It’s like a who’s who of Shortpacked!‘s least popular players. On the left we’ve got Blaine O’Malley, Amber’s divorced and estranged father. He hasn’t been around in Amber’s life much, for Reasons. One of those reasons might involve Faz, on the right, a member of the family Blaine remarried into, but it’s not the most important one.
Not a lot of redesigning going on here. Blaine is the Old Universe’s Blaine, but with his temple grays replaced with lighter browns. Faz is Faz with a t-shirt instead of his usual toy store uniform.
Let’s see how they are in this universe.

Faz is the kind of character you love to hate.
Blaine is the kind of character you just hate.
At least, that’s how it was in the Shortpacked! universe. We’ll see what happens here, but I’m not optimistic.
Faz at least can be funny. What I’m really worried about/excited for is that since he wrote Blaine in SP!, Willis has gotten a LOT better at writing villains and non-sympathetic characters, as Joyce’s parents here demonstrate.
So yeah, prepare for some really heartrending panels of emotional abuse!
I’m still going through the SP archives to catch up, but my impression there was Blaine was close-minded and mean. Here, he looks conniving. Fax, on the other hand, remains Faz.

Of course there was no redesign, how can you improve on the perfection that is The Great Faz?

Am I the only one willing to see how this plays out before hating Blaine? He’s had one appearance so far. He said hello. How is he an asshole again? Because he shares a name and look with someone from another story entire?
I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’m sure he’s going to do plenty of stuff to make us hate him, pretty soon, but at least for now he could be a nice guy!
His face just looks swarmy in his first appearance.

Don’t worry, that’s the point of dumbing of age anyway. Willis has said repeatedly that he wants the characters in this continuity to develop independently from the other continuity so it’s probably even better if you aren’t familiar with these characters and can go in with fresh eyes.

I find it interesting how these characters generate hatred on first sight.

Am I the only one really looking forward to these two together? Blaine is the control freak extraordinaire. Faz is the most uncontrollable force on the planet. They may team up against Amber, but they will turn on each other eventually and it will be glorious.

Faz still has the brown highlight. My *guess* is that “One of those reasons might involve Faz, on the right, a member of the family Blaine remarried into” is meant to imply that he had Faz by cheating on Amber’s mom and then married Faz’s mother after the divorce, but there’s a lot of assumption in that.
That’s a possibility but usually the term step sibling is reserved for non blood related siblings. In the Walkyverse they’re half siblings.
