You don’t always gotta be shown Star Wars, I’ve learned. Nobody in the family showed it to my niece yet somehow on the walk to school in second grade she was humming an iconic song from the movies! One of her favorites now, I think…
I was under the impression that it was Darth Plagueis who did that. Even if he did it using his own DNA, that would make Anakin no biological relation to Palpatine.
**my wife glances over while I read the comic**
My Wife: “Leslie looks a lot like Joyce at a distance.”
Me: **looks**
**looks again**
My gods – she does.
Is it just my imagination? Or does Leslie look younger, happier, standing straighter, more powerful? Last semester she seemed so … weighed down, tired??
Me: *reads comment*
Me: *moves phone further than 3 inches from face*
Leslie: *indistinguishable blur*
Joyce: *indistinguishable blur*
Me: *forgot I wasn’t wearing my glasses*
I was going to say “until they meet in the hallway after class” but c’mon, there’s no way that Robin’s going to wait until class is over to start pestering Leslie and knowing her she’ll do it in the most disruptive way possible.
Don’t they usually run courses once per year? Even if they have to split the course up into multiple sections because of size/time, they usually keep it semester-contained. So Leslie would be teaching something different this semester and then do Gender Studies 101 again at the start of the next academic year.
for a “101” AKA initial college course like this? It’s not only every semester, it’s most likely offered online and during winter and summer breaks…both colleges I attended were like this, especially for classes that are required electives for humanities/sociology/sciences/psychology electives
There’s usually at least one section for most 101 courses in the spring/102 courses in the fall because of people who apply to start in the spring semester.
Possible, but it’s never been done without notice before. And only done once at that – skipped over a couple days within a storyline to get Walky his pajama jeans.
I fail to see how this could possibly end badly. Thought this ship had sailed buts its done a nifty about turn and sailed right back into port. MIGHT make up for Willis having Ruth and Billie break up.
Ship? What ship? Isn’t Leslie dating someone? I don’t remember her name but I do remember she was black and kind of unpleasant or that people didn’t like her in the comments. Did they breakup leaving room for Robin to slide in or something?
Thanks! I actually did an archive dive cause it was bothering me. I guess there wasn’t much evidence there that they were in an extended long term thing and not a brief fling. So I guess there’s plausible room for Robin not that it would really matter to Robin at all.
I do kind of like the Robin and Leslie ship more even though I think Robin and Anna are both really unlikeable. Mainly because Anna’s just a boring side character with a pretty one note gimmick and I like more of the story potential you can get when more established characters hook up. Leslie deserves someone she can have a story with.
I kind of hope Dana sees Sarah’s intervention in her depression that way in due time. Raidah and company weren’t actually doing anything for her but pretending nothing was wrong.
Or rather, they saw what Dana wanted them to see, and refused to acknowledge that Sarah who saw her in private could possibly know better because they wanted her to be getting better.
The first 30 minutes of class are just going to be Leslie’s hot takes on all of the Star Wars projects Disney announced. Is 30 different Star Wars shows too many? How does she feel about Ashoka Tano’s solo series? They’re about to find out!
Personally, I feel like Lucas’ original proposal for a nine-movie ‘triple trilogy’, if you will, was already overkill on a planetary level. But I accept the fact that in today’s world, if you’ve got a money-maker you ride that horse until you wear its legs down to stumps.
I thought ol’ George had Star Wars (later titled Episode IV: A New Hope) written, but when it (and demand for a sequel) took off he retconned a few major plot points to stretch the plot out. (For example, Darth Vader wasn’t originally Luke’s father. Obi-Wan’s “what I told you was true, from a certain point of view” from ROTJ is plot Bondo covering up that retcon.)
Disney saw all the plans for new Star Trek shows, and their eyes did that cartoon giant dollar signs thing, and they started screaming LEEROY JENNNNNNKINNNNNS!
I’m just going to sit back and enjoy all the new things it will now be edgy and cool to hate.
Haven’t seen Lower Decks or Discovery, but what I’ve seen of Picard was pretty good. I’ve never been the biggest fan of Enterprise, or the TOS era in general to be honest.
I just want more TNG/DS9/VOY era stories, dammit! Will Q show up to pester Picard again? Is Harry still an Ensign? Did Wesley ever shut up? These questions need answers!
Wesley was a warp engine designer in Nemesis. His peregrination with The Traveler with gave him massive insights into warp engines and alternate planes of reality. This may have resulted in his creating a drive like the Starslip where you just change to a reality where you are already at your destination.
Lower Decks is actually pretty fun if you give it a chance! It’s not a serial story, and it’s intended to be comedy, but there’s some solid good-TNG level stories there.
I quite liked Lower Decks but honestly I’ve never even seen a Star Trek episode to the end before that series: mainly because everything else seemed like an intimating time investment and potentially confusing if you’re not up to date, kind of like comic books.
DS9’s kind of like that because it’s a long serialized story, but VOY (and TNG to a lesser extent) is mostly bottle episodes you can watch on shuffle without getting lost. That show abused its return-to-status-quo button.
Oh no I’m saying something nice about Voyager; I’m gonna get crucified by Internet nerds!
I think that Leslie will work out what’s going on when Roz comes storming out of Pol Sci 102 swearing loudly and bitterly to run Robin out of the town.
And as always with these things I hadn’t even noticed. Like, my first thought when I followed the link was literally “When did Willis redraw this in the style of It’s Walky?”
I mean I’m absolutely here for when she first finds out and the entertainment/drama that results like a vulture over a motorway next to a National Park but…
Is that what Kylo Ren had? Reydar?
Boooooo.
It runs in the family.
…i hadn’t really thought about the fact that they were cousins before
then again i haven’t consumed all that much Star Wars, relatively speaking. i blame my dad for getting the prequels first, lol
Palpatine was only metaphorically Anakin’s father, so it’s cool.
Wait…i thought Plageus created Anamin through the Force.
It is true that Palpatine isn’t Anakin’s donor dad.
You don’t always gotta be shown Star Wars, I’ve learned. Nobody in the family showed it to my niece yet somehow on the walk to school in second grade she was humming an iconic song from the movies! One of her favorites now, I think…
Only in the sense that Rey adopts the Skywalker family, and so Kylo is her adopted cousin.
I’m not sure under what theory they could be actual cousins.
Palpatine “fathered” Anakin by using the Force to manipulate Shmi’s womb.
dafuq?
I was under the impression that it was Darth Plagueis who did that. Even if he did it using his own DNA, that would make Anakin no biological relation to Palpatine.

Leslie is cute, that is all
**my wife glances over while I read the comic**
My Wife: “Leslie looks a lot like Joyce at a distance.”
Me: **looks**
**looks again**
My gods – she does.
Well they are both blondes, and I guess Leslie also has a triangular grin here.
Missing the huge blue goggle-eyes.
Is it just my imagination? Or does Leslie look younger, happier, standing straighter, more powerful? Last semester she seemed so … weighed down, tired??

Leslie is incredible.
Seconded; she’s marvellous
Thirded, she’s a Star
Fourthed, she be with it
She will bring balance to the Farce.
Once again the person saying this fails to mention when they last felt this presence.
Since…
Love the triangle smile in the second panel! It’s good to see Leslie happy!
and it will last just up until Robin decides to bring her class on a field trip into Leslie’s class.
I was going to say “until they meet in the hallway after class” but c’mon, there’s no way that Robin’s going to wait until class is over to start pestering Leslie and knowing her she’ll do it in the most disruptive way possible.

So Leslie would be teaching something different this semester and then do Gender Studies 101 again at the start of the next academic year.
But maybe they do things differently here.
In my experience introductory classes are often run all year, but you would be right for any upper-level courses.
for a “101” AKA initial college course like this? It’s not only every semester, it’s most likely offered online and during winter and summer breaks…both colleges I attended were like this, especially for classes that are required electives for humanities/sociology/sciences/psychology electives
In this new, modern world? Definitely offered online.
There’s usually at least one section for most 101 courses in the spring/102 courses in the fall because of people who apply to start in the spring semester.
Depends on the class, but some schools run intro courses to a major every semester and that’s what Leslie’s teaching here.
So Robin is Obi-Wan then? I’m down
Because that makes Becky our Luke?
I never would have imagined Leslie as Darth Vader. Who’s Palpatine?
Mike.
A guy with no connection to any of the involved parties? Sounds more like a Snoke to me. Someone to show up, die and forget about.
Mike, like the Emperor, was only thought to be dead, so that they could continue their work without revealing their identity.
Ronnie is Palatine!
Wonder if any familiar faces will be in that class or not.
Becky said she’d be there.
In the Tuesday section. This is still Monday.
We assume, we could have jumped a day.
Possible, but it’s never been done without notice before. And only done once at that – skipped over a couple days within a storyline to get Walky his pajama jeans.
Keep On the Sunny Side…always on the Sunny Side…
Always look on the bright side of life!
The Gang Takes Gender Studies Class
First we take Paris, then we’ll take Gender studies?
It’ll help us every day, it’ll brighten all the way
This cannot end well.
I fail to see how this could possibly end badly. Thought this ship had sailed buts its done a nifty about turn and sailed right back into port. MIGHT make up for Willis having Ruth and Billie break up.
Yup. Sailing right into port, as graceful and elegant as an Opera in Venice.
Absolutely nothing can possibly go wrong with this development, and I unreservedly endorse it.
Ship? What ship? Isn’t Leslie dating someone? I don’t remember her name but I do remember she was black and kind of unpleasant or that people didn’t like her in the comments. Did they breakup leaving room for Robin to slide in or something?
Room to dock? What room to dock? Robin doesn’t need room to dock. She can create her own port to slide her ship in out of sheer chutzpah.
Anna. Dentist who never misses a chance at a put-down. Leslie’s got really bad romantic tastes.
Who hasn’t been seen since before the timeskip, so anything could have happened.
Anna’s sentence to No Appearance Baby Jail might be ending soon.
Thanks! I actually did an archive dive cause it was bothering me. I guess there wasn’t much evidence there that they were in an extended long term thing and not a brief fling. So I guess there’s plausible room for Robin not that it would really matter to Robin at all.

I have a good feeling about this.
It’s Dana! Sarah’s old roommate! Yes I know that seems beyond the impossible but it was the first name that popped into my head.
Or maybe it’s just Mary.
It’d be cool if it were Dana! I’d like to see how she’s doing.
Mary could use this class but will never take it.
I think I’d be awesome if Dana came back and hugged Sarah as a true friend who looked out for her while everyone else ignored her problems.
And then Sarah gets her bat.
“Is this introduction so far representative of the amount of your personal drama we should be expecting?”
“Oh you have no idea”
It’s the ghost of Mike.
AKA Booster.
It’s Joe. He flunked last semester and has to retake the class.
I think you kid, but if we never see Joe ask Leslie for help with his issues I will be very disappointed.
So… this means Leslie and Robin are both faculty. Clearly they need a ship name.
Rolie?
…Lesbin? OMG that’s either too perfect or really obnoxious (or both).
I think that ‘Lesbin’ was the official ship name back in the Walkyverse.
Loblie?

I just hope at least some of them are good. Not asking for DS9 or TNG class masterpieces, just “strong VOY episode” would be enough.
Are you suggesting the one they’ve already given us isn’t good?
*prepares public evisceration knife*
Haven’t seen Lower Decks or Discovery, but what I’ve seen of Picard was pretty good. I’ve never been the biggest fan of Enterprise, or the TOS era in general to be honest.

Picard has a season arc and you really need to see the entire thing.
Lower Decks is actually pretty fun if you give it a chance! It’s not a serial story, and it’s intended to be comedy, but there’s some solid good-TNG level stories there.

I feel like how StarWars was filmed and also the in universe differing species beliefs about gender roles would make an EPIC Gender Studies class.
I think that Leslie will work out what’s going on when Roz comes storming out of Pol Sci 102 swearing loudly and bitterly to run Robin out of the town.
….just going to stick this here with the comment “what a difference ten years can make!”
It’s wild how much the art has improved. Like it wasn’t bad back then either it’s just like a very marked improvement.
And as always with these things I hadn’t even noticed. Like, my first thought when I followed the link was literally “When did Willis redraw this in the style of It’s Walky?”
Poor poor Leslie.
I mean I’m absolutely here for when she first finds out and the entertainment/drama that results like a vulture over a motorway next to a National Park but…
Poor Leslie!
Can’t wait to see how this will explode! Something tells me Becky will be the more damaged.
“Oh, yo have no idea.”
I know just a bit more about Star Wars than I do about Jurassic Park, but, I love Leslie here.
Meanwhile, in an actual classroom
The face she makes when she hears Robin and Roz screaming down the hall. I imagine that pose being in response to the “What the f…”
