Any non-nuclear, intact, happy families gonna show up? I know demographics of college students would have a higher rate of “standard” families… but I’d expect some diversity.
EvergreenFir is right this is the most non-inclusive and heteronormative comic ever. I’m just surprised Willis actually bothers to draw the non-white characters.
I’ve introduced three families so far out of a cast of dozens (of which we have already established includes divorced parents and orphans), and you’re already claiming I’m not being inclusive. We’re one week into a storyline that’s probably gonna be about twelve weeks. …and also today’s strip features Billie and Sal both complaining about their own dysfunctional families.
At first I thought you were just being cautious, but now I think you’re kinda being a jerk.
Younger siblings being raised by their older siblings who act as their legal guardians,
Extended families i.e nuclear families with grandparents, aunts/uncles, cousins included to the family unit,
Polygamist families,
Single parent families,
Adult orphans,
Families with divorced/separated parents,
and finally Step-Families.
Only two of those are free enough of economic challenges or social stigma to jump on the Go-to-a-University-Straight-Out-of-High-School-and-Start-Your-Freshman-Year-Before-You’re-even-Old-Enough-to-Drink-in-the-On-Campus-Dorms bandwagon in the 21st century just as easily as someone of a “standard” family from middle class or higher suburbia. This isn’t Bohemia U. We all can’t get to be Berkley, MIT, Yale or Standford alumni whose dorms were virtual United Nations moots. DoA is about how true that can be.
No matter how hard you yell, they can’t hear you. Also, the comic’s been written at least two months ahead of now. Even if you could affect things, they wouldn’t come into effect for at least 56 strips.
Have Billie and Sal ever been on the same wavelength? Seems to me all of their conversations never take place between them: more often over their heads, around corners, or off to the side?
Yeah, I am kind of wondering if she’ll put it back, or if this is a permanent change/upgrade (like Ruth’s eyes). I like the hair, but for some reason it seems.. out of character for her to keep it not straight, after having it that way for so long. Does that make sense?
It makes sense. Considering I caught myself up on It’s Walky (and saving to buy Joyce and Walky) recently, it DOES seem a bit out of character, but I dunno… it’s weird ’cause then again, it works for DoA Sal. Willis is always going to surprise us, and everything so far? He has yet to disappoint (if he ever will). He’s an awesome writer and artist, so even something as small as a hair style change will end up becoming a part of that character.
tl;dr
Sal is awesome curly hair or straight hair- at least she still has her windows. 😀
Nah, if she did the vigilante thing openly, the authorities would just make her stop. What she needs is just enough deniability. She should just do her vigilantism wearing a paper-thin disguise that anyone who’s paying any attention at all could see through.
I had forgotten 1) that Billie and Sal were roommates (which is weird, ‘cuz it was kind of a plot point for a few weeks at the beginning, and 2) that she thought Amazi-Girl was Sal.
Which is weird, because it’s pretty clear to me that Amazi-Girl is Faz. That’s why we haven’t seen Faz yet, all his scenes are as Amazi-Girl. I’m pretty sure that Willis is going to wait a few years to reveille it.
Is it just me, or have Sal’s boobs gotten smaller from the beach trip. I’m looking at the site banner featuring her boobs and am thinking something is amiss.
Are you all stupid? Amazi-Girl is obviously Amber! Sal is slimmer hotter while Amber is the same hair body and build! TAKE A PICTURE OF EACH PERSON THEN PUT THEM SIDE BYE SIDE!!!!! Plus why would Sal sneak out to play on a DS with a boy? SHE SNEAKS OUT TO HANG OUT WITH FRIENDS AND SMOKE!!!!’ Your all Bert not smart!
I can’t wait for Sal to figure out what Billie thinks of her.
me too, the funny.
I can’t wait for Danny to find out that Sal is Amazigirl. That is an awesome level of badness just waiting to happen.
This really stopped being funny months ago.
Well SOMEBODY is a Debbie Downer.
Wah-wah-waaaaaah
… or Somebody is Sal, trying to cover the fact that she’s Spidercar!
Every party needs a pooper that’s why they invited yooooou!
Party Pooooopeeeerrrrr!
Your mom stopped being funny months ago.
Seriously, tell her to stop making stupid jokes, they really suck.
She would. For a nickel. From Mike.
This is the first time jokes have run this long without utterly pissing me off. Keep it up, good peeps. Keep it up 😀
Will we see Amazigirls parents?
You mean Captain Amazing and Stupendous-Woman?
Mighty Mom and Dyno Dad?
No, Dyno Dad is Dina’s father. Spelled with a Y because Nineties.
Yes, and?
A.M.A.Z.O and The Amazon?
nice!
Colonel Trouser and Wonder Bra?
Billie just said they were coming.
Sal, making sure the goods are intact in the last panel.
Dat ass? Check.
Don’t you hate it when you forget to bring the booty?
Ah, poo. I left mine on that ship we all abandoned.
Suddenly, krakens.
Her glutes look really toned…she could probably bend a quarter between them.
Judging from her expression, they clearly are not.
She’s looking at Billie, so it can’ be that.
Any non-nuclear, intact, happy families gonna show up? I know demographics of college students would have a higher rate of “standard” families… but I’d expect some diversity.
I dunno. Mike’s parents are pretty cool. They want to hug everyone.
Uhh… I don’t even see how that’s a response to what EvergreenFir said?
Well They’re non-nuclear, intact, and so happy you’d think they’re on drugs.
They are nuclear (as in a mother and father, still together)
Oh. I thought Nuclear meant that being together makes them react violently. Like a nuclear reaction or something.
Well, there was a villain team called the Nuclear Family.
You’ve really never heard this term? Red up bra! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_family
Also because they are made of plutonium.
If you define a nuclear family as having the parents still be together, why did you add ‘intact’?
yeah, i’m familiar with the nuclear term but the “intact” part doesn’t make sense…
because I made a mistake
Why would you do this?! :O
Well just because the parents are still together doesn’t mean that they family’s intact. There are some pretty messed-up nuclear families out there.
Maybe Ethan? Also, would Robin come for Rod?
I wonder if any of the cast has gay/lesbian parents.
The expression “nuclear family” makes me think of a family of Atomic Skulls.
Man, if you think all of these families are gonna be happy, I don’t think you’ve been here long!
well, mayhaps Amber – I guess it depends if her familiy situation is the same in the dumbiverse as the walkyverse.
Amber at the very least. I hope, considering what her father was like in the Walkyverse.
EvergreenFir is right this is the most non-inclusive and heteronormative comic ever. I’m just surprised Willis actually bothers to draw the non-white characters.
harhar… just an observation that a typically inclusive comic is not being so in this case.
…. wait, seriously?
I’ve introduced three families so far out of a cast of dozens (of which we have already established includes divorced parents and orphans), and you’re already claiming I’m not being inclusive. We’re one week into a storyline that’s probably gonna be about twelve weeks. …and also today’s strip features Billie and Sal both complaining about their own dysfunctional families.
At first I thought you were just being cautious, but now I think you’re kinda being a jerk.
I think they were being sarcastic…
I *hope* they were being sarcastic
I pray they’re being sarcastic.
They better be.
Non-nuclear families would include:
Younger siblings being raised by their older siblings who act as their legal guardians,
Extended families i.e nuclear families with grandparents, aunts/uncles, cousins included to the family unit,

Billie is adorable with her hair down. Just sayin’.
Billie is always adorable.
Replace the word “adorable” with “smokin’ hot” and I agree 100%.
You took the words right out of my mouth.
Word.
Agreed
Yes I was thinking that as well.
yaaaay for real
Truth.
I would totally go lesbian for her, and I’m not even a girl.
…Mr. Garrison
Sounds like me…. a lesbian trapped in a man’s body.
No.
Paging Eddie Izzard.
Well unlike all of these other fools, I totally disagree! Billie looks so much cuter with the ponytail.
Agreed!
Billie should leave her hair down. And cleavage. Oh yeah.
Gotta remind the Walkertons why they like her so much.
She’s making herself look nice for her morning “check” on Ruth.
Because that’s not creepy at all.
The Walkerton she’s showing off her cleavage for is Sal.
Sadly, Sal’s missing that conversation, too.
“college girl shirts” gives actual shirts for bing too. For the most part. Kinda.
Well, he didn’t specify that they had to be WEARING the shirts…
Billie, if you wanna leave your hair down… that’s OK. I won’t admonish you.
Sadly Sal, we got the entire context of the conversation. Man, Billie needs to check her prescription.
She’s got a pretty strong perscription…of Beer Goggles.
Amazi-Girl. That’s what she means. She thinks that you’re AMAZI-GIRL Y-…no, no, don’t want that again…
No matter how hard you yell, they can’t hear you. Also, the comic’s been written at least two months ahead of now. Even if you could affect things, they wouldn’t come into effect for at least 56 strips.
Damn that Willis, and his incredible devotion to his craft!
It’s so hard to wrap my head around the idea that the whole of the parents-visiting storyline is already written, and exists.
Ah, Billie, always so fine.
Also, something about parents? Whatever, THAT BILLIE.
She’s fine like wine, want to make her mine.
Hey Billie, you so fine, you so fine you blow my mind, hey Billie!
You know how long I wanted to keep that song out of my head?
Arrrgh! Damn you!
Heh. Doubly appropriate song considering her history and it’s cheer related nature.
Have Billie and Sal ever been on the same wavelength? Seems to me all of their conversations never take place between them: more often over their heads, around corners, or off to the side?
I cannot help but assume that is intentional 🙂
Is it just me, or does Sal’s curly hair get more awesome every time I see it?
Not just you! Her unpressed hair is her secret weapon of sexiness. Was. We all kinda know now. But it’s still dangerous!
The explodey, unfettered version was the zenith for me. I am going to miss the luxurious chocolate river.
Yeah, I am kind of wondering if she’ll put it back, or if this is a permanent change/upgrade (like Ruth’s eyes). I like the hair, but for some reason it seems.. out of character for her to keep it not straight, after having it that way for so long. Does that make sense?

Sal is awesome curly hair or straight hair- at least she still has her windows. 😀
I still think it looks ugly.
Nah, if she did the vigilante thing openly, the authorities would just make her stop. What she needs is just enough deniability. She should just do her vigilantism wearing a paper-thin disguise that anyone who’s paying any attention at all could see through.
Is Billie legally blind?
You know, I’d be surprised if Mr. and Mrs. Walkerton visited Sal first.
I am just in awe of Billie’s line in panel 2. So perfectly constructed.
I’m in agreement. That is one of the best play on words I’ve ever heard.
Too bad it’s a disgruntled commentary on apparently ineffective parents.
Willis, if your not finding porn on the internet via a google search, your clearly doing it wrong…..right?….wrong?….weird. Your doing it weird.
Mike and Billie’s mom would get along great from the sound of it. For a nickel, naturally.
Salbutt
I love this comic. Slight boobage, clever word play, and junk examining. It’s like Willis knows all of my happy thoughts and puts them into one comic.
That shirt is really sexy on Billie. Especially because the stripes are skin-coloured. Makes me think of those sheer shirts that are so in these days.
That shirt is really sexy on Billie because it’s on Billie.
No other reason needs to be claimed.
Billie can make anything look sexy.
Billie can make wearing a paper bag look sexy.
I was rather hoping Amazi-girl would turn out to be Ultra-car.
Ultra-car is just a regular SUV with no intelligence in this universe. Just like most Autobots.
I hope Ultra-Car’s human form appears here under a human name.
*turns on radio station* whaaaaaaa
Nah, Amazi-Girl is Danny.
What, you’ve never seen Fight Club?
THAT WOULD BE THE FUNNIEST AND MOST TWISTED THING.
Even worse because of the few others who have seen her.
Dude not funny…you sholdn’t kid about Amazi-girl not really being a she.
Billie, how are your glasses doing that? They usually have sidearms that rest on your ears, but they’re gone.
Billie are you… are you a wizard?
Is it just me, or have Sal’s boobs gotten smaller from the beach trip. I’m looking at the site banner featuring her boobs and am thinking something is amiss.
Maybe *that’s* why I think she looks sexier with the smooth, flowing wave of hair!
Cleavage!
Cleavage, thy name is Billie.
oh my god
this is how danny and sal get together in this universe isn’t it
Mutual bonding over hatred of parents? Or bafflement of what’s going on around them?
While Sal’s wearing a disguise and roughing up muggers under a pseudonym?
Well, evidence does suggest it’s the fastest way to his heart.
I’d say the evidence points to the fastest way to his heart is to look like his ex.
Somehow Jason’s going to meet Mr. and Mrs. Walkerton and it’s going to be wonderfully awkward.
so many bad things jjst waiting to happen
someone pass me the angry chainsaw, I’ve catch up again… i need to cut something up
Are you all stupid? Amazi-Girl is obviously Amber! Sal is slimmer hotter while Amber is the same hair body and build! TAKE A PICTURE OF EACH PERSON THEN PUT THEM SIDE BYE SIDE!!!!! Plus why would Sal sneak out to play on a DS with a boy? SHE SNEAKS OUT TO HANG OUT WITH FRIENDS AND SMOKE!!!!’ Your all Bert not smart!
I dunno mang, I think Ambers hotter.
Amber looks nothing like Amazi-Girl, I have no idea what you’re talking about?
Sal ain’t the type that games. While Amber is. I was right when I said America is getting stupider then it already was (While ago don’t ask)
