I’m pretty sure that’s the second, third, or fourth level of ambidexterity. The first level is being able to do a task equally well with both hands. The second level is being able to do a task with both hands simultaneously. The third level is being able to do two tasks in concert with one another to accomplish a single goal. The fourth level is to do two unrelated tasks simultaneously.
@rose: i imagine it’d be better to just use their bathroom but i dun rly think they’d include a scene of that in the slipshine lol but i imagine sal’s had sex enough to know
As someone who can’t afford the Slipshine, I am super jealous. I wish I could pay for it; I want to see Sal×Danny more than anything, also the Dina×Becky one.
Eh, it’s not exactly polite society behaviour but couples having sex in the shower stalls is not exactly earth shattering. I don’t think it would stop Sal if she wanted to.
It’s a college dorm. If you’ve never had a strange woman wearing only a towel walk in while you had your dick out at a urinal (or vice versa, I guess, if you’re that way plumbed), can you really say you’ve been to college?
Looking forward to seeing the Summoning Salt video where Amber gets shown as someone who broke the record before somehow somebody else breaks it againon the very same day
Of course, a few deep bore holes in the right super volcanos with the right application of high yield thermonuclear weapons, and, yeah the world would DEFINITELY burn…
Years ago, I managed to get the PC version of Tetris into a loop where it was feeding me the same repeated (and sustainable!) sequence of blocks over and over again. I’d gotten out of my last class about 2, went, “I’ll just play a quick game of Tetris…”
I missed dinner because I was still playing that game of Tetris. I finally mis-timed a drop, and the wheels pretty much instantly came off everything and it was over half a second later. But I had by that point been playing the same game of Tetris for more than five hours.
I’m not sure if that repeating loop is what it always does if you play the game long enough, or if it was a quirk of the RNG on the machine I was playing on or what. I’d never seen it do that before. I haven’t seen it since, but that may just be because I stopped playing Tetris after that. I figure I don’t need to play it anymore. I won.
Maybe its me, and god knows I dont handle social interactions well. But that doesnt seem like something danny should need to apologize for. In fact I feel like weve had more conversations about her hand this week than the entire series
Idk about Danny, but I apologize for anything and everything that’s inconveniencing other people, whether it’s my fault or not. People pleasers and/or people who grew up in shitty households often do. So I don’t think she’s expecting him to apologize for it, just making a really deadpan joke that he ended up apologizing for regardless? (I’m also not good at social interactions, though)
My daughter is a people pleaser who seems to say sorry for being sorry for saying sorry a lot. I usually hug her and say something along the lines of “you didn’t do anything, you have nothing to be sorry for, but I appreciate you feel bad anyway because you’d like the world to be perfect and lovely for everyone” so she doesn’t do that with me at least…. But any other suggestions? Kiddo is 9 and sometimes she *struggles* because she has a tendency to genuinely think if she can just be good enough, she can make the entire world be problem-free, so she is literally apologising for something she feels responsible for, but which is completely out of her sphere of control… Then apologising for apologising when her friends and extended family tell her off for it…
One of the hardest lessons I had to learn was that you have to live your own life and let other people make their own mistakes, but at least I was into my teens when I was seriously tying myself into pretzels trying to shoulder everyone else’s emotional baggage… And started off being aware that it’s OK if not everyone likes you and there are some people whose opinions of you are worth less than the carbon dioxide they expell sharing them. She genuinely likes everyone, bless her precious, tender heart
Sorry has more than one meaning. I say sorry all the time, but it doesn’t mean I’m accepting responsibility or fault. ‘Sorry for your loss’ doesn’t mean I murdered your grandda but that im giving condolences and I feel for you having to go through something hard. Telling people ‘I’m sorry I can’t make your party’ due to other events/prior obligations/poor health doesn’t mean I feel bad for having those events… just that I didn’t like that I contributed to their disappointment.
I always feel weird with that formulation, because it sounds like “well now I wish I didn’t hear that, why did you say it”
Even though I’m aware how people mean it normally.
Or the solution, when you’re apologizing for something, say what you’re apologizing for. Acknowledge what you’re sorry for doing, like you’re actually contrite.
Just to avoid potential ambiguity, I never say “I’m sorry” if I’m not actually sorry. Somebody might think I’m apologising when I’m not, and it would be dishonest to let them.
As a Canuck, I’m sorry but I must point out that, while “sorry” can be an apology, it isn’t always. “Sorry” can be to get attention, demonstrate non-comprehension, express empathy/sympathy, regret, and a myriad of other behavioural/emotional blends.
Honestly I cannot think of anything else that would be appropriate in this situation. It’s too serious for “oh that sucks.” Trying to cheer her up with “it’s not that bad,” would be incredibly heartless.
well, she did bring it up and self deprecating, but i think if she was really upset she would’ve just shut off the laptop/change vids
or like make danny pick up some hand cream from amber , if she’s still doing that, since even normal hand cream/other skincare stuff could get pricey/tedious to deal with over time
I suspect the limited use of her hand came up during the Slip shine interlude. It seems like the sort of character based interaction that would get tossed in.
I had the same thought. But sometimes I do this kind of ironically, to mean “I wasn’t involved in that, so why are you bringing it up now?”
Or it could be an apology for reminding her, however inadvertently, of a painful episode of which she has far too frequent reminders just from living.
Lately I’ve been trying to use “I’m sorry” less often and more precisely, and you might hear me say “I apologize, and I’m sorry.” The apology is about your feelings and the sorrow is about mine.
Sometimes sorry doesn’t mean ‘this is my fault and I apologise’, sometimes it means ‘yeah, that sounds hard, wish you didn’t have to deal with that as an issue’.
It never occurred to me that Sal might not have full use of her scarred hand. As someone who loves to play videogames, and write, the idea of losing control of part of my hand is terrifying.
She talked once about having trouble with the guitar so she now played bass, I think? Because, motor control. But yeah that was a gruesome injury, glad she can still move at all
Thank you for doing so. I’ve always wanted to make games, and customizable input is one of my self-requirements. In the slim chance I will be able to make/help with a game customizable input matters to me; I have issues with motion controls due to my hands shaking at all times. So needing a custom layout of controls is something I can empathize with.
Surprisingly, my intermittent tremors went away some time after I stopped taking Lithium. I had expected them never to go. I still do need to heavily customise my controls to balance out the duties of each hand though, just because in my 40s, I’m far slower than I was in my 20s. My standard MMO setup is left-hand mouse for turning, keyboard for movement keys, and all keybinds balanced between mouse binds and keyboard, often in an alternating order for burst phases. At least for now, improved coordination makes up for the loss of speed.
I knew it was bad, but until a few strips ago I hadn’t realized the scar was on both sides of her hand. I hadn’t realized that Amber had stabbed all the way through
They added a title attribute to that text so if you hover over it, it shows additional text. It’s a global HTML attribute but I think the comments section only allows it for and tags.
To save others searching: there doesn’t seem to be a strip in the archives with that name.
There also doesn’t seem to be a way to search the archives by strip name, other than using ctrl+F on the source of each archive calendar page; if I’m wrong, someone please tell me what I should’ve been doing?
Speedrunning cheater drama s is what Dorothy will do when she composes a formal flow chart for how to scratch “homewreck” off her self-destruction bucket list.
To be fair, Sal, it takes a special kind of person to grind a level.over and over again for better and better times. So yes, for most people, this ain’t going to be fun
I can grind for a specific reward, like Radiant difficulty markers or Chains on Pantheons in Hollow Knight but better times/higher scores never appealed to me.
Reminds me of an article by a guy who had actual Yakuza give their take on the Yakuza video games. He mentioned that not all of them could actually play the game themselves since some of them were lacking all 10 fingers.

“Eh, the IMPORTANT things can be done one-handed”
The real trick is to do them one-handedly with both hands at the same time.
No, I have no idea what I’m talking about either.
My ADHD squirrel brain is nudging me to practice that… fml…
The fifth level? Being able to do three unrelated tasks using both of yours AND one of someone else’s hands..!

You know, speaking as someone who read the Slipshine, Sal should probably slip into the shower with Danny.
Or at least go have a pee.
Urinary tract health, yo!
I don’t know, I feel like joining him in the relatively open men’s shower room might not be the best solution.
The men’s shower room has stalls, just like the girls’ one. We saw them when Danny was having gay panic over Ethan.
Yeah, but the room is still open, hence Danny being able to run into Ethan there.
Yes? That’s how like… all shower rooms work? There’s a communal area before the stalls?
Which is why it would be a bad idea for Sal to go into the one for the men? How is this difficult?
Eh, it’s not exactly polite society behaviour but couples having sex in the shower stalls is not exactly earth shattering. I don’t think it would stop Sal if she wanted to.
You’re not helping your case. I think that would be more likely to stop Sal than if having sex in the shower stalls WAS earth-shattering.
It’s a college dorm. If you’ve never had a strange woman wearing only a towel walk in while you had your dick out at a urinal (or vice versa, I guess, if you’re that way plumbed), can you really say you’ve been to college?
No, but Danny would definitely get the props for doing that!
… and Joe. With Danny and Joe. HTH!
As someone else who read the Slip shine, her panties are the wrong color
Looking forward to seeing the Summoning Salt video where Amber gets shown as someone who broke the record before somehow somebody else breaks it again on the very same day
I mean Sal really got into Mario Kart.
I feel like it’d only a matter of time before she gets hooked on this.
After that, there’s only one place to go: competitive Tetris
…some men just wanna watch the world burn
I ain’t got enough.matches for that…
Of course, a few deep bore holes in the right super volcanos with the right application of high yield thermonuclear weapons, and, yeah the world would DEFINITELY burn…
Years ago, I managed to get the PC version of Tetris into a loop where it was feeding me the same repeated (and sustainable!) sequence of blocks over and over again. I’d gotten out of my last class about 2, went, “I’ll just play a quick game of Tetris…”

An average game of Mario Kart is a lot more forgiving than an unassisted frame-perfect speedrun.
Maybe its me, and god knows I dont handle social interactions well. But that doesnt seem like something danny should need to apologize for. In fact I feel like weve had more conversations about her hand this week than the entire series

Hey, sometimes it’s just being Canadian.
What happens if you’re a Canadian people pleaser?
Multiplication, I think.
I can verify this statement as a Canadian people pleaser
My daughter is a people pleaser who seems to say sorry for being sorry for saying sorry a lot. I usually hug her and say something along the lines of “you didn’t do anything, you have nothing to be sorry for, but I appreciate you feel bad anyway because you’d like the world to be perfect and lovely for everyone” so she doesn’t do that with me at least…. Her name is Dorothy, right?
I think that’s just automatic admission into the nearest BDSM community.
Sometimes the phrase “I’m sorry” means “I apologize”. Sometimes it just means “yeah, that sucks”.
Yeah, general solution to that misunderstanding is adding “to hear that” at the end of it. Doesn’t really fit in this situation, but it usually does.
“I know what I did” (from https://xkcd.com/945) is a pretty good way to make things worse instead.
I always feel weird with that formulation, because it sounds like “well now I wish I didn’t hear that, why did you say it”
Even though I’m aware how people mean it normally.
T’pau said it best: “I grieve with thee.” What a powerful line.
Or “about that”. I hear “sorry about that” as often as I hear “sorry to hear that.”
Or the solution, when you’re apologizing for something, say what you’re apologizing for. Acknowledge what you’re sorry for doing, like you’re actually contrite.
+1
My friends are trying to break me out of it but it’s frustrating when this is what I mean half of the time.
Just to avoid potential ambiguity, I never say “I’m sorry” if I’m not actually sorry. Somebody might think I’m apologising when I’m not, and it would be dishonest to let them.
Much more eloquent than mine
As a Canuck, I’m sorry but I must point out that, while “sorry” can be an apology, it isn’t always. “Sorry” can be to get attention, demonstrate non-comprehension, express empathy/sympathy, regret, and a myriad of other behavioural/emotional blends.

I think the apology was for having Amber’s stream on his computer where it could be a reminder about Amber stabbing her hand.
Sometimes sorry doesn’t mean ‘this is my fault and I apologise’, sometimes it means ‘yeah, that sounds hard, wish you didn’t have to deal with that as an issue’.
This is what we call a sympathy sorry – i.e. ‘I’m sorry that that happened to you, sounds like it sucks’ vs a ‘sorry my bad’.
Growing up in Canada, you learn the difference.
It never occurred to me that Sal might not have full use of her scarred hand. As someone who loves to play videogames, and write, the idea of losing control of part of my hand is terrifying.
I’m glad she can at least play Mario Kart.
Considering the extent of her injury I’m amazed she has any motor function in that hand at all.
same. That scar crosses bones. There’s nerves that go through there. Even if the muscles healed all the way back.
She talked once about having trouble with the guitar so she now played bass, I think? Because, motor control. But yeah that was a gruesome injury, glad she can still move at all
She originally played bass and the injury kept her from playing.
See, this is why modern games allow for customizable input mapping and likewise — accessibility.
In fact it’s on the list of things to do in the near future for many games I’m hired to code.
Thank you for doing so. I’ve always wanted to make games, and customizable input is one of my self-requirements. In the slim chance I will be able to make/help with a game customizable input matters to me; I have issues with motion controls due to my hands shaking at all times. Yeah, the book PDF mentioned Amber stabbed Sal through the hand but I don’t think we’d ever seen her scarred up palm.
Joe and Danny shower together confirmed. Its why they’re known as having incredibly clean backs.
What is that underlining and what does it mean?
If you hover your mouse on it, it’ll reveal a floating text.
They added a title attribute to that text so if you hover over it, it shows additional text. It’s a global HTML attribute but I think the comments section only allows it for
and
tags.
Dagnabbit: The “abbr” and “acronym” tags.
I thought using the code tags would make it show the actual HTML tags.
Humph, now I’m wondering whether CDATA works here. <![CDATA[]]> should show a broketed “element” element.
Nope.
I’m on a mobile device; what does it say?
“dumbingofage.com/irishspring”
To save others searching: there doesn’t seem to be a strip in the archives with that name.
There also doesn’t seem to be a way to search the archives by strip name, other than using ctrl+F on the source of each archive calendar page; if I’m wrong, someone please tell me what I should’ve been doing?
I don’t know a way to search, but if it was a real strip name, it should resolve.
For example: http://www.dumbingofage.com/ambersstream
irishspring doesn’t.
Thank you. I should’ve tried that.
It’s a fake link.
There’s a communal shower, everyone showers together in separate booths.
Except Joe and Danny, they use the same booth so they can wash each other’s backs.
slipshine or it didn’t happen.
They are exploring each other’s soapy bodies in a completely platonic non-sexual way.
Fun? Who said anything about “Fun”? This is a compulsion
She still plays, just not to break records. Or maybe it’s a time constraint?
It feels like Sal has finally opened up about her hand not so long ago… And now she’s doing all the complaining about it she rightfully deserves.
It makes sense but also completely nonsensical that Amber’s a streamer…
or is she on ScroobToobI bet this won’t be Danny’s last shower of the day
Probably just because of the requirement to legalize the record
Aww, look at Sal getting all cozy and not wanting to leave Danny’s room.
The reluctance to put on pants and go elsewhere is real.
“ah no tools, eh? I guess that explains why you’re not helping her.”
That doesn’t sound like Sal, but I’d expect that comment to come out of Joe’s mouth.
Or Malaya’s.
…so there were sequels after all
Love that Sal’s comfy enough to chill in her underwear.
Is Sal being territorial?
“Yeah, it took me a bit of searchin’ to find it. Damn algorithm kept suggesting a MommyMilkers420.”
“Ever since I clicked that one dang time on that BurgerOni chick, the dang algorithm’s has been givin’ me this stuff.”
I think Danny’s a little too vanilla to be getting a fetish V-tuber recommended to him.
Danny may be least vanilla of our cast, at least sexually.
A grappling hook is still miles away from a 4-titted anthropomorphic cow woman who reads toilet TF fanfics on-stream.
Poor Sal got cock-blocked on gettin’ cuddles.
Sal’s getting cuddlefuddled.
Maybe leave the jacket behind dan
No, it’s on him
Commas are important people!
He’s going to wear the (presumably) leather jacket into a shower room? Interesting choice.
“ah but what about speedrun cheater drama streams?”
“Eh”
There are a few ways to interpret that string of words, and none of them seem like valuable ways for a human to spend their time.
Speedrunning cheater drama s is what Dorothy will do when she composes a formal flow chart for how to scratch “homewreck” off her self-destruction bucket list.
I’m a lifelong diehard gamer and even I think that attempting to break NTA speedrun records sounds like more pain than fun.
Sal, but the stream can get interesting: maybe it can happen a sudden Mike-situation.
Grinding video games is a great way to *lose* full motor control in your hands, temporarily.
Reminds me of an article by a guy who had actual Yakuza give their take on the Yakuza video games. He mentioned that not all of them could actually play the game themselves since some of them were lacking all 10 fingers.
Apparently, Yukako Fukushima makes replacement pinkies for ex-Yakuza people: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/apr/18/woman-makes-fake-fingers-yakuza-japan-reformed-gangsters
She’s pretty strict about the “ex-” part, though, so that mightn’t help some of those from the article.
Yeah, that’s…that’s rough.
ngl, the zoom in of the batman poster with that particular cropping made me think it was captain falcon
