I think he’d still be 100% in favour of them banging but probably (hopefully) much less in an objectification way and more “hey go have good sex and good fun and don’t get anything”. I can’t see Joe, even a Joe who learns to be vulnerable and let sex and social interactions be truly meaningful, ever not being supportive of non-toxic sexual encounters. His joke about Danny and Ethan having a date was “man if I was serious I’d be concerned about you having a good and safe time” and I think that’s an attitude he’ll probably always have?
Yeah, this. Joe thinks it’s great when his friends have emotional intimacy that also includes fun sexy times. He just thinks it’s dangerous for *him* to have those two combined.
They’re all likely within a year of each other, but it’s unlikely Joe and Amber were born at the exact same minute. Even with twins one is older. I’ve seen exactly 0 indication of who was born before who.
I mean if this were the porn version of DoA I could see that happening. These two definitely seem like they’d feed enough into each other’s bullshit to accidentally get themselves into a threesome.
Ideally the friend is also the sexual partner, imo.
In Joyce’s case… I don’t know that Liz is close enough to be a friend (despite Joyce going all in, as she does, and also being one of those people who wants to be friends with almost everyone). I don’t think she’s moral support material, at least right now.
Her other female friends wouldn’t work. She’s put Dorothy and Sal on very high (albeit different) pedestals, so their relationships aren’t really even. Becky is a nope. B- Jennifer (I keep wanting to call her Billifer help) is far from the nurturing type imo and would be a terrible support partner. Sarah is too protective. Ethan would probably be too focused on enjoying the dude time himself to worry about Joyce (and with their history that’s awkward af).
The people Joyce would get best moral support from are the people she’s actually potentially be having her first time with imo- a more matured Joe, or Jacob. Jacob, probably a perfect sexual partner for those with less experience or confident- he comes across as patient, caring, nurturing but also wanting to be treated as a person rather than objectified. Joe, with a deep connection and a little more growth, I think could be similar.
But that’s my musings/ramblings and also I’m totally in support of more threesomes. Not in a creeper way, I just wish sex was less taboo and a more viable way of spending time with someone without it being a big deal.
I’ve been wondering if they’ll run into Joyce’s other friends at some point and in an attempt to avoid being seen and have Liz reveal all of Joyce’s shenanigan speak, Joyce will push Liz up against a wall and make out with her (since she’d probably pick a tropsey bad plan under pressure) only to have Liz have a vaguely mirrored version of Joyce’s line to Becky from when she kissed her.
I mean, on the one hand she apparently doesn’t know what an “edible” looks like (assuming it doesn’t look like a vitamin, which it might do for all I know). On the other hand, she took it, not knowing it was just a vitamin, which is considerably more dedication to the role than I’d have.
I have *not* had them, but I’ve watched people have them (Canadian eh). Good quality edibles look like any other good quality gummy. Standard gummy shape, more transparent rather than translucent (light and stuff is more visible through them), and they’re much softer than standard cheap gummies (as is any good quality gummy). Assuming Joe is also particular about his vitamin gummies, they may be up to snuff to pass the gummy-look-alike for sure, edibles *certainly* are. The big problem is, ya know, taking them out of a *vitamin jar* right in /front/ of Liz. Of course that didn’t seem to slow her down at all. Placebo effect and pseudo-bad-assery and all.
I’m not Canadian, but I have had Canadian gummy bear edibles. They look and taste exactly like regular gummy bears. I didn’t notice any weed flavor at all.
The Michigan edibles in the form of gummies that I’ve had are squares and have a distinct weed flavor. I’ve had some Illinois non-gummy edibles, but not Illinois gummies, so I don’t have a basis to compare the gummies, the non-gummies had no weed flavor. (They’re in Indiana, so the Michigan and Illinois varieties would probably be the easiest for them to get.)
And vitamin gummies are going to taste like vitamins. Liz may not be familiar with weed gummies, but it’s likely that she would instantly recognize the flavor of children’s chewable vitamins.
I think everybody is missing the distinct possibility that she knows damn well it is not an edible, and she just knows that casually asking a college-aged dude she just met to dig into his stash will ruffle her sister, which she clearly loves doing.
Like, if he produced a legit edible, she would have been happy and taken it. But she wasn’t going to ruin it by pointing out that it isn’t actually one. She does think of her sister as a total square, probably – and Joe had to tell her it was a vitamin gummy, she didn’t immediately say that punchline to him, he said it to her. If the joke was that it was that obvious, I think Sarah probably would have made it.
Like… Yeah, “I’d Die For You” was… let’s go with Problematic for Joyce, due to Carol saying it mere days after Toedad screaming it with a rifle in his hand…
But on the other, Joyce has maybe had time to heal from that, or she might only feel the sweet sentiments coming from Sarah.
Then again, I could also see it going VERY WRONG in a “OH GOD I AM THE QUEEN OF THE BRAIN PARASITES AND I MUST SECLUDE MYSELF FORTHWITH.
I suspect Joyce would recognize that killing/dying for Joyce or Liz on Sarah’s part is limited to active threats to them (ie, Ryan,) but while rational brain likely knows that… trauma brain almost certainly still associates it with ‘I know better than you what’s best for you, and I’m not afraid to hurt you in the process or martyr myself for what I perceive is what’s best for you,’ which is one of the things that really started breaking Joyce’s faith. Once she heard it from Ross and then Carol, she couldn’t take comfort in Jesus doing the same for humanity.
Of course anyone with any idea about that kind of thing is going to dodge that arrow because nice guy has rather… negative implications about how nice that guy actually is.
Also, there are nice guys and gals as they are, still nice, and the meme-able trend of ‘nice’ guys and gals … who aren’t.
I think the point of Joe’s shirt is simply that he figures it doesn’t point at *him*. I look forward to it ending up on a floor (or Joyce), and pointing at Joe.
Based on a bonus comic from Patreon, I remember those one guys, Ken/M.Bison/Ryu/Whatever that dude that had a crush on Lucy from Shortpacked and his roomie from Shortpacked (always has eyes closed, has a sexy hoodie), are to the left of Walky and Booster, and I think they count too.
The guy has to consent to the bang, as does all parties, so the guy is still an active participant. All involved parties are banging each other.
If you want to remove the consent aspect from banging then this gets very dark very fast but by ancient Greek God standards – being non-consensually banged is cause for harsh harsh punishment. So there is a precedent.
Also, the Goddess of Love and Beauty being in a committed relationship with an ace God…kind of makes sense? Like, literally everybody would be in a relationship with Aphrodite, she’s supernaturally, perfectly beautiful. Impossibly enrapturing. So you could take the angle that, like, the only person who could love her entirely divorced from lust or her bounty of power, would be someone on whom her allure ultimately fails. Hephaestus may be the only one on the pantheon, from Aphrodite’s perspective, who ever could love her, beyond loving her beauty.
Foreplay really depends on the partners and what they want.
Also, foreplay *can* be entirely verbal/mental. Or oral. Toe-based. Elbows/shoulders. Back of the knee, or the ears. Fingers really aren’t *that* necessary although they are handy. If you can get inside your partners head, you can have them aroused, writhing, dripping (male or female) and begging for you from 188 sound-minutes away.
Part of me is starting to think Liz might be fronting just as much as Joyce if she can’t tell the difference between what’s essentially and adult Flintstone’s chewable and actually edible cannabis.
That was… actually really sweet of Joe. In his way to point out that Sarah absolutely loves both of them as sisters when I think she tries very hard to pretend that she doesn’t.
Not until Liz knows that. Also Sarah herself really REALLY is *not* into Joe, so that may nullify the effect on Liz. (if Liz’s theftian proclivities are restricted to familial, rather than female, associated flavours)
I’m like Chidi at the dot in Bearimy, this broke me. Joe just admitted he has real feelings for Joyce to Sarah. That’s big, cause if Sarah can handle it without killing him, maybe he doesn’t have to be afraid of being his dad anymore.
I think this is Joe being a Joe and pointing out Sarah loves both as sisters, at the only opportunity he’s going to get. He can’t very well say that straight-forward, that’d be 100% not Joe Coolguy. But who knows.
Classic Joe wants to bang anything that’s female. Even after their disastrous date, Joe would probably have been interested (at least on a physical level) in a “one night stand” with Joyce at some point in the first term. That’s the type of guy Sarah thinks joe is.
Him talking about “which sister” after Sarah said “don’t bang my sis” doesn’t necessarily mean Joe is expressing a romantic interest… To Sarah he could have just been expressing a continued physical interest. . (That’s assuming she didn’t just view it as a dig at Sarah’s sisterly instinct.)
It’s not like it’s a secret from the audience that Joe likes Joyce in a romantic way. That’s been evident since at least the stuff with Jacob and Joyce. It’s just shocking that he’d do anything that could potentially lead to him letting himself be in a loving relationship. And telling Sarah, which could easily backfire, is a risky move, and therefore an important one.
Yes the audience knows joe has a crush on joyce… I am just not sure sarah would assume that from joe’s comment (as opposed to just assuming joe=sleaze bag
Joyce: “J-Joe, we’re sharing your benefits. Which you are totally a friend with, so shut the shit up. C’mon, Liz, let’s, let’s totally use him. For sex.”
Joe: “what is happening D:”
Liz mentioned a stepmother (or plural? There was discussion on whether it was plural or not on the page) and keeping her placated with the stuff she shares online, so for the stepmother to have any meaning I’m guessing she partook in raising Liz. I could be wrong but I’m guessing at least Liz was more raised by her father. Could be that Sarah was more raised by her mother or her father or both (or neither, as her grandmother is the only relative I remember her mentioning before this storyline).
I just wanted to say today’s strip is great. Seeing Sarah be upfront about her relation to Liz, and Joe’s insight about how she feels about Joyce, it’s just excellent character writing. Also, panel 5 is just the cherry on the cake.
This is probably the best conversation Sarah and Joe have had since the beginning! I love seeing how Sarah feels about her little sisters ♡. I love seeing how Joe is understanding everything she tells him so well ♡. I wonder if Joe will talk to Sarah about what it’s like for him to have suddenly become a stepbrother and how he feels about Amber.
His deep insecurity in one area forced him to get really secure in other areas, to protect the actual insecurity by taking blows to the self-image that he could actually stomach. So he’s hyper-mature at handling some of his fuck-ups and relationship garbage, but is completely under-developed at dealing with the underlying causes of his problems. He can be the campus douche-bro garbage fire because of “the list” incident, and swallow that seemingly easily as a matter of course; but, it’s because he’d already decided internally that he was an irredeemable piece of garbage. When it comes to actually trying to fix himself and change that, though? He regresses real bad, and isn’t competent to actually process the emotions that are traumatizing him, which is why he’d so avoidant to doing it.
Liz /pretty/ clearly has two eyebrows in panels 3 and 4 a couple days back. OTOH if this is a game, then they could both actually be a wandering mono-brow (uni-brow?) wrapping through her hair. … I suppose.
I always find the way half siblings are written in this comic. Like I have a “half sister” and a “half brother” I’ve never once called either my half anything they are just my sister and brother. Do others talk like this? is having a single different parent realllly that important to people? I under stood Amber she was trying to distance herself from her father and all ties but I dont see why that would matter to Sarah?
In addition to what Spencer said, I have a half-brother and a half-sister, and I’ll switch between referring to them as such and referring to them as my brother and sister. I think life experience is a big factor there as well; if I had grown up with them, I might just think of them as siblings, or if I had even grown up around them. As it was, they were both grown adults by the time I was born. In this strip, Sarah mentions she and Liz “didn’t actually live together all that long,” which may be part of why she’ll occasionally (when irritated) refer to her as a half-sister.
WELL THAT WENT THERE HUH
…so which is it
Joe nailed it one.
Which one?
I’ve been told that any hole is a goal.
OMD Nailed it *in* one. smh
Joe 1, Sarah 0.
More like Joe 0, Sarah 2 if we’re scoring on little sisters they’re allowed to have.
Actually it is 1 to 2 in Sarah’s favor, after all Joe has Amber(despite their lack of sibling-ry.)
Do we know Joe and Amber’s relative ages? I suppose either way she’s the little sister heightwise.
I just assumed they were about the same and it didn’t count.
…Though I now suddenly want Sarah and Amber to bond over being big sisters to someone annoyingly cheerful with a triangular smile.
Sarah: Wait… if Joe is your brother…
Amber: And Joyce is your sister…
Sarah: Does that make us…
Amber:… Family?
Amber & Sarah: URRRRRGGHHH
Sarah: I guess we can…
Amber: …Be annoyed about it…
Amber & Sarah: TOGETHER
Start of comic Joe would have been 100% in favor of Sarah and Amber banging.
Current Joe I don’t really know although I can’t imagine him going ultra protective over Sarah and Amber banging. Hopefully less creepy about it.
Amber is younger than Joe, right?
I… can’t think of any landmark to use for determining that.
To the extent that they interact like siblings, Joe tries more for the false-maturity older siblings do and Amber’s more eager to get away with stuff.
They all started as freshmen at the same time. Along with Danny, Joe’s best friend. I’d say they’re all the same age.
They’re all likely within a year of each other, but it’s unlikely Joe and Amber were born at the exact same minute. Even with twins one is older. I’ve seen exactly 0 indication of who was born before who.
cake consumption is a metric for measuring youth.
It doesn’t work when you’re older because then you realize you can buy cake WHENEVER YOU WANT.
It also doesn’t work when you’re younger, because some people get invited to more birthday celebrations than others.
Or MAKE YOUR OWN CAKE
AND EAT IT TOO
Wel, Joe is bigger so he is older. It is how this works, right?
Amber has a bigger butt, though.
Joe’s been around since Roomies!, but Amber debuted in Shortpacked! in 2005…
Maybe one of their birthdays is after September 1 so they had to wait a year, like Sarah.
I’m assuming he has a couple months on her based on nothing
Also, is this a Protective Siblings Group now?
Alternatively, Sarah just likes killing people.
Enjoying killing people doesn’t preclude being a (over) protective sibling.
Joe is currently zero for two on Sarah’s little sisters. For how long though? That’s the question…..For how long?
Straight from 0/2 to 2/2 in one event!
… Keep it up Yotomoe
Joyce desperatly trying to look cool until she ends up in a threesome?!
I mean if this were the porn version of DoA I could see that happening. These two definitely seem like they’d feed enough into each other’s bullshit to accidentally get themselves into a threesome.
There are worse ways to experience your first time than with your friend being there offering moral support, I guess.

So Becky kills Liz. Interresting. Eeeeenteresting. Go on…
Joe cutting right to the heart of the matter.
it’s a surprisingly good question.
Joe has proven himself to be rather astute on multiple occasions.
Okay, now I’m sure Liz is putting up an act for Joyce herself.
It does appear that she didn’t share with Joyce. On the other hand, I’m also glad she didn’t try pushing it on Joyce (yet?)

My gummy vitamins just taste like gummies. They also don’t taste non-gummy children’s chewable vitamins.
So you’re saying they’re 😎 Yumi?
I have CBD-enhanced vitamins – okay, no THC, but technically they’re edibles that come in a vitamin jar automatically!
Given that first panel I wonder if Joyce is putting up more of an act than we thought – and if it’s aimed at Sarah.
“I’d die for her.”
Sarah, please never tell Joyce that
ouch.
Oof, yeah.
I.. Kinda want to see the fallout?
Like… Yeah, “I’d Die For You” was… let’s go with Problematic for Joyce, due to Carol saying it mere days after Toedad screaming it with a rifle in his hand…
But on the other, Joyce has maybe had time to heal from that, or she might only feel the sweet sentiments coming from Sarah.
Then again, I could also see it going VERY WRONG in a “OH GOD I AM THE QUEEN OF THE BRAIN PARASITES AND I MUST SECLUDE MYSELF FORTHWITH.
It wasn’t even mere days if I remember right, it was later in the same day.
Yep. End of that storyline. That evening.
Does the “I’d kill for you” make it better or worse
Besides it’s much more in-character that Sarah would kill for Joyce.
Why not both?
See it’s genius, because Sarah can only kill him once.
“Nah, I’ll find a way to murder you twice.”
And that’s when Joe was murdered.
The Nice Guy arrow isn’t ever going to point at anyone, is it.
New arrow-related running gag, to go with This Side Up?
It’s pointing to Batman.
I’d laugh if it’s actually pointing in the direction of Danny. Or someone that’s actually a nice guy.
That was his original intent. When the shirt first debuted he tried to get Danny to stand so the arrow was pointing to him.
Of course anyone with any idea about that kind of thing is going to dodge that arrow because nice guy has rather… negative implications about how nice that guy actually is.
Yes but that sort of social awareness is something Joe stuggles with
Also, there are nice guys and gals as they are, still nice, and the meme-able trend of ‘nice’ guys and gals … who aren’t.
I think the point of Joe’s shirt is simply that he figures it doesn’t point at *him*. I look forward to it ending up on a floor (or Joyce), and pointing at Joe.
Aren’t Walky and Booster their next door neighbors on that side? Also I’m sorry if I’ve totally fucked up their name.
Cuz Walky can be a mess but he also definitely counts as nice, overall, so I’d say it’s accurate.
I don’t know. I don’t think much of he layout for the Boy’s wing has ever been established like the Girl’s wing layout has been
Based on a bonus comic from Patreon, I remember those one guys, Ken/M.Bison/Ryu/Whatever that dude that had a crush on Lucy from Shortpacked and his roomie from Shortpacked (always has eyes closed, has a sexy hoodie), are to the left of Walky and Booster, and I think they count too.
Maybe it’s so we know where ghost Mike is standing.
On the opposite side of him?
“Oh no, I’ve got Found Family. Damn it.”
Sarah’s practically a Fast & Furious protagonist.
Domtorelli_Who has entered the chat
Just be safe and don’t bang either of them.
Joe: Does Not Compute.
What if in a twist of fate, they both bang Joe. Why does the guy have to instigate the bang?
The guy has to consent to the bang, as does all parties, so the guy is still an active participant. All involved parties are banging each other.
If you want to remove the consent aspect from banging then this gets very dark very fast but by ancient Greek God standards – being non-consensually banged is cause for harsh harsh punishment. So there is a precedent.
Harsh harsh punishment, which is why every greek god gets away with it at least twice.
Hephaestus reputedly never consummated his marriage to Aphrodite, and never cheated on her. I think he might have been Ace, or “married to his work”.
Also, the Goddess of Love and Beauty being in a committed relationship with an ace God…kind of makes sense? Like, literally everybody would be in a relationship with Aphrodite, she’s supernaturally, perfectly beautiful. Impossibly enrapturing. Hephaestus may be the only one on the pantheon, from Aphrodite’s perspective, who ever could love her, beyond loving her beauty.
Not very committed to the relationship: Aphrodite cheated with Ares, Anchises, and Adonis, just to list the “A”s.
Joe with no hesitation.
Don’t even lay a finger on her, Joe. 😛
It’s not his finger he’s thinking about laying on her.
Then he’s a pretty terrible lay, really. Foreplay matters.
Omg he broke her! Her face! Her face haha
FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE
FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE
Well that’s an old DoA meme. Also, FAAAAAAAAAAAAACCEEE
Stop the faces!
Part of me is starting to think Liz might be fronting just as much as Joyce if she can’t tell the difference between what’s essentially and adult Flintstone’s chewable and actually edible cannabis.
Liz is probably ahead of Joyce but that isn’t saying much.
Either that or she’s playing into Joyce’s game for fun
JoJo is a great ship. That is it that’s all I have to say.
“You expected DIO, but it was me, A Jojo Reference!”
Last panel Sarah is divine.
The one in the Elvis song.
That was… actually really sweet of Joe. In his way to point out that Sarah absolutely loves both of them as sisters when I think she tries very hard to pretend that she doesn’t.
That, or he’s thinking romantic thoughts about Joyce and wants to know if she’s included in that threat.
Could be both. I read it as both tbh.
Same.
Joe is a pretty astute character, so yeah, same.
It’s definitely both. Willis is legit a very good dialogue writer. I never presume stuff like that isn’t completely intentional.
Can we get some Sarah approval of Joe/Joyce? (Probably not)
I THOUGHT she’d approve of how they are focusing on each other and not pestering her much, but apparently she’s gone mother hen instead.
I find it hard to imagine Sarah approving of Joe getting with anyone she really cares about. Though you never know.
Yes.
a
Sarah is sending mixed signals on the “bang my little sister” front!
…AAAAAAAAAAND, [ZING].
Okay, so Joe is now off-limits to Liz by fiat of Sarah.
… she’s definitely gonna go for him now.
Not until Liz knows that. Also Sarah herself really REALLY is *not* into Joe, so that may nullify the effect on Liz. (if Liz’s theftian proclivities are restricted to familial, rather than female, associated flavours)
“YES”.
I’m like Chidi at the dot in Bearimy, this broke me. Joe just admitted he has real feelings for Joyce to Sarah. That’s big, cause if Sarah can handle it without killing him, maybe he doesn’t have to be afraid of being his dad anymore.

Not necessarily.

Aw, that’s so sweet!
I wanna draw more Joyce n’ Liz later. What’s some good (and saucy) ideas for tomorrow?
Topless pillow fight.
Naked Twister.
Truth or Dare(gone horribly right.)
Or everyone’s favorite game, “leave the room so we can exploremeach other.”
“You need to leave.”</A? — Joyce, directed at Joe, as she and Liz get into a little tribbing session…
Sarah is allowed to stay to provide coaching as needed.
Joyce: “J-Joe, we’re sharing your benefits. Which you are totally a friend with, so shut the shit up. C’mon, Liz, let’s, let’s totally use him. For sex.”
Joe: “what is happening D:”
This gives such castle anthrax vibes…. Then again I did watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail a few days back.
If you want something saucy, why not something with sandwiches?
Or corndogs?
What else can sauce go on?
Chocolate sauce or maple syrup and pancakes or waffles?
Them sharing an “edible” without hands
There’s edible and there’s as you said, “edible,” the trick is to not confuse which one you masticate.
So were Sarah and Liz not raised together? They have the same mom, so Sarah’s dad got custody of her I guess.
Yeah, that changes things. Not sure what Sarah’s family history looks like now, just as we’re starting to get some hints.
Damn, first Mike, now Joe. I can’t believe Willis is gonna be killing off another major character so soon.
Yes, Sarah, Joe has noticed.
Aww, Joe, you’re one crude dude.
It’s family.
Love ain’t all positive.
It’s weird and powerful.
WILLIS, YOU MAGNIFICENT BASTARD
This is probably the best conversation Sarah and Joe have had since the beginning! I love seeing how Sarah feels about her little sisters ♡. I love seeing how Joe is understanding everything she tells him so well ♡. I wonder if Joe will talk to Sarah about what it’s like for him to have suddenly become a stepbrother and how he feels about Amber.
joe i would like to point out that it is rude to destroy a woman with an orbital space laser
like worth but damn
damn
Oh wow, just hit her with that orbital strike.
Bout time you give the fuck you a rest Sarah, its old.
This is why I like Joe so much. He’s really secure. It’s probably not the first time he’s had this kind of conversation.
In some ways, in other ways, he is really really REALLY insecure.
And for those keeping track, Liz’s missing eyebrow apparently wandered on to Joe’s face in panel two, but it’s gone in 4 & 5.
Liz /pretty/ clearly has two eyebrows in panels 3 and 4 a couple days back. OTOH if this is a game, then they could both actually be a wandering mono-brow (uni-brow?) wrapping through her hair. … I suppose.
I have been adoring the Sarah faces in these last few strips. Truly some A+ expressions.
Yeah
I always find the way half siblings are written in this comic. Like I have a “half sister” and a “half brother” I’ve never once called either my half anything they are just my sister and brother. Do others talk like this? is having a single different parent realllly that important to people? I under stood Amber she was trying to distance herself from her father and all ties but I dont see why that would matter to Sarah?
find it strange*
Sarah only calls Liz her half-sister when she’s mad.
Depends on how close they are. Some aren’t that close and want to make that lack of closeness clear.
this is
so sweet
wtf
joe you sap
Joe with the hard-hitting questions.
