If David Doty means what they said– last thing he said to Mike, rather than about Mike– it would be, “Goodbye forever, Mike.” Which, maybe unfortunate, but in context, pretty fair.
I could see him going either way on remembering that. It wasn’t a hugely different type of interaction than what he was used to from Mike, so it could just blend into his general impression of what Mike was like.
