Based on a reference photo I finally found, and depending on which corner of the wall he’s standing at, Walky is at most six feet off the ground, if he’s not at the three-feet end.
So I’ll give you Wrist-Break-Defying Parkour Stunt. Death-Defying? Only in his own mind.
Brick would be encroaching on Zed’s turf with that. On the other hand, Brick’s version of “extracorporeal shockwave therapy” would probably be still be safer than what Mr. “I don’t have a medical license” would likely suggest.
I don’t want them to, but if they started banging,
Amazi-Girl would be the new sidechick to her new sidekick
and I couldn’t just let that pun go unstated
We’re talking about high level math. At least in my country, that’s stuff where you usually have to dig around in your memory to find an answer. And you need memories to do that.
It never did that for me, and I’ve a computer science degree (so, a lot of math). Over time, memory migrates into skill, yes, but there always is a part that requires memories. Usually that part that is either rarely used or relatively new.
It will literally take a superhero to save Walky from flunking math- except for the fact that Midterms don’t really matter, of course. (I assume, it’s been less than a year since the last one I took but I also took about as much care of my academics as Walky does of hsi)
If only Amber could hear you Amazi-Girl, only then she would reconsider her own self hatred and try to accept her flaws. If only. Now I understand why Willis causes the “Damn you, Willis!”.
It’s ironic that this reminds me of a scene where in that new ps4 Spider-Man game there’s a scene where Peter Parker tails and Miles Morales that the reason why so good at being Spider-Man is because he does calculations in his head all the time when he’s web swinging around.
I mean, not necessarily, but Amber might have difficulty being in a poly relationship, given her past reactions to Danny danning it up with her and AG.
In the real-world IU academic calendar for Fall 2019, students can drop a course up until Oct. 27 with an “automatic W.” A grade of W (for “withdrawn”) does not count on your GPA; it’s basically like you never took the class, except that anyone looking at your transcript knows that you took it and dropped it.
Of course, if Walky did do that, it might affect any scholarships he has, and if and when his mom finds out, she will go through the roof.
To the best of my knowledge, only Jason has made any kind of effort to tutor him till now, so I don’t know what you’re talking about. If you’re already at mid-terms it’s probably too late to drop.
Although I guess even hacked can’t prevent him from bombing future tests… too bad it’s not one of those classes that lets you exempt midterms/finals if your grades are good enough!
I admit I still can’t get over how chill Walky is with the realization that Amber and AG are separate personalities. He seems to think it’s a cool thing… Dude! It’s not. She’s really messed-up and she needs help…
Just for fun I’ve been looking at reference photos for this library, and now I’m wondering: WHAT KIND OF MONSTER ARCHITECTED THIS BUILDING? WHAT KIND OF BOARD APPROVED IT?
It’s a pair of towers, NEITHER OF WHICH HAS ANY WINDOWS ABOVE THE SECOND FLOOR! Even Rapunzel’s tower had windows on the top floor. I can only guess that the building was designed by the Morlocks to efficiently pen up the Eloi.
Buildings in academic campuses often tend to be contemporary art horrors because the board feels that they are obliged to promote new ideas in the arts. For example, there’s a building a Berkley that was so badly designed that climate control is essentially impossible and, in winter it’s various overhangs on the exterior becomes a lethal icicle launching arrays to potentially impale students walking below.
There’s the key to Amazi-Girl, IMO: She’s Amber’s desire to do good instead of harm, something that she’s genuinely afraid is all that she can do (and is slowly learning isn’t the case). A reminder that Amber really does find joy in helping people, no matter how awkward she is on a social level.
There is also so much sweet in this and it makes sense that, as Amber and Amazi-Girl both originated from the same root psyche, the two of them should both consider Walky attractive on a certain level. Not a ship, not yet, but Amazi-Girl sees the same things in Walky that Amber sees.
That’s a bit iffy to be using the word ‘should’ there. For some people with DID, yes, their alters will be attracted to the same people as them and have the same orientation, but that isn’t true for all alters or for all partners, especially because Protector alters can see partners as ‘potential threats’ and as such, be far pickier, and because some alters aren’t suited for dating like child alters for instance, which are common in systems.
I hope this doesn’t make Dorothy jealous. It’s one thing to pick Walky up on the rebound, but succeed at tutoring him when she couldn’t might cause her to snap.
Dorothy has had lots of causes to snap recently, this is just another one. I’m still expecting an eventual scene where Joyce has to deal with her having an emotional breakdown (possibly lubricated with Billie’s ‘secret’ stash).
From personal experience, I can confirm that it is easier to climb up stuff than it is to climb down. Something about not having to look down whilst going up, IMO.
Walky, accepting help is a legitimate way to pass your stated problem, PLUS you get to spend time interacting positively and HEALTHILY with someone you both like and who badly needs normal interaction.
Are you working at shooting down a win-win-win situation because you actively hate success and succeeding?
Do a reverse dismount, Walky. Turn around, brace your arms on the edge of the ledge, then hop off to catch your weight on your arms (don’t worry if you wind up belly-flopping against the wall. Happens often if you’re not used to this maneuver), then drop to the ground below. Cuts down on the height you have to drop by a good amount.
I doubt that she’s ready to do so. Amazi-Girl exists because of the fact that Amber believed herself to be a bad person and wanted to have a part of her that tried to turn her bad qualities to good deeds. So, right now, it’s a founding assumption of the Amazi-Girl psyche that Amber is beyond help. It will take a lot of evidence for her to believe otherwise and would probably spark an existential crisis for her.
Curiously enough, I interpret Amazi-Girl’s words as meaning that she hopes that, by doing good deeds as much as possible (or, at least, what she perceives to be good deeds), she will prove that she was not ‘too far gone’.
Here’s what I’m hoping to see here: Amber wakes up tomorrow morning with a voice mail on her ‘phone from Amazi-Girl telling her about Walky’s situation regarding calculus. “Help him learn. This is your chance to prove that you’re not beyond hope,” her alter-ego announces.
I feel like that’s a panel at Otakon: “Calculus and Cosplay”
Followed by “Geometry and Gundam” and for adults only “History and Hentai”.
So where is the enrollment information for this Otakon University again.
Time to learn about some bones, am I right?
Bones? I think that’s today’s Wilde Life comic.
omg spoiil
When you find it come get me, let’s be classmates
Pretty sure we actually did just have a History of Hentai panel this year at Otakon.
I think in this case it’s “Calculus and Foreplay.”
That’s across the hall; Trigonometry and Titilliation
I guess Ruth’s taking Femurs and Foreplay
Walky Performs a Death-Defying Parkour Stunt
Based on a reference photo I finally found, and depending on which corner of the wall he’s standing at, Walky is at most six feet off the ground, if he’s not at the three-feet end.
So I’ll give you Wrist-Break-Defying Parkour Stunt. Death-Defying? Only in his own mind.
If he rolls a natural 1, it could be Death-Defying.
Walky will be like a cat, lots of hissing and scratching but be very thankful once he is down.
Or at least twisted ankle defying.
Who says the only thing Amazi-girl is good for is punching people ?
I don’t.
“I punch the calculus!”
Great, now I imagine Amber’s Amazi-Voice sounding like Brick from Borderlands.
Brick would be encroaching on Zed’s turf with that. On the other hand, Brick’s version of “extracorporeal shockwave therapy” would probably be still be safer than what Mr. “I don’t have a medical license” would likely suggest.
Is a calculus more or less dangerous than a gazebo?
Hard to say. What’s the gazebo doing?
Amazi-Girl’s final form: Danny.
I fucking knew it
This is…surprisingly sweet. Might be good for both of them.
I don’t want them to, but if they started banging,
Amazi-Girl would be the new sidechick to her new sidekick
and I couldn’t just let that pun go unstated
Amazi-girl does a tutoring, the best thing she ever did.
Well not to knock on Amazi-girls work but it does hold more value than beating up some random punk on the street.
So they did share memories up to some point. She remembers having learned calculus.
Also, wise words, ag. Now tell that to Amber.
I read somewhere that there’s a difference between skills and personal memories
We’re talking about high level math. At least in my country, that’s stuff where you usually have to dig around in your memory to find an answer. And you need memories to do that.
Calculus is around the time where, at least for some people, math stops being about memorization again, so it could go either way.
It never did that for me, and I’ve a computer science degree (so, a lot of math). Over time, memory migrates into skill, yes, but there always is a part that requires memories. Usually that part that is either rarely used or relatively new.
There is a difference, but both can be dissociated away.
I saw a man walkin’ upside down
My TV is on the blink
Made Galileo look like a Boy Scout
Sorry ’bout that–Let It All Hang Out
good advice, ambermazigirl, maybe you should follow it once in a while
I am just picturing this playing out like Moetan, except super differently. Still, it’s a superheroine-kind of tutoring a dude.
Good moment, until Amazigirl realizes she doesn’t know calculus anymore because she’s partitioned that into the Amber half.
(Granted that’s totally not how this stuff works I imagine)
I think skills carry over, otherwise the new personalities would need to learn to talk and walk.
“Listen Amazigirl I want you to forget about everything that doesn’t have to do with crime fighting… and breathing.”
It can go either way.
Watching your brain snatch random skills like speech away from you in realtime would be fascinating if it wasn’t so damn terrifying.
I mean, you’d probably get a medical accommodation for your calculus exam date if you broke both your legs. Extra study time. Eh? Ehhh?
But if both his legs were broken he wouldn’t be very Walky.
*flees for dear punning life*
Both his arms, better yet.
Amazi-Girl Performs A Good Deed
It will literally take a superhero to save Walky from flunking math- except for the fact that Midterms don’t really matter, of course. (I assume, it’s been less than a year since the last one I took but I also took about as much care of my academics as Walky does of hsi)
Even if they don’t math builds on itself a lot.
If only Amber could hear you Amazi-Girl, only then she would reconsider her own self hatred and try to accept her flaws. If only. Now I understand why Willis causes the “Damn you, Willis!”.
Amazi-Girl trained and practiced for years to be the best at tutoring calculus.
She can also beat Batman at DDR.
Unless it’s Butterfly. He’s just got this knack she can never match.
At DDR? But that’s his specialty!
The line no one should feel too far gone really hit me. Thanks, I needed to hear that and didn’t even know it.
Agreed, that was an affecting panel. Makes me feel a little better about stuff.
Yeet the whole man off the structure
I love that Walky’s curse is that whoever he turns to, whatever he does, no matter how stupid or ridiculous, he never ever can escape math.
Pretending to be a superhero? SURE, now you will get mentored by a more experienced superhero… in math.
A++
It’s ironic that this reminds me of a scene where in that new ps4 Spider-Man game there’s a scene where Peter Parker tails and Miles Morales that the reason why so good at being Spider-Man is because he does calculations in his head all the time when he’s web swinging around.
What if both Amazi Girl AND Amber fall in love with Walky? Will they have to fight over him?
How would that even work, since they’re both in the same body?
I mean, not necessarily, but Amber might have difficulty being in a poly relationship, given her past reactions to Danny danning it up with her and AG.
She should text herself. “Met Walky, assisted with calc. Please wash uniform and use protection.”
“i want you in bed by 8”- AG
“Oh goddammit”
HARDCORE PARKOUR!!!
I’m glad someone else said it. Cause if you didn’t, I was going to. A day late when I remembered I went to bed early last night and missed the update.
Also:
Hardcore Parkour!
How many women are going to try and tutor Walky in calculus before he learns about dropping classes.
Isn’t it a little late for him to do that? The grace period must have been weeks ago in comic time. He could get a mark on his record if he drops now.
It’s only the middle of October in comic.
According to Jason, it’s too late for that now:
http://www.dumbingofage.com/2017/comic/book-7/03-the-thing-i-was-before/deadline/
To the best of my knowledge, only Jason has made any kind of effort to tutor him till now, so I don’t know what you’re talking about. If you’re already at mid-terms it’s probably too late to drop.
Didn’t Dorothy also try and help him with his grades for a while?
At some point Walky’s going to have to learn to study. Not sure that postponing that by dropping Calc is the best plan.
All good deeds, big and small, are equal to Amazi-Girl.
Walky, you’re not that high up. Just hop down.
The end over the top of the stairs, of course.
The only time you’re too far gone is when they’re lowering you 6ft underground.
“I’m Amazi-girl, and I can derive elements in a tangent space.”
Didn’t Amber hack Walky’s grades? I forget.
Although I guess even hacked can’t prevent him from bombing future tests… too bad it’s not one of those classes that lets you exempt midterms/finals if your grades are good enough!
He asked her not to. But without his knowledge, she scooched his grades up “just enough to keep him off academic probation.”
But that won’t help him if he blows the midterm.
So any moment now the fact Walky’s grades have been altered will edge its way into the scenario. Although, if he still thinks he’s failing…
It might be that, after being tutored, his actual performance meets his grades half-way, so the whole thing never really comes out.
I admit I still can’t get over how chill Walky is with the realization that Amber and AG are separate personalities. He seems to think it’s a cool thing… Dude! It’s not. She’s really messed-up and she needs help…

On the plus side, if you’re slain by an icicle, you don’t have to repay your student loans.
Where is this Berkley located? I was thinking of the one in California, but I can’t imag there’d be many instances of icicles there.
Looks like it was built in 1969. Brutalist Architecture was a thing then, so lots of big concrete buildings.
Where I went to college was no different: Folsom Library, 1976
The nice thing about Brutalist Architecture is that improving its design with a sledgehammer is within line of it’s original ascetic.
As it happens, McMansion Hell has up part one of a five-part series on Brutalism.

I’m not making a generalisation; I’m specifically talking about what I deduce from Amber/Amazi-Girl’s specific case as we’ve seen it portrayed so far.

Dorothy has had lots of causes to snap recently, this is just another one. I’m still expecting an eventual scene where Joyce has to deal with her having an emotional breakdown (possibly lubricated with Billie’s ‘secret’ stash).
How did Walky get up there so easily without figuring out how to get down? Is he a cat?
From personal experience, I can confirm that it is easier to climb up stuff than it is to climb down. Something about not having to look down whilst going up, IMO.
Walkerton doesn’t know Amber upped his Math grade to passing.
Nor does Amazi-Girl.
Still not going to help if he doesn’t catch up and start passing the rest of the semester.
Walky, accepting help is a legitimate way to pass your stated problem, PLUS you get to spend time interacting positively and HEALTHILY with someone you both like and who badly needs normal interaction.
Are you working at shooting down a win-win-win situation because you actively hate success and succeeding?

Happens often if you’re not used to this maneuver), then drop to the ground below. Cuts down on the height you have to drop by a good amount.
Just don’t catch your jaw on the wall, knock yourself out, and Jack up your ankles when you plummet like a rag doll to the ground.
… N-not that I am talking from experience or anything.
Please include Amber in that statement Amazigirl.
If Amber ever does accept that she’s not beyond help… will AG cease to exist?
NO
Alters fight for their survival – just as you would.
… if Cerberus has taught me one thing…
I bet those two gonna do the hanky-panky in the library. Amber gonna be shocked her alter ego also goes for Walky.
I wonder if Amazi-girl wants to help Walky because Amber like him or for a personal liking for him. However, it would be a nice thing to see.
Oh AG, you can’t make Walky think. You might be able to get him through Calc 1 though.
I would counter that knowing when to give up is a valuable skill. (Not that Walky has this skill.)
Doesn’t Dorothy hang out at the library? Dorothy who broke up with Walky like two days ago in comic time? If so, will she be in costume?
Here’s what I’m hoping to see here: Amber wakes up tomorrow morning with a voice mail on her ‘phone from Amazi-Girl telling her about Walky’s situation regarding calculus. “Help him learn. This is your chance to prove that you’re not beyond hope,” her alter-ego announces.
Amazi-Girl and Amber aren’t on speaking terms. Not even leaving each other messages terms.
This is like a Goofus and Gallant strip.
Amazi-Girl helpfully tutors you in Calculus.
Amber hacks your grades.
this just HAS to be set-up for AG finding about Amber changing Walky’s grades, doesn’t it?
that or the weirdest of threesomes.
I think I needed that line today.
