You son of a bongo you’ve got my hype-meter maxed out for DiveKick DLC! DAVID GET AMBER/AMAZI-GIRL SUBMITTED TO THE DUDES AT DIVEKICK FOR 2014 DLC MAN!
Two different genders can be in the same prison. Just ask CeCe McDonald (just released from men’s prison), Chelsea Manning, or Michelle Kosilek. Or, in-story, Jocelyne Brown.
I realized after I posted that I should have clarified that she would probably know due to being T not due to being in prison. This is one of those “oh, that happens” that most T people learn.
Legally she’s within her rights to keep going as long as he keeps getting up and resumes the attack. Or, failing that, if she can plausibly argue that he would have kept getting up had she stopped kicking his ribs in. She can’t kill him unless it looks genuinely accidental, though.
Or, plan B: don’t get caught! All she has to do is run, and Danny will regretfully turn Sal into the police to pay for her crimes. Due to morals and stuff.
Eh none of the characters can see past the mask so far, by the time Blaine can call she could have removed the mask and replaced it with a slightly different shade of blue and no one will ever know.
Arrested for what exactly? Her attack there just saved Danny who had essentially become a hostage. Chances are that he’ll try to attack back as well leading her to then have to beat him down to protect herself and Danny. Plus, to be arrested, there would have to actually be you know, POLICE there.
I’m sorry but by seeing your avatar right after mine, I can now imagine Jason and Joe smirking at each other as if they are about to do something epic.
Interesting… I don’t know if she’d recognize him since she didn’t recognize Amber, but I would think that he might recognize her. I guess that he mostly sees her as she’s moving by and so he doesn’t get to see her face due to all of the hair.
Plus…unless Ethan sees her grimacing with the wild hair,
he might not even connect the image of her.
So far, Sal has only shown that face to Walky and Jason.
Everyone else gets disdain.
I think Amazi-Girl is supposed to be non-violent, and thus committing such a violent act, combined with her normal voice coming through, means she’s Amazi-Girl no longer.
Batman is always Batman. Bruce Wayne is the disguise.
When Peter Parker took off the Spider-Man costume before absolutely destroying Kingpin in the middle of Rikers Island is more apt. Peter Parker is willing to commit more violent acts than Spider-man.
Uh, I’m pretty sure Amazi-girl is *not* supposed to be non-violent. At least not with violent/abusive people. We got to know her when she beat up the gang that was bullying Danny.
I was mostly remembering when she DIDN’T beat up those vandals and instead unbolted and took the sign. Indicating nonviolence.
So I guess she’s only violent when specifically confronted with violence? Which Blaine didn’t actually do in this instance (grabbing Danny’s arm isn’t overtly violent), so it’s still a break in character. I guess?
I think it’s because Amazi-girl isn’t fighting Blaine, Amber is. She isn’t fighting to protect anyone or stop some wrong doing, she’s acting purely out of revenge and rage. Amazi-girl fight’s for justice, but this is a personal matter.
But now the War Doctor is considered the Doctor again, just without a number (since that would make it all kinds of confusing now). And Batman DID used to kill in his early comics.
It’s a line he won’t cross except when there’s a new writer who wants to explore their own personal notions of what it would take to get Batman to cross the line he won’t cross.
(The right answer is, “No, it’s a line he won’t cross. ‘Cause if he crosses it, all those times he didn’t kill the Joker and the Joker escaped Arkham and then killed a whole mess more people, as he does, are on Batman’s head, and he doesn’t even have the excuse, ‘That’s a line I won’t cross,’ to shield himself if it’s a line he’ll cross to dispose of a villain who’s inconvenient to capture but not cross to save the lives of howevermany hundreds of innocents the Joker has killed and will kill in future.”)
I’ve been wondering bout this too. Although he and Sal never ran into each other at university yet, so that drama tag is just waiting to be pulled, and by Amber most likely.
Eh, we know his parents aren’t great, but it seems they were at least somewhat better before he came out. Maybe he had a chance to deal with this in a healthy way? (Or maybe he just pushed it all deep down inside for it to boil over at some point, who knows! People are complicated and handle things differently.)
Actually the Ethan we see in the flashbacks was killed by Sal; the current Ethan is a replacement goldfish that Amber pushed into the role and clings to to make up for Her Greatest Failure. (Original) Ethan’s parents put up with the charade for her sake, but only barely.
Depends a lot on the store. Here in the South, the QuikTrip stores not only let the customers use the restrooms, but said restrooms are also *gasp* kept fairly clean and presentable.
That is the common thread among all parties to this disaster isn’t it? Including Danny in the sequel. The only conclusion to draw is . . . Amber’s grandparents were hella fucked up!
“Offer me money”
“Yes!”
“Power too. Promise me that.”
“All that I have and more. Please–”
“Offer me anything I ask for.”
“Anything you want.”
“I WANT MY FATHER GONE, YOU SON OF A bongo!”
Blaine’s waiting out in the car in the flashback. As hilariously evil as that would be to throw him to an unhinged girl with a knife, it ain’t happening.
Anybody else feel an adrenaline rush of awesomeness immediately after seeing the last panel quickly followed by the realization that it probably would not end well?
Especially after reading the alt-text.
I thought the alt-text and the not-tagged-Amazigirl was a reference to her failing to disguise her voice. The speech bubble is going from Amazi-Blue to Amber-White, so Danny and Blaine might recognize her voice and identify her as Amber. So this comic is tagged Amber instead of Amazigirl as that’s the persona she’s showing to the other people incomic.
There have been a couple of times when Amber’s speech bubble was in black. I wonder if this is a third style of speaking, or if this is just intended to convey a sense of intense anger/passion.
Yes, I know Blaine got kicked in the face and it’s super satisfying but can we come back to the plot twist with Sal? This hasn’t been mentioned before, right? Has Amber even met Sal at college?
It was previously established that Sal robbed a convenience store, and that Amber was there and somehow traumatized by it (Ethan being taken hostage was not revealed until today). And Amber has seen Sal a few times and then got kind of freaked out. Her seeing Sal talking to Danny happened recently and freaked her out extra; this happened very recently in-universe.
I was really confused at first because I thought Amber was the one saying “here’s a hostage” and I was like, so what, she helped out a criminal because she thought it would make her cool and now feels guilty for giving into peer pressure? Why was she letting Sal take her friend hostage?
Then I realized that was Sal’s line, and that it’s my brain which doesn’t make sense and not the comic. WHOOPS
Guys. GUYS. When Amber says “Never again” this is the second time that a guy that she likes has been held hostage, but this time she can do something (however misguided it may be) to help!
Blaine, you got your face punched in yesterday, and now kicked in today. If you work real hard, you might get acquainted with a baseball bat on Monday.
Never before have two souls joined so freely,
and so fast.
For me this is the first time,
and the last.
Is this an angel’s wish for men?
Never before and never again.
Yes, legend has it that cloth can cut diamonds and giant robots. However, it is more effective on the robots. The cloth is just overkill if used on a human.
She has used cloth in battle. Namely, she’s used her cape to knock the phone out of Dorothy’s hands. It’s not injuring someone with cloth, but it is, if anything, far harder.
Yeah, I’m getting the impression that he was, for whatever reason, less traumatized by the event than Amber was. Probably because, while his parents(mom) are(is) horrible, they’re passive-aggressive-horrible, not violent-horrible like Blaine is, so he has an easier time metabolizing violence than Amber does.
I don’t know if they saw eachother in any other strip, but that looks a lot like he only saw her from the back, and considering how different her hair looks, I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t recognise her.
He may not have gotten a good look at her, as he was busy being held hostage at the time. Amber had that scene seared into her memory, and that includes both Ethan and Sal.
Everyone keeps saying that. I disagree. While I still expect Amber’s dad to don a supervillian costume at some point, I expect this storyline to come down to Amazigirl facing some of her inner demons, dealing with them, and coming out stronger. I also wouldn’t be surprised if it involved Andy finding out who she actually is and eventually resolving their relationship one way or another.
. . . Why? A: It was years ago and she was caught, sentenced, and punished for what she did, B: It’s increasingly clear that that face in panel one is one of terrified posturing and youthful stupidity.
I don’t think Amber dealing with Sal the way she is with Blaine* would be all that helpful, but I agree with the underlying sentiment that Sal owes Amber and Ethan some kind of restitution even if it’s just that she acknowledges the impact of what she did.
Right now it’s not clear if Sal ever gave Amber or Ethan another thought. I’m holding off on making any judgments about Sal until I see how she handles the eventual confrontation with Amber (or how Willis writes it, I should say).
*Which is not to say that I think this wasn’t the best way to deal with Blaine – he damn well deserved an ass-kicking and it’s probably a very cathartic moment for Amber.
Huh? Although I did just say that Amber assaulting Sal wouldn’t be helpful, I don’t quite understand your comment. There’s nothing random about Amber’s ill will towards Sal (who held her best friend at knifepoint) and Sal is not exactly innocent. Sal’s own issues don’t erase the fact that she did something that hurt innocent people.
That was a reply to the person you replied to, though it’s easy to lose track of the threading on here sometimes. But Sal is innocent of any current wrongdoing. She was caught and punished for her crime, she has not committed any new ones, and an assault on her at this point would certainly to her seem like a random attack from somebody she probably only knows as a floor-mate. She has no reason to attack Sal right now, so I would consider it a “random attack”.
Except that Sal’s original act of wrongdoing had consequences that are still playing out in the here and now. Sal bears *some* responsibility for that.
What bothers me is that we haven’t seen a a trace of evidence to suggest that Sal gives any thought to how traumatising her actions might have been to others. Yes, that flashback indicates she was pretty traumatised herself, but that doesn’t mean she’s excused of all responsibility for the consequences of her actions.
There’s a lot we don’t know yet – exactly how Sal feels about her crime in hindsight, whether she had any contact with Ethan and Amber afterwards, whether she ever made any attempt to apologise, so I’m reserving judgment. But I’m hoping that when these issues eventually come to a head Sal doesn’t cop out.
Well I doubt she’d have a -chance- to apologize, what with the shipping off to juvie. But there are a host of facts you’re glossing over there. We as a society have agreed upon certain punishments for certain acts. Sal was caught, assigned a punishment according to her crime, and that punishment was carried out. That, -by- -itself-, should be enough to earn her a clean slate so long as she does not commit other criminal acts.
On top of that, She was a -child-. She’s not any older than Amber, remember? Under the law, minors are not held to the same legal standard as adults, and there’s a -reason- for that. They’re still cooking, and more likely to make terrible mistakes. As such, it is unfair to hold them responsible for their actions to the same degree that we do an informed adult.
I think Sal deserves some crap for trying to improve her grades by boinking her professor, but this? She was punished for this, in accordance with the law.
Would it be nice for her to apologize to Amber if she knew who she was? Yeah, sure. Probably. I know some people who’d prefer she just stayed the hell away and acted like they didn’t know each other. But the post I was replying to wasn’t about apologies, or giving space, it as about Amber hunting somebody down for the purpose of physical, violent -revenge-. That’s not justice, and I don’ think that’s what Amber thinks Amazi-girl is about.
Blaine abused her. Ethan befriended her, tried to protect her from the scarey world and integrate her into society,”hey get some Twinkies”. Sal scared the shit out of her: makes sense, Amber is way sensitive to violence. And Sal takes her friend hostage.
Blaine grabs Danny, whom Amber likes for reasons not understood by most people. But she does. And Blain has taken him hostage.
Never Again.
Just the icing on the cake for Amber Amazi-Girl’s rage.
Good for you, hit ‘im again. And throw Danny across the parking lot if he gets in your way. But…don’t stay there too long, I don’t want you to go to jail for beating the shit out of Blaine-who has to be the hands down winner of the “You Deserved This” award.
Dude, looks like Blaine pushed the wrong damn buttons. I think there’s going to be an unmasking soon, though, when all this gets explained to Danny. If he doesn’t Dan things up.
Also, the hold-up scene–Sal taking Ethan hostage and Amber being helpless (but feeling responsible, somehow) is explaining much about Amber’s psyche. I bet Amber felt that way when Blaine was beating up her mother, too.
For a second there, I read panel three as Amber panicking in the moment and tossing Ethan to Sal as an attempt to get on Sal’s good side and save her own skin.
That would be a great plot twist and origin story for some other comic, but in this particular case I’m glad my brain just farted a lil’ bit.
Is it safe to assume that the Walkertons give Walky preferential treatment not because he’s “whiter”, but because he never held up convenience stores in his spare time? Or am I potentially swapping cause/effect.
Eh, the fact that Billie, who knows them better than her own family, immediately thought Sal’s theory had legs, and that Walky, once he calmed down and thought about it, was less than certain, is evidence on Sal’s side, to me.
Unless the Walkerton parents are time travelers it makes no sense for them to have been showing preferential treatment towards their kids because of an event that hadn’t happened yet.
Parents love Walky more -> Sal robs convenience store for attention.
Vs.
Sal robs convenience store for attention -> Parents love Walky more.
Of course, the latter still implies a hint of the first, for that matter it’s quite possible she was “Acting up” before she robbed the convenience store, which only exacerbated the original issue (racism).
But speculation is kinda pointless, the main thrust is:
Cause and effect are very rarely clear cut, especially with people 😛
And then Danny runs away, bawling his eyes out, because his Amazigirl isn’t the Adam West Wacky Hijinks Batman, but the Frank Miller Hooker Violence Batman.
And he just can’t compare to Carrie.
I cant help but think young Willis would have thought of Honor thy Father and Mother and would have been fearful of making this strip. He probably would of had drawn them both having a tearful reconciliation at church like a Chick Publication comic or something. Thoughts?
I wonder if Amber has a subconscious fear that the holdup influenced Ethan’s sexuality in some way and doesn’t want the same happening to her new boyfriend. I don’t think Amber is dumb, but she can think and behave irrationally about Ethan, her father, and her past (very understandably mind you).
Next page, Danny saves the day…
Or Steve eats a bowl of cereal…
Plus, I’m sure Mike has commented that Danny is already two testicles short of a full man to her at some point.
“Or would you prefer me to tell him exactly what kind of little spaz you are?”
I’m beginning to think that something more happened at the gas station than just Ethan being taken hostage. Maybe Amber ‘lost’ it?
I love how polite the store clerk is about what’s happening. “Miss, if you just leave now, I won’t even bother calling the police and letting everyone know how dumbass your plan was.”
I think everyone has said everything already, so I just want to pop in to say that I’m enjoying the hell out the of the current storylines, Willis. Bravo! 🙂
I figured there would be at least one more day before we saw any fighting. I was saving this for right before the fight but I guess it’s too late. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Um7bi-1IoFA
Sal is clearly uncertain and stammering, and we have anecdotal evidence that suggests she won’t actually stab and kill her hostage. Basically she’s being as inoffesive and woobieish as a hostage-taker can be. Thus we forgive her.
Plus, like one panel over we get to see Blaine get kicked in the face! Who could look away from that!?
I’m too lazy to sift through 400+ comments to see if this has been said already, so…
I caught the change from AmaziGirl to Amber speech when she kicked Blaine.
I think in a major way she’s coming to terms with all the hurt and rage and fear and will soon no longer need an AmaziGirl persona to help her deal with it all.
She’s also going to unmask, because she’s going to want Blaine to know it is her, and might be ready to reveal herself to Danny.
Danny may initially be shocked at her brutality, but I suspect this will pass, and we’ll see them patrolling rooftops together. As AmaziGirl and… um… WienerBoy.
It just needs one more thing to be perfect: “T-This” really should be “Th-this.” I mean, I assume Sal isn’t talking to me, but that’s how “T-This” sounds.
(I could also stick a comma after “W-Well,” but that’s a little more of a judgment call.)
wild freaking guess:
Amber snuck out of the convenience store and told her father what was happening, and he drove away without trying to save Ethan. Amber worries that on some level, Ethan is mad at her for that, and that’s why it didn’t work out between the two of them.
Now, not to put too fine a point on it here, but I have a feeling that it didn’t work out between Amber and Ethan because Ethan is gay.
I mean, Ethan and Joyce are a thing but I’d not really call what’s happening with them “working out” either, and Ethan has also had a lot more of people totally being asshats about him being gay since he came out and is possibly even less accepting of it now than when he first realized it.
Counterargument/suggestion: perhaps Jon P’s scenario is partially correct, and despite the obvious explanation for why things didn’t work between Ethan and Amber, Amber still has that nagging doubt (brought back to the surface by Ethan and Joyce being a thing) that perhaps that scenario *is* what caused it, reality and evidence to the contrary.
Yeah, that was my idea. I mean, Ethan knows why it didn’t work, but Amber might be thinking “if only I had done something to help, we would’ve had something.”
Crazy-ass theory, of course, and AFAIK we don’t quite know the timing on when the hold-up occurred relative to prom.
yes about time Blaine got a ass kicking and from his own daughter amazing girl. for doubtful blaine will want to tell the cops that he was setting up his own daughter and using danny as bait. though hope amazing girl is smart enough not to go over board and kill blaine.
THIS IS HUGE PEOPLE WHO DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS GUY COMES ON HERE EVERY SINGLE DAY AND JUST SAYS “great page” EVERY FUCKIN DAY. And not just here! On other webcomics too! Every single day, “great page”, nothing less, nothing more. Getting “boot to the face”- with an exclamation point, no less- means that this is probably the single greatest comic strip on the internet. Wow.
FATALITY.
Aw shiiiiiiiiit
Just went down right here
No lifebar, just a one-hitter quitter and then straight to a finishing move.
So Mysterio from the Spider-Man 2 video game, then?
Or Paul Phoenix from Tekken 5…by way of Marshall Law’s ending.
Amber confirmed for DiveKick.
You son of a bongo you’ve got my hype-meter maxed out for DiveKick DLC! DAVID GET AMBER/AMAZI-GIRL SUBMITTED TO THE DUDES AT DIVEKICK FOR 2014 DLC MAN!
A one-woman WOMBO COMBO (her rage counts as player 2)!!! Amazi-Kick!!!
THIS WILL NEVER GET OLD!
FLAWLESS VICTORY
TOASTY!!!
Daaaaaang
Thickality
Time for Amber to get arrested! Yay!
And then Amber’ll have a new “NEVER AGAIN!” It all works out!
I wonder what her cell roommate will be.
Blaine.
It seems strange for two people of different genders to be in the same prison.
Give her five minutes, his gender won’t be an issue
Two different genders can be in the same prison. Just ask CeCe McDonald (just released from men’s prison), Chelsea Manning, or Michelle Kosilek. Or, in-story, Jocelyne Brown.
They shouldn’t be, though – that’s just people being horrible and refusing to accept someone’s gender identity 🙁
Agreed. My way of dealing with it is to make sure I don’t go to jail.
I must’ve missed the “Joyce’s sister goes to prison” storyline.
I realized after I posted that I should have clarified that she would probably know due to being T not due to being in prison. This is one of those “oh, that happens” that most T people learn.
Corpses don’t have a gender.
Sure they do, they just don’t use it.
Blaine, the lady prisoner, who teaches Amber that not all Blaines are horrible people by doing fun activities like…
Um…
Waiting for parole?
I misread your comment and thought you said “Bane”.
I am now going to read all of Blaine’s lines in Bane’s voice. THANK YOU.
Nope. Defending Danny.
Wonder if she and Danny will just leave him now, or follow through.
He’s not gonna call. That would mean admitting to having been beaten up by a girl.
EXACTLY. How can he be in control when his ego has been utterly wrecked? Can’t admit that shit; ‘s not ‘manly’.
Also, Blaine’s jaw and all his fingers will be broken. He’s not gonna be describing her anytime soon.
Nah, she reveals to Danny that she is really Amazi-Girl and then they go on a Thelma & Louise-ish ride through the US.
yes yesssss
So we can look forward to a “Babes in Lockup” segue? Woohoo!
Arrested for what exactly? Her attack there just saved Danny who had essentially become a hostage. Chances are that he’ll try to attack back as well leading her to then have to beat him down to protect herself and Danny. Plus, to be arrested, there would have to actually be you know, POLICE there.
That’d require her father to involve the cops. Which is actually highly unlikely.
¨Hey, this girl tried to beat me up when I was kidnapping some unlucky bastard!¨
I’m sorry but by seeing your avatar right after mine, I can now imagine Jason and Joe smirking at each other as if they are about to do something epic.
She was only Cool-Girl at the time?
I just realized I thought Amazi-Girl LITERALLY kicked Blaine back into five years ago.
So she kicked him so hard, his past self felt it?
If only she kicked him so hard that he saw the curvature of the earth
This is rapidly turning into a rehash of Chuck Norris memes….
You are implying that that is a bad thing.
Kicked him so hard that a McDonald’s turned into a Wendy’s.
That would fuck up a ton of timelines. Like what if present Blaine met past Blaine.
Either one will kill the other in order to get stronger…
or Timecop.
Ideally they would fight to the death, like bettas. Or Jet Lis.
*snerk*
And thus starts the REAL plot starts. Sure Willis said no aliens, but he never said anything about time travel demons.
It’s like when Norbert bopped Daggett into last week.
Ucking fexcellent.
Fexcellent avatar as well.
Holy s***…most epic kick I’ve seen all month
Clearly you need to go back to Pokemon Stadium and watch Machamp do Low Kick.
The last thing you’d expect a 4-armed enemy to do, sweep the leg.
Fear the Red Background!
YESSSS
The Spanish Inquisition is pleased!
And unexpected!
No one expects the kick to the face!
I think it’s Henry the Eighth.
That’s because you weren’t expecting the Spanish Inquisition. Then again, NeeOBODY expects the SPANISH INQUISITION.
Bring out….ZE COMFY CHAIR!
*cue dramatic music*
Ethan’s poor, scared little face. D:
FAAAAACE
I wonder if HE remembers Sal… Were they ever in the same scene, excluding the flashbacks?
http://www.dumbingofage.com/2013/comic/book-4/01-the-only-dope-for-me-is-you/fudge/
did a quick search and these are the only two comics with both of them tagged in it
http://www.dumbingofage.com/2013/comic/book-4/01-the-only-dope-for-me-is-you/fudge/
http://www.dumbingofage.com/2012/comic/book-3/01-if-the-shoes-split/diddlin/
Never shown them both interacting.
That was my question, too! Thanks for sharing the research.
Amber! If you remember I didn’t even want to let you GET the snacks. If anything it’s all YOUR fault.
“Well then maybe you should have actually bought Pop-Tarts when you went grocery shopping like you were supposed to then, ‘dad’.”
“We both know that I prefer Hot Pockets!”
“Hot Pockets are for our LUNCHES. And since when does the zoo have microwaves?!”
“I Don’t eat pop-tarts plain, DAD! You know that!”
“Wait who’s talking now? I’m confused and angry at whoever the other person is!”
Ethan: “How about we all just calm down and get some delicious Ego Waffles?”
Do we have to stroke the waffles before we eat them?
id love to have some waffles. Especially some super ego waffles.
So….do Id Waffles just kick you and steal your stuff because they just felt like it?
OMG!! So this Amazingness is all Amber?
I think Amazi-Girl is supposed to be non-violent, and thus committing such a violent act, combined with her normal voice coming through, means she’s Amazi-Girl no longer.
Kinda like the War Doctor isn’t the Doctor.
If Batman kills, is he still Batman?
Batman is always Batman. Bruce Wayne is the disguise.
When Peter Parker took off the Spider-Man costume before absolutely destroying Kingpin in the middle of Rikers Island is more apt. Peter Parker is willing to commit more violent acts than Spider-man.
Probably true. But a few years back it was a plot point all the skull/bone damage Oct had due to fights with Spider-man.
There’s very few truly non-violent superheroes.
Uh, I’m pretty sure Amazi-girl is *not* supposed to be non-violent. At least not with violent/abusive people. We got to know her when she beat up the gang that was bullying Danny.
Yeah, been a long time, forgot about that.
Actually, when she took a nonviolent approach with those vandals, it was just because they provoked her specifically about her unnecessary violence: http://www.dumbingofage.com/2013/comic/book-3/02-guess-whos-coming-to-galassos/shortstuff/
http://www.dumbingofage.com/2013/comic/book-3/02-guess-whos-coming-to-galassos/nonviolent/
Amazi-Girl punches a hell of a lot of people for a supposed non-violent person.
Yeah, fair. Man, I need to re-read the archives.
It’s the voice. She outed herself.
She only picked up the Christopher Nolan Batman Voice recently. She used her Amber voice for a LONG time without Danny or anyone else recognizing her.
But now the War Doctor is considered the Doctor again, just without a number (since that would make it all kinds of confusing now). And Batman DID used to kill in his early comics.
Batman has killed lots of people over the years. The whole “that’s a line I won’t cross” only matters when it’s convenient to the plot, really.
And yet Ethan apparently isn’t traumatized by any of this? it’s not his parents seem to be all that great either.
His watermelon hair serves as a protective helmet.
Violent petty crime is at least over quickly (in my limited experience). Bad parent(s) are endured for years.
And Ethan does seem to have absorbed the lesson that it’s best to not make waves.
This was the exact moment that Ethan realized that girls aren’t all they’re cracked up to be.
We just haven’t had a chance to see him reveal that he went to the same martial arts classes Amber went to.
One day, he’ll be all like KRAV MAGA, bongoES.
Actually the Ethan we see in the flashbacks was killed by Sal; the current Ethan is a replacement goldfish that Amber pushed into the role and clings to to make up for Her Greatest Failure. (Original) Ethan’s parents put up with the charade for her sake, but only barely.
Well, the last panel is awesome. And arousing.
Hands where I can see them.
I think that leaves enough places you still don’t want his hands to be.
He just wants to watch.
If you insist.

Boot to the head.
Ya, ya!
Boot to the head.
Ya, ya!
And one for the wimp!
Kick to the FAAAACCCEE!!!!
I think I used that move fighting the Zin.
I think I’ve used it as Rain in Mortal Kombat.
We’ll know if in tomorrow’s strip he flies in from the other side of the frame.
I think I’ve used it as Ryu in Marvel vs Capcom 1.

Aaaand yet another reason I love this forum. You guys are awesome.
Every time that Blaine gets beaten, a puppy is adopted.
Please, think of the puppies.
Not many puppies will be adopted as a result unfortunately.
Since he’s dead in the other universe, does that mean all the puppies have been adopted or that puppy adopting has come to a halt?
Every time a worm eats part of him a puppy is adopted.
Good save! Think of the puppies!

Kool-Aid Guy: Ooooh, Yeeaah!
Orson Welles: They’re even better RAW!
Cyborg: Booyah!
Blaine’s dentist: Yesss, now I can get that yacht.
And we have a Winnah!
That’ll never work, Sal. Gas station employees HATE their customers. Why do you think they keep the bathrooms so awful if not to make them suffer?
Oh I have stories to tell about those… so many horrifying stories.
Where are you, that customers are allowed use of the facilities?
Who said anything about permission?
They often aren’t accessible without lockpicking skill or bulletproof barrier penetration skills. And a camera is probably watching anyway.
I actually don’t see many of those (locked bathrooms) these days.
Depends a lot on the store. Here in the South, the QuikTrip stores not only let the customers use the restrooms, but said restrooms are also *gasp* kept fairly clean and presentable.
It takes all their will power to not cut them down themselves.
…HOLY SHIT, SAL. O_o
AMAZI-GIRL KICK!
Falcon punch!
Young lady, how can I give you what you want, if you haven’t told me what you want yet?
“oh sorry! Better parents.”
Amber: Actually I’ll take some of those too
Ethan: Me too If you have any left over…
There’s only so many Keeners and Snows to go around.
That is the common thread among all parties to this disaster isn’t it? Including Danny in the sequel. The only conclusion to draw is . . . Amber’s grandparents were hella fucked up!
The crazy things you learn about people’s grandparents…
She’ll tell you what she wants, what she really really wants.

So tell me what she wants, what she really really wants.
“If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends.”
Okay. SWEET.
Oh is that the line? I used to think they were singing: “You gotta get rid of my friends”, which didn’t make sense
She wanna really really really wanna zig-a-zag-huh.
“Offer me money”
“Yes!”
“Power too. Promise me that.”
“All that I have and more. Please–”
“Offer me anything I ask for.”
“Anything you want.”
“I WANT MY FATHER GONE, YOU SON OF A bongo!”
For the win.
Ironically that move is inspired by the girl that Danny thinks Amazigirl is.
F*CK YEAH!
Is it just me or does it seem like Blaine is giving Sal Ethan as a hostage?
Blaine’s waiting out in the car in the flashback. As hilariously evil as that would be to throw him to an unhinged girl with a knife, it ain’t happening.
…………….This isn’t going to end well.
But, then again, if you thought this was,
you haven’t been paying attention.
Well I was hoping for this, just not expecting it.
Can’t wait to see how Danny reacts to this.
You don’t have to wait, buddy! Panel 5!
BAAAAAAAAM!
Danny’s reaction!
I mean is he gonna run and hide, is he gonna try and get in between them, or is he gonna find a different way to Dan it up.
He’s going to get understandably freaked out by seeing Amazigirl beat the shit out of his friend’s dad.
Cue idiots in the comments saying “way to be dan it up lol”
now kick Danny for being such a prick
…or is this moment about something else
Ouchies!
Willis’ next comic: “Couchpacked” in which EVERYONE GOES TO THERAPY!
With Mike being the therapist, of course.

Anybody else feel an adrenaline rush of awesomeness immediately after seeing the last panel quickly followed by the realization that it probably would not end well?
Especially after reading the alt-text.
Oh hell yeah!
The alt-text?? Oh, yeah… :::scrolls up & reads alt-text::: Ooooooooooooo…
Makes me wonder if her secret identity is about to be found out.
I took the alt-text to mean that she doesn’t need the Amazi-Girl identity as a crutch anymore and can now be a whole person
That was my assessment as well.
There have been a couple of times when Amber’s speech bubble was in black. I wonder if this is a third style of speaking, or if this is just intended to convey a sense of intense anger/passion.
Too bad she gave away all her Amazi-Condoms. Poor Danny, no make up sex.
This reminds me, I’m kind of sad that we never got to see Billie’s reaction to all those condoms Roz dumped in her room. I bet it was hilarious.
No matter how badly I expect this to go… that last panel is wonderfully satisfying.
SAL. STOP.
Other criminals are embarressed FOR you. Just….. stop.
THIS! IS! SPARTAAAAAAA!
GYAAAAAAAAHHHH!*
( I’m pretty sure that’s what the guy sounded like)
Wait. WAIT! Wilhelm!
Dear lord. Shit Just Got Real.
AMBER 3:16 SAYS “I JUST WHOOPED YOUR ASS!”
*glass shatters*
BAH GAWD, KANG! IT’S A SLOBBER KNOCKER!
STONE COLD!!! STONE COLD!!! STONE COLD!!!
Kinda figured that was what happened. There were some very strong context clues.
Danny looks so lost
How is that new?
Yes, I know Blaine got kicked in the face and it’s super satisfying but can we come back to the plot twist with Sal? This hasn’t been mentioned before, right? Has Amber even met Sal at college?
Whooooops it was, I missed a strip.
I wondering if Ethan is just as traumatized and if he’s seen Sal yet?
Blaine: “Come on! Show me ya moves!”
Amazi-girl: “FALCON KICK!!! YES!!!!”
Ethan and and sal should probably never meet
I think the reason Amazi-Girl isn’t tagged is that this time Amber’s only wearing the costume, not assuming the identity.
Still, Blaine just got the Chris Sims special so who cares?
Yeah, you can tell by the speech bubble that she’s abandoned the Amazi-Girl voice.
Danny: Amazi-girl, why are you making your voice sound like Amber?
But she STARTED with the Amazi-Girl speech bubble, and it transitioned mid-bubble, so shouldn’t that’ve earned AG a tag?
Yeah, Amazi-Girl clearly says “N”. Maybe it doesn’t count since she isn’t visible (the panel depicts Amber saying “A” or possibly “E”). 😛
The voice is not the real visual indicator of Amazi-girlness. Amazi-girlness existed long before the voice.
I love that last speech bubble.
Arrrrrg I’m having so many emotions right now I have no place to even put them
Blaine = Owned
B-But the missiles aren’t equipped yet!
Well, Amazi-Girl will just have to give Blaine a missile dropkick then.
We could have Sarah Pencil you in.
You forgot that Blaine just took a belly-to-belly suplex and landed face first on the floor.
Sure.
Wait, Monday in comic time? That could take months!
Months? You are a hopeless optomist, aren’t you?
Willis, you’re making it harder and harder for us to pretend that Amazi-girl isn’t Amber.
Yes, now she can only be Blaine, Danny, Ethan, Amber or Sal.
>:=)
Half of me is saying “HELL YEAH!!!!!”
And the other half is saying “Aw shiiiiiit…..>_<"
Also. that looks REALLY painful . . . . X_X
What? That kick to the face?
Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw.
He’ll walk it off.
With his lips.
Now that’s buttkickin’ action!
Not unless Blaine’s butt has teeth it isn’t. But that’s OK because face-kicking action against an abuser is morally acceptable.
Pretty sure it will if you give it time… pretty sure he just swallowed a couple.
Don’t you mean facekickin’ action?
well, it’s still a kick-ass ass-kickin’ if the face belongs to a total ass.
Howould a kick ass-ass kicking look?
probably delivered by a black-hatted stick figure
Stay down, b — er, Blaine!
Holy shit quotient rising.
Also, fifteen minutes to hit 100 comments. THINGS JUST KEEP GETTING REAL.
And that’s twice in two days Blaine has gone into the left field bleachers after a hit from Amber.
I guess I should have said “in comic time”, shouldn’t I.
*roaring applause*
Never before have two souls joined so freely,
and so fast.
For me this is the first time,
and the last.
Is this an angel’s wish for men?
Never before and never again.
And Amazi-Girl starts the match with a beautiful Super Kick.
Whoa! Now I want to see if Ethan remembers any of this.
yeah I really thought ethan would have remembered her face, too.
Heey, notice the word balloon colors. Did she kick him so hard she reintegrated her personalities?
Good Harvey and Big Bad Harv are both on board with this.
I just was thinking this too. Especially considering the tooltip.
I am literally clapping before and after typing this.
Noob. Pros clap while typing. 😛
Clap with your hands, type with your nose.
YES. YES. AMBER. YES.
SAVE THE BOY. DESTROY THE VILLAIN. BE THE HERO.
THE POWER WAS ALWAYS INSIDE YOU.
^This.
Someone already updated the Crowning Moment of Awesome section on TV Tropes, y/y?
Now finish him off with SHINING FINGER SWORD! I knew she was a student of the Undefeated of the East.
Master Asia would be proud!
No…he’ll be proud if Amazi-Girl cut Blaine down with a piece of cloth.
Ah yes, the mighty cloth…truly the most dangerous weapon in the right hands!
Yes, legend has it that cloth can cut diamonds and giant robots. However, it is more effective on the robots. The cloth is just overkill if used on a human.
“I will take you down with my thumb. My LEFT thumb. My right is FAR too powerful for the likes of you…”
She has used cloth in battle. Namely, she’s used her cape to knock the phone out of Dorothy’s hands. It’s not injuring someone with cloth, but it is, if anything, far harder.
*to do*. Sorry, I pressed the enter button too early.
Nah, Gentle Uterus Attack.
Now that is a take-out, kicky-style.
http://www.dumbingofage.com/2013/comic/book-4/01-the-only-dope-for-me-is-you/fudge/
Does Ethan not recognize Sal? Does he not get a good look at her? Is he over it?
Questions….will they be answered?
Does Ethan not recognize Sal? Does he not get a good look at her?
Sal uses Hot Comb.
It’s super effective!
I’m guessing that he got over it. Maybe it’s because he recognized she’s just some punk-ass trying to get attention.
If you check one of the other comments, another one was pointed out. He should have seen her then, barring any attempt to justify otherwise.
He’s too busy checking out those panties to…
Wait…
He may not have gotten a good look at her, as he was busy being held hostage at the time. Amber had that scene seared into her memory, and that includes both Ethan and Sal.
I notice no one’s pointed out Sal turned out to be an incredibly incompetent robber, which kinda worked out in her favor.
As awesome as this looks, I have a feeling it won’t end well for Amber.
Danny. I don’t know why I said Andy. There isn’t even an Andy in this comic, AFAIR.
don’t worry, i’ll just rename the “danny” tag to “andy,” i got you covered, buddy
Good Guy Willis FTW!
Like anyone would ever use the Danny tag lol
#HatingonDanny
Driven to don a mask and costume, Blaine will hence forth be known as – Terribledad!!!
After that kick, more likely to be The Gummer.
She’s got a boot on, I think her foot can take it.
Crowning Moment of Awesome achieved. Now, for the Danny moment…
“Wow Amazi-Girl, your voice sounds a LOT like my friend Amber’s voice.”
Please let this end well. Please let this end well. Please let this end well.
OMG ETHAN IS HER UNCLE BEN.
Okay, Danny’s gotta get it now. Right?
So based on the hover text does this mean that even Danny knows that’s Amber now?
What’s Amber? Amazi-Girl isn’t tagged because she’s Ethan and he was already tagged.
“Ethan” is a really funny way to spell “Sal”.
What is the hovertext? *cellphone*
Kick his ass, sea bass!
HELLS YES. This is absolutely brilliant.
After seeing Sals face in the first panel I’d hope shes Ambers next target
. . . Why? A: It was years ago and she was caught, sentenced, and punished for what she did, B: It’s increasingly clear that that face in panel one is one of terrified posturing and youthful stupidity.
I don’t think Amber got the closure she deserves but a good ass whoppin’ would go along way to helping her out
I don’t think Amber dealing with Sal the way she is with Blaine* would be all that helpful, but I agree with the underlying sentiment that Sal owes Amber and Ethan some kind of restitution even if it’s just that she acknowledges the impact of what she did.
Thats probably a better way of handling it, t the least Sal owes them an apology
Yes, I’m sure for Amber randomly assaulting an innocent person would help her deal with her fears of being like her dad.
Blaine’s status:
[ ] Not Told
[ ] Told
[ ] Fucking Told
[X] STONE TOLD STEVEN AUSTIN
AND THAT’S THE BOTTOM LINE, CAUSE STONE COLD SAID SO!
BAH GAWD AMAZI-GIRL JUST DROP-KICKED THAT SUMbongo BLAINE ALL THE WAY TO HELLLLLLLLL
Just like the Super Bowl trophy was named for Vince Lombardi, the “You Deserved This” award is named for Blaine O’Malley.
Hey does anyone else remember that Ruth and Billie are both still (presumably) alive?
Dale, you giblet-head, we’re in a fight! It’s already detoured once for Walky to get laid, and if it misses one more day, I’m going to kick your ass!
(See King of the Hill Pilot episode)
This was all done months ago; it’s not going to detour because of the comments section.
It’s going to detour because Willis is sustained by the shrieks of people cursing his name, and needs doses at regular intervals.
I was hoping for a haymaker, but I’ll happily settle for sensible boot to abusive bastard’s face. Besides, she can follow up with a haymaker later.
Now that you mention it, that looks like a roundhouse kick. Just what i wished. Still looks painful, tough.
Danny betrayal in 5…4..3…2…
HOLY SWEET CATHARSIS, BATMAN!
So does Danny figure it out or will it have to be spelled out for him
Dude, looks like Blaine pushed the wrong damn buttons. I think there’s going to be an unmasking soon, though, when all this gets explained to Danny. If he doesn’t Dan things up.
¨Amber, I didn’t know you were such a big fan of Amazi-Girl¨.
Also, the hold-up scene–Sal taking Ethan hostage and Amber being helpless (but feeling responsible, somehow) is explaining much about Amber’s psyche. I bet Amber felt that way when Blaine was beating up her mother, too.
YES!!
I thought I had seen something like [panel 5] before.
Sweet, sweet Schadenfreude again!
Schadenfreudelicious!
Yes.
Yes, you are swapping cause and effect.
That was the argument Walky made to Sal, but she said it was the other way around. IIRC it’s really his word against hers at this point.
Eh, the fact that Billie, who knows them better than her own family, immediately thought Sal’s theory had legs, and that Walky, once he calmed down and thought about it, was less than certain, is evidence on Sal’s side, to me.
I would agree with you, but Willis explicitly said it’s racism. Kind of takes the fun out of analyzing things, but there you go.
Unless the Walkerton parents are time travelers it makes no sense for them to have been showing preferential treatment towards their kids because of an event that hadn’t happened yet.
nah, what he means is:
Parents love Walky more -> Sal robs convenience store for attention.
Vs.
Sal robs convenience store for attention -> Parents love Walky more.
Of course, the latter still implies a hint of the first, for that matter it’s quite possible she was “Acting up” before she robbed the convenience store, which only exacerbated the original issue (racism).
But speculation is kinda pointless, the main thrust is:
Cause and effect are very rarely clear cut, especially with people 😛
Obviously Amazi-girl is holding back. Had she not been, Blaine’s head wouldn’t still be attached.
And then Danny runs away, bawling his eyes out, because his Amazigirl isn’t the Adam West Wacky Hijinks Batman, but the Frank Miller Hooker Violence Batman.
And he just can’t compare to Carrie.
David, I’m reading this at work.
They frown on jizzing uncontrollably at work.
Try to remember that next time, okay?
YEEEEESSSSS!
I didn’t realize how much I wanted that until I saw it.
This is when she becomes an antihero isn’t it? I got to say, its awesome!!!
and boom goes the dynamite
Oh oh! Amazi-Girl’s voice slipped into Ambers voice in the last panel.
But will Danny pick up on this?
Not likely.
I cant help but think young Willis would have thought of Honor thy Father and Mother and would have been fearful of making this strip. He probably would of had drawn them both having a tearful reconciliation at church like a Chick Publication comic or something. Thoughts?
I guess young Willis wouldn’t make Terriblaine in th first place.
Wouldn’t being held hostage by a man make Danny straight?
Dear Mr. Willis,
Just a quick note to say thank you so much. This is exactly what I wanted.
Best Regards,
I don’t think she kicked him
The blood coming out of his mouth would indicate otherwise
the background was still red like her flashbacks thought it was in her head was wrong though
If Blaine had the ability to feel pride, part of him might actually be proud that his daughter turned out to be such a bad-ass.
He didn’t feel any pride the last time his daughter beat the crap outta him.
Which actually makes Blaine less human than Darth Vader.
(cf. the RotJ novelization, as Luke is kicking his ass.)
Amber used High Jump Kick! It’s super effective!
Which makes sense, because Fighting-type moves are super effective against Dark types…
Dark type? No. Normal or Bug type. Something you encounter early on and discard once you’ve evolved it enough just to fill the spot in your pokedex.
http://www.goblinscomic.org/06302009/
I had to think about what Blaine said in this strip: http://www.dumbingofage.com/2014/comic/book-4/01-the-only-dope-for-me-is-you/neutral/
“Or would you prefer me to tell him exactly what kind of little spaz you are?”
I’m beginning to think that something more happened at the gas station than just Ethan being taken hostage. Maybe Amber ‘lost’ it?
Maybe he’s just referring to when she decked him earlier; Blaine probably feels he didn’t deserve it, and that Amber is obviously crazy.
HUZZAH!
OH…..
OH MY GOD…..
I AM SO WET RIGHT NOW.
And the fandom Rejoiced !
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
BOOYA!! Boot to da face!
Well that adds a new (?) element to what happened way back when.
And Blaine definitely Had It Coming.
Looking forward to what happens next, hoping it’s not horrible.
That was a kick worthy of a Kamen Rider.
That’s gotta hurt.
Also super fuck Sal
Mr. Willis, that is the most SATISFYING costumed hero-hitting-against-a-bad-guy all month. Probably all YEAR.
Sorry to bring up an old meme, but…
BOOT TO DA HEAD!!!
Op…..wait….I was wrong. It wasn’t Blaine that grabbed Ethan. I may have overthought it 😉
Aahh yes. A satisfying kick to the face.
Well that certainly had alot of impact.
YES i have to leave for class now but I AM SO HAPPY THIS IS AWESOME
No, seriously, Sal held a fucking knife to Ethan’s throat and no one is commenting on that?
I wonder whats gonna happen when Ethan sees Sal for the first time…
He already has and didn’t react at all; either he’s moved on or forgotten. Or just didn’t outwardly freak out, who knows.
Probably because it’s a flashback and Sal was arrested and punished for it.
Guess why she doesn’t like her hair going frizzy, like it was?
Yeah.
Honestly I’m just looking forward to their eventual meeting.
Hmm, that might be evil, now that I think about it…
Sal is clearly uncertain and stammering, and we have anecdotal evidence that suggests she won’t actually stab and kill her hostage. Basically she’s being as inoffesive and woobieish as a hostage-taker can be. Thus we forgive her.
Plus, like one panel over we get to see Blaine get kicked in the face! Who could look away from that!?
Hah! Shit got real you abusive bastard! One more in his nuts and it’s Amazi-Girl awayyyy! Meanwhile, little Danny pisses his pants and starts to cry.
Oh no, wait until she sees Sal with Danny’s gameboy.
…
Didn’t she see them already, while running from the cafeteria/Ethan/Joyce?
Ullll-traaaaaaaaa-KICK!
*Walky runs over and stands over Blaine’s body*
“YOU GOT KNOCKED THA’ FUCK OUT!”
#ChrisTuckerQuotes #ComedyGold #YouWin
Looks like Blaine’s gonna need to call an Amber lance.
What? Someone had to say it eventually?
What do you mean that Amazi-girl isn’t tagged? It says “Sal,” right there.
Oh, Danny-Boy!
Say, is that a Ka-Bar Sal is holding?
Not a real one, a cheap Chinese knock-off. A real K-Bar would dwarf Sal’s hand.
It just needs one more thing to be perfect: “T-This” really should be “Th-this.” I mean, I assume Sal isn’t talking to me, but that’s how “T-This” sounds.
(I could also stick a comma after “W-Well,” but that’s a little more of a judgment call.)
How has Ethan not recognize Sal yet?
Lack of interaction
wild freaking guess:
^^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^^
Counterargument/suggestion: perhaps Jon P’s scenario is partially correct, and despite the obvious explanation for why things didn’t work between Ethan and Amber, Amber still has that nagging doubt (brought back to the surface by Ethan and Joyce being a thing) that perhaps that scenario *is* what caused it, reality and evidence to the contrary.
Really, Amber only has to think that’s the case for it to affect her.
Is it bad that even when she’s taking a hostage I still find teen Sal to be adorable?
I can see why her parents prefer Walky
This really wrong but it feels so right but she’s gonna feel like a monster later though since she really doesn’t want to be anything like her father

OK, I love that first panel. It’s pretty great for such a simplistic style.
Oh boy. Oh boy oh boy. Oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy.
Just commenting here for this pic which I find fairly hilarious http://puu.sh/6Damc.jpg
…but won’t this make Danny think that Amazi-Girl is the bad guy? Won’t he side with Blaine now?
I really hope Danny smart enough to know to always side with your girlfriend. But that is asking a lot of him.
Oh shit, her voice in the last one! I didn’t even notice the half-Amazi-girl and half-Amber bubble at first.
yes about time Blaine got a ass kicking and from his own daughter amazing girl. for doubtful blaine will want to tell the cops that he was setting up his own daughter and using danny as bait. though hope amazing girl is smart enough not to go over board and kill blaine.
Cue Amber giving up Amazi-girl only to discover Amazi-girl is needed for real.
Boot to the face!
You missed.
HOLY SHIT! EVERYBODY LOOK AT THIS! WHAT IS HAPPENING?! AM I DREAMING YOU GUYS LOOK LOOK YOU GUYS
Wow.
Wait, this wasn’t the first time? My studies are flawed. I am shamed.
Fuck yes!
Has it been brought up that “What Sal fuckin’ wants” might be specifically to be sent to juvie, away from the home life that she hates?
On one hand, YES, KICK TO THE FACE!!!
OTOH, though, I’m feelin’ hard for Amber here. That must have been terrifying to see your S.O. as a hostage and being powerless to do much. 🙁
Sal, you are hilariously bad at crime.
DYNAMIC ENTRY!!
