It would allow her to emotionally prepare as well as be on the lookout. It would also let her know that those dudes following her around are body guards
Though democracy is more than just majority rules. It is about constitution, human rights, checks and balances, etc. If only the majority rules, then it would be populism and the majority can choose something immoral that would harm a minority that has no representation, like people that can’t vote.
Unfortunately, Dorothy is like an establishment Democrat: if you take an actual stance of your own accord then people might disagree with you and OH NOES MAH CAREER.
Precisely. And if Becky does find out later from another source, she’ll wanna know why Joyce chose not to tell her when she had the chance; which could ruin their friendship…
It’s something Joyce should do, but yeah, that’s a valid point. No one’s keeping Dorothy from telling her.
Then again, Joyce had Sarah tell Becky about Ryan because she was unable to do it herself. I think Joyce would regret it if Becky had to find this out second-hand, too, even if the situation is very different.
Dorothy: you don’t need Joyce’s permission to do the right thing, and you have absolutely no reason to defer to her judgement; you know that she is näive and misinformed about what goes on.
Somebody should definitely tell Becky that her dad’s out of jail. As long as that someone isn’t Ross himself of course. And we still don’t what happened to him and Blaine, and also Mike.
Of course! He’s holding Blaine and Ross in durance at the bottom of a dry well in the basement of a disused house. And making them put lotion on each other’s skin. Otherwise they get the hose….
I’m thinking yes and captured by the BadDads for some intense torture scenes, or else Toedad maybe grew a conscience and realized killing random dudes wasn’t related to his mission of helping is daughter and took him to the hospital, or maybe some random bystander took him to the hospital, or maybe AmaziGirl went absolutely apeshit and they’re all in the hospital.
Or he’s dead, which I’m fine with because I barely cared about him when he was a 1-dimensional snark character and hardened my heart when he grew a 2nd dimension.
I’m a fan too. 🙂 She’s willing to be the “harsh mirror of reality” that all groups need to stay grounded, but without doing it in a roundabout cruel way that Mike does.
Sarah performs this function after having proven her genuine affection several times over, which is why it actually *works*. If you’re mike all the time, no one cares about your opinion, as Amber noted.
If you can’t make a call this easy, you’re really gonna struggle ordering servicemembers into a combat situation you know some of them are going home from in boxes.
Unfortunately, people listen to jerks all the time. Being a jerk seems to be a prerequisite to being elected for high-ranking office, which is why Dorothy will not become president.
Sarah, for crying out loud, all Dorothy wants is your opinion and advice. You only need to say “I think that your concerns are justified/unjustified” or words to that effect.
Meanwhile, I do think that Joyce is about to have some kind of meltdown.
Yeah, Joyce does seem close to the point of mental ka-BOOM. Hopefully she doesn’t have it anywhere near Mary, because she really doesn’t need that bongo getting involved.
Though seriously Dorothy, just tell Becky. Joyce can’t tell you what to do, she’s not your mom. You’re your mom twice over. You don’t need another mom in the form of Joyce.
Oh, Becky definitely wants to know. None of them want to be the one to tell her. Hence Sarah’s jibe. Don’t push someone else to tell her. You think it’s a good idea? You do it.
Nope. The idea that Becky is a shrinking violet whose delicate feelings have to be protected has no basis in anything except Joyce’s and Robin’s power trips. Becky is actually a pretty strong person who neither needs nor wants to be babied.
The problem with President Dorothy is that President Dorothy would be great if all parties involved were also great and well-meaning and their discussions were about if taxes should stay the same or if the the reduced purchasing power of raising them by like 1% would be adeqately offset by the strengthening of social programs. Basically, President Dorothy would be great if you were in a situation in which you didn’t actually need the president to do anything.
Unfortunately, the US doesn’t have that. What the US DOES have is:
a) a political party who thinks that everyone who isn’t rich is disposable, everyone who isn’t white should work menial jobs for pennies, everyone who isn’t male should shut up and spread their legs, and everyone who isn’t straight needs a good raping to get with the program; and
b) a political party mostly constituted by people who will work towards equality, sure, I guess, if it doesn’t impact my bottom line and doesn’t take any actual work, god forbid, and gosh, I won’t have to be rude to the other party will I, that’s so *gasp* uncouth.
Note that, contrary to so much popular opinion, b) includes a vast swathe of its constituents, who are totally for equality but not if they have to call out people, because gosh, that might make Thanksgiving AWKWARD.
Sarah is right though. She’s being a useless politician if all she does is talk. If she gonna do something, do it. Stop sitting around and put your money where your mouth is
Dotty’s impersonation of an upside-down Shroomish
I mean srsly tho, what’s Becky going to do with that knowledge?
besides RELEASE THE DINA
Shroomish?
I googled it.
Apparently it’s a Pokemon.
Thanks, Rose
An upside-down Shroomish would have an angry smile, tho.
Nuuu Dotty, you can’t harm Sarah with your hate – it only makes her stronger. 🙂
It would allow her to emotionally prepare as well as be on the lookout. It would also let her know that those dudes following her around are body guards
(that was sarcasm, I get that doesn’t always come across here but 🤷 what’s Becky gonna do, feel like her friends are watching out for her??)
my bad lol
The current poll on the right side of this site contradicts Sarah’s statement about her popularity.
Did Robin make them sign an NDA?
Yes, but “Snitches get stitches” scrawled on the inside of a Whatchamacallit wrapper probably isn’t legally binding.
Though Robin is sponsoring legislation to change that.
Is Eleanor from the Good Place an alternate-verse Robin?
Well she is now… in my head at least.
I must admit, I could easily hear Kristen Bell’s voice coming out of her.
Dorothy wants a democracy where the majority agree.
Sarah tells her, ‘it’s fine, just be chaos, do what you want’.
Problem being democracy isn’t everyone agreeing, it’s when people disagree and that’s fine.
Hamilton: “I rather to be divisive than indecisive. Drop the niceties.”
I’d rather have Mayhem than Chaos, thanks. I can relate to a two and a half month old St. Bernard, … or was that German Shepherd?
Though democracy is more than just majority rules. It is about constitution, human rights, checks and balances, etc. If only the majority rules, then it would be populism and the majority can choose something immoral that would harm a minority that has no representation, like people that can’t vote.
Sarah: “Yes, your hate is deeelishis!”
“I AM the hate”
Yet, to be frank, there could be mediocrity in Robin’s current action going forward
She should let the hate flow through her, and then turn to see its path.
And when it is gone, … only I shall remain.
I mean, she’s not wrong, Dorothy.
Dumbing of Age 10: We Go Home; Never Speak of This Again
Unfortunately, Dorothy is like an establishment Democrat: if you take an actual stance of your own accord then people might disagree with you and OH NOES MAH CAREER.
Seriously though. Screw protecting Becky’s feelings or whatever and tell her, her dad’s out of jail.
Joyce looks so guilty…
I rather like how Joyce is adding “instant introspection” to her personality.
Better to be the bearer of bad news than not tell her at all.
Sarah is a goddamn delight
She’s got you there, Dorothy.
Good call, Sarah.
See Dorothy, Mike’s approach has it’s advantages.
Just don’t go jumping head first off fire escapes.
Why is Becky’s security detail in panel one? He and his Uggs should be keeping an eye on Becky.
Think that’s one Robin kept for herself. The two we saw watching Becky didn’t have a ‘stache.
Alternately Becky is just offscreen, listening to the conversation.
Go back two strips and re-read.
Looks like Robin has another guard at her place.
“Magnum, P.I. with Uggs” is an… interesting choice of uniform, but it’s her dime.
This. Robin said she has some of them keeping an eye on Becky, and some others keeping the apartment secure.
Does anybody think Mike is still alive?
On the whole, yes.
But am prepared to be wrong.
Of course! He’s holding Blaine and Ross in durance at the bottom of a dry well in the basement of a disused house. And making them put lotion on each other’s skin. Otherwise they get the hose….

I’ve already forgot who that is.
Mike Warner…. Chuck Cunningham‘s boyfriend….
Goddamn, I love Sarah
I’m a fan too. 🙂 She’s willing to be the “harsh mirror of reality” that all groups need to stay grounded, but without doing it in a roundabout cruel way that Mike does.

^This.
If you can’t make a call this easy, you’re really gonna struggle ordering servicemembers into a combat situation you know some of them are going home from in boxes.
Which might be something President’s should struggle with a bit more.
#TeamSarah
Sarah’s putting a lot of effort into kick-starting the plot, for someone who’s allegedly only offering begrudging participation.
Sarah, even when you are right, people don’t listen to jerks. That is one of the few good lessons from Rick and Morty.
Joyce seems to be having an existential crisis again. Maybe someone can give her a copy of undertale to practice morality.
Unfortunately, people listen to jerks all the time. Being a jerk seems to be a prerequisite to being elected for high-ranking office, which is why Dorothy will not become president.
Have you met your president and like, half of the Democrat primary candidates?
They are jerks and they are wrong.
Well, I’m not debating that. I’m countering your initial statement that people don’t listen to jerks.
Wait, if being an adult is a job, shouldn’t I be getting paid?
I mean I’m prepared to agree I’m only doing it part-time, but still.
You’re getting paid…
In exposure!
Good thing my mortgage costs me only 350 exposures!
Pretty sure the law frowns on “exposure”.
I *am* feeling exposed indeed.
Sarah is awesome #ifyouaintnoticedyet
Also: did the buffer date went backwards a little? Is this related to Major Pete retreating back to Indiana?
Nope, it seems it went forwards like a week. I must have dreamed that I saw June 20, 2020 (too many 20s?).
Hey, Dorothy. Sarah is not the one asking you not to talk to Becky. Joyce is. Take it up with her.
Hey, Sarah. Dorothy is not the one walking around with a sad face breaking your heart. Joyce is. Take it up with her.
Hey, Joyce. You know the right thing to do. Do it.
A case could be made that Sarah is a tad too confrontative.
I know, I’m shocked too. Shocked, I tell you.
Your winnings, sir.
…Joyce was full on stopping her not long ago, tho.
Sarah all WHY ARE YOU BOOING ME, I’M RIGHT
Being factually correct doesn’t automatically correlate to being ‘right’, Sarah.
That’s called “answering your own question”.
Sarah and Dorothy are arguing the case. They are about to run into Becky. Then Judge Joyce will have to make a ruling. She will blurt it out.
Right now I am in love with Sarah ♡.
Carol Brown’s big guns didn’t work on Sarah?! Oh myyy gaaaaawwwwddd……
Sarah has a lot of points. Like a cactus.
Though seriously Dorothy, just tell Becky. Joyce can’t tell you what to do, she’s not your mom. You’re your mom twice over. You don’t need another mom in the form of Joyce.
OK dumb question; can anyone imagine Becky not wanting to know?
Nope. Pretty sure most people would want to know if their potential kidnapper was on the loose.
Nope. The only reason why people might not want to know something like that is if Ross’s out-of-jail period had already ended.
Regardless of what Joice wants Dorothy is indeed quite passive more of a school counselor than a president

Dorothy ought to just tell Becky. Hoping someone else will do it isn’t always a good plan.
Sarah is right and she should say it
Sarah is right though. She’s being a useless politician if all she does is talk. If she gonna do something, do it. Stop sitting around and put your money where your mouth is
