Or Michael Myers. How did nobody noticed him in plain day light? He walked across the street easily like some background character, but the characters didn’t notice.
At least this is legitimately a case of ‘right impulse, bad execution’? For Robin as she’s been shown in the strip thus far, this marks some genuine character growth–she’s now at least considering other people.
She still has a lousy ‘theory of mind’ (the ability to perceive a situation from someone else’s perspective, and understand that what they want might be different from what you want and believe), but she’s trying.
For the record, Chuckles and Roadblock are G.I. Joe characters. The Chuckles figure wore a tropical shirt. The Roadblock character wore a tropical shirt in one of the comics’ storylines (told in Special Missions).
Well they’re all on their phones, when they should be eyeballing them. So that will make them stick out to most of the rest of the campus that are buried in theirs.
I don’t know. How sure are we Ross is even still at large right now? Like nothing has happened after that whole fight cliffhanger so this might all be an overreaction.
Assuming she got word through some official channels, if they were back in custody, she’d have learned of that as well.
Of course, AG could have just killed them and stashed the bodies, which she wouldn’t know about.
Yeah, that… basically sums it up, in a lot of Robin’s storylines. (Hanging out in someone’s home and refusing to leave, bringing on a paparazzi swarm is totally fun and goofy, and not incredibly creepy and violating!)
I mean Robin is a congresswoman. I know she’s a bit of a joke and our political climate leads most to believe are politicians don’t do anything but Robin actually has surprising amount of power and a personal interest in this situation. It would be quite easy for her to find out. She might have even been able to keep Ross in jail if she’d cared enough to try.
You don’t really even need power to find out if someone posts bond. That’s pretty much always public information. She could probably just have an alert set up for it.
Her concern about her campaign manager, without whom she has no chance of getting re-elected? Kind of in the right place, I guess, for her heart to be.
This is possibly the strip in which we’ve seen Robin at her best so far: caring, looking out for the people around her, and making quick, decisive, proportional decisions.
And while wanting to keep Becky safe and also not wanting to worry her sounds good on paper – she’s also being short-sighted, underestimating her, patronising her… And if Becky freaks out because she is aware she is being followed by strangers, potentially making the situation worse. Y’know, beyond the whole hiring an adult to do an adult’s job then treating them like a child betrayal of trust thing…
Yeah, nice to see a bit more of Robin’s potential to maybe someday be a decent human being.
And meanwhile, show Joyce the exact issues ‘not telling Becky’ would imply, with added Weird Stranger Dudes following her around which she’s clearly noticing and will not trust at all!
This is good and all even if Becky may be safe that doesn’t mean everyone else is since Becky wasn’t the only target. If Blaine and Ross can’t get to Becky then they’ll just go after someone close to her and use them to draw her out. Chances are it’ll be either Joyce or Dina, most likely Dina since she close to both Becky and Amber.
Those two guys reminded me of a moment in the Arnold Schwarzenegger film “Red Heat.” In the film, Arnold plays a Soviet soldier sent to Chicago on a case. There, he is teamed up with Jim Belushi, hijinks ensue! At one point, he shows up in a badly fitting suit and exclaims; “Ah am undeh covah!” Belushi’s response? “You look like Gumby!”
OK, this is making it less and less plausible that Mike actually died. I know it’s still possible – to DYW all things are possible – but it would take some explanation.
If a body had been found, it’s really implausible that Robin would not know about it.
… But it’s quite plausible that Robin would know, and not have mentioned it and/or made the connection.
… Still, that wouldn’t solve the other mystery: What did Amazi-Girl do after Mike fell?
1) She didn’t turn into Amber, because Amber doesn’t remember anything.
2) She didn’t fight the Evil Dads and lose, because Amber’s not beat up.
3) She didn’t fight the Evil Dads and win, because Toedad would be in jail again.
4) She probably didn’t run away and notify authorities, because Robin would probably have heard.
5) She didn’t become totally non-functional, because Blaine would have done something horrible to her.
All I can guess is that she, as Amazi-Girl, made a strategic retreat… then Amber took over, and didn’t remember anything… leaving the Evil Dads free to remove Mike (dead or alive)… in which case we may have to wait until Amazi-Girl comes back for our next clue.
3a) She snapped when Mike fell, and nobody’s found the bodies of the Evil Dads yet. Which would also provide AG with a reason to keep hiding in Amber’s head without telling her what was going on.
I know, that’s probably the lowest-probability outcome, but a man can dream…
So close, Robin… So close, and yet so far. 😛 If you REALLY didn’t want to tell Becky the truth for the security, you should have just said “Kid, this is just standard practice. ALL political employees at this level have security details assigned to them, just in case.” (Which, btw, is true. Past a certain level, you WILL need security around to provide a buffer against extremely angry political opponents/voters, or just wacko nutjobs packing a gun or other weapon. There was a recent case in Indonesia where a high-ranking minister got out of his car to do the typical meet-n-greet your constituents thing and some crazy just ran up to him and stabbed him with a knife.)
my problem is, that as body guards they’re too far away to prevent an attack. Toe-Dad is built like a tank, he may or may not BE fit, but his inertia once moving could do some damage before two or three could stop him.
Unless Toe-Dad comes up with guns a-blazing — and I don’t think that’s likely; remember, he is trying to ‘rescue’ his daughter and put her back on ‘the right path’, not martyr her as a hopeless heretic — those bodyguards are definitely close enough.
Joyce, you and Robin are birds of a feather when it comes to extreme actions to protect your friends. Better learn from this so you don’t become like Robin.
Well at least Becky is already on “something it’s up” mode. Probably not confortable but helpful for the moment, even if she has no idea of the details.
as inconspicuous as Jason
Or Michael Myers. How did nobody noticed him in plain day light? He walked across the street easily like some background character, but the characters didn’t notice.
Well, it WAS Halloween.
I like to think Robin just had those shirts, and insisted.
Beef found some part time work!
Digging a grave for Mike.
Because they want to bury him alive.
They found out the source of all the nickles.
What is a “nickle”?
Nickname for the European green woodpecker (Picus viridis); also called a ‘nicker-pecker’.
They’re those coins your mom has after her weekend visits with your “uncles”.
Those are “nickels”.
Yeah, that’s either Biff or Duke Nukem.
He’ll need a partner who can somehow understand his monosyllabic grunts, otherwise how would he call for backup?
I guess that’s what the goon with the green shirt is there for then.
Should just ask Ted Cruz to do some Zodiac-ing and get rid of Toedad that way…
Excellent idea!
Goddammit Robin. Yeah, not creepy at all.
Not only that. Becky is going to ditch them in three,
Two.
One.
… and then.
“I think it’s time we blow this scene.”
“Get everybody and the stuff together”
“okay, one, two, three let’s jam”
*sax commences*
See you, space cowboy…
*Three, two, one, let’s jam.
Indeed. Very trying. 😛
Lol XD
Protect her without telling and worrying her. Like Joyce wanted to do at first.
I dub them Chuckles and Roadblock.
Two names that sound better if given to a clown and a transformer respectively.
Much like Parapet and Safeguard.
For the record, Chuckles and Roadblock are G.I. Joe characters. The Chuckles figure wore a tropical shirt. The Roadblock character wore a tropical shirt in one of the comics’ storylines (told in Special Missions).
NOW YOU KNOW.
Despite being roughly the size of a small barn, I’m willing to bet Roadblock would do a better job at being inconspicuous.
Until he started cooking and rhyming of course.
Hawaiian shirts? Suspicious.
Uggs? It’s a look, so we’ll let it slide.
hawaiian shirts and uggs where do they think this is, Florida in the winter
Yep that’s not conspicuous at all. No siree.
secret agent man
But I LIKE my name as is!
Too bad. Your number is 3.
Who is number one?
It was him, Mister Krabs! He was number one!
The bald kid wearing sunglasses.
And it’s pronounced “Numbah”, thank you very much.
By hook or by crook, we will.
Well they’re all on their phones, when they should be eyeballing them. So that will make them stick out to most of the rest of the campus that are buried in theirs.
Now might be a good time for an apology Joyce because anger, fear and worry Is no excuse for your behavior
Is Robin still running on a Republican ticket or is she an independent now?
I seem to remember she was nominated by the Party but has been dis-endorsed. So she gets the precious (R) on the ballot but no campaign volunteers.
What happens to the money donated to her for running? Are those her funds or the party’s?
All the funds were cashed out a while ago, and are what the Dina-saur is stuffed with.
I don’t know. How sure are we Ross is even still at large right now? Like nothing has happened after that whole fight cliffhanger so this might all be an overreaction.
Yes. Becky overreacting to a bunch of suspicious guys discreetly tailing her.
Hijinks are basically promised.
Assuming she got word through some official channels, if they were back in custody, she’d have learned of that as well.
Of course, AG could have just killed them and stashed the bodies, which she wouldn’t know about.
rich mullins appeared a year ago
If anyone was going to be worse on informed consent than Joyce, it would be Robin.
Robin is in some ways just Joyce with money and a position of power
Yeah, that… basically sums it up, in a lot of Robin’s storylines. (Hanging out in someone’s home and refusing to leave, bringing on a paparazzi swarm is totally fun and goofy, and not incredibly creepy and violating!)
How is that like Joyce? I guess if you took some of Joyce’s worst points, ramped them up to 11 and ignored all her good ones.
She’s doing her best, but she’s still Robin. We can only ask so much.
Well, Robin and Joyce have similar ideas about deciding what’s right for Becky without informing or consulting her.
Though Joyce got over it in about 5 minutes. It’s an understandable impulse, as long as you overcome it.
Yeah, Becky’s agency is getting thoroughly trampled in this storyline. That can’t possibly cause any blowback!
Hard to blame Joyce for that, since she’s come here to tell Becky.
Trampling agency is what Robin does. I’m not sure she recognized that other people have any.
Joyce also wanted to shelter Becky from knowing Ross is out of jail “for her own good” only a few strips ago, but at least she came around.
It’s not an uncommon reaction. Or an entirely bad one.
As long as you reconsider. It only took her a few minutes, iirc.
Is Becky’s eye twitching because she doesn’t know why she’s being followed?
Could be the shirt is so bright it’s triggering a migraine…
So close Robin, so close. At least her heart is in the right place? That counts, right? Although now we have to ask, how did Robin find out?
I’d assume someone at the Prison may have let her know, since she made a big deal out of Becky during a press conference as I recall.
Yeah. Or maybe Amazi Girl.

Y’know, beyond the whole hiring an adult to do an adult’s job then treating them like a child betrayal of trust thing…
Proportional for Robin, at any rate. She still has them dressing like Magnum.
I think the world would be a better place if all security personnel had to dress like that.
Speaking as someone who works security, no thank you. Hawaiian shirts are too baggy.

Stealth check failed
I know aloha shirts aren’t exactly uncommon, but I can’t help but think that these guys look like they raided Walkyverse Joe’s closet
I should wear mine more often!
Could’ve hired ninjas.
Don’t be ridiculous. Ninjas can’t wear hawaiian shirts.
Rick’s hiding in the bushes.
All the time. In every strip.
“Dad would have gotten us ninjas.”
I don’t know why but the blond guy wearing a hawaiian shirt looks a bit like Duke Nukem to me.
Oh good, I’m not the only person who thought that.
He’s here to chew ass and kick bubble gum, and he’s all out of ass.
(Robin has a budget and it was short notice, she had to take what she could get.)
That’s a very… Robin solution.
Still, not bad!
Let’s be real, flawed though it is, it’s hardly the worst decision we’ve seen her make.
I’d even say it makes the top-five list of her BEST decisions.
There were five?
I’m disappointed there’s no “goons” in the tags.
Bodyguard meeting: “what do college kids wear these days? Hawaiian shirts? I’m pretty sure Hawaiian shirts?!”
“Yeah, we’ll totally not stick out like a sore thumb!”
He was a cop not a soldier
The biggest asset those guards have is that they’re so obvious, no one will ever believe that they are what they look like they are!
On the other hand, Toedad is so stupid so who knows what he might believe.
Becky definitely won’t notice those guys in Hawaiian shirts following her everywhere.
Aw, Robin really cares.
Any change she hired Beef too? I kno he is still a sutdent, but Robin woudln’t be above that.
(I really want Beef to be given more development than in the Walkyverse)
WITH CAT-LIKE TREAD
UPON OUR PREY WE STEAL
IN SILENT DREAD
OUR CAUTIOUS WAY WE FEEL
Tarantarah, tarantarah!

The Evil Dads wake up tied up in some weird way in a warehouse, with a shadowy figure watching them from behind glaring spotlights.
I hope there’s a bit of McHenry there in the buffer to round this great storyline of “adults in the room doing adult things”.
So close, Robin… So close, and yet so far. 😛 If you REALLY didn’t want to tell Becky the truth for the security, you should have just said “Kid, this is just standard practice. I swear, Robin is like “sheMeansWell.gif” incarnated…
I’d imagine few things make a young, persecuted minority feel safer than being followed by strange, burly men. Few things.
Definitely not worrying. At all. Nothing to see here.
my problem is, that as body guards they’re too far away to prevent an attack. Toe-Dad is built like a tank, he may or may not BE fit, but his inertia once moving could do some damage before two or three could stop him.

Ross looks slow to me, and he has knees ripe for the cracking.
I’m still confused. Is this pre-party flashback? Is it day after party?
I’m pretty sure this is “current”.
Being followed by professional government goons? Perfectly normal.
Today’s electoral campaign activity: walk around campus with posterboard.
Expected votes accrued: all of them probably??
So they’re EXACTLY as subtle as a florescent Hawaiian shirt print.
The twist is those are thugs working for Blaine. The real agents are much more subtle.
Yep. She looks so relaxed right now.
Joyce, you and Robin are birds of a feather when it comes to extreme actions to protect your friends. Better learn from this so you don’t become like Robin.
very…stealthy… much…wow…
I mean, we never really expected Robin to do this the exact correct way, right? By Robin standards, this is surprisingly competent.
Peter Parker: I can’t endanger you by letting you know the truth of my secret identity.
Mary Jane: Being ignorant puts me in MORE danger.
I love robbin
I appreciate the one who is, fairly successfully, doing the cartoon move of sucking in his gut and fitting behind a lamp post
Maybe he’s just down a leg?
I vote we name then Agent Uggsy and Agent lamplit.
So does Becky still not have a phone? If not, how can she effectively run Robin’s campaign? If she does, Joyce should just call her and tell her.
I see this was discussed yesterday and Becky is supposed to have a phone, so…?
Well at least Becky is already on “something it’s up” mode. Probably not confortable but helpful for the moment, even if she has no idea of the details.
My fanon is these are the obvious bodyguards to distract you from the nondescript real bodyguard posing as an old woman feeding the pigeons.
Who’s posing? It’s not like she’s faking feeding the pigeons.
It is too bad she didn’t have the security on last night. And why do I get the feeling those shirts are modelled after ones in Willis’s closet?
