of joke that annoying? Or do they think it’s supposed to be serious, like he’s actually truly catastrophically depressed over melting snow? It’s pretty clear Walky uses humor to deflect things (negative feelings, awkwardness, silence) or just as a method of communication.
So taking him too seriously is probably a mistake most of the time. It’s like when someone does a dramatic “noooo, I have been betrayed!” when their cat decides to leave their lap to sit in their friend’s/spouse’s instead. Surely lots of other people do things like this too? Or is my sense of humor way weirder than I thought?
Walky is sometimes funny. In like very small doses before he crosses that line into being obnoxious.
I think that any strip that’s focused on just him is going to be a weak one because being a manchild is sort of his only character facet and it gets old fast.
The heights difference in the last two panels totally confused me. At first I thought the tall girl was Sarah. Took me a while to realize that Walky is kneeling.
Also: looking forward to meeting a completely new character – I don’t think we’ve met anybody from Shortpacked-Lucy’s family, or have we?
This actually happened to my kid. He likes to take his GI Joe figures out into the park and other places, and set them up to take pictures. One day, we had a pile of snow in the parking lot next door, he came up with an idea for “Snow Job,” the GI Joe character, he goes out to the lot with his camera and figures… and it had been warm all day and the pile was gone.
I enjoy goofy humor sometimes including fake dramatics in real life. I also have redeeming qualities and have other modes of communication. Walky is just 24/7 obnoxious, which is less funny and more grating (like Becky).
disassembled my omega prime, leaving an intact bottom half, and @toyboxcomix.com was like "hey you should put the top half of armada prime on that" and i did and I made Omegada Prime
(aka ohmigerd prime)
Just wildly flailing his arms, randomly repeating things he has heard that made people laugh, utterly unable to discern *why* they made them laugh, hoping beyond hope he will accidentally hit the target

there's this thing in journalism that really gets me mad. the ben smiths of the world will look at you like you're crazy for simply stating what is actually happening all the way up to the moment they report on it themselves with wide eyed wonder, and then its their story that goes megaviral.
that a bunch of billionaires have been irreversibly brainwormed by getting addicted to a glorified chat room adds credence to my theory that spending too much time on IRC as a child acts as a powerful inoculant to the worst impulses of an escalatory group dynamic
what do you mean dr wu is making a marvel-style broadside?????????

Big fan of the "low-powered villain of high-powered hero" especially if the hero got major power boosting later. I have a soft spot for all those lame X-Men villains from the original run like El Tigre or the Locust or Mekano or the Cobolt Man. None of them would last five seconds today.

Walky wanted to melt into gravel and exhaust?
I’ve had days like that to be fair
Big Mood
You don’t want to become a pile of gravel and exhaust?
I think he wanted to do stuff on the snow hill, so he is disappointed that it has melted into a pile of gravel and exhaust.
He mostly just stood on it.
I think he wanted to do the top emo lines from every movie he’s ever seen.
Willis, I thought there were to be no more tragic character deaths.
Snow hill is like Frosty, he’ll be back next winter.
This wasn’t a character death. Just a dramatic meltdown.
How many Internets have you won now?
Does Walky not know how snow works?
He watched Frosty the Snowman once as a kid. Once.
Luckily, years of therapy erased the experience from his mind. He’s likely to have a relapse if he ever hears the voice of Jackie Vernon, though.
He gets a sense of general malaise when he hears Jimmy Durante.
Snow is obviously wizardry.
…. or maybe sorcery?
Witchcraft?
Dammit, which one was it…
Oh, right! THAWMATURGY!
Day saved.
Knowing the painful truth and accepting it are two very different things.
Just like every time I get to the end of catching up on this comic, I knew it was coming, but I still remain saddened and unprepared nonetheless! XD
Can we all hold a moment of silence for the snow hill? Truly a tragedy has befallen our heroes.
f
(Plays slow, minor key piano cover of That Kate Bush Song on the hacked Muzak)
Nooo, last time we had a moment of silence, two couples broke up
It’s obvious that the snow pile is in witness protection!
Only one of those was directly because of the moment of silence though
F
I remember the winter of 2015, one of Boston’s snow farms didn’t completely melt until May or June.
Nope, I was wrong.
It stuck around until JULY 14th.

Walky is busy keeping me from romanticizing the weather up home.
YOU MANIACS. YOU MELTED IT DOWN. DAMN YOU. DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL.
And then the Apes melted it down too.
And it looks like some kind of bird, and then Giraffes?
Just a half giraffe.
Girhalf.
and the stains on your knees
I guess if someone on the cast has seen Planet of the Apes, it’d be him.
More likely Futurama and/or the Simpsons since they’ve both done parodies of that scene.

Fun fact about that movie: the monkeys weren’t really riding horses. They were just acting!
That also wasn’t the real Statue of Liberty! She wanted too much in residuals, so they hired a lookalike.
Walky missed his calling. Shoulda majored in drama.
…That woulda REALLY pissed his mom off!
Didn’t she actually try to make an actor of him as a child? That mouse thing?
sure but it’s not like that worked out, doing it as a college course might not necessarily be promising unless you have connections to where it works out in the long run
might be one step above his parents reacting to like “i’m just gonna be a vtuber/streamer and have random strangers pay for my mcnuggets from now on”
“Walkerton.” Now that’s a name I’ve not heard in a long time…
(side note, but the storyline navigation menu on the IW! site is wildly out of order.)
Yeah, why’s Shortpacked! at the top of the list?
Walky should just check the weather app on his phone. Y’know the little sun or cloud icon most people ignore that’s automatically installed on practically every smart device. He’s crying now but that pile is likely to back within a week.
The last time we saw it
He can’t run up that hill anymore, but he can run up the road to McNutt
It’s generally not a good idea to climb those snow heaps anyway…
This fuckin goober, I love him.

And he’s all yours, Lucy
She’s just trying to bring up the mental picture she took of his abs
My eyes are closed.
Why did Walky choose this hill to die on?
It was there.
Better to die on a hill than in a ditch?
And suddenly, Lucy is wondering if the (potential) Walkerdick is worth it.
I think this is quite tame compared to some of the other nonsense she’s had to put up with by now.
Turns out Walky is me when the snow melts. XD
Eventually Lucy will be confident enough in their relationship that when Walky does something like this she just reach over and wallop the bejesus out of him.

Probably more. But holy cow, walky.
I disagree. I find him quite sufferable. And relatable.
I used to like him, but he’s ended up as a pretty “meh” character for me. He’s fine, I guess?
Maybe that was mean to say. Sorry Walky
Not in DoA, but her brother (Lyle) showed up a couple of times in SP!
I feel like a punchline about a character looking sad should probably include that character’s face.
I think the punchline is Lucy realizing how much Walky cares about inanimate objects versus her.
I already have a bad feeling.
It is still winter, is it not. I am sure there will be more snow storms, resulting in a rebirth for Mr. Snowhill.
I enjoy goofy humor sometimes including fake dramatics in real life. I also have redeeming qualities and have other modes of communication. Walky is just 24/7 obnoxious, which is less funny and more grating (like Becky).
