But she may encounter Sal on the way out and finally get the agreement signed (or at least ask her about it, since she doesn’t necessarily have it with her).
Y’know, in her own damaged, broken way…this may have been Billie’s attempt to make a friend. “Y’know, you have the required qualities to become more like me.”
I’m surprised by the hostility. I think this was Billie honestly trying to give a genuine compliment. Kind of like when Jackie on That 70’s Show revealed that she’d “busted her ass for years to get into the group.”
Fez: That was you being nice?! Oh my god she thinks she was being nice!
Well that’s the closest Billie has come so far to complimenting anyone. Perhaps in this reality Amber was a cheerleader until one fateful day when she was forced into the shadows by nefarious persons. Really dying to know her origin story now.
Having come down with an unknown ailment, as a last resort of team of Amazi-girl clones were shrunk down so they could board a similarly shrunken spider-car and fix the problem manually. An Amazing Voyage indeed.
Oh Billie, your entire personality and self esteem rests on what others think of you- on being popular- and that is why you will never know the sweet, simple joy of costumed vigilante.
Could be done. Just don’t tell her it’s CALLED D&D.
…Given that she’s a Twilight fan, maybe start with some of the “World of Darkness” games instead.
Or maybe Blue Rose. Though that might be too liberal to her tastes.
Well, part of the thing there is that Twilight was actually written by a devout Christian/Catholic, and used the “being bitten” as a metaphor for sex. Or that is what I picked up from the media. It would be harder to argue devout Christian beliefs in oher RPG systems.
Then again, original WoD did claim that Lillith and Cain were the first vampires, based on Christian mythos, so…
I should stop claiming things I only know a fraction about.
you know i have been reading your comments for about a month now, and they really make the comic more rich and interesting, especially in your faaaaacccceeee….
I can honestly see Billie is at least trying to be nice. However, she seems to be fighting with herself about it. Her normal societal views would tell her that someone like Amazi-Girl is below her, and yet Amazi-Girl appears to be more active than Billie is, just saved her butt, and seems to enjoy it. It’s confusing her. Her lack of knowledge on nerdy stuff clearly shows here, but I do believe she’s TRYING to be nice. She just doesn’t know how.
And panel 5 is Amazi-Girl crushing her ego: “That thing about yourself that you value so much? I’m good enough to be it but think it’s worthless. Which means you are too.” You can see it in Billie’s expression/reaction.
I’m not sure she’s being nice so much as trying to figure out what Amazi-Girl’s deal is.
I mean, she doesn’t say thanks, or anything that can actually be conveyed as appreciative. She just makes a dismissive remark about being a hero in comparison of being cheerleader. Amazi-Girl shut her down by turning her statement around.
Because she doesn’t see it as being a “hero”, she just sees it an extension of “geek stuff”. Also, this is *Billie*. She doesn’t do thanking but she vaguely gave a compliment. That’s as nice as it gets.
Amazi-Girl is a dark mysterious super-hero. She’s not supposed to be nice and let people get close to her. She has to be harsh to keep those she save at length so as to protect them from her enemies like Doctor Cyborg. 😛
Batman does the same thing. Only difference is, Bats has got Alfred inviting all the blond girls down to the cave.
I always found D20 system horribly limiting.
“you want to play outside of a box? I guess we can give you a bigger box! but not by much”
Compared to point buy systems like GURPS d20 as versatile as railroad’s offroad capabilities.
I guess it both depends on what you compare it to, and what you are looking for.
I find systems like GURPS to be too open to interpretation. The same action works differently under different game masters. Since I write an RPG campaign, it is important that the players get the same experience no matter who is running the event.
On the other hand, compared to AD&D 2.5 or D&D 4, D20 appears unlimited in its customizability. In D&D 4, if you accidentally make a strong wizard, or a dextrous paladin, or a wize rogue, you quickly run out of available feats to choose from. The only way to not be penalized down the road is to limit yourself to 3 to 5 different ways to build your character class, which means there are effectively about 40 different total character types. (I’ve actually had people argue that 40 is too much variety.) By contrast, I’ve yet to have or even hear of a character concept in a D20 game that the player had to say, “close enough.”
That would be the best twist. Turns out Billie was actually a completely unremarkable nerd in high school and the whole cheerleader schtick is just an attempt to reinvent herself in College.
What’s with Billie’s face in Panel 2? She looks around ninety, not nineteen, or however young these new-fangled college kids are. *waves walking stick*
Huh. I really, really like this Amazi-girl character, whoever she is. I guess I assumed that this universe’s Joe wasn’t old enough to have built Ultracar yet, I guess I was wrong.
Amazi-girl could have a completely different origin story in this universe, too. Perhaps consoled by comic books, Amazi-girl used her superhero persona as an escape from her geeky life and becomes the brave hero she wants to be.
Why do cheerleaders always think everyone else wants to be a cheerleader?
The only ones I know of did so under pressure from their overbearing parents, burned their uniforms as soon as they graduated and slipped the yearbook committee 50 bucks to “forget” to list their name as club members, “lose” any photos, etc.
I think Billie’s looking for a friend. Or a first lesbian experience.
Definitely the latter.
And the former.
With her penis.
Yeah, the blush says “both”. 🙂
There’s a difference? My dvd’s have lied to me!
There doesn’t have to be.
no she couldn’t
But that would’ve been, like, SO cheerleader-ish, Billie. Like totally. Don’cha know anything? Pshaw.
She couldn’t because some things are worse than death.
Well, is it too much to say that I want to know who Doctor Cyborg is now?
Wonder Woman villain.
No, wait. That’s Doctor Cyber.
Is that a villain who enjoys online intimacy?
Sounds familiar, I remember watching Dungeons and Dragons a long time ago, well the cartoon version of it anyways. Not sure though if he was in that.
Dr. Cyborg that is.
You’re probably thinking of Venger.
http://wolfman7367.wordpress.com/2009/09/16/force-of-evil/ (Fun fact: voiced by Peter Cullen!)
This now needs to be a mini saga.
Dr. Cyborg’s Sing-Along Blog?
Baaaah~. That would make me immeasurable happy.
I think it’s probably this guy.
http://www.bookadda.com/product/doctor-cyborg-allan-gross/p-9781582403694-1582403694
This also came up. http://beemp3.com/download.php?file=206762&song=Doctor+Cyborg
Awww billie looks so pathetic in the last panel
Doctor Cyborg is clearly Mike.
I don’t see Mike having death pits somehow. Those would require maintenance.
What happens if you neglect the maintenance on your Death Pit anyway? Does it become more, or less, deathy?
The robots lose -17 speed, but in turn gain 50% chance inflict tetanus status!
Mike’s death pits are your mom’s vagina.
Maybe Dr Cyborg just needs to switch deodorants.
*chuckle chuckle*
Just shut up, Billie.
I don’t believe it…
After all she just did for you, Billie…however gruffly…
What did she do, exactly? She take away her chance to punch Ruth. I don’t see why that’s such a “save”.
She stopped her from A. Getting the shit kicked out of her and B. Getting expelled from the college. Pretty important stuff if you ask me.
She’s also getting her ass to class on time too
I think that boat might’ve sailed long ago. My bet is she’ll get to the lecture hall just in time for class to end.
Wait wait wait. D&D isn’t about chicks dressing up in full body costumes? I think I need to have a talk with my DM…
Yes, yes it is. No need to even ask.
…You *are* a hot chick, right?
once again, the gravitar makes the comment so much more enjoyable. (especially Joe’s expression in this one)
This strip randomly gave me a boner.
that one is gravitar gold
If it happens every time you see Billie, its no longer random.
I blame Canada.
Just because it isn’t doesn’t make it less of a fun opportunity.
…Wow, Billie. Just…wow.
I suddenly kind of want to watch Billie suffer in those death pits.
Soooooo does Billie qualify as a Tsundere? Or just a jerk?
Yes.
Is the glass half-full, or half-empty?
The glass is always full, it just depends on what is inside it.
Unless it’s in Space.
Then it’s full of nothing.
Funny, I see her as being rather nice – or at least, neutral. (I think she’s too befuddled and curious to be mean, even if she wanted to.)
Also, vocalized ampersands! 🙂
Surprisingly, I find this a very accurate analogy.
Say, that poll on the side is who would win, not who we’d want to win, right? ‘Cause if not I voted wrong.
Well that’s the closest Billie has come so far to complimenting anyone. Perhaps in this reality Amber was a cheerleader until one fateful day when she was forced into the shadows by nefarious persons. Really dying to know her origin story now.
All I want to know is if we’re getting an epic Ruth/Amazi-girl staredown after all this. Surely she can’t let the evil-doer go unpunished?!
Why would Amazi-Girl be an evil-doer? Oh, right, “Don’t run in the hallway.”
Billie’s concept of Being Nice involves, “Your interests are different than mine, so why don’t you ditch them? That stuff’s for losers.”
Eh, I’ve seen some of us geeks do the same thing to athletic folk before, so it happens.
Ok, that tears it. Next time I run a D&D campaign, Amazi-Girl is going in as an NPC.
Next time I run a D&D campaign, Amazi-Girl is going to be in as all the NPCs.
I in turn will pitch a film.
You have my pity and my annoyance.
To make this comic even better I was working on some character work for a D&D game we are starting up this week when I checked this.
You gotta love shallow, ignorant people like Billie. Seriously, I still know a few people who think D&D is some kind of devil-worshiping cult.
Actually, that is a horrible idea: Joyce introduced to the world of D&D.
Could be done. Just don’t tell her it’s CALLED D&D.
…Given that she’s a Twilight fan, maybe start with some of the “World of Darkness” games instead.
Or maybe Blue Rose. Though that might be too liberal to her tastes.
Gurps or Fudge might be good ones to, especially since they don’t have darkness or other such terms in their titles.
She’s Mormon, not Catholic, but yeah.
You’d think a cheerleader would admire a costume built for active pursuits. In fact, I think the first panel is about that.
you know i have been reading your comments for about a month now, and they really make the comic more rich and interesting, especially in your faaaaacccceeee….
I could not help but laugh at panel three.

Because she doesn’t see it as being a “hero”, she just sees it an extension of “geek stuff”. Also, this is *Billie*. She doesn’t do thanking but she vaguely gave a compliment. That’s as nice as it gets.
Billie’s face in the second panel cracks me up.
Gotta hand it to Billie, at least she’s making half an attempt at being nice.
Amazi-girl is a lot more badass in this universe. Thats awesome.
Or a high class porn star 😀
And this post makes number 69
Could be a form of D&D…
I like Billie just a little less now, even though it seems she’s trying to friendly. Though I think Amber was a little harsh as well.
Who is this Amber of which you speak? I see only Amazi-Girl
Be fair.
And then they mysteriously disappear by the next episode/movie/chapter.
I think you mean it could be a form of role-playing, and I’m not talking about LARPing, either.
I meant D&D, though you do have a point. The fun thing about the d20 system is that it is incredibly versatile.
I always found D20 system horribly limiting.
“you want to play outside of a box? I guess we can give you a bigger box! but not by much”
Compared to point buy systems like GURPS d20 as versatile as railroad’s offroad capabilities.

Theno
Who is Billie trying to fool? She wears glasses, so she’s no cheerleader. She should embrace her inner nerd too. 😉
I knew plenty of cheer leaders who wore glasses. They wore contacts when practicing and at games.
Lies. If a cheerleader has contacts to begin with, why would she bother with glasses the rest of the time? 😉
That would be the best twist. Turns out Billie was actually a completely unremarkable nerd in high school and the whole cheerleader schtick is just an attempt to reinvent herself in College.
Walky knew her in high school, so he probably would have pointed out by now if she was lying.
Why would he care to point it out? Maybe he agreed with her to keep it secret.
What’s with Billie’s face in Panel 2? She looks around ninety, not nineteen, or however young these new-fangled college kids are. *waves walking stick*
She’s making a disgusted face.
You KNOW Willis will have to have Doctor Cyborg show up eventually.
I wonder…is Ruth gonna go after them?
(Why do I always get this avatar? >> I think it has a crush on me)
man, that’s one slow closing elevator door…
She could’ve. But that was better.
The people who run that place is up to there tits in weirdos and dumbasses
