I’m hoping they decide their mascot’s cursed and change it. Looking at a caricature of an entire race during every World Series game was, shall I say, super uncomfortable.
At least they didn’t get owned 10-0 by some no-name team I’d never even heard of today like the Montreal Canadiens, or as I like to call them, the Habs-Beens.
Well to be fair, the Cubs’s losing streak isn’t any shorter, it’s just not current or getting any longer. The list won’t get shorter until the Leafs’s streak surpasses the Cubs’s.
Rumors that George Lucas acquired the rights to Back to the Future, and will produce a special edition with the year corrected (and a Jar-Jar easter egg) could not be confirmed or refuted.
No, see, while the initial 2015 timeline shown in BttF2 does in fact show the Cubs winning in that year, the further events of BttF3 — most obviously, Marty avoiding the street-racing accident that injured his hand in the original — made changes to that timeline. One of the butterflies has kept Queen Elizabeth alive, another made Obama beat Hillary, and a third, obviously, moved the Cubs victory back a year. No need for retcons :p
There’s something to be said for taking the average of two estimates.
Most poll sites estimated Clinton to have, what, an 85% chance of winning? And Trump probably thought she had a 0% chance of winning. If you take the average, you get 42.5%. Clinton got 232 out of 540 electoral votes, which is 43%. (Probably just a coincidence, though, especially since I was using very rough estimates.)
You’ll be waiting a long time yet if this year’s opening game was any indicator. Get a hotshot rookie who does a feat even Gretz didn’t manage — four goals in his first NHL game — and the Make-Believes still dropped the game… 5-4.
Which just goes to show that it takes a team, not just a single great player. Gretzky didn’t win a single Stanley Cup after being traded off the Oilers.
The Kings were a pretty stacked team, though, and did wind up going to the finals in ’93, only to lose to the Habs — last time a Canadian team has held the Cup. 🙁
Going to be a long wait. As long as rabid Leafs fans will keep paying hundreds of dollars for tickets to watch them lose, there is no reason for them to even try to put together a winning team, much less put out any real effort on the ice. Felt bad for that rookie, he was killing it and they still couldn’t get a win.
Meanwhile I was telling to a friend that is amusing how soccer is so popular given that Mexico never wins and while baseball popularity went down they tend to do better XD
When I moved to the East Bay, the San Francisco Giants had never won a World Series. Great, I like barracking for the underdog, thay are now my team. I went to games, watched them miss out repeatedly. I actually got to enjoy baseball. Suddenly they win Three World Series in Five Years. Now everyone is telling me I am only going for them because they are a glamour team. Baseball fans are sore losers.
I had a similar experience growing up in Denver back way before Elway. Biggest losers in the NFL back then. Weird thing was, when they finally got around to being a winning team, they were a completely different team: different players, different coaches—Hell, even the logo and uniforms had changed. To give you an idea how alien they became, consider this: our big conference rival was the then Oakland Raiders. One of the biggest solidarity boosters on the Broncos back in the losing years was a defensive back named Lyle Alzado. By the time theBroncos started winning games, Alzado was playing for the enemy—he’d become a big booster for the Raiders.
C’mon, Ruth, it hasn’t been that long…. only 49 years since the last time the Leafs hoisted the Cup. There’s even people still alive who remember that!
I A my legitamly enjoying this. In short packed she just kind of did things with no repercussions but now, because of something she did as a public official, she is facing a very real backlash. This is something Robin’s Character always needed. To actually see the weight of her power, not just after some Cadbury black out, but as it was happening.
Speaking as a Canucks fan: “They’re both so adorable.”
Joyce is not making Ruth’s recovery any easier.
Ouch 🙁
I’m in the same boat as Ruth, my team hasn’t won a damned thing since I was born #forest.
Which Forest is that?
Nottingham Forest, the poor buggers.
http://xkcd.com/1759/
My team started in 1977 and has never been to the World Series, much less won it, and hasn’t even been to the playoffs since 2001.
However, the Cleveland Indians haven’t won a World Series since 1948, so that’s much worse.
I’m hoping they decide their mascot’s cursed and change it. Looking at a caricature of an entire race during every World Series game was, shall I say, super uncomfortable.
As a Chicagoan who doesn’t care about baseball but got to go home early from work today, GO CUBS!!
Fuck you right in the ear, Willis.
At least they didn’t get owned 10-0 by some no-name team I’d never even heard of today like the Montreal Canadiens, or as I like to call them, the Habs-Beens.
On the other hand, the Habs have won their fair share.
Yup. First thought when they won: “Holy crap, the Cubs actually won it.”
Second thought: “Dammit. The list of teams with losing streaks longer than the Leafs just got smaller.”
Well to be fair, the Cubs’s losing streak isn’t any shorter, it’s just not current or getting any longer. The list won’t get shorter until the Leafs’s streak surpasses the Cubs’s.
Too good.
Seeing Ruth’s green eyes it makes me think that she’ll go Hulk on Joyce any second now…
This made me laugh way more than a non-sports fan should.
Was waiting for this xD the minute they won I checked to see if walky dropped a preemptive pic lol
Back to the Future was one year late…

What you’re saying is, if Marty had gotten into a car accident, that’d cause us all to have a fax machine in every room for some reason.
I guess there’s at least one upside to all this.
NO JAR-JAR
It’s okay, Parks and Recreation apparently predicted it for 2017, so if you take both into account, it averages out to the correct year.

Nah, look, see?
Us Leafs fans are still waiting…

GJ.
Exactly, foamy

Try praying. Now that God has answered the Cubs fans’ prayers, maybe they’ll stop pestering Him and He’ll have time to listen to yours now.
Because He sure ain’t paying attention to anything coming from Minnesota involving the Viqueens.

To be fair, the leafs have never won a world series because they don’t have a hockey world series. I think.
hockey has a world cup but its like soccer and is actually a world tournament.
I feel for Ruth, but prior to this the last time the Cubs won the god damned Ottoman Empire still exsisted.
Urge to kill…. rising…
Meanwhile I was telling to a friend that is amusing how soccer is so popular given that Mexico never wins and while baseball popularity went down they tend to do better XD
Since before my Great Grandparents were born.

Wow, Ruth…you could see that salt on your face from space.
C’mon, Ruth, it hasn’t been that long…. only 49 years since the last time the Leafs hoisted the Cup. There’s even people still alive who remember that!
Yeah, like maybe her Grandfather, who has been rubbing her face in it for years…
If I were a Leafs fan, that’d be a deep cut, especially with the Jays losing the ALCS. But I’m not a Leafs fan, so it’s all good.
That leaf on Ruth’s jersey looks _remarkably_ like a middle finger.
I needed this after all the political… Stuff that’s going on. Thank you for the laugh Willis. Ruth’s face is just adorable.

I DON’T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT.
