I think she already has multiple volumes of Ethan/Mike she’s been writing since the 6th grade.
She’ll let the borrow a few if they run out of ideas, though heaven knows how they’re going to replicate the thing with Unicron and the rubber chicken.
I bet she spends the extra 57 minutes of that CompSci class tweaking a deep learning AI model that’s trained on her existing library. The end goal is to be able to input a couple names and a setting, and have freshly minted smut pop out.
Even a simple markov chain generator trained on enough amateur smut will actually produce slightly better amateur smut about half the time by sheer chance.
See, this is why Ethan and Danny are being silly about not dating because of Amber. She’s not going to be mad, she’s going to get horny. You can’t have a negative reaction when you’re too busy masterbating.
While I do not care, wouldn’t a normal person find Amber asking for details on her gay friends sexual exploits just a wee bit creepy. I mean, if I was to ask a lesbian to text me details about her sexual experiences, I would not be surprised if she decided to go to the campus police.
The fetishization of queer people is not ideal. It is very Amber, though, and Ethan knows Amber, so he’s probably not surprised. They’re also close friends, so it gets into the aspects of their relationship as well, and it probably at least feels more okay between them than between strangers or casual acquaintances.
By ‘fetishization’, do you mean like straight people watching gay porn? Or vise-versa? I see that term, but I don’t really know what people mean by it.
It’s troubling because it reduces people to objects, and because the phantasy boils down to either wanting what you can’t have or not wanting to view someone of your own gender because it makes you feel gay.
Also, holy shit. Read a yaoi and get back to me. It’s always got that top bottom thing with horrible gender roles, and always with the rapy take on S&M.
A friend brought me to yaoi in my teens, and there weren’t that many available yet, and I read a bunch of relatively short, unfinished ones. Recently revisited one of them and was horrified by WHAT the heck kind of story plot I had actually enjoyed reading (namely, what you mentioned), usually happening, like, in the first chapter.
But then again, some of the shojo I used to read was also rather bad in that regard (I mean, the forced kisses by the ‘hero’ are still a ‘relatively innocent’ cliché, I believe). But there are also a few good out there (romantic Manga in general, but also BL), with good storylines, deep characters, that don’t resolve to such low plot points (such as romanticised rape).
and also, I kind of grew out of the yaoi phase relatively soon, but my friend tells me about them from time to time, because she enjoys reading them still – though she’s very selective).
to be fair, older western media is also full of romanticised rape (or similar no-means-yes issues). >.< I tried to watch Rocky once and didn't get all the way through because of that 😛
With manga, I sometimes get the feeling there are more warnings about “adult content” on the ones that depict connected good sex than on those that depict actual rape.
I started reading Yaoi because Yuri was few and far between and with Yaoi, these’s the chance I don’t get turned off by obvious power imbalances. A slight chance. Gave up again on it recently because the constant “the first time will hurt” cliche annoyed me no end.
Though I admin I was confused when I found my public online lending library has a series of pornographic novelettes around twin gay tweens, one of whom is into great love and the other one is into having sex wherever he can. I don’t think that book was aimed to be read by teenage gay boys…
It’s a bit of a complicated term and everyone would give you a different answer, but imo it’s less about watching porn (which is more private) and more about letting that color how you view gay people IRL. Like, yknow, lesbians getting told to make out for a male audience because it’d be hot, or taking their relationship less seriously than a straight one and only valuing it for its “sexiness” (hence why most lesbian couples in media tend to be femme/femme, since it’s assumed to be more attractive for the majority of the audience). So, viewing gay people as a porn category rather than people, really.
It happens to gay guys too, just, on a different scale I guess? I’m not one so I wouldn’t know.
Yeah, that makes more sense to me. To some extent all porn is objectifying, but straights and gay porn doesn’t have to be especially so. What turns you on is personal and not really under your control.
It’s when it gets outside of that private level to affect your real life views that it’s a problem.
I don’t know. If those two were both female, cis and het, wouldn’t be “I want *all* the details” be counted as an expression of how close they are?
And how much of those details besties share turn them on?
Amber might be turned on more than average. Still, though it’s slightly weird territory, I wouldn’t say it’s creepy.
Not sure if Amber wants details cause they’re friends or cause she has a long history of being iffy about fetischizing gay couples. Like, there’s a subgroup of straight women who do it and it’s gross.
I think it’s less about whether it’s literally a fetish, and more… what Ainara said? “viewing gay people as a porn category rather than people” – like, treating real people as objects for your entertainment is bad.
I think I prefer my erotica gay (whatever the gender), but seeing an actual gay couple kiss is awkward and feels like I’m intruding on a private moment. (same as with any couple really)
Ethan and Amber have argued before, about when Amber wanted to be a social recluse and not talk to the other girls on her floor about Blaine. Amber shot back that Ethan shouldn’t have been re-closeting himself.
Word of Willis suggests it was just heavy making out.
*Obligatory “Of course, virginity is more a social construct than anything, I’m sure Becky and Dina have shared moments that probably wouldn’t have been any more intimate if they were doin’ the do.”
Is Carla? I suppose it’d stand to reason. She’s shown attraction to Malaya, but not a lot of interest in human companionship, otherwise.
That does lead me into thinking, some of it comes down to who is considered a main cast member, and if we are just inferring virginity sometimes. Like, we haven’t seen Sarah have sex, not counting Jacob 2, but we also aren’t given a reason to think she is specifically a virgin, either.
So much desperation in one page, but I’m with her I don’t care about consequences anymore just do whatever you want even if it comes back to bight you.
( okay I’m lying I’m totally worried about the consequences)
Ethan: “We’re not fucking! Where’d you get that idea?”
Amber: “Look at where you’re sitting! What two people eat together eat on the same side of a table except weird couples?!? And there’s plenty of space to your left, yet you’re practically sitting on him!”
I could see that being anearly issue and the same thing could be said about Walky with Sal and Billie. Sal left for a few years so to cope he low key replaced her with Billie.
I think Billie herself said it to Carla after she and the Walkertons had gotten cookies and stuff. When Billie was asking Carla to check in on Ruth regularly.
Man, I don’t like this storyline.
Mostly because Mike is such a toxic person, and Ethan is such a nice and in some ways pretty naive person, and here he is being taken advantage of and messed with for no other reason than that Mike wants to cause him pain.
You know, I had to Google ‘negging’ to see if it was a real thing and not just a misspelling of ‘nagging’. We’re only about two months into the semester. Setting aside for a moment that she is OK with, if not actually promoting a gay relationship, when did our Joyce — sweet, sheltered, naive, non-swearing Joyce — get so hip into the language and terms of social media?
Mike has gotten Amazi-Girl involved in his masochistic kinkiness without her consent, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he was just always negging everyone all the time.
I’m wondering if Mike isn’t actually doing this for a scheme. The flashback they showed makes me think Mike and Ethan have been in love for a long time, and that’s why he was so hard on Ethan about going back in the closet.
The idea is to give a sideways compliment or observation that hints at an issue that will make the target self-conscious.
In the comic, asking a girl you’ve never met “looks like you’re on a diet, that’s great! How’s that fruit plate?” implies that the woman SHOULD be on a diet, which in theory undermines her self-confidence and makes her an easier target to “pick up.”
It can be done very subtly. “I love your dress, I don’t have the confidence to show off my body like that” will get her thinking about her body and confidence and how she didn’t realize she was trying to show it off, she was just trying to dress nice, is this too slutty? and so on.
I am usually the first one to defend these characters when someone says they don’t like them, but I seriously find myself liking Amber less and less with her every appearance and that makes me sad.
Well thats certainly creepy, but I see Im in the minority here. I believe there is a difference between freely sharing info between friends and demanding a written full report. Id probably drop a friend if I knew they wanted it to get off on too, my life isnt a substitute for porn.
Definitely would be a bit creepy out of the blue, but it’s not out of the blue here. Ethan knows Amber’s interests. They’ve talked about it. He’s read the slashfic.
“I… may accept video if writing is too much for you”
“Roz will let you borrow her setup for a 10% commission.”
I hope it wasn’t the videos that were on the thumb drive. Maybe it was just Dawn of Buttstuff instead.
We may never know.
“Better yet, let me record it for you. So you can focus on – *AHEM* the stuff I ‘Don’t Want To Hear About’.”
I love how she is just hiding in the background xD
Amber’s peaking blush face! I died!
Basically, Amber voted for the Slipshine.
I choose to believe this is how their entire life together has been. Amber getting mad and walking out only to text Ethan immediately afterwards
Yes I declare this canon despite not having the Authority to.
We each have final authority over our own headcanon.
It’s what separates us from the lower primates.
But what if my headcanon is that the lower primates also have final authority over their headcanons?
If your monkey has strong feelings about which Highlander movies “count,” listen to your monkey.
I appreciate that she can’t help herself but doesn’t want to give Mike the satisfaction.
Accurate representation of me when my friends do the do
By the by do they do the do by you?
Yeah I’m going to bed now
Yeah, likewise.
Well, apart from the texting. I basically just say that to any of my friends who are with new partners.
“DETAILS!” – me.
Details or didn’t happen
And it did happen rite so DETAILS now, plz NAO
so.. that’s not just a tv thing?
by the time I was old enough for dating to be more than “omg we held hands!!” my closest friends were guys, so talking wasn’t really going to happen.
What about when they do the Dew? Do you want to watch them pull off stunts on their skateboards and bicycles?
I do! Hilarity typically ensues, as well as fail videos for YouTube. :3
I need to know…for science.
Soooo who was here yesterday saying that she was protective of ethan and disapproved of it?
She probably would be if she realised there was more than just casual boytouching going on.
She pretty clearly does not trust Mike’s motivations, but she thinks the mental imagery is really hot, so she’s conflicted about it.
She definitely doesn’t like how Mike is talking to him. That’s why she points out the almost-negging in panel 2.
Ethan is the most teenage girl ever.
So he doesn’t suck that hard at being gay? (Which, now I see how Amber could get suspicious, that wording is quite something.)
Is amber…not gonna sit with her friends now?
She’s going with the voyeur tactic
Optimal peepin’ positioning.
Well, she didn’t seem to keen on sitting with them last strip either, so
sitting with mike? I wouldn’t want to do that either.
especially given amber’s mental state lately.
And nobody knows what goes on Behind Closed Doors…
No one else was in the room where it happened
the room where it happened
Amber needs to optimize the slash fics of them she already wrote
How much did Willis get paid by Nike for using their slogan?
I guess tomorrow we will see some Nike shoes.
She needs it for the fanfiction.
Oh who am I kidding she’s probably already writing the first draft.
Half expected the Amazi-Girl tag
It would be great if she switched identities to properly ogle this.
Amber: “I totally disapprove of this, and will have no part of it!” (flees toward phone booth)
Amazi-Girl: “I come bearing coconut oil and helpful diagrams!”
A great use of a secret identity, or the greatest use of a secret identity?
It seems to work for Bat Man.
She’s very gently pushing this ship into the water. 😛
The website BBCC.com became relevant to my life today, and I felt that was something I needed to share with someone here.
The Birmingham Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce? I’m sensing a story here.
Your story senses may be off, because if there’s anything that could be considered a “story” in this, it’d be really boring at best.
But I did do a double take at the link, like “Hey, I know her!”
Shit, has my secret identity been exposed? 😛
You were really a Chamber of Commerce this whole time! And not even a Canadian one!
I want my lawyer. You can’t prove anything. 😛
That is some expressive Ethan, very nice work!
Seconded, his expressions in this one made my day. (…night? Early morning? Who even knows anymore?)
Subsequent 24 hour period… 🙂
Agreed, his expressions in panels 3 and 6 are fantastic
That was not in the slightest bit surprising. I’m sure Amber has already written several slash fics of Mike and Ethan by now.
erotic friendfiction
Writing sex scenes is notoriously difficult. She needs the information to improve her slashfic.
See, this is why Ethan and Danny are being silly about not dating because of Amber. She’s not going to be mad, she’s going to get horny. You can’t have a negative reaction when you’re too busy masterbating.
Well, you could, but you’d look ridiculous.
Yeah, hatesex is one thing, but hatemasturbating…
Honestly, given how bad of a mental state Amber’s been in lately, this is probably the healthiest response possible for her.
While I do not care, wouldn’t a normal person find Amber asking for details on her gay friends sexual exploits just a wee bit creepy. I mean, if I was to ask a lesbian to text me details about her sexual experiences, I would not be surprised if she decided to go to the campus police.
Not if she was your best friend. She still wouldn’t do it, but you’d probably get the same reaction Ethan gives Amber.

I’d be a bit creeped out too. I can see that Amber means it as a friendly ‘I want all the details’ type thing but still….no thank you.
Would it be different if it was straight couple friends that Amber was dishing for details?
*slightly* less creepy. but still creepy.
I don’t know. If those two were both female, cis and het, wouldn’t be “I want *all* the details” be counted as an expression of how close they are?

I mean, friends talk about their sex lives with each other all the time. It really depends on the person.
Obviously irl it’d be creepy if it happened in the way Amber does it here (“I WANT TO KNOW BECAUSE IT’S HOT”) but, yknow, played ofr laughs
“for”, even
i swear i know how to spell
Depends on where you live. Where I live that’s really not a topic you talk about to people. Maybe it’s just me, idk. 😛
I’m not sure, but I think this is the first time we’ve ever seen Ethan angry?
And even so, he’s looking more irritated than actually angry.
He’s not angry, he’s being fake outraged.
Ethan and Amber have argued before, about when Amber wanted to be a social recluse and not talk to the other girls on her floor about Blaine. Amber shot back that Ethan shouldn’t have been re-closeting himself.
Ah okay, Ethan is presumably still a virgin, then.
As far as the main cast goes, that’s something of a rarity.
Joyce, Becky, Dina, and (presumably) Carla are too. (Although, sadly, Carla isn’t quite main cast. Yet.)
Not Becky. I thought that she was caught in the act.
Word of Willis suggests it was just heavy making out.
*Obligatory “Of course, virginity is more a social construct than anything, I’m sure Becky and Dina have shared moments that probably wouldn’t have been any more intimate if they were doin’ the do.”
*I assumed that was implied. Plus at least half of us have read Girls with Slingshots.
Don’t know if Ethan is an actual virgin, but likely, considering the circumstances of his coming out to his family.
If I recall Ethan realized he was gay after haveing sex with Amber on prom night.
It didn’t get quite that far yet, if I remember correctly.
“while failing to have sex”, I believe.
I appreciate her haha
So…. no boffin’? Only Dilly-dallying.
It’s like oral sex squared.
And a lot of shilly shallying, but no making nice nice.
Who voyeurs the voyeurs?
Us of course.
I believe Willis has already written a Shipshine about Amber masturbating to superhero slashifc, so, yeah.
… complete with dialogue snippets to add realism to my slashfic
So much desperation in one page, but I’m with her I don’t care about consequences anymore just do whatever you want even if it comes back to bight you.
( okay I’m lying I’m totally worried about the consequences)
Yes, illustrations. Amber needs those. Strictly For Academic Purposes of course.
ethan ahego
Double peace sign, homie.
im glad im not the only one who thought it https://imgur.com/a/LbWnBMk
And pics, if possible.
Ethan: NO
Mike: Here is the Slipshine link
Geez, Amber! Don’t creep on your friends.
Yeah, don’t be a Daniela Velasquez.
They love Dani though. She’s their family <3 (I find her whole obsession with gay sex slightly creepy too, but she is more than that)
Make your own written account, Amber.
If they won’t give you DETAILS, make up your own!
Ethan: “We’re not fucking! Where’d you get that idea?”
Amber: “Look at where you’re sitting! What two people eat together eat on the same side of a table except weird couples?!? And there’s plenty of space to your left, yet you’re practically sitting on him!”
I think that Faz’s big problem is that he’s trying to muscle in to the emotional territory that Ethan has held for many years.
I could see that being anearly issue and the same thing could be said about Walky with Sal and Billie. Sal left for a few years so to cope he low key replaced her with Billie.
Wow this went a little bit far off topic.
Extrapolating a bit here, but I think the rest of Sal’s family low key replaced her with Billie long before Sal left for a few years.
Pretty sure Sal had said something *like* that, if not those precise words.
I think Billie herself said it to Carla after she and the Walkertons had gotten cookies and stuff. When Billie was asking Carla to check in on Ruth regularly.
“And then he rubbed his thing all over my tummy…”
“Ooohhh”
Then Amber shares it with Joyce who illustrates it
Off.
I just.
This whole circle has so much to sort out
The Hungry Smut shipper demon awakened in her.
“Awakened”? Want it just last week that she said she didn’t want to promote everyone to family because it made shipping awkward?
In-universe, it was last night.
Well… it awakened from a nap?
Okay, this pairing is starting to get really fun.
Ethan is the Final Boy in the Amazi-Girl Slasher movie.
This whole interaction was a trainwreck in so many ways.
Keep watching.
Man, I don’t like this storyline.
Mostly because Mike is such a toxic person, and Ethan is such a nice and in some ways pretty naive person, and here he is being taken advantage of and messed with for no other reason than that Mike wants to cause him pain.
Cause Danny pain. Don’t forget the end-game.
Welcome to a DYW comic.
How can she tell Mike’s negging Ethan? Telling people they’re not good enough is basically all Mike DOES.
My kids are a decade beyond this age and I know. Don’t want to know such a thing exists, but life doesn’t always give you a choice.
That’s Amber, though.
That’s probably why she said “practically negging”
Mike has gotten Amazi-Girl involved in his masochistic kinkiness without her consent, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he was just always negging everyone all the time.
THIS IS ADORABLE
and @jbento she can tell Mike’s negging him because Ethan’s going along with it
Slipshine title?
Mike and Ethan’s Full Written Account
the Slipshine is just a text document
I’m wondering if Mike isn’t actually doing this for a scheme. The flashback they showed makes me think Mike and Ethan have been in love for a long time, and that’s why he was so hard on Ethan about going back in the closet.
XKCD comic about negging:
https://xkcd.com/1027/
The idea is to give a sideways compliment or observation that hints at an issue that will make the target self-conscious.
In the comic, asking a girl you’ve never met “looks like you’re on a diet, that’s great! How’s that fruit plate?” implies that the woman SHOULD be on a diet, which in theory undermines her self-confidence and makes her an easier target to “pick up.”
It can be done very subtly. “I love your dress, I don’t have the confidence to show off my body like that” will get her thinking about her body and confidence and how she didn’t realize she was trying to show it off, she was just trying to dress nice, is this too slutty? and so on.
I won’t know what to think if the first gay Slipshine is Ethan and Mike instead of Ethan and Danny. Like….find a way, Willis.
Technically Sayid and some other boy was the first gay slipshine
I am usually the first one to defend these characters when someone says they don’t like them, but I seriously find myself liking Amber less and less with her every appearance and that makes me sad.
Is it me, or does it look like Ethan got a few of his teeth knocked out in the first panel?
That’s what happens when one makes out with Mike
Of course she is mad at Ethan and Mike, but she is also a slash fic reader and she can’t waster a chance of hearing how two men smooched.
That Amber face peeking over the back of the seat in the last panel is perfect. So cute.
I will also require a full written account and will not be opposed to an addition of graphical depictions of such event.
*sees the extra text when hovering over the panel* FORESHADOWING!
Amber! TOO SUPPORTIVE!!!
AMBER.
