As my female friend explained it, you just have to get your foot further back — it STILL hurts. (She got ‘accidentally’ kicked there in a soccer game.)
About bloody time someone stood up to her. If I was a girl I’d have stood toe-to-toe with her no matter how hard I got beat down. And the tubbo name-calling was uncalled for. Although I’d say, “Tubbo? Wow, I thought someone with your “higher education” could come up with something better you self-righteous, overbearing, sactimnious windbag.”
Know what happens when you and your ra assault each other in a kiddie pool full of mud? Raises from most of the male readers…and I’m not talkin about money.
Keep in mind Billie still has the pictures of Ruth passed out with alcohol in hand. I’m actually surprised Billie didn’t insinuate that again, but seeing as how Ruth took her by surprise she probably didn’t think of it. Perhaps that’s for later. Meanwhile I like where this is going.
Why is it always “Cat fight! rawr hiss hahahaha!” whenever women fight? You could have two men fighting over the pettiest reason, and it’s a fight, and usually turns into an action sequence. But two women? Context doesn’t matter! Let’s point and laugh and hope they tear each other’s clothes!
Personally I was hoping that the explanation wouldn’t make guys look like complete idiots, even if the reasoning behind the appeal is stable and I’d be lying if I claimed ignorance that that is the specific appeal for many men. One could make the argument though that some guys like women who aren’t afraid of a fight or can win one much like some women like men who file into that category.
Nobody should hit anybody. Violence is not an acceptable way of resolving conflict.
That’s not to say nobody does, I just don’t think we should be talking about who’s allowed to hit whom when the whole concept of violence as conflict resolution is abhorrent.
Violence is an inferior and flawed method of resolving conflict, but I wouldn’t say that it’s always ‘unacceptable’. It reflects badly on the person who has to resort to violence, but it can be preferable to inaction if the person is incapable of developing an alternative strategy of conflict resolution.
If one is in a situation where violence is the only option that they can find, then there shouldn’t be a question of who can hit who – there should be no option but to hit whoever one needs to hit. If there’s an option, then they should still be trying to find alternative solutions.
The stereotype (to my way of thinking) is due in part to a mental block. When dealing with the same gender, there is a sense of territory, dominance, pride, and other foolishness that seems to bring about violence as the only alternative. When dealing with the opposite gender, this seems to rarely come into play. In other words, I was brought up that violence, in general, should be avoided, but sometimes it can’t be. While I was brought up not to hit a lady, I will say that as Sean Connery once said, “Sometimes you just have to slap the bongo.”
Notice I said “just as much” as all the other situations? That completely avoids the debate as to how acceptable violence is in general. Whatever you deem the acceptable level and situations for violence, it’s the same across the board for genders.
I do agree that violence is not a solution in real world situations but… we’re talking about comics. It’s such an irritating trope to see. Such as when a super villainess is wiping the floor with a male superhero because he refuses to hit a girl.
I like the idea that Sal is lifting Ruth by the top of her head. First, because the way her hand is drawn, it definitely does not look like she’s just holding hair. Second, because it’s much cooler for her to be lifting Ruth by her scalp than to just be pulling hair.
Alternately:
“Listen, once when we were kids, we went ice skating, and she fell through the ice. She was under there for three hours, and when they pulled her out, not only was she still alive, she was pregnant.”
ACTually, I caught it the first time, but I’m trying to make “when you’re that cool, etc.” a meme of sorts. But then i thought a RvB quote might actually be an appropriate response. Several minutes later. [facepalm]
And yes, #-1 is that awesome. (Alternate reply: “I like me.”)
Nope. But since Billie actually got Sal to sign the roomie agreement, Ruth’s ego is hurt, so she’s pissed off and looking for an excuse to bully Billie.
There was an excuse for Ruth for a while. Up until right about when she goaded Billie into attacking her, and debatably including that act, she could have been honestly trying for the hardass philosophy of achieving order and peace. Everything after that put her definitively into the sadistic bully camp, though.
There will be blood! This strip is far more entertaining then that movie good cinematography though.(digression) My money (if i actually were to bet on this) would be on Sal, but I think it’s more likely that Ruth may just back down due to Sal’s epicness(<– not actually a word)
Also in panel three judging by both her expression and dialogue, Billie appears to be growing a spine! Which if Sal had not appeared would have been promptly snapped.
Please don’t let this be Ruth’s death, please don’t let this be Ruth’s death, please don’t let this be Ruth’s death, please don’t let this be Ruth’s death.
Billie breaks out the Spider Jerusalem quotes. “I may have to order my filthy assistant to defenestrate you. And we wouldn’t want anything to happen to your fenestrates, now would we?”
Willis has started doing that all over his Tumblr; but gladly! At least it’s easier to keep track of than Questionable Content. I get the feeling Jaqcues doesn’t really know what day it is either. How can you say no to Pintsize, though?
“Does anybody really know what time it is,
Does anybody really care!?
What part of Alabama do they not say howdy? At least, all of my family that is from Alabama does. And most of the south when someone wants to get their attention in a “You’re-ass-is-grass” voice. Contempt just adds such a flavor to the southern drawl and all that, you know.
Ruth’s a bully, so of course she’s going to try to go for what she thinks will hurt her intended victim. Love that “must… restrain… fist… of death!” moment from Sal behind her.
As Kurosaki-kun mentioned, Ruth is a bully. And she knows Billie, an ex-cheerleader, is sensitive about her appearance. She’s just being somewhat unimaginative (or lazy) and going for the easy ego-bruise.
Hmmm, this is a hard one to call. On one hand, Sal has super awesome alien powers in another universe. On the other, Ruth has overalls in same said universe. Gonna be a close fight.
The students in the dorm are either indifferent, or live in utter fear of her She also has made it clear (I cannot remember the exact strip) that she would not get fired because the RA directors love her, although there has been a lot of illegal drinking emotional trauma, illegal entry into the dorms and she has done nothing it seems but torture Billie so yeah she sucks as an RA
exactly! If she had a good control and eye on things, I’d say “yeah, she’s a bongo, but she knows how to do her job”. But thus far, she’s spent all her time and energy on screen trying to torture Billie. Meanwhile, even if the kids are afraid, their parents wouldn’t be. I find it hard to believe that in a dorm full of students, none of them have mentioned to their parents the evil RA who threatens and steals from them.
I seriously think she has some kind of blackmail on the administration or something.
Okay..liked the strip, but if Sal starts using the word ‘sugah’ she might as well start wearing green and yellow spandex (with all due respects to Dr. K ‘it’s not spandex!’) and we simply just call her ‘Rogue’.
I’m sure she can fly and all that already since…ya know…she’s Sal.
Thus Sal vanquished Ruth then proceeded off with the fair Billie upon her motorcycle, popping a wheelie and revving the motor before they drive off into the sunset to go live happily ever after.
SHOWDOWN WOO
Angels sang out an immaculate chorus,
Down from the heavens descended Sal
WaltersWalkerton+1 for the Ultimate Showdown reference. This begs the question, however… who then in this universe is Mr Rogers?
Dina.
Clearly it’s Joyce.
Who delivered a kick that could shatter bones…
Into the crotch of Ruth (I wanna say… Jones?)
who was unaffected, being a girl, as Amazi-girl changed back into Amber.
As my female friend explained it, you just have to get your foot further back — it STILL hurts. (She got ‘accidentally’ kicked there in a soccer game.)
(it actually works if you say it as is, Blob)
Who fell over on the ground,
Writhing in pain,
As
BatmanWalky changed back,Into David Willis,
But Sal saw through
His clever disguise,
And she crushed Willis’ head
In between her thighs.
(What a way to go.)
Then Galasso the Boss and Galasso the Pizza and
Roomies’ and It’s Walky’s Joe Ro’ [sic]
FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!
Finally, someone to stand up to her. Don’t let me down, Sal!
I <3 panel 4. I have a… violent… hatred of bullies.
She’s gotta protect her woman :3
Know what happens when you assault your RA?
EXPELLED.
Know what happens when youe RA assaults you?
A RAISE.
Know what happens when your RA EXPELLED A RAISE? Yeah, me neither.
Sal’s just brushing a leaf off Ruth’s hair.
Know what happens when you and your ra assault each other in a kiddie pool full of mud? Raises from most of the male readers…and I’m not talkin about money.
I’m sure money could be arranged as well.
Yeah but the money would probably come from some female readers too
What’s that? You assaulted a student? Here, have a bag of money.
Know what happens if Sal gets expelled?
She shows up at Ruth’s and takes the raise Ruth earned, along with her lunch money. 😛
And then Sal puts it somewhere really uncomfortable.
Like the backseat of a Toyota Tercel.
And then Sal puts it somewhere really uncomfortable.
Like the backseat of a Toyota Tercel.
And then Sal puts it somewhere really uncomfortable.
Like the backseat of a Toyota Tercel.
Are you sure it’s not the back of a Volkswagon?
Hey now, why is it only my open tags that ruin the whole section?
Sal just… became one of my favorite characters.
Wasn’t already? gtfo of my comments you don’t deserve them!!
Seconded.
Also, spoiler alert–Sal is Amazi-girl’s Father.
She’s just that awesome.
I have gained new respect for Sal.
As Joe would say “Okay now make out…make out…make out…”
They were going to make out, then Ruth took an arrow to the knee.
‘Cuz Mike was out shooting people in the knees with a bow and arrow. After he fucked their mothers for a nickle. And then shot them in the knees.
with their own femurs.
Arrows made of femurs
No wonder the guards stopped adventuring. How do you go on after your own femurs were crafted into arrows and shot into your knee?
And now I love Sal even more.
Ruth, you don’t get to abuse Sal’s roommate.
That’s Sal’s job.
Damn it, Sal. Don’t you see you’re interrupting Ruth’s fun? Besides, Billlie wants a piece of her freckled ass.
Billie will have to settle for sloppy seconds cos Sal gets firsties.
Sal is resisting the urge to grab Ruth’s ass in panel 3. Now you can’t unsee it.
And that’s a bad thing because?
It isn’t, but now you won’t be able to think of any other interpretation.
Place ya bets here!
Personally, I’m hoping for another Amazigirl intervention. Because the only thing better than a three girl catfight is a four girl catfight.
The only thing better than a four girl catfight is battle royal catfight.
Actually, that’s kind of irritating.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wrL9z3Kvww
This is why the ‘catfight’ is appealing.
The very category of Ethan and Willis? (In the other comic’s universe, at least.) If that wasn’t a cat fight there, I haven’t seen one, yet.
I rest my case.
Actually, most girl fights I’ve seen are pretty brutal and violent. Worse than guy fights. And THAT is why I find them entertaining.
Cat fights are entertaining because that bongo needs a brutal takedown and us guys can’t hit a girl. So we like seeing a girl doing the job we can’t.
Plus if clothes get ripped up during the fight, we generally ain’t complaining.
Bullshit. Guys can hit a girl just as much as girls can hit guys or one gender can hit their own gender.
Stop perpetuating stupid gender norms. 😐
… You were doing so well up until the Connery quote.
Amazi-girl would probably try to break up the fight.
Sal must be picking Ruth off the floor going by Ruth’s face.
She can’t be. I don’t see any black eyes, missing teeth or even any blood.
I think sal can expect one of three possible outcomes from ruth.
1. She’ll roundhouse kick sal in the chin. Thereby knocking her clear across the room.
2. She’ll make out with her.
3. Ruth will cry like a baby and beg for mercy.
My guess it’s just that Sal has grabbed some of Ruth’s hair. That can be painful.
I like the idea that Sal is lifting Ruth by the top of her head. First, because the way her hand is drawn, it definitely does not look like she’s just holding hair. Second, because it’s much cooler for her to be lifting Ruth by her scalp than to just be pulling hair.
Thirdly, I <3 Sal and want to have her babies.
“This doesn’t seem physically possible!”
Hey, when you’re that cool, you don’t need a…
Oh, wait, I already made that joke, back when we started shipping Billie and Sal…
Alternately:
“Listen, once when we were kids, we went ice skating, and she fell through the ice. She was under there for three hours, and when they pulled her out, not only was she still alive, she was pregnant.”
Trust Caboose to miss an RvB reference (because -1 is just that awesome).
Comment posterity is serious business =P
I think Ruth wants her beer back, Billie.
Never touch a ginger’s hair. It makes them even more dangerous! Especially if that ginger is Ruth.
Her hair gives her super strength!
We must cut it off like Sampson’s hair! Quick, where’s Delilah?
New York City.
That really REALLY hurt. XP
Isn’t that reference dated?
I had to read that twice XD
Best comment EVER.
Sal is becoming even cooler over a very short period of time. How does she do it? Forever cool.
I’ll get the popcorn.
Yay Sal! 😀
Fun fact; In panel 3, Sal is resisting the urge to grab Ruth’s ass.
In panel 3, it looks like Sal is using some sort of Darth Vader force move on Ruth
No, like I said, she’s resisting the urge to grab Ruth’s ass.
There will be torn clothes, or I will be sorely disappointed. Sorely disappointed, I say.
Register a kick-starter for your campaign. Capitalism at work!
Now, am I forgetting anything here? Was there a special meeting set up between Ruth and Billie?
Also, yay Sal! The only girl who successfully avoided the first day all girl’s meeting.
After school at the jungle gym. They were gonna settle things once and for all, but Billie backed out.
Nope. But since Billie actually got Sal to sign the roomie agreement, Ruth’s ego is hurt, so she’s pissed off and looking for an excuse to bully Billie.
Yeaaaah, Ruth, I can’t make excuses for you anymore, you’re just a bullying jerk now. I am now converted to the awesomeness of Sal. I <3 her… ^^
o.o
There was not any excuse for Ruth anyway, imo.
There was an excuse for Ruth for a while. Up until right about when she goaded Billie into attacking her, and debatably including that act, she could have been honestly trying for the hardass philosophy of achieving order and peace. Everything after that put her definitively into the sadistic bully camp, though.
FUCK YEAH! Get ‘er, Sal!!
Since becoming a brony I can’t help but hear Sal in Applejack’s voice
Strangely enough, I found that the voice I’d been using for Sal even before MLP:FiM came out matched near perfectly with Applejack. O_o
Me too, and I imagine Dina sounding like Fluttershy, and Joyce sounding like Pinkie Pie
Maybe it’s me but for some reason, Billie looks cute in panel 1.
Billie looks cute a lot of the time. C:
Agreed.
There will be blood! This strip is far more entertaining then that movie good cinematography though.(digression) My money (if i actually were to bet on this) would be on Sal, but I think it’s more likely that Ruth may just back down due to Sal’s epicness(<– not actually a word)
Epicness should be a word.
The term you are looking for it “epicousity.”
Panel 3 Billie: You probably thought this was a nasty, bullying RA.
Panel 4 Sal: Nope. Chuck Testa.
You can insert this panel into today’s strip.
You’re welcome. ^_^
Ruth’s got a nice raepface going on in panel 3.
I thought that was a slasher smile.
Is there a distinction?
“I need an adult!”
“I am an adult.”
Adults nuttin!
“I need Sal!”
“I need Sal!”
Also in panel three judging by both her expression and dialogue, Billie appears to be growing a spine! Which if Sal had not appeared would have been promptly snapped.
FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!
Do I have a problem if I read this in Applejack’s voice…?
So much shipping possibilities here. So much.
anybody else hear that subtle music change? That mean s***’s ’bout to go down!
Oddly enough, I hear the music that plays in Pokémon Diamond, when you get into a random encounter, or a trainer battle
Great, now I hafta dig out my DS…
Please don’t let this be Ruth’s death, please don’t let this be Ruth’s death, please don’t let this be Ruth’s death, please don’t let this be Ruth’s death.
That can’t happen unless they take this one to the streets.
When I read that, all I could think of was Sal throwing Ruth out a window.
“Ah always preferred tha direct route.”
Billie breaks out the Spider Jerusalem quotes. “I may have to order my filthy assistant to defenestrate you. And we wouldn’t want anything to happen to your fenestrates, now would we?”
“Just how many times did [s]he fall out of that window?”
“It’s all a blur, and I lost count!”
Is it wrong that I read Sal’s dialogue with Applejack’s voice? My Little Roomies: College is Magic?!
I’ve been reading her in Applejack’s voice ever since discovering MLP.
Does this mean Walky sounds like Big Mac?
Panel 2 is the best thing ever. What a lovely little 4th wall walking moment. …Especially the shit-eating grin.
Mr. Willis, were you getting tired of people not grasping the time-line? =P
Remember, It’s still Saturday.
I’m fully aware, silly =P
Of course… That was a reminder to the people who don’t grasp the time-line. 😛
Maybe we should take turns reminding people what day it is? ^_~
Internets to whomever places the song preceding!
Chicago. I believe the tile of the song is “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?”
I really, really like that song, BTW.
Whahoo! If I could send you a vinyl, I would!
Visit your next nearest used record store and ask them if they accept internets at the till.
As long as nobody refers to Rebecca Black for this, I think we will all be okay >_>
Every fight between Ruth and Billie has been well-attended. With a new participant, the draw can only become greater.
What this conflict requires… is catering.
Galasso is the perfect avatar for that comment.
Chef Galasso, no less!
YES! YAY SAL! 🙂
cool. now for Ruth to “accidentally” “snap her own neck”.
a Dark Knight Returns reference?
Woo! I officially love Sal. …More.
Billie thought college was about learning? XD
… Billie thought college was about learning?
Not that I’m questioning the idea of college being about learning. I’m just questioning the idea that _Billie_ thought it was.
Much learning is done in college that is not done in class.
This is going to get good. Take as many strips as you need.
Also, what part of Alabama do they say “Howdy”?
Howdy Doody, Alabama.
Very small town.
Okay, I made that up.
I don’t know — but I thought Sal went to school in Tennessee?
What part of Alabama do they not say howdy? At least, all of my family that is from Alabama does. And most of the south when someone wants to get their attention in a “You’re-ass-is-grass” voice. Contempt just adds such a flavor to the southern drawl and all that, you know.
How exactly is Billie a “tubbo”? She seems a little heavier than average, but certainly not morbidly obese. The hell, Ruth?
Ruth’s a bully, so of course she’s going to try to go for what she thinks will hurt her intended victim. Love that “must… restrain… fist… of death!” moment from Sal behind her.
As Kurosaki-kun mentioned, Ruth is a bully. And she knows Billie, an ex-cheerleader, is sensitive about her appearance. She’s just being somewhat unimaginative (or lazy) and going for the easy ego-bruise.
I do not rember sal saying that? If it did happen could i get a link?
http://www.dumbingofage.com/2011/comic/book-1/06-yesterday-was-thursday/trainer/
Thanks XD
Eeee! I’d love to see Sal kick some ass!
Hmmm, this is a hard one to call. On one hand, Sal has super awesome alien powers in another universe. On the other, Ruth has overalls in same said universe. Gonna be a close fight.
Ruth, you summoned the thunder. Now prepare for the boom.
You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind.
You want to call down the thunder? well, HERE I AM!
ROCKIN’ LIKE A HURRICANE!
Boom-Boom Mountain!
What can I say, I have a twisted mind.
I think the hand pulling her hair is still necessary, but overall It is a great piece of work. Undoubtedly gravatar material.
Place your bets for the most anti-climatic-tic moment of the year.
Seriously… how the bloody hell does Ruth keep this job?
‘I’m
BatmanSal’GIRL FIGHT!
Normally I’m not much for shipping, but this makes Billie x Sal a pretty strong contender.
Thus Sal vanquished Ruth then proceeded off with the fair Billie upon her motorcycle, popping a wheelie and revving the motor before they drive off into the sunset to go live happily ever after.
THE END.
I’m trying not to get my hopes up… But I want it to happen.
I just realized I read Sal in a voice similar to Applejack from MLP:FiM.
And I want to say I love Dorothy’s expression in the last panel.
That’s not dorothy. that’s ruth. You’re getting your glasses mixed up.
Don’t you mean “your freckled asses”?
One’s a different kind of ass tough.
HEY-O
Awesome shit be going down and it isn’t Friday. IT’S A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE!!!!
….Wait…..
I love freckles, red hair, glasses and black sweaters.
I hate Ruth.
Now I’m confused.
Her knight in shining leather. D’awwww.
Amen.
Sal: “Sorry babe, *I’M* the only one who gets to dominate her.”
Kick her ass, Sal.
“Let’s get ready to RUUUMMMMBBBBLLLEEE!!!!!”
Ruth vs Sal- Fight! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAwWPadFsOA
Omfg SAL IS SO COOL!
am i the only one that thinks it looks like ruth is looking behind herself in all the panels? eyes should be moved a little
A new challenger appears!
We had a self righteous RA similar to Ruth. Well she wasn’t as nasty as Ruth. She wasn’t malicious, just a know it all.
I don’t understand how Ruth even became an RA… I mean, usually the vetting process for that position is pretty thorough.
Sal Finger (sword?). Men! Men! MEEEEEEEEEEEEENNNNN!
