thankfully it wasn’t as drastic as the other universe’s transition: that was disorienting rereading the old stuff with DoA going on sporting the newer style from later strips
I doubt his mother would allow someone to show that her favored child has faults like that…it seems like something that would have been caught years before
It’s been done. Offhand, I can think of two examples – the original Red Tornado, Ma Hunkle (though I’m not entirely sure if Ma actively cultivated the confusion), and (somewhat more obscure), the character Bat from the Villainous Nights series in the Lovestruck visual novel app.
The supers novel I’ve been writing for the last several NaNos has a hero who does that. He’s basically The Thing, but can switch between regular and extra-crunchy at will. She’s a skinny blonde bass player in her natural form, but because his powered form is big, broad-shouldered, has a deep, gravely (literally) voice, a non-gendered supranym, and doesn’t have a couple of big round boulders mounted up front for no goddamn reason, everybody just assumed Hard Rock was a guy, and because she doesn’t really care (she’s super-laid-back — literally; there’s some power stuff amplifying her natural mellowness… and also she smokes a lot of weed) and it’s good secret identity protection, he went with it.
(None of this has come up in the actual story. My PoV character has only met Hard Rock, and doesn’t know Katrina Kingston yet.)
There’s a current web comic using that premise for a minor recurring character, the comic is “Does Not Play Well With Others”, I don’t remember the villain’s name but his secret identity is his “daughter” Janice.
She calls herself Artificer, but is better known as Tekmage, because that’s the name “his” heroic nemesis Falchion uses when talking to the press. And just to keep things complicated, Janis and Craig (Falchion’s civilian identity) are dating.
That is on my favourite webcomics list. Also, there is the webcomic “Magical Girl Neil”, he is a guy who turns into a girl when he transforms. Although that one is either dead or in hibernation right now.
There’s always like the show gladiators or whatever though. Is that still a thing? They have some muscular spandex ladies that I recall. Or at least the one shown in the UK in the 90s did.
For some reason I used to really like that show? …maybe bc it was the only watchable thing on after Saturday morning cartoons (remember when that was a thing? …no? ack, dating myself)
She can’t do that 24/7, she still has to work even if part of her work involves her enduring a spandex-clad superhero roaming the campus fighting crime.
As horny as she has been, she’s still doing her job there
Okay, so I’m predicting that for some obscure reason Sal is going to have to put on the Nightguy costume for some reason, and thus create confusion to Nightguy’s gender inadvertently give Daisy the false hope that Nightguy is a lady.
Or alternately, Malaya dresses as Nightguy, and Daisy is like “I knew Nightguy was a hot lady– I mean, a lady”, and then Malaya is like “Meh, I’m not sure that’s even true.”
On one hand Jennifer encountering Walky as Nightguy could be funny, like she meets up with him and she knows off the bat it’s him but plays along just to get her job done. BUUUT on the other hand we all know her intuition is garbage when it comes to the obvious so I wouldn’t put it past her to not recognize him. She probably still thinks Sal is Amazi-girl.
I heard tell of a new cape in town, and those rumors that he farts an inordinate amount of times for the amount of physical exertion he’s doing are big fat stinky fibs
I strongly suspect that Daisy may have a strongly personal angle in her reason for wanting to report on the capes of IU campus!
Meanwhile, it appears that Walky is about to experience sexism in a very immediate way. People just aren’t interested in a superhero who isn’t a hot chick in skin-tight spandex!
That’s actually a very bad news. Another person with a hidden suicide wish is going around in the night… BAD!!! And probably on Heathcliff helmet is written “HAM”.
Or she’ll laughingly tell Asher about it and he’ll start badgering her about getting information on Night-Guy. Later on, Amber (who is restlessly prowling the night in her civvies) hears some thugs talking about ‘getting that new interfering caped freak’.
(Aw man, now I wanna see what her costume would have looked like… Was it accurate, what she thinks it should look like, or in inverted colors like it was in the old continuity?)
“Heathcliff” doesn’t run in my local paper so i assume it’s about Wuthering Heights, but it’s set in the Middle Ages and Heathcliff is a knight, to explain the helmet
Okay fine, content. Daisy would adore Diane Youdale, who was Jet in UK Gladiators, and also a werewolf in “She-Wolf of London” which research tells me was vaguely Buffy-like before Buffy was even a thing. Interesting.
#BREAKING: Yellow and Green fire was seen exploding out of a manhole at Texas Tech University moments ago.
Evacuations are underway for the whole campus.

kind of stunning how unpopular trump is already...and yet how craven senate Ds remain in confronting him.

FRASIER: I suppose you don’t approve.
ROZ: Oh, no, Frasier, I really feel for trans women.
FRASIER: Oh? Do go on.
ROZ: Oh, I can just relate to any woman who has a useless prick they’d like to get rid of
Dear cis people,
It's well past the point where this kind of thing will fix everything, but I want you to take note of how easy this is.
These little freaks are soft-handed little babies that will fold like a napkin in the rain.

is that what superheroes do, subtlely out themselves?
also, you can see it TOMORROW, Walky
Walky represents the struggle of us DoA readers.
Who aren’t on Patreon.
Who aren’t Maggie!
That’s a rather poor sell of the Patreon $5 tier.
Effective though.
I didn’t know College newspapers had real comics. I thought they just ran lame-ass student comics like- whatisnaname- “Dormies” or something.
Or “Doonesbury”. (Started life as a college newspaper comic in the Yale Daily News, back in the 70’s.)
Bloom County started in the UT student paper.
oh hey! your icon is no longer anachronistic!
Nine years ago.
ikr. And that art style. Reading throughout the years you don’t notice the gradual change
thankfully it wasn’t as drastic as the other universe’s transition: that was disorienting rereading the old stuff with DoA going on sporting the newer style from later strips
No, they don’t out themselves. They use cunning, subtle ruses to keep their identity secr…
https://images.app.goo.gl/r6ETRdmVv4rKJEWm9
Ok, they just use ruses.
and that’s why he’s one of the worst superheroes out there…well the worst who’s a top-tier superhero everyone seems to know
Are you Walky or Heathcliff?
https://i.imgur.com/rZlDH3B.jpg.
Given the condition of that ‘tank’ death would be a mercy
Walky is implausibly stupid for someone not constantly high, drunk or concussed.
I think the word you’re looking for is “uninhibited”. As a privileged kid does.
He has poor impulse control. Treating his ADHD might help with that.
I doubt his mother would allow someone to show that her favored child has faults like that…it seems like something that would have been caught years before
Walky is exactly as stupid as a college freshman can be expected to be.
I mean we technically don’t know who Night*Gender redacted* is right?
Jennifer’s policy is that all superheroes are Sal until proven otherwise.
And if they ARE proven otherwise, that just shows the lengths Sal will go to protect her identity.
Well we already know from the other universe that Walky can make for a convincing Sal.
I mean there’s actually MORE evidence that Nightwhattheirname could be Sal than even Amazi-girl had!
Sal’s closer than any other wrong guess, so.
Nightqueer
Nightenby
Nightperson
Nighthuman
Nightcarbon
Nightmaybe
Nightbeing
Maybe Nightguy is actually a girl pretending to be a guy to keep people from figuring out who she really is.
…that actually sounds like a great superhero trick.
No, really. It’s ben done before for at least one supervillain(blue snowman) but it sounds like it’d be a decent superhero in the right hands
Cybersix!
… I can’t believe I forgot Cybersix…although the genderbending is in her civilian identity, so I guess I can be forgiven for it…
The supers novel I’ve been writing for the last several NaNos has a hero who does that.

Watch Billie come to the conclusion that Nightguy is Danny
hah!
She’ll be convinced it’s Asher and that’s how their relationship ends.
Oh no.
nah, she’d actually like that and sex him up a lot more
Yeah, but it might actually bother -him-. He might have some unprocessed guilt over his part in the Blaine thing.
Daisy is hardcore Horny on Main.
Also, kinda weird that’s her only character trait in this continuity, but I dig it.
She has other qualitie
s?
She hasn’t really gotten the screentime. I assume that’s coming up, since we’ve gotten more establishment of her office’s location.
Daisy really needs a girlfriend, or even just a one-night stand with another girl or something.
Next poll: Who should Daisy’s girlfriend be?
Daisy is moments away from deciding to fund the construction of an army of Nightguy-Slayer robots.
Well, is NightGuy single?
asking for a friend who is Lucy.
no no walky you are the worst
Gotta ask, why can’t Daisy just ogle ladies in spandex in comic books instead?
One day when cons finally come back Daisy will finally find her cute costumed gf.
And then Daisy dumps her when she insists that, while the cape-love is cute, she really needs to get dressed for work.
Because they’re not real. Not knowing her identity is a minor problem compared to that.
There’s always like the show gladiators or whatever though. Is that still a thing? They have some muscular spandex ladies that I recall. Or at least the one shown in the UK in the 90s did.
American Gladiators? That was a weird show, but I guess you had to take what you could get back before most houses had cable and the Internet.
For some reason I used to really like that show? …maybe bc it was the only watchable thing on after Saturday morning cartoons (remember when that was a thing? …no? ack, dating myself)
Oh yeah, I ‘memba.
I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s already done that, but I suspect she would prefer a real hot lady superhero.
She can’t do that 24/7, she still has to work even if part of her work involves her enduring a spandex-clad superhero roaming the campus fighting crime.
As horny as she has been, she’s still doing her job there
C’mon Walky, you know the rules; you wanna see tomorrow’s funny helmet today, you gotta donate to Heathcliff’s Patreon.
I am aware of all internet traditions, but the idea of the words funny and Heathcliff in the same sentence boggles the mind.
When Heathcliff was new it was pretty good.
But how long ago was that?
I’m old enough to remember Mutt and Jeff and Bringing up Father on their last legs.
That was in the ’70s.
Besides, tomorrow’s Christmas. The odds are good it says “HAM”.
*plays The Beatles “Some Other Guy” on the hacked Muzak*
–is making me very very mad, oh now…
Okay, so I’m predicting that for some obscure reason Sal is going to have to put on the Nightguy costume for some reason, and thus create confusion to Nightguy’s gender inadvertently give Daisy the false hope that Nightguy is a lady.
Or alternately, Malaya dresses as Nightguy, and Daisy is like “I knew Nightguy was a hot lady– I mean, a lady”, and then Malaya is like “Meh, I’m not sure that’s even true.”

We should all admire Daisy’s determination when it comes to sexy superheroes.
Daisy, chill. XD
Okay, there is a Sal gravitar so I’m gonna try grav roulette again.
Ooh! Roz!
No cigar.
I’ll just try again tomorrow.
Daisy you ok
She needs something to drink, she’s very thirsty.
It’s a mistletoe helmet.
Aren’t there any “find ’em and fuck ’em” apps that she could use to get laid?
I get we’ve been in lockdown for 80 hojillion years but if Daisy gets any hornier she’s going to ignite nuclear fusion and become a sun
Jennifer: ‘OK, I’m taking my break. Call me when he’s left and you’ve gotten laid.’
…days later she returns and he’s still there and Daisy is still sexually frustrated
Unless it’s Spider-Man.
nah, they like ragging on him instead…he’s just too easy a target to not rag on
“People” or “editors”?
Or is this a sly dig at newspaper editors and publishers who can’t imagine the readers’ views to differ from theirs?
Fun fact: Daisy’s LADY BONER is actually visible from space.
…perfect gravitar for that, simply perfect
This isn’t regular horniness.
This is ADAVANCED HORNY.
It’s over 9000.
Campus newspaper get syndicated comics? I thought the practice was to hire students do the comics page (i they want any in the first place)
(I prefered when I had Sarah as a grabatar, oh well)
Yeah, that Billiefer looks like she’s wearing black lipstick or something.
Walky, you can’t even see comics in advance if you sign up for Josh Fruhlinger’s Patreon.
she really, really need to get laid or she’s gonna implode any day now
Jesus, Daisy, get laid already.
Oh hey, new gravatar!
That’s actually a very bad news. Another person with a hidden suicide wish is going around in the night… BAD!!! And probably on Heathcliff helmet is written “HAM”.
Walky is great at keeping a secret identity. Just not his own.
Broke: Night Guy
Woke:
Apparently I’m worse at HTML than I thought.
Woke: Might guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVUQluon2fQ&ab_channel=ShifttoDuck
Jeebus, Daisy, chill the fuck out already.
Calling it now, Billie is going to conclude that Asher is Nightguy.
Or she’ll laughingly tell Asher about it and he’ll start badgering her about getting information on Night-Guy. Later on, Amber (who is restlessly prowling the night in her civvies) hears some thugs talking about ‘getting that new interfering caped freak’.
Can I post yet?
Thats a yes and thats a good avatar as well
Billie’s new haircut looks nice.
DAMN I GOT LUCKY WITH MY NEW GRAVATAR!
Did no one dress as Amazi-Girl for Halloween?
Daisy probably did.
(Aw man, now I wanna see what her costume would have looked like… Was it accurate, what she thinks it should look like, or in inverted colors like it was in the old continuity?)
My 2020 Halloween costume was “someone who doesn’t just wear pajamas all the time”.
The campus’ new superhero is revealed: It’s Walky!
As newspaper person, I do sometimes read the comics in advance. Only when I’m like “uhhh where are they going with this punchline??”
“Heathcliff” doesn’t run in my local paper so i assume it’s about Wuthering Heights, but it’s set in the Middle Ages and Heathcliff is a knight, to explain the helmet
Just sliding in late to see what Gravatar I have.
