Pre-Marital Hankey-Pankey. Joyce in the old continuity used to shout it whenever she saw people so much as holding hands unescorted. No clue about MDMA, though.
I always get that on my new characters. For some reason though it never really works out the way I intend it. I guess his wardrobe isn’t really designed to accentuate such features.
Oh man. I cannot listen to this song without riffing. Things I’ve come up with for the first two lines alone:
“Does she want a medal?”
“Soon she’ll learn how to talk, too!”
“I can finally take the training legs off!”
And for just the first line:
“I usually date double-amputees.”
If you really want to please us
Give us a moment to talk about Jesus
If you’ve really been feeling hot
Take this time to learn from god
Although my outfits one of temtation
I’m here to save you from Damnation
Don’t you need a Jesus
Don’t you need a- need a Jesus
Billie chose . . . wisely. Although, I hope she doesn’t want Joyce to wear those boots with that dress. Buy some nice flats to go with that dress, Joyce!
I have existed from the morning of the foot and I shall exist until the last aglet falls from the night. Although I have taken the form of Uggs, I am all shoe as I am no shoe and therefore I am…a God. I shall wait for the unanimous decision of Payless ShoeSource, Crocs.
Funny, I thought we already had heard Raidah’s side of the story. From her own mouth. In her first appearance. And I paraphrase: “Sarah’s a narc, just because she’s a huge joykill who hates people. I disregard the fact that the narcee was doing illegal drugs – we liked her. I hope Sarah chokes.” (Most of the paraphrasing is that this was actually said to Sarah’s face.)
She doesn’t seem to have left herself a lot of wiggle room there.
Sure there is. Why would she bother telling more of the story to someone who was there?
There’s almost always more to a story when you’ve only heard one side of it. Even if you’ve heard two sides to a story, the audience and biases of those telling the story need to be considered. Raidah, when talking to Sarah, is an unreliable narrator because her anger over losing her friend can make her exaggerate, ignore bits of the story (that are inconvenient to her side of things or that she just plain forgot), or otherwise leave stuff out. She’ll still be an unreliable narrator when telling Billie and Joyce what happened because she’ll be trying to paint Sarah in a negative light, but we’ll likely hear more extenuating circumstances than we’ve had from her or Sarah so far. Finally, Sarah’s also been an unreliable narrator. Her dislike of people and Dana in particular, coupled with the fact that she’s only summarized the story, means that we really don’t know much for certain other than the fact that Dana did drugs, the drugs were illegal, and Dana got booted after Sarah narced.
Do we need to hear Raidah’s side? Sarah is a stormtrooper in the drug war, due to whom her friend is now rotting in prison, and she’s proud of it. ‘Nuff said.
On the day I was born
The nurses all gathered ’round
And they gazed in wide wonder
At the joy they had found
The head nurse spoke up
Said “leave this one alone-r”
She could tell right away
That I was bad to the boner
I really, really relate to Joyce here. I went to middle school with Orthodox Jews (the style was 3/4 sleeves and skirts below knees. Cleavage was unthinkable). There, the clothing message was “dress modestly, so as not to distract the opposite gender from their studies”. I therefore spent many years intentionally trying to dress unsexily. My college years might’ve been different had I allowed myself to show cleavage and legs — I wouldn’t change my own experience, but I’m curious to see how Joyce handles the extra attention.
What about a fez? Possibly a Stetson? Either works~
Could also go with a celery stalk, 3-D glasses (the red&blue ones), or a really long rainbow scarf.
Boys in one school, girls in another. End the problem. Of course, you’ll get OTHER problems but …no plan is perfect.
Waiting to see Sarah’s face when she walks into this scene.
Raidah actually strikes me as pretty together, overall. It’s kind of jarring that when Sarah’s not on panel, drugs don’t seem to exist (except in the form of roofies), not even where Roz and Billie are concerned. I think Joyce could stand to learn some extracurricular pharmacology.
…oh, God, I just had an awful thought – what if this brings her back into contact with Ryan? That would be horrible…
Hey there, long time reader, first time poster. Anyway, my wife is a self-described “recovering fundie” (though still religious. “She has a degree in theology from an infamous fundie college! He’s an Atheist Jew! They fight crime have a happy marriage!”) One of the things I’ve learned from her is that fundie women don’t wear pants. Skirts (ankle length, of course) only. (Yes, this is the kind of pointless nitpicking only nerds do. Your comics target nerds. You expected something else?)
My understanding of fundamentalists of all kinds and creeds is that their motto is something along the lines of “If I do it, it’s OK for me but not necessarily anyone else. If I don’t like it, it’s a sin, but I might still do it because it’s OK for me.”
I get the feeling that Raidah and company don’t like Sarah because their idea of being good friends means you support and go along with every single dumbass thing your friends do no matter how negatively it will affect their lives. Or for taking anyone else’s side if your friends are in the wrong.
Raidah pretty much boiled down her friend/not friend litmus test to “fun to hang out with” which can range pretty wildly. Things probably not on the list: studying, sitting in your dorm room trying to avoid drama which Sarah has been powerleveling.
Though right now we haven’t really seen enough of Char and Chan to really guage what kind of friends Raidah does have. Chan has been a background character who so far only makes faces for effect and helped Char bust on Dina for being “mentally challenged” (and until word of god said otherwise I assumed she was a Jersey shore inspire fake spray tan oompa-loompa. And Char is so far just a douche. But they must at least be “fun.”
You know what negatively affects someone’s life? Getting expelled.
It is quite easy to see things as “Sarah threw someone that was at least a friend of her friends under the bus.” Frankly I wouldn’t want to be her friend either.
I don’t expect friends to come out to bat for me if I’m doing something stupid or illegal, but I do expect them NOT to help me get caught.
Except if Sarah’s roomate got busted without her help? SHE could be in danger of getting expelled, because if there are drugs in your dorm room, the authorities aren’t going to be able to distinguish who they belonged to.
So you first try to convince her not to keep drugs in the room, then try to convince your mutual friends to HELP convince her, then present an ultimatum “i am going to have to report you if you don’t stop” and THEN you can report. If you don’t try solutions that DON’T get your friend kicked out first, you arent just throwing someone.e under the bus, you’re throwing someone out of the bus for CONVENIENCE. Sarah MAY have tried these things, but we don’t KNOW yet.
Except that as far as we know, Sarah did try this. In this school year, she’s shooting down anything she thinks will be harmful as soon as possible, but that could easily be a reaction to a disastrous process of appeasement last year. We just don’t know the details yet.
So for now, it’s probably best to not make assumptions to either extreme and condemn Sarah or Raidah. Especially since Sarah isn’t talking and Raidah is a clearly biased narrator.
Yeah Joyce. You are rockin’ that dress, the whole outfit brings out your natural beauty (and Hotness). Makes her look better than Anti-Joyce. I’ have always loved Joyce through all her Incarnations.
Aww, Joyce is looking adorable in that get-up. Yellow is a good color on her. Billy in make-over mode is oddly reminding me of my older sister in a good way.
Don’t remember her……Maybe she leads to Joyce’s first lesbain P.M.H.P.?
You have a really short memory.
That I do.
I’m thinking less PMHP, more MDMA.
Billie’s first lesbian PMHP, I’m not ruling out.
(Also, weed helps the memory, man.
…or maybe hurts it. One sec.)
MDMA like the drug, or are we getting clever with the acronyms?
May Decrease Mental Acuity?
P.M.H.P.?
Pre-Marital Hankey-Pankey. Joyce in the old continuity used to shout it whenever she saw people so much as holding hands unescorted. No clue about MDMA, though.
“3,4-methylenedioxy-N-methylamphetamine.”
(…ecstasy.)
“(…ecstasy.)” isn’t meant to indicate the common name of the drug. Raen just really, really, really likes typing out the names of chemicals.
ooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
i coulda sworn her first pmhp was with walky, but, i’unno for certs…
….
Prepaid Mental Health Plan?
I second that emotion… PMHP… Prepaid Mental Health Plan? What?
Google’s got nothin’
She has no problem with the cleavage though. Huh, thought that’d be what she freaked out over.
Personally I think she looks nice without going into Sarah’s trashy worries.
I concur!
Same here. I think that the outfit works on her. By the standards of today, she could do a lot worse in terms of any measurement of trashiness.
Could’ve been worse. She could be wearing only tassels and a bikini.
How could you think that would be . . . worse?
I don’t think you understand. You can see her knees! Knees are the new ankles.
Joyce must have chosen Great Cleavage as one of her feats for her character.
I always get that on my new characters. For some reason though it never really works out the way I intend it. I guess his wardrobe isn’t really designed to accentuate such features.
I bet lil Miss Chizuru wuld love a little more Cleavge eh? And Definitely soe Lesbo PMHP action… Alright I’m bordering on creppy, lemme stop.
I think Walky will see her in the new dress, try to go for her, will get
rejected at first, but it’ll happen in the end.
Actually her famous yellow dress shows a relatively comparable amount of cleavge.
She just hasn’t gotten to processing that yet, give it a few minutes.
What’s the manikin in the back of the last panel modeling? A green ranger power vest?
I think that’s a smock. Either that, or some kind of scarf.
http://www.carenstyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/roman-clothing5.jpg
This can only end in tears.
And a baseball bat to the face.
Oh, good gravy, why?!
Good gravy? Where?
Good gravy Who!
Thank goodness…all my gravy sucks!
Om Nom Gravy
She got legs, she knows how to use them.
I would say she almost certainly does not yet know how to use them.
You’re making ZZ Top sadder with every word you type. You monster.
right, then left….right?
QWOP
Oh man. I cannot listen to this song without riffing. Things I’ve come up with for the first two lines alone:

Somewhere, lightning strikes the earth dramatically.
This has nothing to do with the events of the comic. I just thought that was cool.
Somewhere, Great Mazinger is kicking the Mycenean Empire’s ass.
Somewhere, a Black Mage just finished off Leviathan with Thundaga.
Somewhere, Grendizer is destroying the Vegan Empire with its Space Thunder.
Somewhere, a Jolteon just finished off a Gyarados with Thundaga
And in another place, Frog and Crono just pwned Magus with their Thunder Sword.
Holy crap, a Chrono Trigger reference!
Robo received Atropos’s ribbon. His speed increased by 3 and his magical defense increased by 10!
And somewhere the tea’s getting cold…
Somewhere, Rainbow Dash and Nyan Cat are teaming up to create a DOUBLE RAINBOW!
I’ve got heat Lighting going on here in Maryland so your actually correct.
That lightning is probably from a heat storm we had in Kentucky less than a week ago.
And then Billy Batson turns into CAPTAIN MARVEL!
Shazam?
PYLE!
wasnt that a shaquile oneil movie?
I think Billie wants to give Joyce the kind of attention that Billie would like to receive, though that’s probably not the best thing for Joyce.
But its the best thing for me. S=J
dun dun DUN….
Beat me to it.
By an hour and two minutes.
I don’t know why… but Joyce is making me want a Fanta.
If you really want to please us

If you’ve really been feeling hot

You win ALL of the Grammys!
Billie chose . . . wisely. Although, I hope she doesn’t want Joyce to wear those boots with that dress. Buy some nice flats to go with that dress, Joyce!
What you mean you can’t wear uggs with everything? *mindblown*
Billie’s mind is blown as well.
But Uggs go with everything and nothing at the same time.
They are Meta-Footwear.
Schrodinger’s boots!
I have existed from the morning of the foot and I shall exist until the last aglet falls from the night. Although I have taken the form of Uggs, I am all shoe as I am no shoe and therefore I am…a God. I shall wait for the unanimous decision of Payless ShoeSource, Crocs.
Flats? Flats? Who do you think she is, Martha Stewart? Get that girl some black leather spike-heeled boots.
It doesn’t really need to be said, but Joyce looks good in that outfit. Also, wow Billie is being nice.
Joyce is about to become a pawn in the game of bongo.
Game of bongo? Why is it that could somehow be made into a book and/or a television series?
Forget that, it should be a board game.
roll a 3…
“You bully the new kid until she breaks down in math class and runs into the bathroom crying. 5 point bonus”
You convince a girl prettier than you that sge is ugly, 50 points.
It leads to therapy sessions later in life, 100 points.
The only way bongo The Game can live up to its name is if it causes more fights than Monopoly.
Or more board- and table-flipping
Or…a bongo school?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sq3YD7fNZTI
“What’s a dashing homeschooler like you doing in a communal setting like this?”
“Joyce not know. Joyce only pawn…in game of bongo.”
You. Win. Everything.
Hahaha! Exactly the reference I had in mind. Full marks.
Can’t wait to see Walky’s reaction to her new look.
In the immortal words of Jayne Cobb, “I’ll be in my bunk.”
Dun-dun-DUNNN!
*dramatic turn of the head*
[dramatic line]
‘I must break you.’
Jesus, does the entire fanbase comment before 1 am?
Sorry, new guy here
Sorry, that belonged on the previous comic
well even though this question is directed at Jesus, I will answer.
Yes…we do
To be fair not all of us do… I work too late for that fairly often, not getting home until 2:30 or so.
IT depends. You usually got around 50 people who all comment and Interact around that time.
I take it we’re about to hear Raidah’s side of the story? Excellent.
*wiggles fingers while tapping them together and grinning*
Funny, I thought we already had heard Raidah’s side of the story. From her own mouth. In her first appearance. And I paraphrase: “Sarah’s a narc, just because she’s a huge joykill who hates people. I am a bit worried for Joyce, but at least she can’t go wrong with that dress. Dayumm.
As short as that skirt is…it’s still no match for Billie’s shorts.
No, Willis! Bad artist, bad!
Why is he bad??
Because he lacks sufficient self-restraint to prevent him from taking negative actions.
He’s bad to the boner.
B-b-b-b-b-bad.
On the day I was born
The nurses all gathered ’round
And they gazed in wide wonder
At the joy they had found
The head nurse spoke up
Said “leave this one alone-r”
She could tell right away
That I was bad to the boner
You should be ashamed of yourself. That was terrible.
It doesn’t even have the right tempo!
Yum.
I really, really relate to Joyce here. I went to middle school with Orthodox Jews (the style was 3/4 sleeves and skirts below knees. Cleavage was unthinkable). I must say, the fact that you are currently sporting a Jason Gravatar made me very confused for a second.
So naturally, you’re avatar is of the most stuffy and formally dressed character across all universes.
It makes perfect sense.
Yeah, that did work out nicely, didn’t it.
And now I want to see Jason in a skirt.
Gah, need brain bleach… mental image… so wrong… at least take off the bowtie…
Absolutely not! He must wear a skirt AND a bow tie. Anything else, however, is unnecessary.
What about a fez? Possibly a Stetson? Either works~
Could also go with a celery stalk, 3-D glasses (the red&blue ones), or a really long rainbow scarf.

Or put the bowtie somewhere else.
I haven’t commented here in a while.

Those aren’t problems. They’re profits
FAAACE
There we go, all is right in the Walkieverse now.
Sarah should at least be pleased that Billie hasn’t dressed Joyce up as skankzilla (yet).
Skankzilla: adored by dicks and Dina
Also can I say I’m glad Joyce wants Sarah’s opinion?
Raidah actually strikes me as pretty together, overall. It’s kind of jarring that when Sarah’s not on panel, drugs don’t seem to exist (except in the form of roofies), not even where Roz and Billie are concerned. I think Joyce could stand to learn some extracurricular pharmacology.
…oh, God, I just had an awful thought – what if this brings her back into contact with Ryan? That would be horrible…
I beleive she would possibly
A) Beat his face in with another glass
B) Call Sarah to beat him with her bat again
C) Call the police
D) All the above.
You mea beat his FAAACE in?
Uh oh… spagettios.
I hate to agree with Billie, but Joyce does rock that dress.
I really like this new New 52 Wonder Girl redesign.
But she still lacks a chest window.
That’s Power Girl.
That is a pretty cute outfit, Joyce.
Is that the chick from KaBlam?
I am in love with that jacket, and the dress totally goes! And it’s not a Billy clone outfit, either. Billy is doing a great job!
Wow, Mike has alot of targets in this alternate universe.
Maybe Joyce would feel more secure if she were also using opaque tights? They cover, yet still nicely show legs off.
I’m getting even more curious as to how Sarah broke up with Raidah and co… Raidah’s shaping up to be a rather intriguing character…
Hey there, long time reader, first time poster. Anyway, my wife is a self-described “recovering fundie” (though still religious. “She has a degree in theology from an infamous fundie college! He’s an Atheist Jew! They
fight crimehave a happy marriage!”) One of the things I’ve learned from her is that fundie women don’t wear pants. Skirts (ankle length, of course) only. (Yes, this is the kind of pointless nitpicking only nerds do. Your comics target nerds. You expected something else?)The fundie women I hung out with sure wore pants! And sometimes shorts like Billie is wearing. They can be quite diverse.
My understanding of fundamentalists of all kinds and creeds is that their motto is something along the lines of “If I do it, it’s OK for me but not necessarily anyone else. If I don’t like it, it’s a sin, but I might still do it because it’s OK for me.”
It’s almost like people are -individuals- regardless of their religious affiliation or something.

“SHE” being Sarah, for clarification.
I am not sure what that “except” was correcting since that is basically what the last thing I said was?
You mean Sarah’s not a biased narrator? Amazing! Someone who can tell a story in which they are a main component without any bias whatsoever!
Yeah Joyce. You are rockin’ that dress, the whole outfit brings out your natural beauty (and Hotness). Makes her look better than Anti-Joyce. I’ have always loved Joyce through all her Incarnations.
The “nice legs” comment reminded me of this article in Scientific American last month: “Our Brains See Men as Whole and Women as Parts” – http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=our-brains-see-men-as-whole-women-as-parts&WT.mc_id=SA_WR_20120801
We even replicate it in comics!
It’s not a male-sexist thing – both men and women do this.
Raidah’s looking a lot nicer since her very first appearance. Did she take a redesign or it’s mostly the subtle shifts in style Willis’ been making?
Wow, Joyce is mega hot in that dress. Wonder how long until Joe’s penis sense starts tingling?
Aww, Joyce is looking adorable in that get-up. Yellow is a good color on her. Billy in make-over mode is oddly reminding me of my older sister in a good way.
Well…fuck
