Huh. Considering her description of orgasms, I wonder how she would describe lesbian sex. The same way, or would she modify based on the lack of possible fertilization?
Alternatively, I wonder if Dina realizes that it take at least a few days for an egg to be fertilized, and that orgasms have nothing to do with that process (the actual fertilization, not the likelihood of successfully reaching that point).
I feel Dina does realize this, shes just phrasing sex in terms of human evolution, and by extent the evolution of sexual reproduction, or vice versa as Dinos are her fav point references.
Actually, while one is not inherently dependent on the other, female climax can facilitate an increase in the likelihood of fertilization to a certain degree..
Is it bad that I want to strike up a conversation on how female climax can facilitate and increase in the likelihood of fertilization to a certain degree?
“The pageantry of tricking your body into thinking an egg is fertilized” I believe is an accurate description any amount, method or source of sexual please. The actual mechanics of procreation don’t really come into the body’s ability to derive pleasure from rubbing your genitals or licking your soulmate’s eyeball or whatever you do to get off, the body is very easy to trick that way.
Dina probably keeps a log book of their sexual activities, much like Dorothy does with her own.
Wed 8/15, 6pm: Third session today. Vigorous and enthusiastic, from both parties. Noting a correlation between multiple sex sessions a day and comic book day. Causation? Requires further study.
….or possibly more than once? I had that same thought. Dina seems to have an uncomfortable amount of inside information on their sex life.
Unless, of course, Dina likes to watch, and Amber and Danny enjoy having an audience. That wouldn’t be my cup of tea, personally, but then I’ve always been pretty vanilla about sex in practice.
Of course, that would seem to contradict what Amber said about enjoying not having to think of Amber as a sexual being, but that’s beside the point.
I doubt they forgot, necessarily. Keep in mind that Dina is extremely quiet, relatively small, and enjoys hiding behind doors. It’s entirely possible that Danny/AG burst into the room making out, glanced around, and went to the fun without noticing Dina in the corner. Or that Dina opened the door while Danny/AG were distracted, walked into her room, and fell asleep in her bed without Danny/AG noticing her at all.
Well if Danthan is to become a thing, Ethan needs to study in the Danny Wilcox Method of *REDACTED* things up. He’s getting there, and will attain mastery in due time.
oh see i was confused because i thought she was observing to herself the awkward social happening that is Danny/Ethan and their conversation.
This makes more sense, Talking about Amber and Danny and
how they “Do the thing to do the orgasm(which would normally be a decent qualifiery with “eggs have probably been bathed in Man-Juice enough if it wasnt for the condom int he way, ect) until both people are happy”
“They trick their bodies into thinking they’re making babies, and they do this as often as they want.”
The evolutionary advantage of sex is reproduction. This reproduction involves an egg being fertilized. People who enjoy sex are very common only because people who enjoy sex produce more offspring. Dina is indicating that sex is an act of making your bodies think that you’re reproducing successfully, when you might be preventing that from happening altogether. This is a pretty clever way of looking at it.
GO SCIENCE!!
Those, in a nutshell, is the facts of life, or the T. rexes and the bees, if you will.
(PS Is rexes the plural of rex, or is it reces or somesuch?)
According to Wiktionary the plural in the nominative, accusative and vocative cases is “reges” in Latin (the use in taxonomy being in that language). That said I’m uncertain whether you’d pluralize like that seeing how it’s the proper name of the species and such pluralizing would theoretically indicate two such taxonomic groups rather than two members of that group. “T. Rexes” is proably the common usage in English anyway. Anyway here’s the link to the Wictionary page I took that from.
Umm. Saurus is a Greek word in Latin form — the direct transliteration is “sauros”. Dual should be -sauro and plural -sauroi. But by the time you’ve got to “Tyrannosauro reges” (or “Tyrannosauroi reges” if it’s a threesome or orgy) you probably have three grammars in a single sentence, and something bad is going to happen.
All evidence of my research suggests that Tyranosaurus rex is the scientifically correct for both plural and singular. You folks were helpful in reaching that scientific conclusion. However, if I encounter strong scientific evidence that Tyrannosaurus rex is not the correct plural, I will accept that evidence, for I am not a science denier.
Agemegos, I agree, something very bad could happen. That’s at least two grammars in one noun alone. And what’s this about orgies? Do the Greeks use special plurals for groups in an orgy, and another set of plurals for everything else? I knew that orgies used to be common, but not THAT common! Wow!
According to alt text earlier in the book, the title of book 5 will be “Hey, Guess What? I’m a Lesbian!” I mean I think that stands until another alt text says another line of dialogue will be used.
Recent evidence has revealed that D. saruyamensis was an extremely intelligent species. Paleontologists believe that D. saruyamensis, although not a very social species, was able to observe aspects of other species in a way that has not yet been observed in a living or extinct species outside of humans. These cognitive abilities may have included awareness of emotional states (although not the awareness needed to quickly and properly react), and a certain degree of self-awareness and analysis. At any rate, D. saruyamensis was almost certainly possessed more awareness of environmental cues and more self-awareness than the considerably less aware D. wilcoxii.
D. saruyamensis clearly went through a transformative period of study within her genus, first cited when D. wilcoxii caught the wandering eye of D. omalleis.
We really got to come up with set Dino names. Now for Amber do we want to use A. malsaurus or D. omalleis cause I could go either way. I was basing the first letter on their first name.
I saw other people setting the genus of all of them as Doa (for good reason) and we shall see where it goes from there. Only question is, how then do we deal with the Walkerton twins?
The common convention for dinosaur species taxonomy does not assign the suffix “-saurus” to species names, only to genus names. In order to fully validify these names, a genus name is required. Doasaurus walkerton cibumportio has been accepted as a synonym for S. walksaurus. Similarly, Doasaurus omalleis would be a suitable synonym for A. malsaurus.
…Either Dina knows because they keep asking her to leave the room, or because she’s always in the room. Either way as the audience, we win, but I would like to know which it is XD
There are less gross answers. She may be out of the room and hear it. She may see occasional pieces of condom wrappers and put 2 and 2 together. A paleontologist should be able to induce what happened in the past based on small amounts of physical evidence.
I’ve been noticing that the strip, which is supposed to load at 11:01 for my timezone. Is not. I’ve known a couple of girls in my time who could get out a statement like that with a polish sausage stuck in their gobs. This may be a euphemism, but the point stands that coherent speech in that circumstance is a remarkable achievement, and is yet another exemplar of why women are, in fact, superior to men.
Guys…well, guys just tend to drool or slobber and make muffled noies of no value as language.

Right. He didn’t understand until he talked to Dorothy, so now he’s trying to verify with someone in the know that he can have a valid attraction to both men and women.
Side note, I like how we can have a character where their coming out isn’t dramatic and terrible as it has been for Becky and Ethan. It’s important to bring to light the awful reality that LGBT kids face from their parents and peers, but I also appreciate Danny’s casual clumsy fumbling.
I think that Ethan is glad that his good friend Amber has a boyfriend that makes her happy and is happy in turn.
Another point on the board for Dina being a homoromantic asexual. I find it quite possible that she uses her invisibility to silently observe Danny and Amber. She doesn’t find it arousing, just a fascinating sociological and biological academic study.
Am I the only one that’s just hoping Danny gets his hands on some good literature about bisexuality? Like, as cute as his interactions with Ethan are, I just want him to get informed. And/or possibly ditch his internalized homophobia. Sigh.
They are at the educational home of Alfred Kinsey (as previously established) so it shouldn’t be all that hard. It’s just going to take a while, because taught biases have uncanny staying power that takes time as well as logic to erode (and from what I can tell, Willis can attest to that).
Same here. Danny’s now in a position where he’s going to want to be informed and he can’t rely on past assumptions. Danny’s story is very much the ignorant straight guy thrown into something that clashes with his heteronormative views.
Dina’s comment may not be the most socially appropriate one for this situation (or any situation) but I suspect that has not occurred to her in this moment. She’s trying to help, and sometimes the right way to go about doing so isn’t easy to figure out, especially for those of us who struggle to develop social skills.
After years of social withdrawal, brought on in part by being me, and exacerbated by repeated instances of bullying and being disparaged, I entered my freshman year of college determined to have a fresh start, and to become a normal, social individual. This plan backfired in all kinds of ways I won’t get into here, primarily due to the social skills I had utterly failed to develop.
On one occasion, I was working food service in the dining hall at breakfast. When a couple of my housemates came up to get breakfast, I remarked to them that one of the hot cereals looked like vomit. The two of them just exchanged bewildered looks, and I had no clue where I went wrong.
I was (and to an extent, still am) prone to cover up gaps in social functioning with humor. In those days, it often didn’t occur to me that there was a time and place for my sparkling observational wit. That situation in the dining hall was not the time, the place, and my observation really wasn’t funny. However, at that time, I had no clue I was being inappropriate. I could come up with other examples, but I won’t.
Maybe what Dina said wasn’t the “right” thing to say in that situation, but I can very much identify with her, especially thinking back to what I was like at that same age.
Nothing says that anyone attending this has to be gay, exclusively, Ethan. Danny’s just a little bi-curious, Walky’s technically gay-for-pay (if the pay is pizza, and the only gay thing you have to do is say so, temporarily), one of the organizers is straight, Dina’s a bit more on the asexual side… it takes Diff’rent Strokes to move the world.
am I the only one who wants a internal monologue bubble in the first panel showing Dina being so focused on the Pizza she does not notice Danny asking her not to tell Amber???
She DID take notes! =D

Is it bad that I want to strike up a conversation on how female climax can facilitate and increase in the likelihood of fertilization to a certain degree?
Only if you do it right.
.
Wait, I can only do it if I do right, or is bad that only if I do it right?
Okay joking aside, I’ll just research on my own.
This is acceptable =3
I think that Dina knows perfectly well why people have sex, but she enjoys playing into her assigned role as “strange logical dinosaur girl”.
I was about to comment this but then I saw you had and went yesgood
I agree. Dina likes dinosaurs. Where do dinosaurs and sex intersect? Eggs.
*pleasure. Aaa first impression ruined

Grappling hook misfire count:
23Stop Ethanning it up, Ethan !
Also for the love of everything unholy I hope Danny/Amber didn’t forget Dina was still in the room once <_<
For the sake of my sadism, I hope they did.
Maybe Dina has a Slipshine account?
Yes! She is a creeper who got it when she found out her friends wee posted there.
Until one day: “I do not recall performing such an act upon Becky. Copious notation is required.”
All Slipshine panels are drawn from Dina’s viewpoint.
Who knows, maybe they’re all into that.
Who says they forgot?
You think it was only ONCE? Dina has seen ALL the sexing.
Well of course. All the nsfw DoA releases had to be from someone’s perspective. Who better?
So that’s how she was able to afford a Tricera-Top as a college student. All that Slipshine money (this is now my headcanon)
No, it’s not about money, for Dina. She is collecting valuable information about sexual behavior. She is the Alfred Kinsey of her generation.
Sometimes money and observing intercourse can coexist. Dina is simply being optimal
Not just the DoA works. Ghost Dina is watching you bone.
I would be okay with this, were I getting Treasure Type O lately.
Nooooooo…
Behind Door Dina is watching you copulate!
“… Mammals are weird.”

Or that Dina opened the door while Danny/AG were distracted, walked into her room, and fell asleep in her bed without Danny/AG noticing her at all.
What Amber said about enjoying not having to think of *Dina* as a sexual being.
Dina likes to watch – but only for purely academic reasons.
Sure, but when I say that, it’s a matter for the police
She apparently generates a low-level Someone Else’s Problem field, so not forgetting her isn’t that simple.
Well, this was fun, but more seriously people, she knows to vacate location when things gets awkard (like earlier this arc).
Is Ethaning it up like Dannying it up, but with Transformers?
Because of so Michael Bay totally Ethaned everything up.
Well if Danthan is to become a thing, Ethan needs to study in the Danny Wilcox Method of *REDACTED* things up. He’s getting there, and will attain mastery in due time.
Hooray for Dina and SCIENCE!
And boning!
And pizza!
(and subs)
Science boning!
Or as we knew it back the days of my mere nipperhood, Masters & Johnson.
Dina should write romance novels.
I would read those in a heartbeat. (Please let her write Danthan shipfics)
The Voyeuristic Velociraptor
Dinosaur Bones
Becky Does K-T
— Or human/dinosaur erotica for Amazon Kindle.
You mean you haven’t seen this? http://www.amazon.com/Taken-T-Rex-Dinosaur-Erotica-Christie-ebook/dp/B00FI9JFFO
That’s a heck of a way to put it.
It was a mouthful – that pizza slice didn’t help.
Uh… can someone put that in a language I can understand? I don’t speak Dina.
They fuck a lot.
No.
They fuck just the right amount.
Which is a lot.
They do the bony pony with their seductive reproductive parties until both are satisfied with their satisfaction…satisfaction… satisfaction.
I see Mr. Benassi has had quite the effect on Mr. Random.
oh see i was confused because i thought she was observing to herself the awkward social happening that is Danny/Ethan and their conversation.

I think the plural of rex is rex.
In Latin the plural of rex is reges.
But I’m really not convinced that Latin grammar is correct in English sentences.

Perhaps “Tyrannosauri Rex”?
I’d parse that more as King of the Tyrannosaurs.
Or is it “Ts. Rex”? Tyrannosaures Rex? Like Culs-de-Sac or Runs Batted In (even if AP style dictates “RBIs.” Runs Batted Ins? C’mon AP!)
Tyrannosauri reges?
Umm. Saurus is a Greek word in Latin form — the direct transliteration is “sauros”. Dual should be -sauro and plural -sauroi. Tyrannosaurus Mex.
Sombrero, poncho, six-shooters clutched in both of its stubby claw-hands.
Amber fucks Danny so much, that he never has to worry about walking the dinosaur.
Is that what that was about? Well, you learn something new about masturbation every day!
“the pageantry of tricking their bodies into believing an egg has been fertilized at a frequency that satisfies both parties”
kinda long for a book title but it could work
According to alt text earlier in the book, the title of book 5 will be “Hey, Guess What? I’m a Lesbian!” I mean I think that stands until another alt text says another line of dialogue will be used.
Plot-twist:
It’s not Becky’s dialogue.
It’s Danny’s.
I’d have assumed Joe.
I’m still hoping for stop the faces
I think the The Pageantry of Tricking. would actually make a good erotic novella title.
Damn, that’s fantastic. I may have to steal it.
–Except now it sounds like it’s about prostitution to me. Hmm. Perhaps The Pageantry of Trickery…
Just add two words Their Bodies. Still true, but does not imply prostitution.
All this talk about that unfortunate turn of phrase above reminded me to start watching Arrested Development again.
Is that Amber and a Kool Ade pitcher?
Dina, you beautiful little slice of wonder.
Truly, Dina is a romantic of the highest order. 😛
Mortification…you’re SOAKING in it!
Honest question: does anyone say boning in casual conversation unironically?
Perhaps if you’re talking about prepping fish or poultry for cooking.
Also 3D character artists. Some people call it “skinning” or “rigging”, but I’ve heard “boning” with about the same regularity.
Probably. Me and the wife often use ‘bang’. I have to imagine there’s at least one person that uses ‘bone’.
These two.
Yes, but still to usually deflate awkwardness and/or tension.
Since you aren’t asking for a number, I feel comfortable with simply saying “yes.”
I don’t understand the practice of doing things ironically.
As far as I can gather, it involves handlebar mustaches.
Panel 3 Ethan is terribly attractive for some reason. That little smile and eyebrow game….
It’s the hat that sells his sexiness.
I’m glad it’s not just me. Upping your game, Ethan?
I knew Dina could be poetic, but that was beautiful.
The perfect marriage of poetry and science, in one eloquently dressed package.
So Ethan is catching on to Danny’s Q status, I presume?
Recent evidence has revealed that D. saruyamensis was an extremely intelligent species. Make them two sub-species:
Walky — D. walkertonii cibumportio (snack food)
Sal — D. walkertonii crispus (curly-haired)
The scientific community at large has agreed with the taxonomy and nomenclature for these recently discovered species.
The common convention for dinosaur species taxonomy does not assign the suffix “-saurus” to species names, only to genus names. In order to fully validify these names, a genus name is required. Doasaurus walkerton cibumportio has been accepted as a synonym for S. walksaurus. Similarly, Doasaurus omalleis would be a suitable synonym for A. malsaurus.

Huge, huuuuge grins in the morning.
The frequency of a sock on the door, or perhaps a more discreet symbol/message on the whiteboard.
Asking her to leave isn’t gross anyway? I mean, it might be kind of an inconvenience if it happens frequently, but these things happen.
This is a quick test.
My clock says it is 11:09
11:10
15 seconds

what
I’ve been noticing that the strip, which is supposed to load at 11:01 for my timezone. Is not. I’m also noticing that despite loading a minute later, the time stamps for the first comments is still reading at 12:01. So that means that there needs to be a delay. Based on these, I think there’s exactly a 1 minute and 15 second delay for the website’s clock and what I’m running on.
The timestamps read for Ohio time — depending on the time of year, either Eastern Standard or Eastern Daylight time — regardless of your local time.
All your posts were dated one minute earlier than the time you stated.
And 15 seconds.
11:09:30
I’m amazed that she was able to say that with a sausage special in her gob.
And that’s before they put the sausage in their mouth.
There doesn’t even need to be a sausage involved at all.
Dina is always watching.
From behind the door.
I’m surprised Dina was against the phrase “boning”.
#getitbecausefossils
How about just “mating,” don’t care how analytical she is that word is to basic not to be in her vocabulary.
Mating heavily insinuates reproduction, though. Dina had to be clear.
She’s still feeling betrayed by that T-shirt.
The three of them should be careful. Someone could overhear their conversation, put 2 and 2 together, and come up with Amazi-girl.
Therefore, Amazi-Girl is 4.
Correct! 4 weeks and counting
I think the hat is working. Ethan’s already got way more confidence.
Dina look fucking adorable chewing on that pizza.
And the dino goes omnomnomnomnom
i have a sudden need for dina to have a blog summarizing porn or something
That would be hilarious.
I want to see a new slipshine which is just Danny and Amazi-girl boning with Dina’s “Wild Kingdom” commentary.
Laughed so hard I nearly stopped breathing. Best strip yet.
I figured that Danny’s reason for attending this meetup had to come up eventually. I’m curious as to exactly what Danny will end up telling Ethan.
He likes Ethan, but they’re not very close, and right now Danny’s apparently frustrated. So unfortunately, he won’t tell him much.
Danny clearly stated he was happy in his current relationship.
Given how Ethan is questioning Danny, and that smirk he’s got in panel 3, perhaps he’s not as convinced of Danny’s heterosexuality as we thought.
Di-did she just make the science of sex interesting?
When was anything involving sex not interesting?
Spoken by someone who has not watched ‘Kinsey’.
Ethan? Don’t even think about it. Don’t you dare, Ethan.
Ethan, I’m counting on you. You can do this. Go on, kiss the
girlboy.Sha-la-la-la-la-la my oh my!
I love diana so much
It’s good that you love the first wife of the prince of Wales.
Well she IS Wonder Woman, so who wouldn’t love her?
OH MY GOD, DINA OF LAST PANEL
Best. Line. Ever Written. By David Willis. Cannot. Stop. Laughing.
PfffftBWAHAHAHA. Pageantry. HEE HEE HEE.
Tmi Danny.
I don’t think Ethan was asking for specifics on your love life, or maybe he was.
Well at least Danny hasn’t told him about the grappling hook sex yet.
It should come in due time.
(and so do they)
BAHDUM-tish
kinda waiting for someone else to mention bisexuality to Danny and having him go Luke Skywalker father denial in response with Dorothy in the background mentioning that she told him that shit Yesterday
Judging from Danny’s dialogue here http://www.dumbingofage.com/2015/comic/book-5/03-the-butterflies-fly-away/kinsey/
he understands that bisexuality is a thing. He’s just hoping to talk with someone who is bisexual about it, to see if it’s something that really applies to him.

Err, presumed straight guy, anyway.
Dina: “On the other hand, Danny seems to be tricking himself that it can be “not-an-egg” he’s fertilizing.”
She said that last bit in a perfect David Attenborough voice.
I can’t believe no one has yet linked to Hannelore’s somewhat similar description of sex:
http://questionablecontent.net./view.php?comic=1109
We should get them acquainted.
Dammit, I knew I’d heard that before.
I’m sure there are plenty of dinosaurs on her list
It was the first thing I thought of, but I was delayed by stupid doctor stuff. Curse you bum Kidney!
The shit Dina says is uncalled for. Seriously!
Yeah, but it’s not mean spirited. She’s learning social interaction by hit and miss (as seen in a LOT of her interaction with Amber)
Holy crap we found the one person that has the same attitude towards Dina most have towards Danny…and Becky…and Joyce…and…
And of course they have a Mary avatar.
That’s Rachel actually.
Damnit.
You might not be far off. It’s been established that Rachel is too pretty to be a good person.
I’m pretty sure Ethan called for it.
the ambiguously autistic character has trouble interpreting what is and isn’t appropriate to disclose in conversation, fucking shocker
Ethan at his most awesome: panel 3
Dina and Danny: panel 5
This is a good strip
Mmmm frequency
great, now I’m sure they’ll do a “Dina check” every time they want to fool around in the future.
omg, that’s adorable. “Wait, did you check behind the door?”
“I mean, we’re fine, we’re banging like crazy”.
so wait does thia mean that like, dina is sometimes in the room
just kinda
watching?
Danny seems like he’s THIS close to a revelation on what bisexuality is.
So there’s probably like 10,000 more strips to go until he has it.
I love how Dana describes sex! I’m laughing so hard! She’s clearly my favorite character.
I guffawed loud at Dina’s line, that’s my favorite line in this comic forever
“Speaking of wiener, I need to go catch up on Dumbing”
Me, 10 minutes ago.
