Walky doesn’t seem to have parsed that emotionally he and Dorothy are through with her being entirely okay with that. He fell in love with her and, well, she didn’t.
You have that the wrong way around. Dorothy said she loved him and meant it, he said it because ‘he was supposed to’ and Walky feels guilty because he literally jumped from Dorothy to Amber with like, a day maybe between and I don’t think Dorothy knows.
I read it as him feeling sad that what he had with Dorothy was over and still being all emotionally tore up over it. He may also be deciding that Amber is just a rebound. Heartbreak does not go away easy.
Relative to “dude doesn’t get stopped” it’s pretty good. Relative to “dude trips and manages to hit his head so hard he ends up in a many-year coma” it’s been pretty hard on the other characters.
I don’t know, based on her smile in panel 4 I suspect Dorothy would be ok with getting back together with Walky eventually. Walky definitely seems to be taking their breakup harder though.
I didn’t perfectly understand her reasoning. I heard something in between “I need to become president of the USA instead of having a boyfriend” which felt like “ohhhhhkay” and “I don’t feel super good about enabling your ADD non-studying and co-attendant self-loathing.”
On some level Walky could be missing her hot, hot body (even if Amber has a hot hot body too, one can appreciate both!) And maybe more complex feels about missing what was and might have been even as he’s happy with some of what he has with Amber too.
I didn’t see any of the latter. She spend a bunch of time worrying about what was going on with him and then some time trying to help him study. I don’t recall anything about enabling him.
She did feel bad about jerking him around and not sticking to limits that she’d set herself – “just for fun” turning into “love you” and “the pause was a lie”. I’d actually like to see a bit more of how she’s dealing with the aftermath and with her basic conflict of her emotional needs fighting with her plan.
I think Walky was definitely feeling guilty that Dorothy was running herself ragged tutoring him with no success on top of all her extracurriculars to make her resume look nice for Yale so she could become president. (I don’t really look forward to Dorothy actively realizing that the effort you put in and the qualifications you have don’t actually matter to politics. At the same time, it will be interesting.) And then Dorothy was still running herself ragged so they called the pause. But yeah, I think the biggest issue on Dorothy’s end was that she was watching herself shift those goal posts and it didn’t seem fair to Walky to get that invested when she still plans on transferring.
We see one look from her and it’s very much a public face look. Hard to say what’s going on in her head. She might be on top of it. She might still be heartbroken.
We’ve actually seen very little of her reaction post breakup and I’d like to see more.
Thats funny, I actually thought the poster was refering to Walky cause… well actually the because should be obvious. Nice of Willis to clear that up for us. Well, maybe not “us,” probably I’m the only one with a sufficient surfeit of smuttiness to have gone there in the first place.
He’s in the basement of an abandoned house, holding the bad dads at the bottom of a disused well, threatening them with a hose, and making them rub lotion on each other.
Apparently he was Amber’s imaginary friend who ended up sacrificing himself for her. That’s probably why you’re forgetting him, just like whoever it was from Inside Out was forgotten.
There are some ex’s you’ll never truly get over, Walky. I learned this the hard way. *wry smile* All you can really do is remember the good times you had together, and that you broke up for a reason. CLING HARD TO THAT REASON.
On a scale from one to ten, my friend,
You’re fucked!
In lack of other words I’d say,
You’re fucked!
You are as they say, in Japanese,
Fucked from the head
Down to the knees!
I am sorry to inform you are
Fuuuuuuu… ndementally fucked!
(Ylvis – Yes, those “What does the Fox Say” guys!)
YOU’RE FUCKER
“I intend to.”
… wait, I think I messed that up.
How do I get this poster?
Not from a Jedi.
The Great Silence.
The perfect title. That’s it, that’s all we need.
Look at me
I’m as helpless as a kitten up a tree…
Oh, right, feelings.
Crap.
feelings, not even once
Feelings. Still? It’s been at least a week and wasn’t he just grinding on thic Dorothy moments ago?
Yes. That’s the point. Something else to feel garbage about.
Amber. He was grinding on Amber. Not sure he can tell the difference, either.
All of Dorothy’s exes rebound to Amber.
All of Danny’s exes rebound to Walky.
It’s a closely-knit ecosystem.
Whoa, whoa, whoa… feelings?
That’s me in the corner.
That’s me in the spotlight.
Losin’ my religion.
you’r fucké
What do you got to feel bad about Walkman you’re bout to get a free ride for this semester!
Maybe he just found out that that’s actually a myth.
There are two types of people in this world.
The:
You’re Fucked
And the:
You’re a Fucker
It isn’t a Lord Kitchener style poster with Mike’s face saying he wants your mum for a nickle?
What is it with commenters associating Mike with woodpeckers?
His hair looks like a bird. Krillis said on Scritter that it’s a Homestuck reference.
A woodpecker goes out and bangs it’s head on a tree. Mike goes out and bangs your mom. The parallelism is obvious.
That sounds like a DoA book stretch goal!
So, we can probably expect to find out what actually happened to Mike around July 15?
2022
Keep that optimism handy. You never know when you might need it.
Oh thank god, he at the very least changed his underwear.
One day he’ll do laundry.
Shouldn’t those character boxers at least be tagged?
How can you do that alt text to me Willis
How does the meme go? <Dumbing of Age Volume ??: You'r Fucke
*cries*
Shakes fist at sky.
joyce-screaming-damn-you-willis-at-the-sky.png
That alt text is some Hussie level of messed up, Willis. Also, is Walky feeling guilt about having sex with someone after he and Dorothy broke up?
Walky doesn’t seem to have parsed that emotionally he and Dorothy are through with her being entirely okay with that. He fell in love with her and, well, she didn’t.
Just because Dorothy didn’t go and make Bad Decisions after the final break up doesn’t mean she wasn’t in love.
She just smiled and waved at Walky. If that’s not a bad decision, I don’t know what is.
You have that the wrong way around. Dorothy said she loved him and meant it, he said it because ‘he was supposed to’ and Walky feels guilty because he literally jumped from Dorothy to Amber with like, a day maybe between and I don’t think Dorothy knows.
No, she knows.
She super knows.

I read it as him feeling sad that what he had with Dorothy was over and still being all emotionally tore up over it. He may also be deciding that Amber is just a rebound. Heartbreak does not go away easy.
I think that it’s about him not studying
All of it tied up into one messy bundle.
ACTUALLY FOAMING AT THE MOUTH NOW
Look, EVERYONE, stop taking that exit from the building. NOTHING GOOD HAPPENS ON THOSE STAIRS!
(Disclaimer: I haven’t actually checked to see if anything good has happened on those stairs. Feel free to archive binge to prove me wrong.)
Joyce looked at some tape. Some rapist dude got harassed by some chick with a phone and he wound up in hospital.
Those both ended up pretty angsty. Next?
Angsty of not, rapist dude winds up in hospital meets my criteria for good.
Dorothy needed to go to therapy afterwards and Amber’s condition got significantly worse because of that.
That’s not good. It’s actually pretty bad.
Relative to “dude doesn’t get stopped” it’s pretty good. Relative to “dude trips and manages to hit his head so hard he ends up in a many-year coma” it’s been pretty hard on the other characters.
Are those the break-up stairs, or am I confusing them with a different set of stairs?
I for one have stopped trusting stairs altogether in this comic.
Dorothy: *sings We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together*
Walky: *shocked Pikachu face*
Their relationship in a nutshell.

But yeah, I think the biggest issue on Dorothy’s end was that she was watching herself shift those goal posts and it didn’t seem fair to Walky to get that invested when she still plans on transferring.
I think it’s more of her saying: “No hard feelings”. Because there aren’t for her; she’s on top of it but Walky isn’t yet.
We see one look from her and it’s very much a public face look. Hard to say what’s going on in her head. She might be on top of it. She might still be heartbroken.
We’ve actually seen very little of her reaction post breakup and I’d like to see more.

As a reader of yours for over 13 years, I am impressed by your evolving methods of making me go “Damn you, Willis”.
Thats funny, I actually thought the poster was refering to Walky cause… well actually the because should be obvious. Nice of Willis to clear that up for us. Well, maybe not “us,” probably I’m the only one with a sufficient surfeit of smuttiness to have gone there in the first place.
It can be both.
I’d go listen to a band named Sufficient Surfiet of Smuttiness.
Oh dear. Dorothy has moved on but Walky hasn’t!
Where.IS.Mike?!?
The hospital? Hell? Chained in Blaine’s torture basement?
It’s an open question at this point really.
The only thing we can agree on is that it involves lotion.
So is it the hospital? Hell? Chained in Blaine’s torture basement?
I’m honestly thinking that Carol’s phone call does indeed mean she knows what happened to Mike.
But also: batshit theory. Mike is being held captive on Joyce’s old block and this is gonna become a Waco thing.
With Toedad’s mom. Mike paid twice his going rate because she had to deal with raising a toe for a son
He’s in the basement of an abandoned house, holding the bad dads at the bottom of a disused well, threatening them with a hose, and making them rub lotion on each other.
Who is this ‘Mike’ that is referred to in the alt-text?
No idea. Sounds like an asshole.
Apparently he was Amber’s imaginary friend who ended up sacrificing himself for her. That’s probably why you’re forgetting him, just like whoever it was from Inside Out was forgotten.
I think he was a nickel aficionado.
And one who is often mistaken to have been a big fan of European woodpeckers, for some reason.
There are some ex’s you’ll never truly get over, Walky. I learned this the hard way. *wry smile* All you can really do is remember the good times you had together, and that you broke up for a reason. CLING HARD TO THAT REASON.
Let it go, Elsa
Dorothy made her bed.
So Walky can no longer sleep in it.
His inner Mike is talking to him too.
On a scale from one to ten, my friend,
You’re fucked!
In lack of other words I’d say,
You’re fucked!
You are as they say, in Japanese,
Fucked from the head
Down to the knees!

Fuuuuuuu… ndementally fucked!

Dumbing of Age Book 10: Down Here We Can Feel Garbage
It’s weird how I genuinely think Amber is a much better boyfriend for Walky and don’t ship Dot with any of her love interests (maybe Joyce).
You meant “girlfriend”, right?
I ship Amber with therapy, as someone suggested a couple of days ago.
As for Dotty, I ship her with Jacob.
Been there, Walkerton.
