Remember, in the event the ship sinks, please allow women and children to get to the lifeboats first — so they can see better when the lifeboats fill with rich men.
I think I can see where this is going… Billie will kiss Ruth in gratitude and then rush into the elevator. Everyone who witnessed it will lapse into awkward silence and not criticize Billie for taking Dina’s spot (and will also understand why Ruth yanked Dina out). Yup, that seems logical.
Yeah, it took me a second to figure out that’s where the third hand came from.
And then I was glad I had swallowed my drink already. For once, thank goodness for being slow on the uptake.
That’s a math problem. If Billie has a Volume of X and Dina has a Volume of Y and the space in the elevator is Z, and Dina is removed, how would you find out if Billie can fit in Dina’s place?
If you’re going to use algebra to analyze a sum of live human bodies, you must consider the variable destabilizing effect of psychology.
I suspect that the Volume of X will become available out of defearance (sic) to Ruth’s apparent desire for such Volume to be available, even if it involves another girl deciding that it’s preferable to dive out of the elevator and roll to a running start toward the nearest staircase as opposed to remaining within arm’s reach of Ruth.
Is there nothing more honorable than having our clothes transform into skirts thanks to lots of twirling and glitter and we attack with dramatic names attached to elemental weaponry?
Perhaps Mercury is the best “Sailor Scout”, but people who know that they’re Sailor Senshi know that Jupiter is best. They also know that Jupiter/Venus is a far superior slash pairing to Jupiter/Mercury.
Though Dina’s probably more of a Power Rangers gal, I’d imagine.
She would probably be a big fan of the concept and sit down to watch Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger in Japanese…and then would lose interest as soon as she realized that the show is COMPLETELY
paleontologically INACCURATE I mean mammoths aren’t dinosaurs AT ALL, and what is up with the whole dinosaur-evolved-humans thing, I mean COME ON.
She would rant on that for hours. And everyone would stare in shock because of how much she’s talking.
Everyone is talking about some east Asian middle-schooler in a sailor fuku
Yet here I sit and the first thing that popped into my minds eye was a small guy with an awesome mustache in spandex getting ready to do some melodies.
Maybe Ruth dropped it in her rush to stop the elevator? Anyway, looking at the bottle, she clearly has no reason to hide it. Beer doesn’t tend to come in Coke-bottle shaped bottles.
True. And It did occur to me, just as I pressed the “Post Comment” button, that Ruth may have made a “homebrew” of her own before walking out into the hallway. However, She still wouldn’t need to hide the bottle, since such a drink would not be detectable by looking at it.
Not necessarily nice; I think it’s more to help buy Billie’s silence. Of course, I think they bonded a little the night before, and maybe Ruth is trying to be helpful (in her own way).
Lookout! It’s Ruth! Able to bend elevator doors to unnatural curves to yank poor college students out of the elevator to make room for another! One would argue that Dina is smaller than Billie, and Ruth will give a level look that makes the outer edge of students become ONE with the elevator itself!
What you don’t realize yet is that Ruth pulled out the smallest person so that Billie will try to enter the elevator, realize that she doesn’t fit, and then realize that Ruth pulled a Mike and accomplished an elaborate fat joke.
Yeah, I was just thinking about the same thing. In the majority of situations taking the stairway is quicker in a building like that too, especially if you’re only going down a few floors and it’s a busy time. Even if the stairs themselves are busy you can push through, and gravity is on your side. Parkour it and jump down each half-flight.
Waiting for people to get in, waiting for the doors to close, it gradually picking up speed, maybe stopping on the way where someone on another floor has pushed the button, it gradually coming to a halt at the bottom, waiting for the doors to open, waiting for everyone to pour out, then finding yourself in a slow moving human mass when you want to go quickly…
Elevators are for those with limited mobility, those who want to go upwards quickly without getting out of breath, and for those transporting heavy loads down and moreover upwards. Rarely for those in a hurry to reach ground level.
(and what if there was a fire?)
This, I would predict, is why Sal goes in and out through the window. FARRRRR faster.
Apparently she has never been on a dorm elevator. You WILL stop on every floor down so that the people waiting there because stairs are hard can look blankly at you until the door closes. Class will be over before she makes it.
My thoughts exactly (also pointed out by someone else in the last strip); with a line like that, one could flow down the stairs and be at the elevator doors before the elevator got there (and not even be tired, since downwards), whether four floors or eight floors (though maybe not twenty floors, but I strongly doubt a standard university dormitory is that tall).
(Also, while commenting, Ruth is being horrible to Dina. *sadness*)
Most of them were. However, some of the posts have covered the awkward “I like you, but don’t know how to express it without pulling your hair and saying you smell funny” way Ruth seems to be acting the last few strips.
Whether the crush is romantic or platonic, it was obvious that Ruth and Billie did some kind of bonding the night before, and it’s been pretty obvious all along that Ruth is somewhat emotionally stunted.
So, her current behavior is most likely because she is unable or unwilling to admit she likes Billie. I say “most likely,” because there’s still a good chance she’s genuinely afraid Billie will narc on her and get her kicked out.
I love how helpful Dina’s being in the last panel.
I like to imagine that she’s thinking something along the lines of: “Welp, no use fighting the Lady of the Blood-red Hair, go on ahead, She-Whose-Popularity-Is-Slightly-More-Extinct-Than-The-Torosaurus.”
I thought Ruth was looking relaxed yesterday, not at all her usual ‘Mike” exression. So, first she trips Billy up, than she holds the elevator for her. Yeah I have to agree with John, Ruth is about 3rd grade level of romancing the object of your affection.
I love that it’s Dina she hauled out, Dina just points Billy in, and hangs there.
I know a retired English teacher who thinks “welps” are the raised marks you get on your skin when something strikes you. As in: “That branch smacked me across the face, so now I have a welp on my forehead.”
That, my friend, is the awesome, utter power in the engine of the S.S. RuthxBillie. It makes the NaruSasu look like a tiny skipper by comparison. Tremble in awe at the warship that this once-small ship has become.
Seriously, by this point, the S.S. RuthxBillie has enough manpower to single-handedly overtake a medium-sized nation. It’s a scientific fact. Look it up.
Ruth is just a top looking for bottom to train as her own. She’s picked Billy. Now is Billy going to end up getting shit from both ends, from her floormates for being Ruth’s pet, and from Ruth for being Ruth’s pet? Seems like a no-win situation.
I’m confused by the camera angle… it looks like at the beginning, Ruth’s arm is to the left of Billie’s face. Then, suddenly Billie’s on the left side and Ruth has two hands in the elevator, right on the door and left on Dina… Is there some sort of hidden scene where Billie ducks down under the arm and scoots back about 5 feet? And when does Ruth get her second hand on the door… and why doesn’t the door automatically retract back to the side? I’m so confused.
Ruth man-handling Dina? She has now graduated to Satan!
If this happened in real life, we would have found out if Dina wears a bra or not.
Dina’s Bra is naturally, Bone shaped.
Would Dina voluntarily go into the devolution chamber from the Super Mario Bros. Movie to become a real dinosaur?
Wouldn’t work, different lineage than mammals. Best she could hope for would be a theropsid (or mammal-like-reptile).
You’ve just made me realize that that movie could’ve had Donkey Kong in it…
That was basically the same thought I had when I saw this comic.
Awwww she does care!
(Buying my tickets for the SS RuthxBillie. Hope the rates are still reasonable)
We still have a few bunks left in steerage.
And if the ship sinks, the exits out of Steerage will be LOCKED.
(Hooray for caste systems! )
Or Ruth is trying to make Billie feel bad. I doubt it will work though.
should we start the countdown to hatefuck now?
Your mistake is in believing it has not already begun.
Oh, so it’s a hatemindfuck? Kinky.
I have a new favorite word! Thanks! ^_^
I love that Dina always stares blankly. It makes her like…one step about innatimate object so I can’t even really…feel bad for her.
Yotomoe, have you been drinking? Do you mean “above inanimate object”?
I drink a lot. Cuz if I didn’t I would die of dehydration.
Good. I was worried about you there for a little bit. Glad you’re keeping hydrated
You just joined my awesome list.
Dina is the one pointing at the elevator for her. XD
Yeah, it took me a second to figure out that’s where the third hand came from.
And then I was glad I had swallowed my drink already. For once, thank goodness for being slow on the uptake.
I think she’s going for a grope. Ruth x Dina OTP
Ruth/Dina/Billie OT3?
…No, probably not.
Hmmm… I could ship that. xD
Not sure if that will help as Billie is about two Dinas in size.
That’s a math problem. If Billie has a Volume of X and Dina has a Volume of Y and the space in the elevator is Z, and Dina is removed, how would you find out if Billie can fit in Dina’s place?
Yes.
FINISH HER!
Unhand Dina you ruffian! Or let this come to fisticuffs!
Let’s fight like gentlemen.
Be it then! Queen of Mercury rules.
Yes, I agree Mercury is the most awesome of the Sailor Scouts and should be considered our queen although Jupiter is a close…
….wait. You meant what now??
It is duel of honor, my good sir.
Is there nothing more honorable than having our clothes transform into skirts thanks to lots of twirling and glitter and we attack with dramatic names attached to elemental weaponry?
Batman doesn’t think so: http://themarysue.tumblr.com/post/37794803520/comicsfacts-that-or-he-watched-the-anime-or-he
Ah, what brings Earth’s greatest champion to this duel of honor?
Perhaps Mercury is the best “Sailor Scout”, but people who know that they’re Sailor Senshi know that Jupiter is best. They also know that Jupiter/Venus is a far superior slash pairing to Jupiter/Mercury.
Though Dina’s probably more of a Power Rangers gal, I’d imagine.
Lets face it, Sailor Mercury is a Launcher Of A Thousand Ships.
Well, she could be a fan of Abaranger.
True.
She would collect all the toys.
Everyone is talking about some east Asian middle-schooler in a sailor fuku
Yet here I sit and the first thing that popped into my minds eye was a small guy with an awesome mustache in spandex getting ready to do some melodies.
Is Dina pointing to show that she is okay with this or to signify that Ruth’s bottle from panel 1 must have somehow disappeared into her shirt?
Maybe Ruth dropped it in her rush to stop the elevator? Anyway, looking at the bottle, she clearly has no reason to hide it. Beer doesn’t tend to come in Coke-bottle shaped bottles.
No, but certain other alcohol-containing beverages do
True. And It did occur to me, just as I pressed the “Post Comment” button, that Ruth may have made a “homebrew” of her own before walking out into the hallway. However, She still wouldn’t need to hide the bottle, since such a drink would not be detectable by looking at it.
…now what in the nine hells is her angle?
(And is it bad my first thought at the motion lines in the third panel was tha this was the start of a crossover?)
I think she’s thankful for Billie drinking with her
Or she wants to see how uncomfortable Billie is about her weight in a crammed elevator.
Given what’s going on in Sp! right now, I’d believe it.
Also I love that Dina’s pointing the way in. Like She is so suddenly on board.
She knows the sooner Billie gets in the sooner Ruth will put her down.
More like she’s pointing to where she was standing for Billie, a sort of ” I was standing there. Maybe you should stand there, now. “
This seems more likely.
And isn’t Dina so cute when she does that? ^_^
OK, Ruth had suddenly became awesome…..and nice.
Not necessarily nice; I think it’s more to help buy Billie’s silence. Of course, I think they bonded a little the night before, and maybe Ruth is trying to be helpful (in her own way).
She’s fuckin with her
Literally?
Hopefully.
Figuratively, for now, with an option on literally at some point in the future.
*Jeremy Irons eyebrow raise*
Innnnteresting. Guess Ruth doesn’t hate her.
Clearly this means the shipping is go.
Alright, you heard ‘er! Hoist Anchor and raise the sail! This Ship is Sea Ready.
U.S.S. Rullie, on it’s way to Officialand!
Or it’s just another ploy of Ruth’s. You never trust a person who tripped you for the lolz.
Billie will make it to her classroom on time only to find Ruth standing there, the door hinges welded in place. She will have a Mike mask on.
Billie will realize, all too late that this is the Up elevator.
Now I can’t wait for tomorrow’s installment, to find out if this is indeed the case. ^_^
Lookout!
I’m still not convinced that subtlety is Ruth’s thing. I was more expecting a “No room in the elevator? Stairs are over there, lardo.”
Oh, we can just wait for the beeping in protest to start. That would accomplish the joke much better.
Yank.
Brit.
Damnyankee
This must be one of those super-modern universities that was built without any primitive things like “stairs”.
Glad someone else is on the same wavelength!
They have bat-poles, but you tend to gain too much velocity for it to be feasible above 5th floor

(and what if there was a fire?)
This, I would predict, is why Sal goes in and out through the window. FARRRRR faster.
That elevator is probably actually about a dozen people over its weight limit as it is.
This may be the first time I’ve actually laughed out loud for this particular comic. I am still laughing.
Apparently she has never been on a dorm elevator. You WILL stop on every floor down so that the people waiting there because stairs are hard can look blankly at you until the door closes. Class will be over before she makes it.
The elevator is actually a black hole, and it’s sucking in all the air. Ruth has just doomed us all.
So it’s an airlock?
I said what I mean and I mean what I say.
And saved Dina
Have any of them thought of trying… the stairs?
My thoughts exactly (also pointed out by someone else in the last strip); with a line like that, one could flow down the stairs and be at the elevator doors before the elevator got there (and not even be tired, since downwards), whether four floors or eight floors (though maybe not twenty floors, but I strongly doubt a standard university dormitory is that tall).
(Also, while commenting, Ruth is being horrible to Dina. *sadness*)
Three floors isn’t so bad, for a start…

I believe the term is Tsundere? With the mixture running at about 90% tsuntsun and 10% deredere…
Billie. Go down the stairs.
Or jump out a window, or something. It is not that difficult.
Jump out a window? Who do you think she is, Sal?
Billie is Sal. Sal is Amazi-girl. Amazi-girl has the perfect disguise.
Amazi-Girl confirmed for Tyler Durden.
Stairs. Use them you lazy college student!
What arese “stairs” of which you speak? I am unfamiliar with the term.
(looks it up on Wiki)
Oh… How quaint!
Wasn’t Dina in math too?
Different section.
I’ve pretty much come to the conclusion that Ruth is still emotionally in third grade, and this is her idea of romance.
Well… yes. I thought we pretty much covered that already…
Huh, I thought those posts were just people shipping. But I think you’re right, Ruth’s got a crush on Billie and doesn’t know how to express it.
Most of them were. However, some of the posts have covered the awkward “I like you, but don’t know how to express it without pulling your hair and saying you smell funny” way Ruth seems to be acting the last few strips.

Now kiss.
That’s right! Ruth x Dina’s hat!
…. The Mike avatar just makes this demand for a kiss all the better.
She can’t even be nice without being a bongo.
I read her lines in Rolf’s voice. (Ed, Edd n Eddy)
Curse you.
Now you’ve got me doing it.
Are they gonna kiss or what?
Not enough repressed sexual tension, yet. Ruth still needs to pull Billie’s hair a few times. Or maybe throw a toy at her face.
I know a retired English teacher who thinks “welps” are the raised marks you get on your skin when something strikes you. As in: “That branch smacked me across the face, so now I have a welp on my forehead.”
Yeesh. This was supposed to be in reply to Ryorin. >_<
The Dina in my brain thinks in vernacular English, a language that defies the tyranny of English teachers.
Being friends with the RA = holy shit. Yaaaaaaay.
That’s not how you spell lesbians!
The other L-word, Josh…
“Other L-word”
…Luchadores?
At this point the ship is sailing itself. EXCELLENT.
You mean, it’s become SELF-AWARE?!
Just because it’s going in a particular direction with no-one at the wheel, doesn’t mean there’s any kind of automatic control.
Look out for rocks and sandbanks.
But…but…Dina…
I’ll stop shipping it when they stop being perfect for each other.
how do you get so many comments right after the comic was posted, at midnight…
That, my friend, is the awesome, utter power in the engine of the S.S. RuthxBillie. It makes the NaruSasu look like a tiny skipper by comparison. Tremble in awe at the warship that this once-small ship has become.
Seriously, by this point, the S.S. RuthxBillie has enough manpower to single-handedly overtake a medium-sized nation. It’s a scientific fact. Look it up.
Awwww, she cares!
And so does Dina.
In their own special unique arguably dysfunctional ways.
Dina takes one for Billie.
HA! Didnt see that one coming, David!
You know, one thing I have wondered with Dina never really caring nor showing emotion. What would she do if somebody insulted dinosaurs?
She showed emotion when those girls insulted her at the mall.
I imagine Dina respects natural selection, and she has been naturally selected, by Ruth.
you made me lol
You win 1 Internet, good insect/fruit-thing.
Ruth is just a top looking for bottom to train as her own. She’s picked Billy. Now is Billy going to end up getting shit from both ends, from her floormates for being Ruth’s pet, and from Ruth for being Ruth’s pet? Seems like a no-win situation.
THIS PRACTICALLY SHIPS ITSELF!
I can’t fault her for doing that in order to get some quiet.
The expression Ruth has in the last panel? That’s her “I just did you a favor so now you have to love me” face.
BEST RA EVER
RUTH, NO.
RUTH, YOU HAVE MADE A TERRIBLE MISTAKE.
RUTH, THE WORLD IS GOING TO KILL YOU FOR MANHANDLING DINA.
DINA, I LOVE YOU.
Ruth better not look in the Mirror anytime soon.
(Yes I still run by that theory.)
…is that Ruth’s equivalent for courtship?
Scary.
No comment yet on that delicious Dina bellybutton. Now there is.
wow bonding with the RA over drinks and mutually assured destruction really pays off
Does anybody besides me expect to see a gloved fist extend from the elevator, deck Ruth, and pull Dina back in before the doors close?
I’m confused by the camera angle… it looks like at the beginning, Ruth’s arm is to the left of Billie’s face. Then, suddenly Billie’s on the left side and Ruth has two hands in the elevator, right on the door and left on Dina… Is there some sort of hidden scene where Billie ducks down under the arm and scoots back about 5 feet? And when does Ruth get her second hand on the door… and why doesn’t the door automatically retract back to the side? I’m so confused.
Explained here.
